[Q & A] help Xiaomi Mi 8 won't boot - Xiaomi Mi 8 Questions & Answers

Firstly I want to thank every one here
I want to clarify for the first that the phone was already unlocked when I bought it. All go well until the day of doing this stupidity
I put the version 8.9.20 it got stuck (this miui version can't be installed on this device __1st attachment) but when I wanted to return to 10.0.20 with fastboot it tells me locked phone I managed to update to 8.10.25 with another tool but I was still stuck with this screen (1st attachment)
So I thought I need to unlock it I launch the unlocking tool he announces this message (current account is not bound to this device __2nd attachment)
Conclusion phone that has not done yet a month with totally unusable I was so happy with this phone that I could not return to iPhone.
Please find me a solution dear friends
My mi account id is 144253908
My Device is Xiaomi Mi 8 Global version bought from Gearbest

Do you have an unlocked bootloader? Flashing different rom, like you had installed on your phone (global, xiaomi.eu) need unlocked bootloader and twrp recovery. Or, if you had opened bootloader, and you flashed with Mitool, then you should unmark befor flashing the flash and lock option, cos ist closing your bootloader and bricking your device. Also have the last time xiaomi devices antirollback. For more info have a look in forum! Its already thread about this!

Can i resolve this problem with edl xiaomi cable ?

Some questions about flashing ROM so I would not end up in EDL again.

Hello, I have a few questions about flashing rom just to make sure I wouldn't end up in EDL mode again. First, let me tell something. I have bought my K20 pro on Aliexpress which come with a firmware that mark as MI 9T pro with bootloader unlocked but without TWRP install. I have tried to flash Android Q beta though fastboot without using the option Flash & Lock but i was end up in locked bootloader and then i got it fixed through EDL mode by paying someone from Russia who i don't know the name. Later on, I got another bad luck again by upgrading my official Chinese firmware through OTA and then the phone suddenly shutdown in the middle of the process which break both my recovery and fastboot so i have to go through EDL again. So, my questions are:
1. If i flash anything such as magisk, viper, or upgrade my xiaomi.eu firmware through TWRP, will something like my second story occur again? Or, does flashing through TWRP will brick both recovery and fastboot in the same or similar case?
2. After EDL mode, bootloader was unlocked by default so, what can I do to bind my MI account with the device? Because in case it locked again, then I can use xiaomi bootloader unlock tools to unlock it. In the first story, the device come with bootloader unlocked, and after flashed Android Q beta, the bootloader was triggered and locked so then I tried to unlocked it but Xiaomi bootloader unlock tools told me that my account is not bind to this device.
3. If i flash magisk, then do i need to always re-flash it on every system upgrade(xiaomi eu firmware)?

1. In theory flashing with TWRP shouldn't touch the fastboot or recovery partitions, unless you choose to. If you know what you're doing, then flashing with TWRP is reasonably safe.
2. You could try flashing an official Chinese fastboot ROM and locking the bootloader, then link it to your account. Don't try and install anything else, live with the official Chinese ROM and go through the normal unlock process. Once you've waited and got unlock permission for the phone against your Mi account, then unlock and install the ROM of your choice along with anything else.
But this does come with a small risk that the phone is still linked to the sellers account.
3. I went straight from stock to a GSI, so not sure about eu ROMs. If they have an OTA process that downloads then installs via TWRP (similar to official LOS), then it's possible Magisk will re-install at the same time. Someone who uses eu ROMs will need to confirm what happens.
For anything else, you'll needed to re-install Magisk.

I believe it is a risky method because if the bootloader is locked the phone might brick again and I have to do EDL again too. I wish if there is a safer method, because I experienced EDL mode twice already and it is terrible and need to pay lot of money just to fix it. :crying:

Flashing an official fastboot ROM in the Mi Flash Tool and selecting 'clean all and lock' "shouldn't" brick the phone. If you're on an official Chinese ROM, then going through the standard unlock process "shouldn't" brick the phone.
The biggest risk in doing this would be finding that the phone is still linked to the sellers account.
If you want to be able to unlock the bootloader with your own Mi account, should it get locked again, then this is your only option.
However, you could leave it as it is and just make sure you never lock it again.

I see. It's too bad to get an unlocked phone. I will need to be more careful next time buying a new phone.

Xiaomi now only let you unlock 1 phone per month on your Mi account. On the 1st November you will see the countdown reset to the normal 7 days.
Your options are wait until the 8th November, when you'll be able to unlock it, or EDL flash the phone. Which involves opening up the phone to put it in EDL mode and paying about $15 to then flash the phone with an authorised account.
You're not the first, so there's a handful of threads already, giving details of how to EDL flash a bricked phone.

