Hi, everyone this is my first post.
Though I am not new to rooting, but earlier i used to do one click root..so unrooting was also that damn easy.
Recently i rooted my moto x 2nd gen xt1092 by unlocking bootloader and after flashing TWRP and later using SuperSu.
But here is the catch I didn't take nandroid backup before rooting.
So my question is
1 If I take backup now , will this backup be a rooted backup , means that if in future I flash this backup my phone will be directly boot in rooted mode..?
2 If I unroot using supersu are there chances I may stuck in bootloop?
3 now as I alreday have Twrp flashed how can I get to my original OS I once had? 9(system recovery image)
Plz let my doubts get cleared.
thanks in advance

1. yes, you can do a full backup of system, data, recovery, boot, etc (default configuration of backup) and when you do a restore you have the same root system.
2, sometimes, you have a 50% of possible failure, the best option is flash the stock system files and after do a ota update or similar (never do a downgrade, can kill your phone(hardbrick))
3. Via bootloader (down volume button when you turn on the phone)
Write or copy this lines on bootloader mode (in the same folder where you have execute the command for your unlock code for the unlock of boot loader)
fastboot flash recovery recovery.img
fastboot reboot
The recovery is on image of StockRom.
Sorry my English, I`m Chilean.

Thanks cyke31.
My two doubts are absolutely clear.
I have a doubt regarding the 3 point.
where I will find that recovey.img file?
And after flashing that recovery.img file will I get back to my stock rom, that I had before TWRP was installed ?
Can I take OTA updates?
Will TWRP get uninstalled ?
your english is pretty good..
I am Indian ....so don't worry . I'm not grammar NAZI..

I recommend downloading the stock rom and do a clean install , because any change you've made in system, will generate bootloop...
Here the links to the Rom (you must download The xt1092 version)
Firmwares 4.4.4 hasta 5.0.X: https://mega.co.nz/#F!TkIwRTjR!m7W1V35qfLBiiUargAx1vg
Firmwares 5.1 y 6.0: https://mega.co.nz/#F!ow8igZRL!Z7vmN8GOpez2bVMYDvEKkg
And them install via guides on xda.

so its better to flash system files than flashing recovery.img
though I'm in no mood to unroot my device. just wanted to know the consequences. I'll do normal backup of my current rooted rom. If in case anything happens I'll flash stock system files from motorola website.
Thanks for the info.
Xposed is the reason I rooted my device. Heard that is better to take nandroid backup before installing Xposed.

Of course I know, but I prefer having more functions. I think it is easy to unlock the bootloader, but there is not any 3rd party recovery available. Maybe I should wait until update to 6.0

Hey guys, I rebuild the TWRP 2.8.7.0 recovery from M9+
You can try it will work or not, but I have China's stock recovery only so far...
So, use it at your own risk
twrp-2.8.7.0-e56ml_dtul.img

BTW, if someone can provide me the hosd file, I can decrypt the RUU file and make stock ROM

Maybe you should modify the boot image by yourself
1. flash the stock boot image that you've backup
2. flash the superuser.zip that provided in this thread in TWRP recovery
http://forum.xda-developers.com/android/software-hacking/wip-selinux-capable-superuser-t3216394
Good luck, bro

Hello there you have x9 official rom or recovery.img
I am a le 2 x526(Indian version) user after waiting for more than 8 months till now camera and flash has not been fixed in any custom ROMs:crying: and i don't blame any developers but leeco for this mess but now i am thinking of selling this phone altogether for that i need to bring this phone to factory state so guys please help me doing so.
Easiest way is to restore a twrp backup( if made any..). If not, i assume that you have a fully working twrp build. First flash stock recovery through twrp or fastboot. Now flash a fresh copy of Eui 19s through stock recovery. Voilla! You're done!

