Hi all.
I've just flashed my n960f with o2 branded so I can use the wifi call feature.
My question is can I use the same software on my wifes duel sim version?
I don't think that is a good idea unless you want to brick your wife's device.

Why? Dual sim and single sim use the same firmware (i.e. there is no specific "dual sim" firmware).

I think the dual Sim variant uses a different device driver. As the 2nd slot is a hybrid microSD/SIM card slot.

Still the same firmware though, so it's likely just baked in to accommodate either one. The FD/S or FD all run the same F firmware.

Maybe... I am not 100% sure on this but I think the drivers maybe different as I don't think the Note 9 can support the use of 2 LTE/4G network connections at the same time.
Actually the Note 9 can support LTE/ 4G on both sims at the same time(see attachment). The note 8 didnt. Not sure if this is the first or if the S9 had it.
Not sure about firmware compatibility

Try on Cyanogenmod with GSM Patch (if you are on GSM Zone) - if doesn't work - probably something with hardware

will it affect me if i flashed android O for the model SM-N950F on my SM-N950F/DS ? will that make any difference or void my warranty ?
Both models are using same firmware, no specific firmware for N950F/DS

No worries, I already converted my N950F to dual sim function, so I can use 2 sim cards now.
I didn't flash any other roms, just same rom for N950F.
Currently, the rom will be same for same country or multiple csc country.

What is the difference between the Sony Xperia XZ2 H8216 / H8276 / H8266 / H8296 ?
H8216 - single sim, 4GB ram, NA/Europe markets
H8296 - dual sim, 6 GB ram plus additional LTE bands for Asian market
H8266/H8276 not yet available from what I can see.
H8266 is Dual SIM with 4 GB RAM.
H8276 is only unknown variant.
Probably a dumb question... I have the H8296 from HK. Sony are awful at updating the HK variants. For the XZ the Oreo update was 4 months after the rest of the world. People tell me to flash to another region (apparently Germany) to get better and quicker updates, is that possible? Does the differing RAM make this problematic?
@Phoomeister
There should be no problems. There is part of firmware (partitions.sin) which limits size of ROM memory if flashed from variant with less of it. However no file responsible for the RAM size. There may be a problem with bands, as I'm not sure if H8296 and H8266 has supoort for same ones. You may better not flash baseband - AMSS files.

@Phoomeister were you able to flash the device correctly using the H8266 fw? I am in the same spot as you are. Thanks in advance.

I didn't bother in the end, Sony HK updated mine relatively quickly so didn't think there was a need, but if their future updates slow down it's something I'll definitely look at; the Oreo update for my XZ was 5 months late.

Ok I see. I ended up using the german one for because of that matter.
The phone does recognize the 6gb RAM, although it hasn't used more than 3.2gb yet.
Anyhow, thanks for the reply and let's hope they solve the update situation.

Then you installed the single Sim firmware.
As example I installed the H8266 dual dim firmware on my H8296 dual Sim to get faster updates.
Now it is a H8266 in settings and companion.

Did that to my H8296 as well. The beta release notes detail this shortcoming on the DP2

Mine also went from H8266 to H8216. The release notes does say dual SIM not supposed at this time.
Also I can't get LTE to work on Cricket in US. It is stuck with 4G. Any idea how to fix this on P?

I'm just realizing that. I switched from project fi to cricket. I used to get 50mbps on LTE and now I'm getting only 8mbps and was convinced it wasn't LTE. But now I see that's the catch with cheaper service providers.

Confirm H8296 does not support lte band 3 at least. Checked on 2 phones bought in different countries. I have tried to flash H8266, but still band 20 not supported.
Don't forgett the SOV37 and the 702SO.
They got also their own open source archives and software version.
https://developer.sony.com/file/download/open-source-archive-for-51-1-c-0-385/
https://developer.sony.com/file/download/open-source-archive-for-51-1-d-0-404/
There is also a special XZ2 Compact version
https://developer.sony.com/file/download/open-source-archive-for-51-1-b-0-449/
And thew other versions mentioned in this thread (including the xz2 compact versions) are here
https://developer.sony.com/file/download/open-source-archive-for-51-1-a-4-265/
We got the A version
They got B, C and D.

Really? All the specs for H8296 say it supports the LTE Band 3. This is really confusing.

I'm located in the USA and AT&T is my carrier. I would like to be able to run custom ROMs on the phone. I did a quick search and came up with the following models "SM-N960F or SM-N960F/DS". Which version of the Note 9 is able to run custom ROMs? Thank you in advance for your advice.

960F and 960F DS are exynos variant, with unlocked/unlockable bootloader, both should run custom firmware without problems.
The difference being one is dual sim (hence the ds in the name).
960U/960U1 are snapdragon variants and have a locked bootloader, so no go on those.

So do the SM-N960F or SM-N960F/DS have all the correct bands for AT&T? Just curious as I have always wanted to do what you are doing...

Based on this thread, it looks like the 960F DS has the correct bands to run on AT&T. It may be missing some features such as Wifi calling though.
https://forum.xda-developers.com/galaxy-note-9/help/sm-n960f-ds-att-t3846648
DS means dual sim. D is the single sim.
snapdragon also have the n9600 that is rootable.
only one dev right now so only 1 rom in xda.
might be more in the future...
forum is full of this info. brows around.
Hi all! I bought the S10 from eBay not knowing it was the Chinese variant.
I have at&t, and it supports all but two of ATT's bands, so I'm fine there.
I just have one question: Will I be able to flash a stock ROM of a different variant through Odin? Like the US Snapdragon variant for example.
So.. No one knows? I wanna verify before I try to flash a ROM
No you will not really be able to do as you wish without substantial customization and editing of the files you want to flash.
What you are asking is as unlikely as being able to flash the TMO version with the AT&T software.. BUT.. AS I UNDERSTAND IT, unlike the other dual SIM variants the unit you purchased comes with a unlocked bootloader out of the box -- whereas all the other variations -- the bootloader is locked so you will be able to flash custom roms down the road which should cover you.
Samsung pay in a few other things those won't work as I understand it.
---------- Post added at 08:23 PM ---------- Previous post was at 08:10 PM ----------
oh and I forgot this nugget of very important information
If you flash anything other than dual SIM variant software you will lose the dual-sim functionality.
Further, I'm not sure how that might affect your micro SD card slot since the hardware is a little different on that device.
Summary: i wouldn't recommend using anything other than dual SIM variant software.
I was wrong however, from like hardware to like hardware there is a way -- see this post. an example of single Sim to single-sim how to do it.

As others have said, do not do this or you may brick your phone. The model number and bootloader are different between US and non-US Snapdragon versions. I had tried it on my S8 and it won't boot.

It is only possible to flash other other SM-G9730 models, not 973U like the US models. As there is only one other firmware you can flash, I think you can flash the Hong Kong version as it is closer to the US version than the chinese version is (Chinese and Hong-Kong have the same version)
