960f/ds exynos can I flash any usa firmware? - Samsung Galaxy Note 9 Questions & Answers

Hi people I've recently purchased an unlocked international 960f/ds which happens to be from Singapore and using it here in the US. Now I got few issues with it. When i type in numbers, it does not show with hyphens aka dash. I got like, for example, 2032038080 instead of 203-203-8080 and it doesnt show what town the calling number is from. It just shows what state that number is from, which is really annoying lol. Also, there is no built-in voicemail in the phone app. Because of that, i had to install a carrier voicemail app from playstore.
Does it have anything to do with the current firmware? If so, can i fix or flash anything to get it working? if u are aware of these issues or have already solved plz let me know.

Nope u can't mate.

no u cannot flash US firmware on 960f/ds. Because the US variant is powered by snapdragon and the model which u have is powered by exynos. flashing US firmware on ur device will fry ur motherboard.
just root ur phone and change ur CSC.
read this for changing CSC.

@tycoon78[stoner]
In the same boat I have a n960-F using it in Canada, phone works amazing but I would like to get WifiCalling VoLTE etc. From what I've read I need to flash a local CSC
I use this Dual Sim device for work, and can't have Knox tripped, will flashing a new CSC trip knox?
A couple other questions:
Will this device ever receive OTA updates?
Am I better off selling my n960-F and purchasing a n9600 (dual sim - snapdragon)
Will I be stuck on Oreo with this phone?
Thanks in advance for your help!

I can see you've asked this a few times before, it might be worth creating a new thread and asking your question, instead of bumping old threads up.
I can't answer all of your questions but I can answer;
will flashing a new CSC trip knox? No - Unless you go to Dev options and enable OWM unlocking, you can't trip Knox.
Will this device ever receive OTA updates? Yes - as the device is still effectively stock, running stock software, you should get updates depending on what CSC you have.
Will I be stuck on Oreo with this phone? No - The SM-N960F has received Pie in multiple locations now and you can just flash it with Odin.
Will you get VoLTE ect working in Canada? According to the brief research I've done, no, you need a SM-N960W for that. I checked this and this thread.

Desperately Need Help - Samsung SM-N960F/DS + T-mobile PUK and other issues.....

Hi. I am a complete noob when it comes to rooting Android.
**************************UPDATE************************************************
THIS ISSUE HAS BEEN SOLVED. PLEASE SCROLL TO POST #89 ON PAGE 9 TO SEE THE SOLUTION.
https://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=77950935&postcount=89
***************************************************************************************************
I bought an *unlocked* Samsung Note 9 N960F/DS (Exynos 9810) international phone from a seller on ebay brand new and sealed. Received the phone yesterday (10/19/2018) and popped my working existing sim card from my iphone 6 with T-mobile into the new phone and it *worked*.........except no wifi calling.
Since my house has terrible reception I really do need wifi calling in order to receive calls (I use Skype for outbound). I decided to root and install Detonator (tekhd) even though I've never done this before. Somewhere along the line I messed up and installed the latest LUX ROM because I misred Tekhd's guide on Detonator (my fault).
Here's where I stand now: I found a stock ROM for this model (N960F/DS) and reinstalled it using Odin3 v3.13.1.
After a successful flash when I insert my working T-mobile sim I get "SIM network PIN blocked. Enter SIM network PUK."
Here the Service Provider SW shows XEU/XEU,XEU/MYM
I get the *same* message when I insert a spare T-mobile sim I happened to have that was confirmed as available with T-mobile customer service. If I take the working sim out and put it back into the other phone it works without a problem. I think that rules out the sim cards having issues.
Earlier when I had the phone rooted and Detonator installed (and working), I got a different message when I inserted the SIM:
Network Lock: This device can be remotely unlocked if eligible.
Please use the "Device Unlock" application to unlock the device.
Make sure the device has an internet connectivity to use the "Device Unlock application".
Here the Service Provider SW showed TMB/TMB/MYM.
I tried looking for a T-mobile Unlock App apk to download but could not find a recent one. I would get a "Device not supported" error. It seems T-mobile has taken it off the Playstore.
Now, I can't install a stock USA ROM from T-mobile because those ROMS are only for the Snapdragon versions and I have the Exynos chip. I was given two unlock codes over the phone with T-mobile customer service to try and unlock the Pin lock but they both did not work.
Do you think an unlock service will be able to provide me with a valid "Sim Network PUK" code? I'm happy to pay for the service if I can just get the damn phone working. I've spent almost $770 on this phone and in hindsight should just have gotten the T-mobile branded phone for $100 more. I'm really at a loss as to what I can do to rectify this situation.
Also in hindsight I should have done more research before purchasing the phone and also should have backed up my partition in TWRP........You live and you learn.
The irony here is that I had an unlocked phone.....and now it has somehow gotten locked.........by the carrier whose SIM card is working perfectly fine......in a different phone. The device was paid in full btw.
Any help is greatly appreciated. Thank you in advance.

this is a first. I always though once the region lock was lifted it couldn't be relocked( to me it seems to be a region lock issue, which if it is you need to make a 5 min call on region soil... good luck)
anyways check on your box there is a sticker with model and serial . find what carrier or region its from and grab that firmware and flash it. might want to factory wipe everything (including cache) in the recovery before booting it up indownlaod mode to do Odin flash.
also remove sim before wiping/ flashing, let it boot and do the initial setup then insert sim.

