Ok, I have in my possession a Lumia 640LTE from MetroPCS and I would like to get it Window Mobile 10. I've already unlocked it from MetroPCS (got the unlock code and put in a non-MetroPCS SIM and entered the code).
I've been going through the forums and I can't quite determine the best method to go about this? That is also the easiest, sure fire way (no bricking). The only thing I have done so far is use WPInternals to unlock the boot loader, and I've tried to put "RM1073_02166.00000.15084.41001_RETAIL_prod_signed_1005_01DE1D_000-CA.ffu" on, but it fails via WPInternals.
I'm sorry if this is such a Newbie question in advance. Just please point me to the proper thread. Thanks in advance!!!

Unfortunately, it says there are "no updates for this device". Which is the same thing when I try the upgrade advisor. This has been an issue with this phone since it was from Metro PCS, as they never allowed WM10 for the Lumia 640 LTE
Flash a diferent variant then.

Could you recommend a different variant? I'm not sure which ones were allowed to be upgraded to WM10 in English besides the "Retail" version (I think).
The phone is the following from (w w w.lumiafirmware.com/ser/RM-1073/guid/059X0M9):
Phone model: Lumia 640 LTE
PackageTitle: RM-1073 VAR NAM US METROPCS SL
Product Code: 059X0Q4
manufacturerHardwareModel: RM-1073
I used RM-1073 VAR LTA 7R CV on my T-Mobile 640 LTE then used the OTC updater tool from Microsoft to push the update to my phone. I only use it for a Wi-Fi device though so I don't know if cell/data works or not.

I have asked on wpcentral and wanted to get more people's opionons, I was thinking of flashing a CV rom to get updates faster. My phone is the 520 and it is SIM locked. It is using rm-915. I am wondering if it is sim locked and I used a different rom, from another country or global rom. Would I have a sim issue since it is locked to ATT.
2. How hard is it to brick a Lumia,
3. How easy is it to unbrick one
4. Voids the warranty right?
The only guy that answered my questions on wpcentral said he never has bricked one and they are easy to unbrick.
Also said I shouldn't have an issue with the sim.
The only typical way that they are bricked are when the device tries to do an update, but you get the "spinning gears of death" for hours on end. That's the update screen, but it shouldn't last more than 15 minutes.
To unbrick it, you just need to hold volup when turning on and reflash it.
It technically voids the warranty, but I have no way of knowing.
The phone would still be locked to AT&T, but it almost more useful to say on the ROM that's in it. AFAIK the US CV doesn't have the GDR3/Black update out yet for the Lumia 520.
Would I get a SIM error if I used an international rom for the 520.
For the rm915 there is a light swap eng global. Someone recommended the Brazil CV and another said Indian since they have black.

I have heard that going from a newer version firmware back to an older one would cause a brick. I was looking at the Brazil one and it says 3046.0000.1329.2002 and my current one is att 3043.0000.1324.0001

