I do not have this device yet. I come from a Samsung device, and due to the Touchwiz, AOSP roms has a very large loss in camera quality. Does this problem occur with custom roms vs. stock roms in G6 Play? If yes, how much is this loss?

I have a pretty simple question . How does camera performance differ from the normal touchwiz ROM apposed to an aosp ROM. I know there is some processing that is done on the os side when pictures are taken.
So basically is the camera worse on a aosp ROM compared to a touchwiz ROM

As far quality, no but certain features like filters, camera modes, etc that's tied into samsung stock camera aren't present in AOSP.

I've tested the camera on both FireKat (TouchWiz) and CM12 Remix ROMs and I can say I was pleased with both, BUT. CM12 does not really support other features, like in-camera filters and photo mods (animated picture, sound photo etc). What I also noticed, now, please correct me if I'm wrong, but CM12 does not support other camera apps other than Google Camera and the AOSP stock Camera (which are almost the same thing). Could have been a troubly version of the rom, but I could not get the FV-5 to work, nor the camera inside Facebook Messenger (for sending photos really quick).
Otherwise, the photos look pretty much the same if made with the default filter, but you can always use apps to edit them, I got like 6 of them. I can recommend Google Snapseed, it's free and powerful. Njoy!
Oh, yeah, you also lose the voice control for the camera (the "Shoot!" or "Cheese!" voice triggering). But, damn, man, CM12 is snappy as hell..
On one TW ROM the camera wasn't as good as stock. Not sure what the deal was. I'm using the app called better camera on the CMRemix ROM. It has the features like the stock camera. As far as quality it seems just as good.
So, let's group roms in 4 kinds:
1. Stockish Sense (like ARHD)
2. Custom Sense (Venom and NuSeven with upgraded Sense)
3. Stockish AOSP (like GPes etc)
4. Custom AOSP (Specially Nougats)
For the record, i'm currently on a OV camera sensor, the original ST (although susceptible to pinking) was far better.
Which kind of rom do you believe provides the best results ?
In my experiences, there's no difference between Stock Sense, Custom Sense, and Stock AOSP.
Custom AOSP is lacking HDR, and i feel there's something else missing, but i can't put my finger to it. Also, 60fps recording is gone, but the OV sensor is pretty crappy on this aspect.
Opinions ?
When new ROMs release (like LineageOS), how will the camera perform?
Will it include the same quality, AI and specs like the main ROM?
And... I've seen that new official ROM/Firmware updates can update the camera quality via AI, will that be possible to include in the ROMs easily? Is that part of the Treble partition? Or that is not part of the Treble and opensourced, and thus quite difficult to include?
I've currently seen in the unofficial LineageOS that the camera support is still poor.
I have been using Galaxy note 8 for more than one year on stock Rom, pictures were bright and clear, but I have observed that their quality is inferior while using custom Roms, tried many custom Roms but couldn't get stock results. Even Samsung Camera app doesn't perform so well on custom Roms compared to the stock firmware. Is it normal?
Its always like that. Samsung , like others, optimizes its software to work the best with its hardware - hence the quality in the pictures is better on stock roms. Although , you can use stock customizable roms like Exy or Deluxe Rom , which have stock camera apps.
Many will argue though , that gcam app is better in some scenes and when using HDR+ but..

That is correct as 3rd Party OS developers do not have access to the Camera Optimization Settings used by device OEMs on their devices.
While some 3rd party camera apps maybe able to replicate the visual quality of pics of the OEMs. They are not 100% the same results.
I wounder how the camera is with customs roms? Pixel, Linage, AOSP...?
Xiaomi use their own Android; MIUI which is a bit different which is why I suspect that the camera can get worse with the custom roms... Or am I wrong?
