I am having audio problems. No matter what headset I use audio keeps cutting out. I have used Bluetooth and wired headset. I have also used different apps but it makes no difference. I have changed app settings in battery optimization and I am now at a loss of how to solve this.

I've had a simular issue with YouTube and Spotify.
I too though it was battery optimization but changing the settings hasn't helped.
This issue is fixed in android 9, just wait guys.
Is this with local music on the phone itself or always a streaming service? I.e. is it the audio cutting out, or the connection?

It makes no difference which source or app I use. It does it for Poweramp, play music, even moon reader. It does it over Bluetooth and wired headset. It interrupts the app sevice too making it so that I am unable to use the headset buttons to resume playing.

Use Deezer every day with Bose cans and don't have any issues like this?

I have a MOTOROKR S9 Stereo Bluetooth headset, and a G1 (Duh) with the latest Cyanogen Mod (4.1.999). I use the phone for my music as well as all the other smart phone stuff.
Now the issue I'm having is when I'm listen to music or a podcast with Google listen. the audio will cut out for a few seconds over an over and it's making it imposable to listen to music. Is there any way of fixing this issue just a side note I'm using the default music app.

What radio version do you have?
Raido-2.22.19.26i
so this is a bluetooth related or app related your taling about? can you listen to mp3 over bluetooth if its a bluetooth problem?
I can listen to music or whatever over blue tooth but it's cuting out all the time.
I believe this is a common problem for cyans latest rom, but im not sure. you can check on his google code page and see if anyone has a fix because i know a lot of people reported the problem ( i personally dont use bluetooth, so i cant really help there)
did you also try turning off wifi and seeing if it work? bluetooth is kinda like wifi with much less power. maybe turning off wifi could fix it
Is anyone else having audio issues with the Droid 4? mostly when I listen to music The vocals are so quiet that I can barely even distinguish them. I've tried 4 different sets of headphones and even replaced the phone once (it had other issues too).
so I'm just curious if others are having this issue or is it simply the audio playback on these phones is just poor.
I would even like suggestions of music apps or equalizers that can enhance vocal playback.

I'm very happy with the sound on my D4. I use Poweramp to listen to MP3s off my SD card, Tunein Pro for streaming local radio and some podcasts, and occasionally Slacker & Pandora for other streaming.
The Poweramp free app is a 15 day trial, the Full Version is $4.99 in the store. It has, in my non-audiophile opinion, a kick-ass equalizer, including about 16 presets. I have no problems hearing any audio unless the source was recorded with low levels.
That being said, I'm not a big fan of the D4's speaker for listening to music, but when I'm listening to music I'm either using headphones, external speakers or I'm plugged into my car's audio system, so it's not usually an issue.
I use Volume+. It is a paid app but worth it I think. I really does boost spound with headphones, speaker, bluetooth, and in call. To mod in call you have to be rooted.

That's for the options, I will try them out. I don't think the issue is quality since I use 320 kbps mp3 files as often as possible. I'm just trying to figure out this issue before I start flashing CM9.

I too have enjoyed the audio quality and volume from my droid 4. It could be the audio files you are listening too. If you ripped them from a cd, or downloaded them from somewhere sketch, then they could just be low in volume all together.
Well I considered that too. But I listened to the same song with poweramp, with Google music, on winamp and on Pandora. Same thing, I can barely hear the vocals. It sounds fine coming out of the back speaker, or if i switch power amps setting to mono. Maybe my phone just hates stereo.

Go to phone settings > sound > media audio effects. 3D audio or whatever is probably enabled by default. This drowns out some sounds in order to make a '3D' effect. Not good for music, in my opinion.

Thank you so much. That worked. I tweaked the audio effects and other settings to make it sound how I wanted it to. I can't thank you enough this was driving me insane. Now is time to start playing with roms.