Ok, so im new to Windows Phone and after lots of reading I still have a few small questions if anyone wouldn't care to humor a noob. So here is my situation...
I bought a lightly used, sim unlocked, RM-940 ATT branded Lumia 1520 with the intention of flashing the latest stock firmware in order to start with a clean slate and get rid of ATT's bloat as well as be able to take developer preview updates from microsoft. I use an ATT MVNO so I need to make sure it's sim remains unlocked. From what I understand the newest RM-940 ATT firmware will relock the sim to ATT, which is exactly what I don't want. So from what im reading my best option is to flash the RM-937 Global Rom. I remember there being a Dev ROM for the Lumia 920 but I havn't seen any mention of such a thing for the L1520. Am I correct in assuming that I can go backwards from RM-940 to RM-937, or is that not possible? Would anyone care to set me straight please? I would greatly appreciate it.
I'm also interested in this info. Did you find if it's actually possible to flash a Lumia 1520 RM-940 (AT&T) with a Lumia 1520 RM-937 (Global) firmware?
Thanks.
It shouldn't be able to. AT&T and global f/w support different radios, and afaik, AT&T models always use different radios than global models. Fancy USA.
Hi guys,
total n00b question.
A friend of mine brought an AT&T Moto X (1st generation) phone with him for me from the U.S. to Germany.
He bought it from the motorola.com page directly 2 years ago through the Thanksgiving promo, never got it activated and its still stock and everything, never used before.
He paid the full retail price of 400$ at the time, does it however still come with a sim/netlock?
I thought since it didn't come with a contract (where you pay only a few $ and you are bound to a 1y/2y contract) and he paid the full 400$ for it, it doesn't have any sim/net lock?
Sadly I don't have a nano sim card to try it out, before I order one from my carrier I was hoping someone could help me out with this
I know that simlock threads are not allowed, I'm not asking for an unlock, just whether a retail 400$ phone has that lock or not?
Thanks in advance!
If it's stock and on 4.4.2 or below, invest in Sunshine to unlock your bootloader. I'm not sure if AT&T sim-locked their Moto Xs. They should provide the code for free, if necessary, though since the phone was paid in full.
Thanks for the quick reply, already looked into SuneShine for unlocking the BL (its a shame that I didn't pick the T-Mobile version over the AT&T, hmm)
But worth spending another 25$ for it!
Now I'm still curious about the sim/netlock.
From what I found out by googling and reading for hours, if it has a simlock, AT&T will not unlock it cause I've never been a customer and it never was hooked up to an AT&T account, kinda bad if you ask me for a full price cell phone... The T-Mobile version comes 100% sim and BL unlocked...
Moto chat support cant help, they didn't even know that there are different versions of the Moto X 1st Gen...
It's usually less than 20 dollars to unlock them on a website that offers Sim unlocking. Not sure if at&t devices are usually OK to do so, but I would think they are. The carriers usually charge more even... In Canada anyway. ?
OK, thanks a lot!
I'm really just surprised that if you pay the full retail price for a phone it can still be sim/netlocked...
Hope you guys don't mind asking me another few questions, I'm just transiting over from my Razr I so a few things are different
If I don't need a custom recovery but planning on installing a different official Moto firmware which is signed by Moto (would love to flash the EU firmware to have full German language support) do I still need to unlock the BL or will this work with a locked BL since its an official Moto firmware?
Also are there any files I should not flash, therefore remove from the xml?
And I know that the BL unlock has nothing to do with the sim unlock, but any change if I unlock the BL and flash a different firmware, I won't need to enter a sim unlock code then?
I'm just trying to get as many answers before I try it and find out the "hard" way it won't work and that it results in a completely bricked device in the end...
AND sorry, but another question
Are the LTE bands hardware or software coded? Cause we use different bands over here in Europe and I know from the Sony Z1C you can activate all bands software-wise, so I was thinking maybe its the same with the Moto X?
Thanks again!

Wrong section, This is the 2013 section. And this thread has nothing to do with your question, that's called thread hijacking.
So you should go to the Moto X 2014 section, and if you don't see a thread on the same sort of topic.... Then post your own thread in the Q&A section. ?
So I read an insane number of pages and somewhere I found this great page:
https://www.att.com/deviceunlock/?#/
Long story short, I reveived a nano sim card today, AT&T Moto X is locked, contacted AT&T via the above mentioned website, it took 2 days and today I received my sim unlock code via email from AT&T for free, no account with them needed and it works!

With the bootloader on the ATT XT1058 being locked, you'll only be able to flash Moto Signed Roms for your phone's CID or carrier branding. You will not be able to flash the XT1052 EU rom, or other X roms. Only the ATT XT1058.
If you are lucky and your ATT XT1058 has not yet been upgraded to Android 4.4.4 and bootoader 30.B7, you should be able to use JCase's Sunshine tool to unlock the bootloader. Note: Because this is a HACK, do NOT try to re-lock the bootloader after using it, or you will be permanently bootloader locked.

I don't believe flashing a different ROM would give you SIM unlock.
You're only option is getting it from the Carrier if you meet their terms/conditions. Or buying a SIM unlock code from an online seller.

I've read different things. So I can't say for sure which is correct.
I know that the Verizon X, XT1060, initially game supporting only LTE Band 13. Band 4 was later enabled by firmware update.
But I've also seen posts of some losing their entire cellular radio when flashing other model's full roms, and not getting it back by flashing the correct rom. (I don't recall the full details, sorry!).
On other phones, I've seen things like "edits" to turn on other bands. But no so for the 2013 X.
So I wouldn't mess with it.
Thanks for the explanations @KidJoe
Until know I didn't know that a signed Moto firmware is not just bound to the model but also to a CID, always thought you could flash any region firmware over the phone as long as its the same model.
Sunshine is def. an option, I didn't take the OTA (even thou it reminds me at least once a day cause I suspected already there would be more exploits available with a lower android OS.
SIM unlock is no problem anymore, AT&T provided me the unlock key via website request (took me a while to find that link, thou) and you don't need to have an account with them and the phone does NOT need to be hooked to an AT&T contract.
About the LTE bands:
OK, I don't want to mess with the modem / radio and lose all bands in the end but could I just flash the system files from the EU version via fastboot?
Which files should I flash and which files should I avoid flashing?
Basicially what I'm trying to achieve is getting German as android language and not just have German as keyboard language.
Or is German included in the CM11 as well cause then I imagine it would be much easier to just flash CM11 without damaging any bands...
All in all, I'm just looking for a fully stable KK OS that is in German
Thanks again for your replies!