I have an Android One Moto x4 running 8.1.0 OPW28.2 (OPW28.46-18) and I am getting a notification for the OPW28.3 OTA update. I want to install it, but I have TWRP and Magisk installed.
I tried to uninstall Magisk and then install the OTA, but it said "update failed". Did I do something wrong? Do I also need to uninstall TWRP/restore a 100% stock boot.img?
You have to be completely stock to apply otas.
Thanks, that helps. The only "non-stock" things are TWRP and Magisk. Hopefully restoring a stock boot.img should be enough to let me install it.
Try this method.
Tried to restore images in Magisk but got the message "Stock backup does not exis!"
I think when I installed Magisk I chose Direct Install (recommended). Does Magisk only create a backup boot file if installed another way? (Patch Boot Image File)
Ok, so not only did I completely uninstall Magisk, I also restored a stock boot.img (from https://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=77096052&postcount=2).
When I went to install the OTA, it said "failed". I'm not sure what else I need to do.
Well, I have a few other ideas... when I opened TWRP, it said I was on slot B. Is that right? What if I switch to A? Or what if I stay on B, but I erase A's system partition? Do I need to copy system from B to A or something?
OH! What if I use TWRP to restore the backup I downloaded to slot A, boot to that, then try to install the OTA?
Why is this failing even though I have a stock system and boot?
Do you have stock recovery? Because OTA uses that, not TWRP.

Yeah, the recovery is back to stock. There's something I'm missing, but I'm not sure what it is. Something to do with the A/B slots, I think.
I've been messing around with installing the OTA on an A1 phone today as well. I've flashed back to stock at least a half-dozen times. So far all I've been able to determine is that the OTA updates are supremely touchy.
If I do nothing in fastboot after flashing back to stock 28.1 then 28.2 and 28.3 will install just fine, and if I do anything with booting TWRP or flashing images the OTAs fail.
Also, the 28.3 update seems to take way longer to install than the 28.2.

That's what I wound up doing to get all the way up to date. I flashed the stock 28.1 (modifying the flash_stock.sh script to not flash the partition file or erase userdata) and then I was able to OTA update to 28.2 and then 28.3

boot image it's your stock kernel, not your recovery. I don't understand how you get stock recovery. The only way I know to do that, its flashing a stock recovery and then fully unroot your phone, Now try to installed the OTA update. You can get the recovery image from a stock firmware, but to be sure it would work, try to use the same version as your phone is (Europe, Latam, India...)

I think the moto x4 is a little weird and the recovery is actually part of the boot image.

I grabbed the stock image from https://forum.xda-developers.com/moto-x4/how-to/oreo-8-1-official-firmware-available-t3805173 and grabbed a "flash_all" script from https://forum.xda-developers.com/moto-x4/how-to/guide-how-to-flash-official-factory-t3808348
I opened up the flash_all.sh script and just removed the line "fastboot erase userdata" (I also removed "fastboot flash partition gpt.bin", not sure if I really needed to).

Yey! Thank you thank you! I can now update without having to go through all that process of updating multiple times just to have the latest version. So just removing the "erase userdata" is fine right? If I dont do the other it still works fine? Just making sure because I think Im just gonna boot TWRP and flash Magisk so I can stick to stock boot.img and just update whenever they pop. Thanks again!!!

I'm not 100% sure what all the lines in the flash_all.sh script do, so I can't provide any guarantees. It worked for me to remove the 2 lines: "fastboot flash partition gpt.bin" and "fastboot erase userdata". Then I was able to flash the original/stock 28.1 image to the system. When it booted, I installed the 28.2 OTA, rebooted and then I was able to install the 28.3 OTA.
I had to do this craziness because the 28.3 OTA was failing to install for me otherwise.
So, just got the OTA update to Android Pie for my Mi 8 Global, and want to try flashing TWRP again. Every single version of TWRP I have flashed before has always either fail to boot, or always reboots into recovery and the ROM never loads. Anyone can suggest a real working TWRP file to flash? Do I need to wipe data? Etc. Since TWRP hasn't worked for me at all, I have to root with a roundabout way. Install Magisk Manager, extract and recompile boot.img into patched_boot.img and flash that in fastboot. This gives me roo but no TWRP so I can't flash any custom kernels or ROMs.