I did wipe and reinstall the stock rom with the sim removed. The strange thing is..........I get the same message if I insert an old, blank, unused t-mobile sim into the device. Plus the working sim works fine in my old phone. So how could it be that the sim is locked?
There is nothing on the box that says anything about a carrier. This was advertised and sold as a factory unlocked phone which by all indications it does seem to be. The only thing on the box that says anything about country is that it was manufactured in vietnam.

Yes there are stickers. But it is not associated with a carrier, specific region, or country. I just see IMEI info on the sticker on the back of the phone and S/N.

https://samsung-firmware.org/model/SM-N960F/region/MYM/
did you flash one of these?
these should be the original firmware U1 and the lates U2 which if you flash wint be able to downgrade bootloader but shouldn't be causing rhe sim lock issue.
flash U1 first and see if it fixes your issue. then try the October U2 just for fun
you can also download it using samfirm tool
enter 960F and MYM in settings it should also be a faster download then the web links

ok so it's too late for U1 . ure phone is already on U2 latest bootloader. so flash the October build
but be sure to wipe all with no sim before flashing
and in Odin fill in all slots and for csc use CSC but not HOME csc file.
good luck

yeah might as well use tarp. and erase all. but before, did you sift through internal s or ext s for an efs backup that detonator might have made automatically?
check for a folder called .backup and or for a file like:
efs_backup.img.gz
efs_backup.img
or anything similar

No, but I did download Dr. Ketan's tool to make an efs backup. But that was way later in the process....so it wasn't the original efs directory......It was after I flashed my current "stock" rom. I'm going to try and find another site to download since that one will take 2 days on slow speed......
Btw what does the ZBD mean? MYM I figured is Myanmar......

I bought SM-N950F. it came with N950FXXS5CRJ1 firmware.

is there way to downgrade bootloader ?

To my knowledge you can't downgrade the bootloader. What carrier/country? You may just need to update APN settings or something like that. Wifi calling may depend on CSC file too (or require a call to your carrier in some cases)...
USA--> Tmobile.
but why doesn't wifi calling feature does not appear anywhere

No! Sorry!
You can try another firmware with N950FXX"s5" or "u5"C***
But you can't go back to N950FXX"s/u 4, 3, 2, 1"*****
If your rooted you can just flash a csc zip file containing your cell providers csc. You can find it by searching xda.
But you'll lose Samsung pay, secure folder for good no getting them back without changing motherboard.
thanks

For USA tmobile is TMB but you will not find that for your phone model SM-N950F. It's only for SM-N950U or U1.
Only way is to root your device and flash the zip file containing the TMB csc .

You can try csc detonator maybe. As far as i know tmobile doesnt allow phones volte and wifi calling if you dont buy from them yet i dont have many knowlagde on usa models and tmobile but you can take a look at csc detonator or tmobile csc threads
I am experiencing a similar situation, but noticed that the new bootloader after u5 is "S5"? But are both compatible between each other, I don't think they are.

Flashing SM-N960W Canadian firmware on a SM-N960FD UAE phone for samsung pay?

Hi,
I recently bought a Note 9 (SM-N960FD) from Duabi and went back to Canada. Now Samsung Pay is not working here at all. It gives me an error message that it is unable to connect to server.
I have been looking for solutions around for the past 2 days with no luck.
What I reached is that I have to change the CSC of my phone (which seems to be a much more complicated process than just flashing a firmware with ODIN). And some suggested that this will be of no use as my phone is exynos and Samsung Pass will not work in Canada unless it is a Snapdragon phone!!
Also the model is different here in Canada. It is SM-960W (with XAC as the unlocked version).
What do I do? I want samsung pay to work on my phone. Shall I change the CSC and flash the Canadian firmware? Is it Okay to do that with the Canadian firmware designed for a different model (960W and not the 960FD)
Please advice.
Thanks
sammobile firmware to change csc
hello,
I was in a similar case when i bought my note 9. It was from Taiwan and I am from Spain.
I flashed the spain firmware from sammobile
https://www.sammobile.com/firmwares/recent/
and now my Samsung pay and other apps work natively. I was told by Samsung Taiwan that flashing other csc can cause incompatibility, so take that in mind because although it may not seem real, the different versions of smartphones have different hardware.
Research a little bit from the forums.
I had the sm-n960f/ds and i installed the software from the sm-n960f from Spain.
Also, install cpu-z so that you know well what chip is installed inside and more info that could help you to fix this issue.
This is only informative, I don't take any responsibility of any damage.

unfortunately you cannot flash different model firmware on different chip.
so ure stuck. the only way id see ure spay working again might be using a vpn and choosing one of the region phone is from. but id doubt this would be a good long term solution. but as a proof of concept, it might be nice to try.

