Is there anyway to test hardware functions?

I remember (but not for sure) a settings page that gave you the ability to test different sensors and what-not. the reason for my question is because when i make a call the proximity sensor doesnt work, and i wanna know is it because of the rom or anything software related, or is it the sensor itself, since i recently had repair done on the screen.
thanks.
Nobody knows? i got a 30-day warrenty, so if my proximity sensor really isnt working i need to know soon.
I've used an app previously that would display raw readouts from the various sensors in the device, including the proximity and ambient light sensors. Stand by while I try to find what app that was...
In the meantime, you can at least verify that half of the sensor is working by looking at the screen through a digital camera or other phone's camera. The proximity sensors works off of a flashing IR LED that you should be able to see through a digital imaging sensor. The sensor is located to the left and below the speaker.
Also, I believe the application I was using is called "Elixir", and is free on the Market.
Thanks man, great app. everything is working ok now.

Super shaky Gyroscope. Is there any fix for this? Somebody can confirm this issue?

Hello, I recently bought the "Google Cardboard" and I noticed that all apps I tried were shaking a lot (Even if I just leave the phone on the table). It seems to be an Gyroscope issue.
Noticed the same in Google Camera (360º Picture Mode). It doesn't happen in Google Street View as it seems to apply some kind of filtering. Is there any fix for this?
I've been told that the Samsung Phones doesn't suffer from that kind of shaking
Is there any way to calibrate the Gyroscope? Or at least to apply some kind of shaking filter globally to all apps?
Can somebody please confirm if they have the same issue (And if this issue has been fixed on Android L)? [I'm on Android KitKat]
Greetings.

I have the same problem.
Interface of Google cardboard is very shaky.
Google camera's lens blur doesn't work for me; it says device moved too quickly whereas i didn't even move it a cm. (Kitkat)
Everyone should have this problem I think so.
I think the gyroscope is not calibrated correctly

Fixed? Where? In Android Lolipop?
I have Moto G 2014 European version so I still haven't received the Update.
Or is there some other fix? I'm very interested in this.
Okay that message was because a thought this was solved. Anyways it works on lollipop very well. Its very steady but if i try to hold steady it shakes a little. On KitKat my gyroscope reacted very sensitive (slightest movement even registers) So my suggestion is maybe use lollipop? or try this app: A thread about how to recalibrate the gyroscope sensor
Anways hope it works wish you much lucky

I am using lollipop on my moto g 2014, and videos are still shaky!

I'm having the same problem. Mine was working, but I flashed a new ROM and it stopped. I deleted that ROM and went back to stock, but the problem is still there.
When I start moving left, the phone thinks I'm moving right and vice-versa. It hardly detects any movement, even if I do a full 360 rotation.
I am also unable to view VR photos in Google Cardboard correctly. This is really frustrating and I have no idea how to fix it.
Have you had any luck?
I found the same, infuriating problem in all the ROMs I tried.
I read in another thread (possibly another forum, I can't remember now) a post from a Moto dev who acknowledged the issue and stated they would fix it in the next update. I installed the latest 6.0 soak test and the first thing I checked was the gyro, which appears to have been fixed.
Google cardboard runs as smooth as butter, with no shaking or anything.
In CM13 devs have fixed the sensors also added some new ones.
gyroscope is working correctly on CM13 too

Calibrate accelerometer and/or gyroscope

Hi!
I am facing problems with the orientation sensors (accelerometer and/or gyroscope), because installing several applications to test them (or use games), it is clearly observable, that they are a bit off (with enough to be disturbing when required). For example, games or tests that simulate a ball, and my phone is laying on a horizontal table, the ball rolls quickly to the edge of screen. This happens as well with the built-in tests in the "service menu" of the phone, for accelerometer and gyroscope also.
Do you have any suggestions how could I calibrate these sensors globally (for every app)?
Thanks.

factory Reset ur phone and then use PC companion app to Repair Firmware...
this can wipe current data and install fresh firmware on ur device
:good:
Hi,
I have the same problem. Only the x axis of the accelerometer seems to be affected : it show a value around 1 instead of 0 while the phone is sitting flat. Y and Z display normal values.
All the software solutions I have tried have had no effect at all... It seems the built-in test reads raw data from the accelerometer. It is hard to imagine how this can be a hardware problem though...
Anyway, in my case I believe a software fix (x=x-1) would do the trick but I have no idea how to do such a thing ! Any help ?
@vekto : Have you solved the issue by any chance ?
Would anyone care to try the accelerometer tests and post their results ?
Typing *#*#7378423#*#* will get you on the service menu. The two significant tests are "accelerometer" and "gyroscope".
I'd post some screenshots myself but I'm not allowed yet...
I'm having the same problem now. It seems one axis is affected. Haven't found a way around so far. This is sad because it affects the images taken with Google Camera Sphere mode. The images are badly aligned together with glitches in between. My phone wasn't like this before.
Either a SW fault - might be able to calibrate with GPS Status & Toolbox app, for example - or a FW fault - and reflashing ROM might help (highly unlikely) - or HW fault - the sensor has moved on the board (which is a bad sign anyway, might be on the way to disconnecting itself).
I sent mine to Xperia Care and got it back with the accelerator fixed. Still unclear if it's a HW problem...
It came back with a white spot on the screen (near the power button) though... so I sent it back again
I'm also having issues with the gyroscope. Installed Bubble app to calibrate the gyro. It showed the gyro was of a couple of degrees. Unfortunately the bubble app calibration doesn't work in a game like Need for Speed. It's very difiicult to achieve good times in the game right now since I have to hold it tilted to the left to go straight ahead.
So if anyone has a fix or workaround... Please do post.
Same problem, Seems after factory reset whith wipe dalvik cache.
any solution?
02nd March 2017, my autorotate has completely stopped working, restart, safe-deposit and reset do not fix. Diagnostics show Gyroscope Light Sensor and accelerometer failed testing, 3 years of same issue, surely there must be a fix that works by now?? ( please note, " turning it off and on again " does not fix it )
Helps Please
I have the same issue. Since last week, gyro, accelerometer, light and proximity sensors stop working. I've tried reflashing stock ROM without success. I have not warranty (almost 3 years old), so I even try to disassemble , disconnect an reconnect every flex (I don't know exactly were the sensors are located on the board). After that I get almost 8 hours of fully functionally sensors and then, they stop working again, so I'm almost sure it's a hardware issue.
Same problem for 3 years
I'm just now getting around to doing something about this. As my power button stopped working I can't post requested screenshot without going to the pc. I have been shopping new (fall 2018) phones after having the Z3+ since release. In my research I'm finding the phone still is better than Samsung, LG, and the pixel3 for me because the 3.5mm phone jack is mandatory for me using my device with an i-rig midi requiring both that port and the USB at the same time. I'm going to do everything I can to keep using this phone till it falls to dust. It's one of 4 Sony I've bought since the day Z1 came out of t-mo. I look forward to testing solutions. :good:
Some time after my post, I bought a new jack/proximity sensor flex and replace it. This solved the issue, but weeks later, the bottom portion of the touch screen becomes unresponsive. May be I have done something wrong... may be programmed obsolescence...
Hi I'm facing a problem of my gyroscope I don't know which one is not working a gyroscope or accelerometer. My gyroscope is so delay when I play pubg mobile and I can't also calibrate my Gsensor it always says FAIL but I put in a perfect flat surface please please please help me with this problems

