I just received my new Xiaomi Mi A2 (Global version 4/64). It's working fine for now (I also have the FPC fingerprint sensor, lucky me). I checked on the Xiaomi site using both the serial number and the IMEI code, the unit is 100% legit. Now, the phone has the build number 9.6.6.0.ODIMIFE with security patch from June 5, 2018. I didn't root or modify anything (and I'm not planning on doing any of that stuff for now). When I check for a new updates... the phone says that is already updated, which is not correct of course. While I was looking for a solution, I found this thread with a very similar issue https://forum.xda-developers.com/mi-a2/help/ota-updates-mi-a2-purchase-t3839661. Now, I live in Italy and I set my device with an UK SIM inside (giffgaff) and I also always like to set it in American English during the first setup. With this setup I can't find any updates. After reading that thread I inserted my Italian SIM (TIM), rebooted the phone, checked again and... still nothing. I tried with Wi-Fi and with mobile data. No luck. I am running out of ideas here. Should I reset everything with the Italian SIM and set the language to Italian during the initial setup?
Also, I have another question that is not related to this problem: if I want to do a clean restore in the future, do I need to modify the recovery and/or root the device? Because I now that I can download the ROM file from Xiaomi itself here http://en.miui.com/download-353.html, but I am kinda confused for how to properly use it. I only find steps for Xiaomi devices with MIUI OS, not Android One by Xiaomi.
Sorry for the long post and thanks for the help everyone!

All right, I am trying to find some tutorial about it online, I guess the procedures is the same for both the Android One and MIUI devices right? I am still a little confused and scared to screw everything up.

Thanks to your advice I was able to restore and update. I have the October patches now, I just red that the November patches have been released but I can't find those as well thorough OTA. I guess it's because they are rolling out slowly. So I hope I fixed the OTA problem for now.
While I was checking if everything was all right I notices this weird numbers under storage, is there any way to fix this? It really annoys me. Under other apps it says 35GB. Screenshot: https://imgur.com/a/r8wE92A
EDIT: Added more screenshot, it's worse than imagined. A lot of systems apps weight around 500MB.
Same here, i just received my second A2.
First one was ok directly (was able to update directly to lastest version) and phone is on november update.
The second was stuck at june, then decided to flash lastest xiaomi rom, i'm now on October patch but still not able to get november OTA ...
I don't understand ...
EDIT : i've also the same problem with some application size ... like sim toolkit 515 mo !
What the problem with our A2 ?

After hours spending restoring with different MiFlash versions and also ROM versions I've found a "solution". Restore using MiFlash but put the phone first in FastBoot and then in Download Mode with "fastboot oem edl". Only at that point start the process. It does take a few more minutes (it must be a cleaner way to restore) and with that the crazy storage problem was gone. But I still can't find any OTA. Right now I have the September update V9.6.13.0.ODIMIFE. So in the end I am back to square one... If anyone has some new suggestion I'd really appreciate that.
My priority is to get OTA (that's why I have this phone) and I'm done today to do extra flash on it
If it remains like this i'll send it back to the seller.
It's weird ...

Yes it’s super annoying, having an Android One phone and having to deal with all this problem... it’s not right at all. I’d still advise to give it a try with Download Mode when you want to give it a try. Tomorrow I’ll try some other stuff for this OTA.
I managed to to go dl mode but no way to go to this mode

In DL mode start the flashing procedure with MiFlash in the same way you would do with FastBoot.
Apparently there is no OTA available for My A2, with no security patch, probe with several firmware versions and none opted for OTA, the only option so far was to install the version with the October patch, but not find any more available OTA , before this problem I had received the security patch of November, after that I installed a GSI ROM of PIE and when returning to firmware Stock I found with this surprise that there is no OTA anymore.
I had done the same thing several times and it had never happened to me, so I think they removed all OTAS from the server.

When you go in fastboot you have to type once this two commands:
fastboot oem unlock
fastboot flashing unlock_critical
They will wipe everything twice. Only then go in fastboot and then in Download Mode with "fastboot oem edl".
it's working better thanks !

