Hey all, still using my budget 2014 device in 2018 and this thing is nearing its demise. However, I need one more favor from this community.
After using it unlocked for ~3 years, through cm13 and LOS, I've finally gotten a shared cellphone plan from my parents this past summer. Calls, texts, and data were working great when I popped in the sim. Keep in mind, my Titan was on Ressurrection Remix Oreo when I first got the AT&T sim. A few days after getting the fresh new sim I decided I wanted to go back to RR Nougat, since Oreo was too slow and I like Nougat much better. I flashed the RR Nougat ROM (with the SIM still inside if that makes a difference) with TWRP, then gapps and magisk as usual. Booted it back up, and found out the data does not work.
The issue here is that the Data shows as connected on quick settings and Data Usage, but when I try to go to google on my browser it does not use the data. Same thing for Reddit, Instagram, etc, they all respond as not connected.
I've tried everything I could think of to fix it: APN settings, network settings reset, cleared dalvik and cache, reflashed roms, my parents even took me to the AT&T store to have the guy there try and fix it. He said there's nothing wrong with my account; They have confirmed my account, my number, my APNs, a signal is coming to my phone, everything is correct- it's just that my phone isn't using the data.
I can still call and send sms perfectly. But it's only one gigabyte of data (Yeah, I know) and I still would like to have the Data for emergency purposes. Any other last ideas? (Images attatched.)

I have been having the issue where Google talk looses connection to the server repeatedly. I have to go back to the main gtalk screen to get it log back. I had this problem on Cog 4.5.3 and continuing on CM7, which I flashed today (nightly 181). This seems to be the only issue. I have search around the forum and the interwebz and have yet to find any actual solution to this problem. Any help from the XDA crew would be greatly appreciated!
I am using an Atrix 4g, CherryPi build, and this same problem recently started for me over this past weekend. Before that, it was working fine, but for some reason, it now loses connection to gtalk everytime I back out of the app. Hopefully someone can find a solution.
I'm having this issue since Friday December 2nd.
Everything works fine over Wi-Fi but when I'm connected to AT&T 3G network the Google Services keep loosing connection and then reconnect.
It is not only Google Talk, it is all Google Services including Google Voice and GMail - now I get my messages late and sometimes I have to manually refresh to get new messages.
It is happening on my phone that runs CM7.1 and my wife's phone that runs CM6 and never been updated since December last year.
No settings were changed on either phone but both of them started having this problem last Friday.
I spend half an hour on the phone with AT&T technical support but they were useless and just said they have opened a case and will investigate.
Moreover, sometimes Gmail over IMAP was not available ("cannot connect to server") and Chase bank app could not connect to Chase server either
The problem still exists today for the 4th day.
Again, everything works 100% perfect over my home wi-fi connection, so there is clearly no phone or ROM problem.
Are you guys all on AT&T network or are you with other carriers and countries?
I am going to an AT&T store today to test a phone on display.
BTW, my phone is Samsung Captivate (Galaxy S), rooted, running CM7.1
I personally believe that AT&T is having problem with their APN.
My brother has SGSII and he is using a different APN that is only available to customers that have newer "4G" (HSDPA+) phones.
When he switched to "wap.cingular" he had the same issue in GTalk.
But he has no problem with Google Services using AT&T's new APN:
APN: phone
instead of "wap.cingular"
But this is only available to HSDPA+ customers. I cannot switch to this APN.
I'm with you guys. I noticed today that I would lose my data connection when using many different Google services. Talk, GMail, and YouTube all cause my to lose my data connection (bars go grey from the normal blue, meaning I can make calls and do SMS, but I have no data connection).
Google Talk:
As long as I am on the main screen, I am connected and can see who is online and offline. As soon as I click on a person's name, I start to lose my connection. Occasionally I can get a message out before I lose my data connection, most of the time I can't.
GMail:
Messages come in on a LONG delay over mobile data, and when I am in the GMail application, I lose my data connection.
YouTube: The app loads, I can search for videos, I can even choose videos, but they will never load. I lose my data connection until I back out of Youtube.
All of this works just fine over Wifi.
Anyone have any additional information for us? When I noticed the problem, nothing had changed on my phone for weeks (I'm running Atrix CM7 nightly 20, which was released back before Thanksgiving). Tonight I did a full wipe in fastboot and reinstalled everything from scratch, and I have the same problem.
DK
P.S. I am on AT&T in Massachusetts.
Here is what I did as a temporary workaround.
I gave AT&T my brother's SGS II IMEI and told them that this is my new phone.
After the new IMEI was posted to my profile the data plan code has changed from SMT2GB to HSSMT2GBH
This way I have gained access to AT&T's new gateway (APN: phone).
With this gateway I have a stable connection to Google Services and the GTalk works perfectly, no jumping in and out.
The only problem is that I tried so many options but I could not setup the access point for MMS.
I don't usually use MMS anyway, so no big deal to me.
I consider it as a temporary workaround, hoping that AT&T is going to fix their wap.cingular anytime soon. It's been 4 days so far. And every technical support rep I spoke to says that he/she never heard about this problem before and this was their first time ...

