Hi folks. Is anyone here also facing this problem?
When you are wearing a polarised lenses sunglass , the screen gets very dark, and the only way to see the screen contents is to put the phone in a diagonal of your sunglasses or use it in portrait mode.
What are the technical reasons behind this issue?
I've found only this thread on Reddit about the issue, with no further clarifications.
Yeah, that's been the worst about this phone for me. I wonder if screen protectors really help with that.

Applying a tempered glass screen protector will help significantly with this.
if you looking for technical reasons. I will explain it by keeping it simple.
IPS screen (like MI A2). use white light pass through polarizing film to create color.
For sample. You need to display a red color. Polarizing film let red color pass through film but other colors won't pass.
and The color that creates by IPS screen method is polarized light.

and when polarized light pass through another polarizer (your glasses) that have a different angle of polarizer. it made some light not pass your glasses.
To solve this problem it has 2 ways.
1. rotate your phone.
2. make polarized light from your phone to unpolarized again. by Light scattering.
This method is more complex. but lucky you can make simple light scattering by apply screen protector.
but not all screen protector can light scattering. when you leave the protector under sunlight. you must see rainbow effect like this.

Thank you sir. You gave a great explanation.
Yea, based on others experiences inside this topic and your tip, i'll test out some glass shields and see if some of them could reduce the polarized effect.
Also, this rainbow effect you've described i can see on common glasses and car lights using my sunglasses
I thought that I wouldn't be able to use my phone with my glasses and have gotten used to it during the month that I had the phone. After applying a generic tempered glass, by accident I've noticed that I can see almost 100% of the brightness of the phone no matter the orientation so just apply a screen protector and you're good to go

That's true. My tempered glass protections from China got delivered. After installing it on my phone i was able to see the screen again with sunglasses
Pretty cheap and useful workaround.

I totally agree with you at least I know if I wanted to resell my tl I won't have to worry about describing a scratched screen.
i toyed with the idea of removing mine, but after seeing how the glass is hard to clean after I might leave it on.. stupidly the only scratches mine has endured so far are where i have failed to get the charger in the hole and it has slipped onto the screen. there may have been alcohol involved.

Won't the Xperia Z use Asahi Dragontrail glass?

I feel the same here. Too bad the screen doesn't have that oleophobic coating.

yes xperia Z use Dragontrail glass
I have the Xperia V, but I know that mine also has a screenprotector on it, but I cannot understand why anyone would remove it.
I have also added the Copter protection ontop.
It feels nice, allmost like glass. It also it sensitive like it would be without any protection.

R: Sony Xperia T have pre-Shatterproof screen protector (vid)
I removed the screen protector because it generates too much friction with my thumb. I had to be literally oil-fingered to use it comfortably.
The bare screen is better, letting the oil film form and my thumbs slip better.
Furthermore, no more dust collecting between it and the screen edge.
Having previously had iPhones, and knowing a friend with the Galaxy S2, I didn't even expect the Xperia T to have a screen protector, so I'd ordered my own before I even had the phone.
It wasn't until snooping around XDA forums I found out, after I'd already put one on.
Point being, even if the "stock" protector can scratch, it turns out I have a second protector on top anyway. There is no issues of sensitivity.
I removed mine
I think the shatter-proof thing is tacky, and I am very careful with my phones. I'd rather feel the glass that I paid all that money for! I don't mind breathing on my phone and rubbing it on my shirt every so often.
Take it off, it's nice!
I got my xperia Z yesterday and I noticed two darker shadow like spots on screen. I'm definitely taking it to the shop tomorrow but I want to know what is it. I have peeled a regular screen protector but i havent removed shatterproof film. I think it may be dirt under shatterproof film? Spots are most visible on grey and white and on black under an angle. They are barely visible on other colors, especially vivid. I took some photos of it but they are much more visible in reality than on photos. (I also altered brightness and contrast on one picture cause it's more visible)

I bought a phone two days ago and payed full price. No physical damage was done to it since then. I'm not even thinking about paying for anything. I'm going to shop today cause I have a waranty but I'm not sure I will accept display replacement cause I doubt it will still remain waterproof. I just want to know whats going on.

Just returned my SGS5 due to an air bubble or something under the front panel.
I've seen a lot of black SGS5 with this issue on one of the corners or around the home button. It is visible with sunlight or under a lamp. You need to pass your fingers around the front panel and then they will appear.
Check these pictures I took to see what I mean:

On the white model it can't be seen. Only on black ones.
Check to see if you have it.
Mines fine....had it since release
That happened to my friend but only after he dropped it, luckily on the carpet. Very cheap work from Samsung on a flag ship.
And it's really annoying... any way to fix it?
I had that develop - had the phone since launch day and the bubble developed 2 weeks ago. I took it into Samsung repair Centre and they replaced the screen within the day.

