Would this be the best smart watch to buy? I have a couple of things I'd want it to do.
Compatible with my Tmobile S2
Play music on my phone using controls on the watch
read texts
apps (what kind are availible)
and i have a couple of questions:
is it rootable?
if so what can you do extra
what customizations can i do to it
how big is the memory
thanks for your help
One answer. Buy it. You won't be disappointed.

should be compatible with your S2, can control music player via the watch (and more options if you use Music Boss). Read text. And some apps.
So far it's not rootable so there is not much you can do with it.
If you are looking for something to root/customize, then you might want to look at Gear or maybe the SmartQ Z, which is under the Xda->SmartWatches->Other. I don't have any personal experience with SmartQ, but so far it looks very interesting..for the $100 price.
Not rootable, but the sdk is free and quite extensive. So it is fairly easy to make your own apps and faces. There are some memory restrictions though and there are only eight slots for faces and apps combined, but the Pebble team could change that limit in the future

For customisation, there are practically an endless amount of watchfaces you can use to customise it with, and you can make your own. Hardware-wise the plastic model uses a standard strap so you can replace the straps with something more to your liking, and you can get skins to customise the look of the bezel.

No need to root it. It is a 99% open platform. As far as apps there are quite a few. My personal preferences though are:
Music Boss (Controls music playback and volume)
Pebble Dialer (Make and answer calls from Pebble)
Glance (Fairly detailed watch face with some extras)
Canvas (Let's you easily create watch faces from your phone with just about any data you want)
I find the pebble to be better than the over hyped Samsung Gear. Gear has too few apps and don't feel like having to root it and install extra apps on my phone to be able to use it with a non Samsung device. Not to mention the dirty looks you might get at some places when people realize you're wearing a gear with a hidden camera.

You can use the app Simply Alarm that lets you customise the alarm vibration on the Pebble.

I don't think so. If you want to open up a text on your phone, you have to open it manually on your phone. There is an app that lets you dismiss notifications on the phone from your Pebble though.

Get a skin and a screen protector. The plastic on the Pebble is really prone to scratches.

Recently I received a Sony Smartwatch 2 as a present. And, as much as I don't like disappointing on a present, I'm thinking of selling it away and getting a Pebble (the original). I only have a few questions regarding Pebble's usage (sometimes comparing it to Sony SW2):
1. How big Pebble is? (in comparison to Sony SW2, in case you used them both) SW2's height is about 3/4 of my wrist's width. The relatively sharp edges of SW2 seem to bi a little annoying too.
2. Can Pebble display custom watchfaces that contain extra information beside the clock? I thinking about a countdown timer, navigation information, musig info, etc. without having to push buttons. (similar to what metawatch does)
3. Has anyone tried to use Pebble (tied to an appropriate application) for sleep tracking? I'm mostly thinking of alarms that go off when it's best to wake up.
4. Can it control PowerAmp?
5. Can notification vibration patterns be configured, based on notification type?
Thank you!

I also had a Smartwatch 2 and returned it after getting a Pebble.
1. Pebble is quite smaller and more comfortable to wear, however the SW2 was not too bad for me about that
2. I'm sure it can show notification counts (missed calls, SMSs, mails), meteo and probably music, not sure about other things.
4. As far as I can read on Google, yes it can
5. Not natively, but probably you can do that if you let some external app handle notifications instead of the official one.

Hardest thing I've ever done applying this screen protector. Had bought messed up I came up with an excuse for best buy to give me another one and used water on the screen protector taped then on to watch and squeeged out water

Is the frequent contacts all I can do with the Edge display? I thought there were music controls. Does the ticker app only work with the screen off?
So far I'm highly disappointed with a feature with so much promise.

Night clock is pretty nice. Also the curvature just makes everything "pop" which I really have been enjoying. There's not much more than that, perhaps it will have some fun usage in the future but it's mostly "bling" and you should have known that before ordering one as it's been widely discussed before launch.
Like the above, did you not actually look into it? Why did you think there were music controls? That was never discussed anywhere, not a single article on the S6 Edge claimed it could do that.
Regardless, it's a brand new phone. Give it time. Right now it's limited to a handful of "edge apps" in the Galaxy store, but the phone is four days old. More will come.
I researched the Note Edge than this one. I just figured it would have some of the same features as the Note Edge. Why have a phone with 2 edges that do less than the phone with one edge?

The Note Edge is two separate displays. The S6 edge is one display.

Of course, but the edge can still be used in one fashion or another. Right now it has the quick access to contacts, but apply that same concept to media keys or something else and suddenly you've got a winner. Or just allowing third party development of screen off functionality.
Thanks for replying guys. I'll just wait and see what they come up with.

There are a few apps out there that I absolutely enjoy with the edge.
Smart task launcher
I have 6 hot spots set yo on the right side of the screen with contacts, bookmarks and apps
Edge color notificationI use this for incoming calls like edge lighting but can be used with any contacts and can change colors to whatever
smart launcher pro
It's a home replacement I like the app drawer pulls out from the left edges
There are more out there bust just for starter this is what I am currently using on a daily basis
How did you find those apps?

Where do you think, dude? The Apple store? Windows store?
LOL
Left myself open for that. I see now that the launcher thericksonebay was talking about has functions that slide out from the side, not that are specifically created for the screen edge. I'd be cool if I could just get a sports ticker, or maybe move the notification bar from the top to one side.

With Action Launcher 3 you can setup shortcut gestures. I swipe left to emulate Gnow launcher. You could have it pop open your app. You can also set "far edge display" and you literally have to peel it from the side of the screens.
Only launcher that got me away from Gnow. Highly recommend it.
Pretty neat app http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=3087377

Hoping someone can help me with some questions...
1) can you get the black face with the numbers on the 20mm bands? I don't see that option.
2) I originally assumed I would want the 14mm band to keep things slim but looking at the pictures it kinda looks weird to me almost like the watch itself becomes too big. Anyone have feedback or thoughts?
3) can you take voice notes from the pebble?

Why have samsung gone backwards with regards to the AOD on the 8 series of devices.
On the S7 edge you could have the AOD active, and additionally have a schedule of when you'd like the edge display to be active, you can't have both on the Note 8!
Its either AOD or Edge clock.
Is there anyway around this without root?
I've tried a few AOD apps and they're all rubbish.
Sent from my SM-N950F using Tapatalk
I looked for a work around for this flaw as well but no luck. Not sure why Samsung went backwards on this great feature.
I did that using Tasker and Secure Settings.

Hi,
I dont get option of edge lighting in phone calls. Phone is not listed in the app list.
Is yours working in calls as well??
Sent from my SM-N950F using Tapatalk
Well, as a matter of fact, phone or calls are not listed, but the four edges illuminate when a call is ringing, but, does not when a mail arrives... Odd
For me, calls do not invoke the edgeighting while calls come in.
Any idea how to enable it as I would love to see that.

I had the same problem but I report it to Samsung and they fixed with all apps but just with turned on screen. I report again and they says to me that Samsung engineers to fix that... ... ... I replied to then saying I bought a 1000usd cellphone so I expected to work just like features says.
If I have a new report or fix I will comment again.
Cheers
