Unlockable bootloader is still necessary to remove bloat - can be done without root on HWs.

I feel Huawei is shooting themselves in the foot, as an active development community is also a great help for the manufacturer to address and iron out bugs or to find workarounds for shortcomings of the devices, leading to happier customers.

Well id love if they cannuse this opportunity to make a vendor partition as well:laugh:
I love in India so I'll send mine for the update next week as they'll be covering courier cost.
I hope there will be some way in near future where it can be implemented in custom roms.

+1, i have a OnePlus for that, friendly root, Pure Android (OOS or Custom) :highfive:
Netflix is on my computer or tv, not my Smartphone
They should make something that we could access remotely to update this. Like, c'mon, we are in 2018 they don't our phone in their hands to update it.
So is this done on the hardware level so that it sticks for factory resets and custom ROMs? You know, like official LineageOS 15.1 released today? :fingers-crossed:
And I noticed a few others mentioning locked bootloaders... I don't care if I have to wipe and relock it to have it serviced but will I still get L1 if I unlock and TWRP it again?

I think it's only with an oos based rom possible cause without locked bootloader it won't be possible in my opinion and regarding the statement of oneplus.

Thanks it seems that you dealed with a support worker with little knowledge.
I dont think the "update" would surfive a full wipe as there are no extra partitions/chips to write to that we ourselfs cannot. If i'm wrong please do tell..

This update will survive wipes, and can surely be used for OOS based ROMs, OnePlus told me that rooting, unlocking the bootloader will not break the update again and that it is going to stick when on custom ROMs (they haven't guaranteed it tho). The reason why we, users cannot do the update ourselves, is because of Googles requirements - the executing PC must be authenticated to to generate special keys, which are unique to each and every device. It is inconvenient, but it's the only way OP can execute the update.

Only way of getting a P20 Pro with an unlocked bootloader is to buy one that's being sold with one, I think.
From what I've read, DC Unlocker will not be able to grab the unlock codes.

Link seems to be dodgy.. It is not clear whether the request will reach Huawei?.. The form is collecting device info including IMEI and I am not comfortable sharing these information unless I am sure whom am I sending to and how Huawei will be notified of my request. I cannot see any Huawei related info or link in there.

Guys unfortunately at this time it is not possible to unlock the bootloader. End of story I'm afraid.
The Bootloader code must be somewhere in the device.
How to get the code?

The code is not in the device, you need to output a code, i think the serial number to a website which in turn will then transfer it to another code.
It's possible that it could be cracked so you would know what the output is from a particular serial number, but good luck working that out.
The only way it's going to happen is if someone cracks it, or Huawei reverse their decision.
we have to press, e-mail and collect signatures in change.org.
Let's see if we are lucky

thank you
Yeah see Roms and other kernels here in xda all. In. One flash tool is good.
But at the moment bootloader isn't unlockable. For Huawei p20 pro, so you need to. Wait a short time.
(since a month Huawei. P20. Normal was unlocked) so wait....
Of course it's possible to unlock bootloader. It's paid and quite expensive but there are at least three suppliers who offer it. Just do some searching here or in discussion section. Development is not in mature stage though.
Thank you all, I'll wait.

Sorry, Wait for what? Bootloader unlock is available for P20 Pro for quitr some time. The user above provided misleading and outdated information. If you bothered to do little search you would easily find at least 4 threads about bootloader unlock. I personally used ministryofsolutions. Worked like a charm.

I don't think you understood what i was trying to say. Before you post anything equally "interesting" let me state something obvious. Bootloader unlock service is no longer available through official channel (read huawei official website) since . It is available thanks to third party services.
And you can easily root your device just do some searching here.

Hi,
I would like to know if there are custom roms being developed for this device. I did not see any Roms in the development section and would like to know if there are any plans for the future. It would be great if we got support as EMUI 10 is also not coming for this device.
Thanks in advance

Hi guys
I was wondering if it could still be possibleto root the p9 lite in 2023.
Here are the specs:
Model nuber: SLA-L02
EMUI: 5.1.3
Android: 7.0
I've tried every thread and website(freewares also such as Kingroot), even contacted huawei but none of it worked. I was only abel to unlock the FPR, but not the bootloader.