I recently went with an HTC One and while I'm loving the device I've gotten quite spoiled with the car integration of the iphone. My phone is connected via bluetooth to my car audio system. Makes and receives calls fine. Plays out of the "Music" app fine.
But getting beyond that is incredibly annoying. The Music app just wants to play whenever i go to the bluetooth input and getting it to play something else is sometimes impossible. Starting spotify sometimes gets me spotify audio, and sometimes I get stuck in a loop where my car's audio is "paused" and spotify is playing on my phone. I tried to use my phone to stream slingbox audio over bluetooth today and simply couldn't accomplish this, every time i went to bluetooth the music app would start and the slingbox feed would get disconnected. Same behavior with WatchESPN.
On an iphone, the audio is all piped through the same thing and multiple audio feeds can't play, so this would be as simple to fix as double tapping the home screen and going to the airplay like icon and selecting the right output if for some reason it wasn't playing a particular app's audio over bluetooth.
Is there an app or any change I can make that will allow me to control which application is sending the audio over bluetooth? Can I disable the music app just taking over whenever I connect my car? Any other ideas I haven't thought of?
Are you using the car mode system? Go into the car app, go to settings (tap on the bottom middle), and make sure to turn off all the auto-music and such.
No, would I be able to control sling player in that mode?
Similar Issue! Bluetooth works only with Google Music App
I have a similar issue. Bluetooth pairs well with my stereo, and if I use the Google Music App all is great. I get great sound and track information. On all other apps (pandora, spotify, tunein Radio) the app shows that my music is playing but there is no sound coming from the car audio. The strange part is...when I play on Google music, then hit play on Spotify, spotify will play my track for a few seconds before the sound goes away. The track is still playing in the app though. Has anyone else encountered this?

Has definitely happened to me on more than one occasion. I've really only "fixed" it by restarting phone and car and hoping for the best.
iPhone market penetration and awareness has driven ICE integration to the exclusion of other brands.
Lack of similar joined up Android integration is the only thing stopping me going mechless in the car.
Until then, CD.

Yes I've encountered this in my 2011 Sienna. Yep I'm one of those spoiled by how well iOS handled audio through Bluetooth. I haven't tried Spotify, but I did try pandor and tunein and got the exact same results as you, with Google Music being the only player that works. I just transferred some music from my iTunes library and will try playing music through the native music app.
This won't be a dealbreaker for me but man do I miss how seamlessley iOS handled this. At least the steering wheel controls seem to work with Google Music, allowing me to jump to the next track.

So bluetooth streaming works fine for the native music player and I can go back and forth between Google Music and the native player and it streams fine via bluetooth. Still doesn't work with Pandora.

I am experiencing the same. Google music and google play stream perfectly. Maps(Navigation), Spotify, TED, Youtube have no speaker output, car speakers or otherwise.
In the same car I've previously been using a Galaxy S2 with all the above apps streaming via bluetooth just fine.
Anyone any ideas...?
Edit. I've tried everything but looks like this is a known issue with 4.1.2 jellybean. 4.2 update on its way within a month I hear.
Here's the workaround that I discovered in androidforums. I can confirm that it works with my AT&T HTC One and 2011 Sienna:
Launch pandora
Launch Google Play Music
Under Manage apps, select Google Play Music and stop it.
Sometimes Pandora starts streaming at this point.
If not, select Pandora from Running and stop everything under it.
Restart Pandora and it should stream now.
Just got an OTA update but no 4.2 yet. Bluetooth is still broken (unless you use Google music)

I have a 2013 Honda Pilot and whenever I stream music from my HTC One via Bluetooth, it will "pause" the music player. This happens all the time. It might go a few songs before it happens or will pause multiple times during a song.
I am able to connect to my car and use it to make and receive calls with no issues. When I attempt to stream music to the car it connects but the car will not let me switch to the phone audio to play the stream. I think it could be a bug with the ROM.
Anyone else able to use Bluetooth for music streaming in their car?
getting my One wednesday if my Best Buy rep was accurate, and BlueTooth music better work, that's what I always use for playback!
Using it with an HS3000 hard wired into my headunit for the audio profile while simultaneously connected to the headunit itself for the phone profile and its working fine. Perhaps theres a firmware update for the headunit in your car?
I'm not able to get it to see my Sony Automotive Bluetooth player but I haven't messed with it while not driving to really go in to it.

You are receiving the audio through the 3.5mm jack. My phone connects to the car and audio calls work great. I'm also having an issue with my TV. It shows connected but no audio plays, however when I press the volume on the phone it changes on the TV. I'm thinking something is missing or messed up in the ROM. I'm not sure if this is happening with other versions. It would be good to know.