Disappointing to see such quality issues on their flagship.
Checked mine, looking fine so far, have it since launch.
It's mostly noticeable on the black model and in daylight at certain angles.
I've also seen it around the home button.
I've checked several black ones with this issue on stores.
None of them have the tempered glass screen protectors do they? I would hate to see everyone freaking out because their screen protector isn't lined up exactly how it should and creating the same problem.
I can speak from experience. Not that I thought my screen was messed up, but from how there is 0% tolerance with some of the tempered glass screen protectors and they need to be lined up perfectly or else around the corners they will have air bubbles exactly as everyone here shows.

Yes. Mine too, but the glass protection has been changed from 2 monhs ago. There is no scratch on it and I don't use cover
It's a really weird issue.
A guy above said he's was fine and the bubble appeared 2 weeks ago.
Is this something that can appear at a later time?
I think this is due to the waterproof protection.
..
Is it normal to have lines on back and home capacitive touch buttons? I think the glass has a line design to it?
yes. notice the lines all over the front face of the phone? the buttons are under that.
It's a design feature. It's like Marmite (if you don't know what that is... YouTube it) you either love it or hate it. I find it estheticly pleasing.
I've noticed the stripes and I personally don't like it. It looks broken/shonkey to me. Other than that the handset is great.
I'm gonna put myself down for the hate side on this one. The moment I switched my phone on I saw the lines over the notification LED. What was samsung thinking?
I love them, they look... like pixel art.
Hate the lines. Schoolboy error imo. Worst is the lines over led notification
Hate the lines.
I think the lines give it a little extra flavor.
Sent from my Galaxy Note4
Glad to know its a feature and not a flaw. I don't care what it looks like
there are lines??? although I don't have the capacitive buttons light up at all
Anyone know what the white marks are on the top and bottom of the metal frame?
I believe they are to do with antenna reception
They may also be to assist in ease of production. It's gotta be difficult to put a solid rectangular piece of metal around the edge of a phone.

Yup, those are the "holes" for the antennas.
To the OP: it's the textured painting behind the front protective glass, it is what it is.

The lines are not visible on the white one....perhaps not too surprising but thought I should mention it in case anyone fancies a colour swap at their store!

Nope.
I also don't like the lines but it it's the only thing I've had to complain about. Anyway I spend all my time looking at the gorgeous screen.

Holy **** I dont care. I never really see the lights on the capbuttons, nor the notification light. I see the light distantly if something happened, and the capbuttons for a few seconds, and on the white version I honestly dont even think about the lines.
What I DO think about is a mm or less of light from the cap backbutton kind of bleeding into the edge of the screen above it, as if it wasnt sealed properly. But thats only noticeable in a dark room, and not really a big deal either... But thats far more annoying.
Hi, I've recently found out about skins - an interesting alternative for cases. To be honest, I couldn't find any good case for this phone. Now I'm using Nilikin Case - it's slim, looking pretty good, but has cracks in few places already. I guess it doesn't give me any protection anyway in case of hitting the floor. But naked phone is way to slippery (especially the glass on the back). So why not trying skin instead? I had hard time to find something, which has (potentially) good quality. I had to find international (on eBay), because there was almost nothing in my country to buy (only printed crap with very bad reviews).
So I found this:
http://www.ebay.com/itm/3D-Carbon-S...sh=item419deb1600:g:ie8AAOSwYHxWFs20#shpCntId
So, should I give it a try?
I'd vote for: yes! Looks definitely interesting, please share some pictures if you do.
Ordered Brushed 3D: Black. We'll see how it performs.
Just got my skin today! I didn't expect it so early. Anyway it's not easy task to put this skin (and any other as well i guess). I left my metal bumper, because it love how it's looking. So only top and back skin are on. Gonna post some photos maybe tomorrow

Thanks for the pics! Do you like it? Is the material nice to touch?
Yeah I like it. Material is nice to touch and looks durable. But who knows how really tough it is, we'll see in few weeks. One downside is front skin covers notification led! Because of that it's very dim.
After a week of usage I have to say it got some scratches on back (several). Fortunately there aren't that much visible.

Well, a lot of scratches, but they aren't that visible on black texture. However I've taken off front skin, because when phone was heating up (while playing some games) sticky glue was going from it. Fall damage? Well - it doesn't give you any protection from falling on the ground and any other skin won't give you any. For me it's great cover for back glass, because glass has a lot of fingerprints and is very slippery.
i prefer the case than the skin. the skins don't give much protection already the both side of my phone got cracked
