I have just managed to root my old LG P880/4xHD using advice from this forum. Thought I would try on an old phone first. One reason I tried is because I cannot update Android via the usual About phone, Software updates, Check now for updates. The Android version installed is 4.0.3. I am in Australia and it is possible the phone is an overseas model (got it from a friend in LG). Has "Not for Resale" stamped inside the back cover. When I try to update Android, I get an error message "Registered Error - Your device is not registered yet." I had hoped rooting would get around this but it hasn't. Have looked up old forum posts and there is talk of using .kdz files and all sorts of other things. Can anyone help me get around this registration issue but please be aware I am a novice and most of the older posts I read, I couldn't understand so simple explanations please. Thanks.
What you have is developer or test device and it is a bit different from normal ones. Try googling more but you will have hard time....

Could it be that it has overseas firmware, I read in a two or three year old post that this can happen but there was a way to get around this.

Its a year old phone, its not like its the nexus one or samsng galaxy s2...
Try flashing 4.12 with kdz. Google is your friend, try kdz flash 4.1.2 Optimus 4x hd.
Funny thing, when I bought my phone, only google asked me to register the phone, the usual Google Play thing. SO what do you exactly mean with REGISTER?
i think the whole phone isn't registred by LG for consumers, like dimi89 said it has to be a dev device. they aren't registred and cannot be updated/used the normal way. the serial number of this phone isn't present in the LG databases i think. Just flash kdz and everything is fine. You know that you don't get any support or warranty on that phone but you should know that.
I have this problem - my G800F changed it's IMEI to 350695200123951. When that happened I had not touched it (no root, no nothing) at evening I still was able to make calls, but later that night it showed 'not registered on network'. I have tried factory reset, reinstalling the firmware using Kies, then I used odin, tried to make EFS backup and restore, but so far I haven't had any success. So I thought that some of you brilliant minds could help me, maybe there is a way to change the IMEI in efs backup file? The only strange thing that happened to my phone couple of days before this happened is that some random number from Ukraine called me, but for obvious reasons I did not answer it nor did I call it back. So now I'm stuck using my fathers old HTC Wildfire S, I really hope that you could help me, because I want my phone back.
SOS
Sorry no answer from me but exactly the same thing with my S5 mini g800F last week (end Sept), with exactly the same false IMEI, and I think I have now tried everything. No luck. Not the Ukraine phone call though!
Cannot get into "engineermode" which may have been a way to fix this. I loaded a new firmware, still nothing. ANY help will be appreciated but please nothing that asks me to add a "secret code" as the phone does not respond to those. I'm not an expert but got desperate enough to try my hand at a terminal emulator, it did not work. Stopped short of using SDK as the download is huge. Firmware now loaded is android 4.4.2 build number KOT49H.G800FXXU1AOG2. Heeeeelp anybody! The vendor is of no use either, just mumbling "this is a very strange thing, where did you get the phone....." (bought from the guy asking!!)
Warranty service restored the original IMEI

Just couple of days ago got my phone back from warranty and they fixed it (thought they wouldn't since it was rooted), so I would suggest doing the same thing. At the warranty center I had to explain my problem for about 30 minutes, because they believed that phone couldn't change its IMEI. Also you could try other service centers, because some of them said that they could fix this problem for about 30-50 EUR. I believe the only thing that could help otherwise is something like the z3x box, but it would be more expensive as it costs 100+ USD.
If you download the original stock firmware you can flash the IMEI number back to the phone
:S
No solution has been under warranty , the pochaine time to think about backup your EMEI
Yes yes
there is a backup somewhere between all my external hard drives, memory sticks, cloud servers... And i can't find it, too long ago and too many passwords!! But, no use telling me now to make a "pochaine" backup. I will try the reflash to older version suggestion, and see whether that gives me access to the required features. If not, it is the mountain to climb, of getting to the samsung "support" to tinker with the phone. Glad you you are sorted sunciks. A person from xda did contact me, so lets see if that bears fruit.

A back up of your phone? I would suggest just making a new back up because it's less time consuming.

You are going to have to be patient with an old person here. Making a backup of the current situation? Will it not just copy the existing false IMEI and replace on restore? Please be specific, step by step, as you would for a kid. Regards

Nope it shouldn't. The IMEI number is installed with the firmware. So if you back it up and factory reset, it should fix it.

Meaning tried to backup and factory reset. Now in process of manual flashing (via Kies). Previously found that Kies would download for an hour and then say "unexpected error...." so have not used it in more than two years. Anyway here we go again.

No, I mean downloading the firmware upgrade. It will download the new files but not install. This was long ago. Right now I get to tools to upgrade and initialise and get the message "does not support initializing" I give up!
No don't give up, just download the firmware and flash it with ODIN. If you need my to explain that, leave me an email and I'll send you the instructions.

What you propose was the second thing I did. The first was doing a factory reset with the older version of the firmware (what the phone came out with). Neither steps worked. The firmware I flashed was (Build number) KOT49H.G800FXXU1AOG2. Which btw Kies indicates as the latest version.