Hi.
I bought my Mi 5 from GearBest and it came with MIUI 7.3.8.0. I'm new to Xiaomi phones, so bear with me please!
I was trying to update it and I found out I should flash the fastboot version of the Global ROM (8.0.2.0). But to do that, I believe I need to unlock the BL. I asked for the unlock permissions, got them. When unlocking, I get an error "Couldn’t Verify Device". I found out it might be related to the fake ROM situation.
To go around, I discovered I could use EDL to flash the ROM, but apparently after 7.3.?.? it has been disabled by Xiaomi. Even tried to put EDL into the phone through ADB but it failed. Also tried to use Mi PC Suite, in both English and Chinese, to flash recovery and none of them worked. In the English version, it says I have version 7.2.4.0 and tries to flash a Chinese 8.0.12.0 version (see photo attached). One time it even completed the procedure in the phone (bar went all the way) but now the phone doesn't boot (bootloop).
I'm not one to give up, but I'm running out of ideas! Please, any help would be greatly appreciated! Thank you.

Yes, of course. That was the first thing I did. As I mentioned, it failed with the error message in the OP (or similar, I tried everything so the message might be close).
Bootloader can't unlocked with a "shop rom".
You must first install Global Dev or China Dev ROM.
As far as you can boot the phone into the "pc suite" mode (power on phone with volume up key pressed), you should be able to flash to global dev with latest pc suite version.
Follow this guide: http://www.gizbeat.com/10386/xiaomi-mi5-unbrick-after-bricked-from-failed-edl-flash-method-2/
Progress bar in the pc suite software is a joke, wait at least 30 minutes.

I managed to finish the update through the recovery flash in Mi PC Suite, now I have 8.0.12.0 MAACNDI, which I would think is a Chinese Developer version. I still can't unlock, neither update through the app in Android and I can't find a way to flash a different version with Mi PC Suite, it just says it's updated.
Sorry, just noticed that your phone is already in bootloop.....same happened me, I think the progress bar on the phone is only indicator for the file copy from pc to phone but NOT for flash process.
As mentioned, same happened me. I solved that with a "deep flash" cable http://xiaomitips.com/guide/miui-deep-flash-engineering-cable-solution-to-non-edl-device/
With the deep flash cable you can follow this howto http://www.igeekphone.com/flash-miui-global-stable-rom-on-xiaomi-mi5-running-china-stable-rom-tutorial/
You need to scroll down to the howto for locked bootloader.

Really? Thought you have bricked you phone
8.0.12.0 MAACNDI is china stable, just download Global dev fromhttp://en.miui.com/download-299.html and copy it to your phone or download it direclyt on your phone.
Then start the ota updater app on phone, click the three dots in the top right corner, there is should be an option "choose update package" or so......... and just pick the downloaded ota file.

Me too! But I run it one more time and it finished.
The CN in 8.0.12.0 MAACNDI means it's China, but I saw it's actually the last one. I tried to do what you said but with Global Dev and it said "Can't Verify Package"... I'm now downloading China Dev, should it be any different?
I updated from global stable to global dev, so maybe it is not possible to go directly from China stable to global dev.

Plug your phone to a pc, open whichever folder you have adb and stuff installed in, hold shift + right click to have "open cmd here" click it, via cmd do
Fastboot devices
If your device shows up, do
Fastboot oem unlock
Fastboot flashing unlock
Fastboot flashing unlock_critical
Each one of these will reboot your device after you swipe to confirm, so to make sure it reboots in bootloader hold down Vol - after you confirm unlock

Idk why people use MIUI if it causes problems to their phones because Xiaomi pretty much puts a lock on devices and other **** in the name of "security" because of supposed phone theft in china
As soon as ARB was a thing everyone should've jumped ship and stopped using that rom

I never tried. Normally it should work. if you have access to the fastboot mode then you can try. Normally the file is used to bypass ARB 4. The purpose of the img file is to register your CMD. the simplest for our super mid 6X would still be to use an EDL cable available on Amazon for the price of 10 dollars. if you flash a new ROM then think to erase the udapt firmware folder.

