So I read back in August that they were letting people use hangouts over cellular now, but my note 3 won't do it. Anybody having these issues?

You would think that if they enabled it it would come through Google play. Which means everybody would get it at the same time.

Can anyone else report either success or failure of Google Hangouts videochat via AT&T LTE? I'm on the verge of upgrading from a Note 2 to a Note 3, but I think I'll wait if Hangouts doesn't work properly yet.
My friend down the street just went to the Note 3 and had the exact same issue. I'm starting to think its model specific.

Yeah they've been blocking it and I know how to enable it in an sql editor but can't do that without root. However in August they were suppose to enable it or begin enabling it.

My ATT Note 2 blocked Hangouts video on LTE until a month ago--then it started working.
However, I just got an ATT Note 3 and it once again blocks Hangouts video on LTE. This is in the same geographic location and using the same ATT account that was previously associated with my Note 2.
The Note 2 and Note 3 both show the same Hangouts version: 1.2.018 (849105-30).
I'm guessing nobody's work's over cellular?
I try a couple times a day and still says need wifi.
mine was crashing the other day made me sad.. international been getting updates left and right. get your ass in gear AT&T!
I found this several months back on XDA. Gtalkenabler_v1.1.1.apk modified. Must be rooted and works in GS3, Note 2 and Note 3. Allows you to receive and make hangout calls on LTE and 3/4g.
Not sure how to attach file. Look it up or PM me.

Thanks, but most of us are aware of the mods. It's actually just as easy to do it through an SQL editor than to have that running all the time. We were more concerned that were previously able to do it with the S4 and not now.
Also I would recommend Wannam Xposed for any kind of hacks if your rooted, to include enabling hangouts. It works without problems like the Gtalkenabler and the SQL editor.
I have the same problem. About a week ago I read an article. It said AT&T announced it but wouldn't fully rolled out until the end of the year.

Hey guys,
Is it possible to flash a international firmware onto an AT&T phone? If so, what's the best firmware to use? The BTU one?
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SM-G925A using XDA Premium 4 mobile app
The bootloader hasn't been unlocked yet and there's no root...my guess...no...unless you want to brick it.
You can't flash anything until the bootloader is unlocked. If it even gets unlocked

If you like custom ROM's I'd go back to M8 or get an M9 dev edition. Going off the past Galaxy models on AT&T you are likely to never get the bootloader unlocked. Unless Samsung does something similar to what HTC did but I doubt it.
I really liked the M8 but the camera was one of the worst cameras I've had on a phone. The camera on the S6 edge is awesome and I'm happy with the phone. I may end up returning the AT&T version and getting a T-mobile or international version instead.

A word of caution, the International versions won't support carrier aggregation or VoLTE or HD Voice...Unless you have a specific need for root, you can disable 98% of the AT&T bloat. I ended up returning my International model because of these reasons and due to the fact that the signal was noticeably worse with the international version.

Thanks for your input! I'm really not sure what to do. I love this phone and I want to keep it. I have disabled almost all the AT&T bloat now and it's working OK. There's some interesting stuff happening here at XDA and maybe we'll be able to unlock the bootloader on the AT&T devices like the Chinese version, so I'm at a dilemma right now. I have until May 12 to return my device so I will decide by then. Although, after what you said, I may not want to get an international version after all, especially if the signal is not as good as the AT&T version...
So...
Did you flash the international firmware to your AT&T edge? If so how'd it turn out? Do you miss those features mentioned?
Thanks in advance.
No. I don't believe it's possible to do so until the bootloader is unlocked. I'm still using the AT&T version and haven't decided to trade it for the international version yet.

I was about to purchase the International version but there are tons of posts
on not all of the ATT LTE bands being supported. The ATT version even has the
2 brand new bands that will be rolled out so add those 2 bands to the unsupported list.
98% of the bloat can be disabled and you will get the Voice over LTE. I cancelled my
International version and ordered the ATT version. I am not looking back.
Also if you paid full price for the the phone you will get unlock code after 60 days.

has anything changed with this issue?
As stated: bought unlocked 6 last week. Got 5.0.2, 5.1 then 5.1.1 right in row when first powered on. Downloaded and installed.
Today, have 5.1.1 Update notifier showing up, even though phone shows already have it.
Not sure what to do.
Anyone have a similar experience?
On TMo, w/ stock LMY47Z?