Added edit in wrong place but, given the phone to samsung tech. Will post the outcome somewhere next week

Can you help me please, i have the same probleme one week ago, without solutions, i pm you, please help me!
same problem here
So, I had reformatted my phone via recovery mode. I did this not knowing samsung would force me to put in my samsung account info when turned on for the first time... I had actually sold it to a friend, thinking he would just sign in through his account. This caused an issue and it needed the original samsung account of the previous owner (which is me). I put in my information and it just says "processing failed". I had changed my password, made sure it was the correct information and it all was but it never worked and came up with the same error.
So what I am looking for now is a completely fresh install of a either lollipop for the, specific "g900aucu3boc4" version of the S5. Anything to bypass that ridiculous error and literally start fresh, like a brand new phone would. I will even accept 4.4.2 if available. Anything to help me, because I have sold this to my mate and he has STILL not got the phone after about 3 weeks... I really hope you guys can help, will mean a lot!
Thank you all! :good:

Guys,
I bought an immaculate second hand Note 5 for 160 euro/180 dollars/140 pounds including shipping. It comes with the charger and an official Samsung case. It doesn't come with the box or anything else. I won't have it until tomorrow but I'm just trying to get a head start at hopefully fixing it.
Now here's the problem. The guy I bought it from got it from his work place. It was on the Vodafone network but he got it unlocked. He also rooted it. When he went to sell it a couple months back he factory reset it and now it doesn't go past the "Samsung Galaxy Note 5" splash screen. He's had it collecting dust for 3 months now.
Does this sound like it'll be as easy as an ODIN flash? As far as I know if it gets stuck on bootloops or stuck at the splash screen it's soft bricked and not hard bricked.
I've attached pictures if they help at all but I doubt it. Apparently it's a lot cleaner than the pictures and doesn't have a scratch on it. He also guarantees it's not water damaged!
Any help appreciated!
You can easy reflash the original firmware with Odin. It's nothing major.

Wow! You really think that's all? Because it doesn't come with the box I won't have access to the IMEI or serial numbers. Do you think it'll be a problem? I also have no idea what model number it is but ill ask where he got it (he lives in Ireland but I think he works in the UK as we never got the Note 5 here) maybe that'll help narrow it down.

You can return everything to stock except knox. Once knox is tripped its permanent.? And once you boot up any rom, settings will identify imei, model #, etc...

With knox tripped you will lose just the warranty which doesn't matter anyway. Samsung pay is working if you keep stock rom without root. Try to see if you can go in recovery mode with vol up home and power and do a factory reset. Sometimes is resolving the boot problem.

oh cool Samsung pay will work! Awesome sauce!!!
Phone arrived this morning! Here's where I'm at:
The phone model is the n920s, apparently some sort of korean telecomm model.
I was successfully able to boot into recovery mode via volume up, home and power button. I tried wipeing everythiong and rebooting but it doesn't pass the Galaxy Note 5 splash screen. I'm now downloading it's stock firmware and going to try flashing it via odin.
So it seems I haven't completed lucked out after all!
My findings are that it appears to be a bad/blacklisted imei. I know there is paid options to fix this but how likely are they to work?
I also found that when I boot to recovery mode it gives me theses lines in the log;
dm-verity verification failed
need to check drk first
What is this?
Even after flashing the correct n920s package from sammobile via odin I have these lines.
Any help appreciated!
Don't bother with dm-verity verification. You can google and you can see. For IMEI go to www.imeigurus.com. They are very good and they can fix your problem for 35$ include sim unlocking for that amount.

I had a look at that website and I see they don't support my phone which is n920s version. In regards to forgetting about the DRK, I'm pretty sure that's why I can't boot my phone.
Just to clarify for all I seem to have three main problems now;
1 - IMEI is bad/blacklisted (Repairable).
2 - dm-verity verification need to check drk first (Not sure how to fix).
3 - FRP Lock is enabled/on stopping me from installing twrp etc (not sure how to fix).
Phone cannot boot up to enable USB Debug or anything.
Stuck only with recovery mode and ODIN mode.
Just to keep everything in one place for anyone else who has this problem, here is a private message I just sent to 123Unlock over at sammobile.com forums. He is from SRS(Simlock Remote Server) - www.unlocksamsungonline.nl
Hi there,
I've been reading through a lot of websites for the last 7 hours trying to fix a phone that I bought. I was caught in a scam and sold a Samsung Galaxy Note 5 N920S which has a bad/blacklisted IMEI, the FRP lock is enabled/on and the DRK needs to be repaired. The guy who sold it to me said he got it from his work place. He also said he got it unlocked (I don't know what network it was on) and rooted it. Then when he went to sell it he factory reset it and now it's stuck/broken the way it is.
After all my reading it seems like you/your company are the only ones capable of fixing my phone. Could you please help me. I'm obviously willing to pay for the job.
My phone does not boot but I can enter ODIN and recovery modes. For more information here is a thread I started over at XDA - Developers:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/note5/help/help-bricked-hopefully-soft-note-5-t3445232
To contact me directly here is my email - [email protected]
Look forward to hearing from you,
Chris.
Did you flash the stock firmware with Odin? Did you put the firmware in AP section in odin and it was successfully flashed? Sometimes after that it keep staying in boot screen for long time. Just turn it off presing the power key for 10 seconds and turn on again.