Did you try to flash custom rom using miflash?
Hi! I have the same issue on my Xiaomi Mi 11 Pro (It was Chinese) but it came unlocked with xiaomi.eu rom.
After i installed a global rom, and google wallet nfc pay did not work, so i thought okay i will lock it then so maybe wallet would accept it, (with the eu rom it worked before) so i put the device in fastboot and used fastboot oem lock on cmd...
And from then it stucks on miui recovery 5.0 screen, and says, this miui version can't be installed on this device...
I might not enabled oem unlocking before i shut if off, but i added it to my mi account so i dont know if after a week i can maybe unlock it. But i think the other possible solution would be to sideload the original chinese stock rom, which is for M2102K1AC, Mi 11 pro, codename mars, but i couldn't find it anywhere... If someone can upload a link to it, that would be a huge help! Or any idea! thx!
geraldmany said:
HI! i got a mi 11 pro 1 year ago, and it was offically chinese, but it came unlocked with Xiaomi.eu firmware, but i could't update it via the updater app, so i searched and found the global star version and just flashed it, everything worked, only now google pay nfc didnt work, it said that its probably because of the unlocked bootloader, so i got to fastboot and in cmd i sent fastboot oem lock, and since then my phone is stuck in miui recovery 5.0 screen and says that i cannot run this firmware on the device, i tried to unlock it but failed, maybe after a week, but i think that i didnt turn on oem unlocking on the phone itself before this... So im just hoping that after a week unlocking could be done... Or my other idea is, that i could install the original chinese rom with sideload, because i managed to install another global version on it since, but the result is still the same, the only problem is that i cannot find literally anywhere a mars codenamed firmware...

Anyone who might have the same situation, i found a simple, but effective solution, not sure if it works on every xiaomi device, but i will write down the steps here:
You need to use XiaomiADB, here is the download link and the description for how to use it -> https://xiaomiui.net/how-to-use-xiaomiadb-8044/ (if the page is not available, then feel free to msg me!)
For xiaomi adb, you need to go to 3rd option on the miui recovery screen, NOT THE FASTBOOT
So basically i went through the steps to “xiaomiadb sideload_miui <filename>”
And I tried to install a rom, BUT IT DIDNT ACCEPT IT!
The message was:
ERROR: This rom cannot be installed, server code -> 2001, server message -> Can't install unofficial rom
after trying 4 times all the same and: Installation of this rom via stock recovery is not allowed by Xiaomi
Says Installation failed, and then i just decided to download another rom so i PLUGGED OUT THE PHONE right after this, and went to another room to connect to wired network, to download and try a different rom... when i came back, to all my surprise, the phone was turned on, so i went to the setting dev ops and enabled bootloader unlocking, linked it to my account enabled adb and everything that is needed to flash another rom later, so then i rebooted and again, miui recovery 5.0 screen, but now i enabled unlocking, so i put the phone in fastboot, and tried MI UNLOCKER TOOL again, now it says: Please unlock 168 hours later. And do not add your account in MIUI again, otherwise you will wait from scratch.
So that means, after 7 days i wll be able to unlock it, until then, i can turn it on with the above method, in short try to sideload (copy and install) a rom to it, and then after it failed, plug it out and just wait like 10-20 maybe 30 seconds and bam your device is normally booted... I hope it helps to some of you, (i have been searching for the solution for almost a week, my other option was to pay someone who can MAYBE do it or send the phone back to china and pay the repairs, so im really happy with this method! If it helps to you, please reply so i and the others will know that it worked! Have a nice day!
Long story short, my gf Redmi Note 10 Pro somehow got to MIUI Recovery menu and 3rd party service managed to erase recovery and everything from the phone and gave back the fresh looking brick stuck on Fastboot!!!
I have successfully flashed EEU Sweet ROM (Europe (EEA) latest Fastboot ROM MIUI V12.5.6.0.RKFEUXM) on the Global version though and after that it comes to recovery menu but it shows in red "NV data is corrupted" now I am clueless what to do next. Desperate me tried to flash Global latest Fastboot ROM MIUI V12.5.9.0.RKFMIXM but it gives Anti Rollback error so based on info here https://www.xda-developers.com/xiao...78.2028059671.1642858063-854958160.1642858063 I have checked the Anti_version.txt of the current ROM and the one I try to install and both is on 3 so based on the info I should be able to flash to the same number but it wasn't successful so I tried to edit Flash_all.Bat file and remove the ARB check commands but even after that I still get the ABR error. What should I do? Am I taking a wrong path in solving the issue? Would flashing it again solve the "NV data is corrupted" issue?
I dunno if this helps, but I was stuck in Fastboot as well at some time. Nothing helped, not even flashing through fastboot. The only tool that helped me was the Xiaomi Tool V2 https://www.xiaomitool.com/V2/ here. No ad or something but this really helped alot without problems.

