anyone noticed this too?
i have to adjust almost everytime the slider because it stays around 15% in dark rooms.. after some time it wents back to this.
its not 100% dark, tv is running and some passive lightning is on..
i have read the machine learning should soon know what i prefer..
never got this problem so hard before..
with google i found the information about the machine learning on adaptive brightness in pie, and 1 of 2 commenters have exactly the same problem with his pixel phone.
is this now a known bug, anyone here has the same problem? is there maybe some good app to fix this? i tried one but thats just the same as disabling adaptive brightness..

Hey guys,
I was just wondering why it is that my auto brightness won't reach te max level...
I'm running fr17 right now but the problem was the same on all the custom roms I've tried....
Any ideas?
Thanks!
nobody with the same issue?
I have the same problem, i also think that the brightness is not low enought at night
Same here. Too bright at night, not bright enough in sunlight
Sent from my Optimus 2X using XDA App
same here aswell
yeah, it won't go just till 70-80% I believe, even in direct sunlight...
solution:
use brightness level widget, set it around 35% when indoor, and just put it to 100% when you go out... i know it's not automatic, but still better than going to settings, since this is just 2 taps
for me these settings are perfect, battery is great
Someone should try to re-calibrate the sensor and add that to cyanogenmod or release a patch for it. Kinda weird that they made it this way...
Hi, I have noticed the pink tint to the screen when using adaptive brightness below 30-40% and was wondering if it effects all devices.
I have read a lot of people talking about it and that it happens because the screen goes so dark and some people are saying that it is supposed to happen. Is this true and if not is it effecting all devices?
I am on my 3rd device now the first one i took back after a few hours as the screen was tinted really yellow and uneven and my second one had image retention pretty bad and would happen after 5 seconds of the nav bar being displayed and i dont know if it effected them as i didnt try adaptive brightness as i didn't ha e them for long enough.
The one thing i find really weird though is that i have been using the lux app to test if it was to do with the phone going so dim and while there is a slight pink tint when putting the brightness down on the lux app it is no where near as bad as when adaptive brightness is being used and the lux app goes a lot darker.
Thanks.
I've seen all does it specially at night. I consider this is normal
Its because you're brightness is below 0. If you use adaptive brightness at night its lower than 0 without adaptive brightness. You will see the same thing if you use the lux brightness app.
Edit: I noticed you used the lux app, you're correct its not as bad with it, but it's still there. I could be a software implementation or a bug for all we know.
So it is actually on all devices and not a select few?
I got 7 days to return it for another one but if it is on all devices and there is nothing that can fix it i dont think there is no point in risking it for another nexus 6 that could have a worse screen like uneven colours.

This is more of a feature than a defect, frankly...
Not that it is pink, but that it can be dropped down as low as it can.
Basically, there is a minimum brightness threshold. The lower the brightness, the less power it consumes. If you set the brightness below a certain point, the colors (because of the nature of the amoled) will start to mess up a bit. Most vendors will set the minimum brightness high enough to not have this happen. Google sets it a bit lower to save a bit more power, without making the colors go *entirely* crazy by setting it WAY too low.
Its made like that to conserve power. All nexus 6 are like that
I thought it was a defect too until I started researching and like someone suggested turned off adaptive brightness which made the tint go away completely even at lowest brightness setting.

Adaptive brightness is actually a really nice feature.
If the pink bugs you too much, you can (if you know your way around a compiler, that is...) bump up the minimum a little.
What if adaptive brightness is off, and the brightness is set to at least 70%, and the pink tint crap still happens? kernel issue? nougat issue? Because it's very annoying, randomly happens to me. usually, going into twrp and clearing cache fixes it. sometimes it doesn't though.
Help.
EDIT
Never mind. I figured it out. it was night mode that was causing the pink tint via purenexus settings.
And yes I did make the title CAPS, because I am a bit cross they thought this would be a good idea.
Personally I don't think our screens need this feature....
It seems the nexus 6 has this 'automatic contrast brightness' feature built in.
Really, i cant think why.
I am really enjoying the phone, but for me the brightness just is not up to scratch (unfortunately) but hey hoo.
Anyway, i noticed this happening to mine. Start chrome for example, for a split second the screen is bright then it dims down.
I would say this is software setting, but it seems there is no access to it, can it be fixed by kernel setting or some other rom mod?
Cheers

Do you have Adaptive brightness turned on in the Display settings?
are you noticing this at full brightness?

Hi, yes it is off as is ambient display...
As stated in the OP, this is built in on the Nexus 6 as it is with the LG2 also i think.
It would be great if we where able to disable it, but from what I have read about Content-based Dynamic Contrast it might be kernel related or something within the rom...
Does anyone have any info on this CDC feature?
Cheers

There is no such thing. Do you have any reliable reference that it's a feature of the N6? I can only find one article from "PC Pro UK" whatever that website is.
What does happen like it happens with most if not all OLED (and Plasma btw) is that the screen has a max overall brightness it can achieve. If you have a small white square it will be able to get brighter than if you had the whole screen white.
In practice I don't notice it though, with the phone turned to max brightness and then opening a mostly white empty Chrome page.
Are you running stock? I don't have this type of issue unless I have adaptive brightness on.
I have this weird brightness problem where I have it at 50% and it would randomly dim and brighten like crazy. I tested at 100% brightness and it also dims and brightens. Obviously, I don't have it on auto brightness but it sure acts like it.
Anyone with the same issue? Is it a defect? I just got the phone today and I'm afraid to exchange it to have the same problem again. I really like this phone. There's always a friggin issue on a new phone. It's ridiculous.

I think is a software problem. Lollipop still have lot to fix. Mines look the same. Can be a display minor isue. Not sure, but for me this phone doesn't have the best brighness at all. But I love this phone better than others for now. If you came from samsung phone, there is a big diferent in brightness. Post some screen shoot. One in a white background, and the other in a grey one. I will post the same and you tell me if something is diferent. Sorry for my grammar. Is not the best !!!!?

In Q&A is a thred call DPI Change. Try that, but reed carfully. you'll need root for that.
I appreciate your input but I don't know how the things you mentioned would help me in my case. I would need to do a video in order to see the problem instead of screen shots. Dpi change will do nothing in this case as well. You may be confused with the issue I have.
Well I try my best. As I sed could be a software problem. DPI is a resolution thing, can help a little. Also you can link a video to see exactly what you talking about. The reson I ask for the screen shoot is becaus I can probably see a differences between your brightness and mines. Hope somebody can help you on that.
This is my first Lollipop device after a long time with Kitkat, so I may be missing something obvious, but I just can't wrap my head around Adaptive Brightness.
So when it's set to on it adjusts the brightness based on the light sensor, but I can also use the slider to tweak it, correct? But then sometimes the slider just stops working, moving it doesn't change the brightness at all. Only way to make it work again is to change the lighting significantly (for example I point the phone at a lamp). After the auto-adjustment kicks in I can tweak it with the slider again. Is this a bug, or yet another misguided "feature"? Do I have a hardware problem? I've tried a few sensor apps and everything seems to work fine. On top of the auto adjustment not being as good as Kitkat's, the inconsistency is really bothering me.
EDIT: I am on stock rom. I'm sure that CM12 would solve this problem if it's a Lollipop bug, but I can't be arsed with a custom rom a this time. Looking for a stock based solution, or at least an explanation for this strange behaviour.