Full wipe (or clear data, clear cash, etc.) won't help here, this is clearly AT&T's problem. But I was about to do the same before I found out that my wife's phone acts exactly the same way. This saved me from setting up my phone from scratch
P.S. I have visited an AT&T Retail Location today and tested a few 3G phones they have on display - same problem detected.
(Woodbridge, New Jersey)
OK, guys. The problem is gone this morning.
I have a stable connection to all Google Services through "wap.cingular" APN.
Congradulations AT&T, it took 4 days to fix the problem ...

Ha, if I had found this thread yesterday it would have saved me several ROM installs. Oops
AT&T
Just a little update, if anyone would read this thread.
In February-March AT&T had the same problem with wap.cingular again and other APN had no problem.
Googel used to sing in and out all the time and quite a few websites were not loading at all giving me a message "page cannot be found"
Speaking to an AT&T rep was useless as always.
The first guy told me AT&T cannot guarantee 100% access to the internet at all times and there is nothing they could do about it.
Second guy called me a few times, he even tested a phone (or at least he said so) and did not find any problem. Then he called me back again and wanted me to do a factory reset. I told him I'm not doing it, peroid. My wife's phone does the same this and so does my old LG Incite with STOCK windows 6.1. I also told him that I'm not using their AT&T stock bloatware, since I told him that he started to push to the point that my problem was with unsupported OS and this was not AT&T's problem. I told him that I pay AT&T for SERVICE and not for the phone support and repeated that the other two devices have the same problem. I told him I'm not an average lamer-user, therefore he can't give me all that BS. He had nothing to reply but only promise to call me back WHICH NEVER HAPPEND.
Yes, he never called me back.
But next day the problem was gone. Maybe they found the problem and he was embarassed to call me back? Maybe the problem was gone by itself like it started. I don't know.
But it's all OK now since then.
Last week I flashed ICS 4.0.4 and now the phone is even faster and only better!

Funny thing happened on Friday 10am (14:00utc time), International note, stock 4.04 with the hardcore speedmod k3-15 kernal
I had used my phone for email, couple phone calls, checking a few websites then all of a sudden, I noticed a fail to send an email,
then I couldn't get any websites to respond. Tried everything I knew of to fix it.
When connected to wi-fi, everything web related worked, just not on the HSPA+, 3G, or 2G radio. Phone, texting worked without
any issues. Pulled battery, Sim, SD card, let it search for networks...nothing worked.
Stopped by an at&t store....first thing the drone said was "it's not an at&t phone"....told him it worked perfectly for the 11 months
I've had it. He popped the back cover, pulled the sim, said "here's your problem, this is an old outdated sim card (old blue one with
the orange 3g logo), he installed a new one (which I knew wouldn't fix it) and it still didn't solve it. He looked at my account and said
the IMEI numbers on the account didn't match the phone, so he changed it on the account. Still no good.
He called and had them "re-provision" the phone...still no good. He gave up, told me to call 611.
Well, after telling the surprisingly pleasant dude on the phone yes I know it isn't an at&t phone, yes it is unlocked, yes I got it
off Amazon...he tried a few things & gave up. He said someone would call me later after he checked to see if there were any
issues with Android & their system today.
I turned the data off on the phone, since it was trying to connect all the time, running my battery down and just did without data
the rest of the day. Around quitting time for work, I turned the data back on and now everything is running normally.
Ok, now that I've gone through all of that....any guess as to what happened to cause it to work one minute, then just stop data,
then work hours later?
I had heard that the carriers were banding together, to stop stolen phones from working, and wondered if maybe since my phone
isn't a "carrier phone", and, since my IMEI number on their system was still set for the old Dell Streak, perhaps my phone got
caught up in their blocking pool of numbers?
Edit: added details.
I have had my Nexus 6 for 3 days and first installed my Straight Talk SIM yesterday. Everything worked fine for less than a day then I started getting MMS picture messages failing. Now I get no mobile data. I swapped my SIM with my wifes, also on straight talk and mine with hers and I get the same issue and mine works fine in her phone.
I have rebooted many times, I have checked my APN settings and even have tried alternatives.
I have done a few searches and see other have this or very similar issues but I have not found anything that fixes my issue.
I am running Pure Nexus with the stock kernel.

Need few more details. Who is your carrier? What ROM is on working phone?
I would clean flash latest factory image and see if that helps.