It all started suddenly, out of nowhere the phone rebooted on Fastboot so it was taken to a 3rd party service and their they tried to fix it by wiping the phone to an unrecoverable state and said this is a new model so the files are not yet published you better take it to an authorized service!!!Oh I am mad! I'll report after trying the tool. Btw the other solution you mentioned was the 1st thing I tried but the file in 1st step is removed from the hosting server and someone asked the thread creator to reupload but no reply yet :/

Ok so now I tried with the tool and interestingly I had to make choices which were not easy and obvious anyhow, it didn't work
It gives the below error and seems to be called "sideload" status issue. But the phone now still reboots on Main Menu with the same old "NV data is corrupted"

Maybe you installed the wrong rom?

I could finally flash the latest Global version but the error persists. Accidentally I did flash the phone with clean all and lock ticked Now I cannot even flash anything as bootloader is locked! How can I fix it help please
Here is the wrong selection on MI Flash! Is there anyway to get it unlocked?
Soo, long story short, i hard bricked this phone and i definitely need good advice. Please bear with me:
I got a Poco M5s,
I wanted to install official PE on it.
I successfully unlocked bootloader (mtk client method)
I ****ed up because i flashed the recovery, but it was for the wrong MIUI version (i had A13 - SFFEUXM and PE needs A12 - RKLMIXM)
Then i compounded my mistake because i booted to fastboot over linux and flashed A12 - RKLMIXM (flashall.sh). The phone never booted after that.
Now the phone is fully unresponsive: Black screen and power/volume buttons seem to do nothing.
I tried to use SP Flash to reflash A13 - SFFEUXM, but it failed and wanted me to remove battery and retry.
I tried to disassemble the phone, specifically removing/reattaching the battery plug: no change in response & SP flash did not seem to download anything
I also tried to see if mtk client can detect the device, but worryingly, it thinks it is a Helio G90 (MT6785) instead of G95, and then fails with "DAXFlash - [LIB]: Error on sending emi: unpack requires a buffer of 12 bytes"
I'm totally disappointed at this point. Is this salvageable? What can i do?

Thank you very much! I managed to restore it with this!
I also learned a bit about "EDL mode".
One more question: Can i actually rollback to MIUI 12.5? What did i do wrong before?

I have tried to rollback to 12.5 too. Got a bootloop. So I searched online about it and found out that you need to use the latest Mi Flash tool ( I used 2020 version ). Then I tried with the 2022 version but this time I was getting a timeout error. The flash was stopping at 700 seconds. Since I have a really old and slow PC, it takes about 1200 seconds to flash. After that I have given up.
Which version of Mi Flash tool did you try? Try with the latest version if you have a relatively fast PC.

I've tried various miflash versions (2017,2018,2020,2022). It always times out.
On linux, i managed to complete a flash using "flash_all.sh", but that's how i bricked it.
Hello, don't know if it is the good place for this but I have done the latest update (I have a Poco M5s with the version 13.0.10.0) and I just found the recovery flash for it (same version, Global.). I managed to unlock the phone after a few weeks of the phone being unrecognized by the pc, no matter how hard I tried to get the updated adb and android drivers. The latest Windows update included the Android drivers (which enabled me to unlock the bootloader).
I am planning to flash it using Magisk, any advice or things I should know?