Bricked k20 pro

Hello there,
So let me explain to you what happent to me.
1 week ago i received the notification telling me that i can update to android 10 with miui 10.4.8, so i did it and i don't know why when the phone rebooted it was stuck on start screen, infinitly loading.
I let it like this all the night, and then when i woke up it was still in the same state.
So i dedicated to flash my older rom, 10.3.5, but when i flashed it using fastboot rom the bootloader got relocked again and i had this message telling me "This miui version can't be installed on your device" in recovery
I can't unlock bootloader again because i need to add my mi account to miui (wich i have no access to), so i decided to use the EDL method, i contacted some people that have an verified miui account with EDL permission, i flashed 10.3.5 but problem is still here i made sure it was indian rom because my phone is india (raphaelin)
So here i am without a solution
Thanks in advance, i can pay if peope can help me
Use miflash and a stock rom. I've never had the bootloader relock itself through flashing.

unlocking problems - mi5

I bought a xiaomi mi5 two years ago. as this device does not receive MIUI updates anymore , I want to unlock it and install new ROM.
I downloaded miflash_unlock from MIUI site. I proceed as it says through this application for unlocking. but at last step I receive this error (see attached picture). it seems that someone has changed my ROM (from Chinese to global ) before buying this device.
anyway, pls help me how to unlock my device.
thanks

Xiaomi Mi 9T Pro Bootlooder locked

Hi Guys,
I purchsed Xiaomi Mi 9T Pro from Aliexpress with a Global Rom version but the device is a Chinese version.
The seller had to install global firmware and assosiate my device to other Mi account.
The current situation is my bootloader is locked and I can not use the Mi officially to unlock my device.
I tried to contact to the seller, but he can not assist me (they don't know the Mi account access details to release my device).
Duo to that, I tried looking the internet and found this forum. I have a good technic skill so I start tested all the suggestion the forum has to offer.
First I tried ADB and Fastboot, both are failed with the error - FAILED (remote: Token Verify Failed, Reboot the device)
I also tried miflash but he's requesting Mi account that I dont have the device their. I tried to flash a new fastboot but no success.
I really dont know what else to try, I hope someone here can spred some light on my issue from stoping my device to use as doorstops.
Thank you,
Noy
The bootloader cannot be locked to a Chinese device with a Global rom.
There is no Chinese Mi 9 t pro, the Chinese version is the K20 pro.
What is the phone model (my phone/characteristics/model)?

The device stuck on "Main Menu" MIUI Recovery 5.0 so I can not verified the phone model, but according to the seller page the model is: M1903F11A
https://www.aliexpress.com/item/33016509936.html?spm=a2g0o.order_list.order_list_main.61.21ef180253I770
I also tried to use MTK to unlocked the bootloader but I had no success to get the device into a brom mode. I can not trun the phone off, Vol+ & Vol- not works.
Is there any difference between the Mi 9 t pro and the K20 pro?
According to the model number, it is a K20 pro.
Chinese device so the bootloader is locked but with a Chinese rom since this is not possible with a global rom.
Same device except less 4G bands for the K20.
ok this is a start, any advice how to unlock the bootloader?

If the device is linked to an account that is not yours, nothing to do.
Is it a new or used device?
Check with the seller or send the phone back to him.
The device was new when I purchased it, the seller said there is no warranty on the device and he can not do anything about it. they used outsource company to do the installation of the Global ROM.
Surely there is a way to bypass Xiaomi locked on the bootloader. the Kernel can be overwrite somehow. just need to find the right way.

This model is from 2019, seems strange that Ali sells new ones.
And you still don't understand that there can't be a Global rom on this model with the bootloader locked.
The bootloader was not locked when I purchsed the device...

What you are saying now is inconsistent with your original post.
A long story to get to 'lock with fastboot'.
I'm sorry if there was a misunderstanding, here is the long story:
In 2019 I got this device from Aliexpress with a Global Rom version but the device is a Chinese version.
The phone was in English, working well with Google Play, and there was no issues with it.
In few months ago I wanted to start using Google Pay and my credit card was not approved for some reason, I contact google suppport and one of thier questions was "Have you unlocked your bootloader, rooted your device, or installed a custom ROM?"
So I started to google it, I find that my bootloader is unlocked, so I thought that I will need to lock it to be able using the Google pay service. what was found a terrible mistake.
First I understand that the only legal way to unlock it was using the Xiaomi official Mi program to unlock it. what I was found that I need Mi account with a registered device on it. my device is registered on some Chinese guy that I dont know so basically he's the legal owner of my device. so I start to look for an alternative solutions.
In my knolage with programs, I can handle with complex solutions to bypass this issue. but none of my trying wasn't succeeded. as I mentions I tried many was to bypass Xiaomi servers, now I found Miracle Box that promising to do the trick but its for only registered members. also there are some guys that said they can unlock the bootloader for money, but I dont know how trust they are....
I hope some of you guys can lead me to any idea/solution or something....
Thank you all for your time, much appriciated.

So, since 2019 you have used your device without a Xiaomi account, which severely limits Xiaomi services?
never used Xiaomi services...
Try to erase the data with the recovery or safe mode, if the option exists, but anyway if the phone is linked to an account you will be asked for the password.
Accounts are linked with a phone and email number and when you change the number a message is displayed.
Thank you, already tried it...
Is anyone know somthing about this? https://github.com/Canny1913/miunlock
Is the token is the key to success?
To sum up:
You have bricked your phone by locking the bootloader with a Global rom.
The reboot is possible but paying but when the phone reboots Xiaomi will ask you for your account and password.
Never ending Story.

Users who want to flash their phones need to study how to use tools, which ROMs to flash, etc
Eg, when flashing a ROM by Mi Flash, always uncheck relocking of the Bootloader. Then, if anything goes wrong, Bootloader will remain unlocked and one can still flash another ROM to easily unbrick the phone