Well your question seemed to be a question of bluetooth connectivity using the audio profile, so i gave you one example of when it does work for me. It doesn't matter that its outputting from the HS3000's 3.5mm in to a line in in my car, the audio gets to the dongle is the point i was getting at. Here are a few other things i have tested with it since i was curious as to whether this is a bug:
Moto S305, LG Tone, LG Tone+, Francois et Mimi Trois speaker, generic bt speaker i got as a door prize, and a samsung soundbar. Nobody can help you test whether there is a bug if there no information as to what you're trying to connect to other than "your car". As far as i know your car's bt protocols might be outdated and HTC left out some code for their BT drivers to work with older systems or if it is a genuine bug.
I appreciate your input, I thought you meant the cable was connected to your phone. It's wierd that I have a 2013 car and my EVO 4G LTE and an S4 both work but the new M8 doesn't.
I have no problem with streaming over BT to my car stereo or routing phone calls through it. I do have stuttering audio while streaming, however, which upsets me greatly.
I went back to the car and started messing around with settings and it now works. I had to disable and enable audio streaming. Audio is clean and crisp. Thanks for the feedback!

At times my audio will not come through. turning off BT in the car and turning it back on seems to allow the audio to work.....
I do however get the audio stuttering from time to time. Sounds like a CD skip almost. Yea I have been trying to figure out if there is a setting missing or something....most likely a bug though.....
Is the stuttering with all apps? I havent had much issue now but on my evolte i used ti get stutters whenever i transitioned towers or went screen off using gonemad and some flacs, poweramp seemed to be a bit better at it though.

Wow, not good. It's posts like these that help me to be more patient as I wait for my upgrade in July. Hopefully the little one like these are ironed out by that time.
I'm also getting random Bluetooth skips. Probably kernel related.

phone is not the issue here. Most smartphones have the capability to stream music over BT. The problem is usually when your car is setup to only handle calls over BT, nothing more. there's a workaround for this: You use Mono Bluetooth app in combination with your favorite music player app. It's not HD, but it works.
Code:

It seems my factory car stereo (which is only a year old) doesn't like the M8. I tried my 7 year old BT headphones and they streamed like champs. Stupid factory head units . I'm trying a couple of changes in audio_policy.conf to see if they make a difference. I don't think kernel is the issue here.

Does your radio have the ability to turn Bluetooth audio streaming on/off? That's what worked for me with my factory unit.

No.
Alright, fixed up my streaming issue. I'll explain later and post a fix. Busy right now.
So what I ended up doing was updating audio_policy.conf in /system/etc to allow lower bit rate audio over BT/A2DP. Currently the file only allows streaming at 48000, while some devices can only handle good ol' 44100. Adding in the additional value seems to have smoothed out my streaming for the most part.
I did notice some intermittent skipping when my device was in car mode and/or charging at first, but those issues seem to have sorted themselves out now. I would recommend deleting your device and re-pairing after making the change to ensure the connection is set properly.
I'll post up a flashable zip shortly to allow others to see if it helps/works for them.
EDIT: Zip attached. Sorry it took so long, Firefox was giving me problems.
@Captain_Throwback thanks bro, will give it a try. I've noticed it only to skip when using stock HTC media apps. Using Google Play music doesn't skip for me. May be a coincidence? Anyways, flashing your fix.

I have never been able to have steady audio via Bluetooth while using my phone. Example if I have Bluetooth streaming audio from Google Play All Access and try to reply to a text message the audio will start cutting out and skipping. Even if I try to use the Google Play app to change a song.
I know this is not an issue when using the headphone jack as that is how I normally have my phone plugged into the stereo in my truck.

Try re-pairing. I have this issue through a cheap bluetooth dongle. I generally reconnect and that will fix it (for the time being), but in some cases I've unpaired and re-paired and that has gotten it working. I don't have this problem in my car.
The car is question is the family SUV, it has an Alpine Receiver with Bluetooth built-in. I have not only repaired but noticed this issue with 4.2.2 and 4.4 and now 4.4.2. There has even been a full wipe and fresh start on the phone and the issue continues. I don't have another Bluetooth device to try with unfortunately.