Straight Talk.
Pure Nexus ROM
I did a back up and tried flashing another ROM last night, CyanogenMod but I did something wrong and I ended up flashing Pure Nexus again and it restored everything from my backup (still learning I guess). But it is working fine, now that is, it was working fine before. The only thing that I thought may have caused an issues was I had Macrodroid setup to disable wifi radio when out of my homes cell tower's range. I used this all the time with my old phone and it helped a lot to save battery. But it didn't seem to work for some reason. So I turned Macrodroid off and it did help with my data issues then I even uninstalled it completely.
So bottom line, it's working now, but like I said in my original post, it was working for about 24 hours then I started having issues.

Straight Talk is not a carrier. They are reseller of services provided by Big Four.

I think all know this detail by now. The APN however is unique straight talk even though it is technically AT&T or (T-mobile)
I can't believe this is still an issue, totally unacceptable IMO
I've had this twice today. 100% stock, no root. Latest T-Mobile 5.1.1 with T-Mobile service. I'll take my phone out of my pocket and have a "!" next to the signal bar.
This even happens when in use. I had Spotify streaming music in my car when it cut out. When I got home, I checked the phone and again, "!" next to the signal bar.
I just did a clean flash and factory reset yesterday and set the phone up as a new device (no apps auto downloaded from previous setup) and I'm still getting this error whenever I leave the phone to sleep too long.
Same here !
Bought a N6 as my first Google phone, I thought I'd get the benefits of an always up to date phone, but instead I have to deal with that kind of issue
Hopefully that's a software issue and Google will provide us with a fix quickly... that's why I bought a Nexus !
(Orange 4G - France)
I had the same thing happen to me today. I left my phone in the car to go to a meeting, went to check it had no signal. Just turned on airplane mode for a few seconds then off, everything came back. I'm using the phone on ATT GoPhone network. I'm also using the nextgenphone apn instead of the phone apn. Maybe that's causing it.

Somehow during my last ROM update, I lost Mobile data capability. If I am connected to WIFI I can receive and send data. However if I am not near an AP for WIFI, date is not available. Before everyone bombards me with a lot of suggestions, here is what I have already done to try and resolve the problem:
I have verified that my APN is still set up correctly.
I have verified that Cellular Data is enabled and there is no data limit set.
I have verified that my IMEI has not changed for some weird reason and is still valid.
I have called my provider and verified everything is set up properly and they have not blocked me for any reason.
I rolled back to my previous setup using my nandroid backup from TWRP.
My thinking is that something has failed with the hardware but I don't know what it could be that wouldn't affect the phone, SMS or MMS because they all work well. The last thing I did before I noticed the problem was install the latest version of Ressurrection Remix and abyss-caf-tatan-20160820 kernel. But I can't say with certainty that the issue wasn't already there since I was at home and connected to WIFI for several days without leaving.
I wiped everything, did a data format and a full clean install, no help.
Any suggestions?
UPDATE: Well, as I suspected, there is no cure for my problem. It is apparently a hardware failure. On the upside, I still have two months left in my extended warranty coverage through Assurant, so they have refunded me my purchase price less the $25.00 deductible. One of those rare occasions where an extended warranty paid off.
So the refund will cover the bulk of what I just spent on the Moto G - Gen 4 phone.
I bought my Galaxy Note (AT&T version) not long after the model was introduced. I rooted it, installed TWRP, and finally started using custom ROMs (ParanoidAndroid and then CyanogenMod). It worked just fine for a long time.
Fast forward a few years and I began running into problems. Apps wouldn't work, others would lock up and crash. Fast forward a few more years to just a few months ago, and I ran into a bug where sometimes a crash would cause a strange "NO SIM CARD" error. I tried all of the usual troubleshooting steps and nothing worked until I started trying different CyanogenMod updates. It turned out that switching between different versions would sometimes fix the error until the next crash, then I would have to start jumping between ROM versions again. There seemed to be no pattern to it
About a week ago, I was trying to get my phone to work using the same highly convoluted workaround I'd been using for months, but none of the CM versions I had downloaded would do anything so I downloaded a slightly older version hoping to fix the problem in the same way again, but the older CM version got me locked into a boot loop.
So I (for the first time in years) went into TWRP, created a backup, and tried some of the other ROMs still on my uSD card. All of them boot looped. The only way to get any of them to run was to wipe my data, but I did not want to lose all of my texts, calls, and contacts so I quickly restored my backup. Finally I found Candy5 which (with some really horrible bugs) DID work without wiping my data, and could find all of my texts, but my contacts were all gone. Strangely, downloading the same dialer app from my old ROM and looking at the call history shows names next to the calls until the name disappears as though the contact were updating.
Sorry for the long post. I guess my questions are, in essence:
Is there a fix for the strange "NO SIM CARD" error? I thought it was hardware-dependent at first, but only updating software fixed it so I'm not sure.
Is there a way to recover my contacts? Even if the phone is beyond saving, I would really like to have my contact list back. Apparently they should be stored in a .db file somewhere, but I haven't been able to find it. Maybe switching ROMs deleted it.