In all my reading and research, thought that carrier updates were specific to only branded units and not unlocked ones. Had unlocked Sony Z3 on TMo and in six months, never got TMo firmware. That was impetus behind my post.

Things have changed in Nexusland with the N6. While all builds will work on any Nexus 6, certain builds have carrier specific features.
Does above know when this is coming to the note 8. That's a major reason I upgraded from the note 4. I was shocked when I upgraded from the note 2 and lost simultaneous voice and data and have been suffering ever since.
Patiently waiting on this as well
Update: Now working! 11/22/2017
Followed instructions on post 41 in this tread (Thanks to BlueFox for sharing The original how To post)
when sprint release this for the note 8 or you maybe able to pull this form a rooted s8 by spr.
well when i rooted spr note 8 VoLTE and WiFi was working hmmm please don't ask because idk how this is without the up date. yes it works as i can make call but it has no toggle for it. i will take a screen shot in a sec. aslo do any one might know where VoLTE is stored at, if i can find out where this is at....maybe i can pull it for root and non rooted phones (maybe Non-rooted phones)

Maybe I can give the xml file for Bolts but u gotta have root

I found these using an activity launcher, i still havent tried it yet(volte), and i also found a call recorder, and the spam and caller id app but i dont think it works atm
based off his screenshots it looks like hes running the XAS software with sprint csc.
If you flash the unlocked tar image to the phone it will give you volte, but it wasn't working for me unless i was already on wifi calling and then left the wifi network i could continue using data, once i got off phone and made a new call on cellular it wasn't working.

It sucks that yes with all this technology, Sprint is so F behind. Volte should be available for unlock and carrier phone right out of the box. I mean for carrier S8 it came out a bit late, but not as late as the Note 8.
And why does Tmob. Is able to do Volte and hotspot. Just like that.
If I wasn't under a grandfather plan, Zero plan, I will have ditch Sprint long time ago.
Thank God for the gurus here at XDA, makes for some tweaking, while we wait for the Calling Plus...

No not that it was never coming back. It just wasn't coming back till Sprint had VoLTE infrastructure in place and they turn it on.
I think it is still a year or two out before they get that going. The good thing is if they actually activate it our phones are compatible for it.
Turning this stuff on, on our end won't work till Sprint turns it on, on their end.

Hi guys,
I bought the note 9 directly from Samsung and it was a T-mobile version. I just switched to Verizon but I can't use the note 9 because it's locked to T-mobile. I've called T-mobile multiple times and they said i have to do it through the app but the app keeps telling me that the unlock has failed. I have also called samsung countless times and they told me that the Note 9 that i purchased was designed to be used for T-mobile and there is no unlocking it. I doubt that this is true. What are my options here? Can i flash the unlocked firmware if so, where can i find it? Thanks in advance for the help.

I pretty sure a T-Mobile Note 9 will not work on Verizon due to the frequencies being different and each phone have different radio software that includes specific hardware. The only phone I am aware of that runs on both is the Pixel.

The installation of a specific carrier rom will unlock the modem to allow it to work on a given carriers network. Just do your research before you start flashing roms.

Flashing a different firmware will do absolutely nothing for the SIM Lock situation.
Also,if you're currently on a temporary unlock, that may be holding things up as well.
Typically,T-Mobile has a 40 day period to where you need for the phone to be active on their network before they will grant a SIM Unlock, not sure if this applies to devices bought directly from Samsung, but,it still could be why you're having issues.
You have two options:
1) Continue contacting T-Mobile regarding the issue,be prepared to show 'em your receipt/etc... proving you've bought the phone from Samsung & that it is indeed paid off. Call during typical office hrs on weekdays to ensure you get your former regional "Team Of Experts",I've found T-Mo's Customer Care has greatly improved since they went this route.
2) Use a paid device unlock service & make sure what you buy is T-Mobile Note 9 specific.
Anything else will not work. Google is your friend,as well as searching here in the Note 9 forums for services that have been recommended by the membership here.
Stay on the T-Mobile firmware until the device is permanently unlocked,I'm not sure that side-loading the device unlock .apk will work on non-T-Mobile firmware.
Depending on the method of payment you used, you may have some buyer protection regarding a return/refund,but,I'd use that as a last resort if after a week or so you get no results.
I just had a replacement and it was locked on tmobile, when I was getting the failed to unlock was because it wasn't enough time activated on their network after a week of use I was able to successfully permanent unlock my note 9