Rear camera-hardware detected, yet black image. Camera "bus" malfunctioning?

Rear camera-hardware detected, yet black image. Camera "bus" malfunctioning?
Hi
Half a year ago my girlfriend accidentally gave my Z3 Compact a rollercoaster ride in our washing machine (full tour). The screen broke, but it could turn on and everything looked fine (gave no errors) when connecting to HDMI.
Yesterday I received a replacement LCD, which gave it a new life. It seems that everything works except for the rear camera. When opening any camera-app, the HUD is visible, but image is black, and no error. If i switch to front camera, which works, and back to the rear camera, it shows a freezed image of the last image from the front camera.
I checked some debug-apps to see if it detects the camera-module, and it does. If it's connected, alle the specs of the camera is listed, and if disconnected, the module is not listed.
I then got a broken Z3 Compact from a friend, and I tested both rear camera modules in both phones. The modules are working in his phone, both doing the same black screen in mine.
I tried hard reset, PC Companion-repair, updates, clearing camera cache etc., but with no luck.
Do you have any suggestion to how I can fix this?
Do you know where on the motherboard I could look for dirt in relation to some "rear camera bus/chip"?
Thank you for any help!
Edit: And isn't it amazing that this phone works to this extend after 2½ hours in 60 degrees celcius (140 fahrenheit) warm water with soap and 1400rpm? Wow! (Btw., all panels were open, and screen totally broken, so water must have been everywhere in the phone.)
I have a similar issue on my partners z3c after the screen cracked, I have replaced the screen and it works great however the camera shows a black screen. I know the camera module is working as I have tried it in another phone. Having searched for this issue I seen it has effected quite a few others not only those who have opened their phone.
what software you used to debug so I can verify that the phone can also see the camera module
This is happening to me too a year down the line of ownership.
Replaced with new camera from eBay still black screen. Between your experience and mine of both testing the camera we've prices it's not the lens, so what could it be.
Need to fix don't know what to do
The camera module itself may work but the chip which handles the rear camera may be damaged even if the phone works pretty good.
So if the chip or anything else related to the camera is dead, you can even try thousands of camera modules from different phones on YOUR phone, none of them will work.
That's my opinion - guy's who work in electronical industry for 3,5 years now and have seen hunderds of differend kinds of damages on different stuff.
I see what you are saying however it would be nice to have an idea of where any chip/bus is that may be damaged to see if it xan be fixed or is replaceable.

Yes, you are 100% right but there's another thing.
In the present times, in a rush of miniaturization, there's a little chance of such reapair to be profitable. The chip/bus may be damaged but in fact not only one thing may be dead... I'm talking about tiny little resistors, capacitors, diodes, transistors (if there are any on the motherboard...) which are many. I'm not saying it won't be possible to repair the phone but without a proper diagnosis what is damaged... I'd be like looking for a needle in a haysack and everyone can tell you that only replacing the whole motherboard will be worth the time.
But still... this is an interesting case of malfunction... I hope you'll find a solution for this or at least someone else will do it for you for a reasonable price.

Focus Issues on Anything Farther Than a Couple of Meters - Mi A2 Camera

I recently started taking more pictures with the phone and I realized the camera on my MI A2 has serious troubles focusing on anything that's farther than a couple of meters. The camera takes spectacular pictures at close range but stuff that's just a bit farther away goes AoF really easily.
I noticed in a couple of posts that people were complaining about the camera dying on them and I started wondering whether I got a faulty camera module or I'm just pushing the limits of this device's camera? Has anybody else experienced a similar problem?
I'm currently posting from my laptop but I could add a few samples taken with the phone if it helps you people understand the issue. Notice that camera2api is currently not active and I'm on MIUI 10 (but the issue was also present on stock - in fact the only way for me to get sharp photos was to activate camera2api, download open camera, activate face recognition and let it auto-focus, which is what makes me think it might be a software rather than a hardware issue, since the camera can focus through open camera).