You could try using mFastboot and flash only System.img... BUT!!!! Its going to cause issues with OTA updates, and having mismatched parts always increases the risks for bricking and/or things just not working correctly!! So I usually don't recommend mixing things up.

I've not messed with adding additional languages. Nor have I used CM as I like my Moto features too much, and stock (rooted) runs just fine here.
I've gotten my hand on a Moto G 2nd Generation. Sorry I've exhausted the search engine on trying to find out what country this moto g is for. The model on the back says XT1063. It is only single sim. does not have any network branding on it. In the system information, it says Moto G (2nd generation) I've tried ATT sim, Tmobile Sim, Verizon Sim, and even bought an unlock code, but noway for me to enter the code. My only guess now is that this version is already unlocked, but for another country(india???) Does anyone know how to get to the menu to enter the unlock screen if this is indeed the global (compatible with US). The tutorials I saw just shows putting in a sim from another network and it shows the unlock code screen.
and if it is indeed a different country, may I ask which one so I can somehow try to sell it.
Thanks XDA.
in my experience i restored to stock using the tools provided in the developers section, after this my radio was not working (im from mexico) and my guess is because the radio i flashed is from US, later i restore to stock again but with radio from Mexico and got my sim working that way.
So what i trying to say is: why dont you try flashing to stock using radio for you're country, than try using the sim.
i used this

btw. i own XT1063 also.
Hi guys,
I need some clarification re: carrier unlocking and how it works. I recently purchased a carrier unlocked G920T, and I was going to start messing with custom roms/kernels and other goodies. My question is: Will the phone revert back to being locked if I do a factory reset or if I unlock the bootloader and flash custom roms?
I'm not a T-Mobile user, so I can't get another unlock code from them.
Thanks!!
The G920T has a carrier unlocked version, which is probably the one you have, not the T-Mobile one. Even if it is, usually a carrier unlocked device will remain unlocked forever unless it was unlocked using a different or hacky method, then there is a possibility that it will relock
Sent from my SM-G920T using Tapatalk
Yeahh go ahead, mess with it. when it is carrier unlocked, the software doesn't affect it, unless it is a hacky method like @serio22 said, but there isnt such hacky method for the GS6 so have fun.
If it is a G920T (the T means it's from T-Mobile), then carrier unlocking is not a guaranteed state. I paid T-Mobile the full price to get my GS6 and they "permanently" unlocked it. Then after a OTA software patch all of a sudden it locked itself again and I couldn't use my phone for 2 days while they tried to unlock it. T-Mobile's new device unlocking uses a new system which has the phone "phone home" to their servers to check if you're allowed to use it outside of their network. It happened again when I accepted the Android 5.1.1 OTA. So...beware of T-Mobile's not-very-permanent permanent carrier unlocking.
I am living in india..
My relatives brought me the t model ( i wanted f model instead of i sold in india for quicker updates but got t model...lol )
Anyways,
The moment i inserted my sim, it worked like a charm so its unlocked at the moment.
I dont know how they made payment their or how it was unlocked, but the way used must be legit coz its still stock at the moment without root / recovery etc. .
I read humo saying it can get locked again...
My main question, what are the odds of that happening?
Also since i live in india, i wont be able to contact t mobile via phone/walk in, are there ways i can get it unlocked again?
I dont have the bill too if it matters
i believe they have an app that unlock ur device since that is how i unlocked mine. if not u can try to contact customer service online since u r not in US.
With device unlock app , will i have to pay for unlock my s6 g920t or it'll unlock my device for free.
I have an unlocked s6 tmobile from usa, i heard the flashing stock rom will relock the device.
If the phone will relock then how can i unlock it again?
I'm not sure about flashing a stock ROM relocking the device. Mine re-locked when T-Mobile sent Android security patches. This week I did the Android 6.0 OTA update and it has remained unlocked.
Hey guys! i have a factory unlocked version of s6 tmobile, my question is if i can flash the tmobile MM firmware . My model says "country: cellular south" and the firmware country says us tmobile, so i dont know if i can flash without any problems, (Sorry for my english it sucks) thanks !

Got it done remotely!
I have a Galaxy S6 (SM-G920T) from T-Mobile. It was locked. But it has an "Unlock" app installed by default. I used it and phone was instantly unlocked! Fast, easy and free!
I used to live in the US for a year and bought a g920T. Since i had the requirements i Unlocked and came back to my country but because of a problem, I had to install a stock firmware and now the unlock is gone.
So i'm wondering, if someone with a unlocked phone made firmware backup, remove the IMEI, and send it online would it work? I mean, right now it works just fine, so i can backup my IMEI and ID and just restore it if needed.
Please help