Changing CSC to enable VoLTE and VoWIFI

Hi there,
I'm about to order a Galaxy S10 directly from Samsung since they are way cheaper than what my carrier sell them. But, when I do my carrier tells me that VoLTE and VoWIFI will not work on Android phone bought from other than the one they sell...
I've read a little bit and it seems that I'd have to change the CSC of the phone, I've chatted with samkey about the particular model and it's not supported, because of bit 4 or something like that. Anyways, I've downloaded samfirm and found the firmware for my provider "VTR" but it seems that all firmwares from any provider in Canada share the same thing because what is getting downloaded is a "VLS" and the CSC one is "OYV"

I need advise to modify the firmware or options in my new phone to make it look like it's coming from my provider (Videotron) and when I insert the SIM (with NFC+VoLTE) in it I have a chance that the option will be available.
I'm an IT Specialist, I've flashed my old S7 with those files before with no luck. It's the same story with the S7, bought from Samsung, initialized with an other provider SIM though. Then flashed the phone with my provider CSC got a proper SIM card and I had them enable VoLTE on my line, but the option never showed up. I'd like to be able to enable it on my new phone, that's why I'm doing research before getting my hands on it.
Can't you just download the video tron firmware and flash it to the phone with Odin?

I sure can, just wondering if it's gonna work since last time I did that on my S7 it didn't work.
I downloaded the firmware using SamFirm v0.5.0 for 2 providers, VTR (Videotron) and RWC (Rogers) two very different providers and I compared the two CSC files using sha256 and they are both identical (I didn't test the big 5G files though, but they have the same exact file size). So I'm wondering if I'm even downloading the right thing now. It's probably multi CSC. Then does the stock Canadian Samsung firmware the same as the one I'm downloading?
It should tell you on sam firm what firmware you need to download or if you're running the current stock firmware, then just look in settings to see what base band you're on and go from there. I wouldn't flash rogers if you have another carrier, that may cause some issues.

Thanks I'll look into it a little more when I actually receive the new phone from Samsung. I wasn't going to flash a Rogers firmware, I downloaded it to do a compare and check to see if they actually are identical to VTR ones and they seem to be identical, at least the CSC files are.
many folks have found that buying direct from samsung doesn't guarantee the phone will work.
several on xfinity mobile found out the hard way.

S20 FE 5G csc change

I am pretty new to Samsung's and their csc system.
I have an Australian SN-G781B with OPS csc (Australian carrier)
Just wondering if its possible to change csc to XSA (generic Australian region) to ensure I get more timely updates that won't require carrier testing bs.

I am pretty new to Samsung's and their csc system.
I have an Australian SN-G781B with OPS csc (Australian carrier)

flashing a CSC is super easy. put your phone in DL mode, fire up Odin, load the file and flash the HOME_CSC, not the CSC. HOME_CSC will allow you to flash firmware without factory resetting it. sammobile.com/firmwares to get the FW you need and be sure to use either SamFirm or.... god dangit... i cant ever remember the other programs name. Anyways, SamFirm allows you download the several GB file literally 5x faster and its a 100% trusted .exe. Anyways, get the U1 version of the firmware and flash it, boom... unlocked phone. Might need patched Odin to get around the phones security that usually blocks firmware flashes like these
The question would be if samkey software supports changing of S20 FE 5G's CSC to other regions (e.g. THL for call recording)
If someone finds a CSC setting, flash-able to the US unlocked S20 FE, which enables eSIM and call recording, yet doesn't impact the available 3G/4G/5G bands, please share the info. Thanks.
I just did a successful CSC change on my USA Unlocked S20 FE 5G without wiping the phone, maybe the info can help you. See my new thread: https://forum.xda-developers.com/galaxy-s20-fe/help/successfully-forced-october-update-t4183325
However, you may need to do your own research on the proper CSC to use in your region. I simply wanted to swap my CSC to XAA so I could force an update is all.
Dont bother as I have xsa and have not received any updates yet.

@InfX
I'm looking to also enable eSIM on my S20 FE. Did you have any luck?

I don't have the device (yet?), sill trying to decide if i want to pull the trigger on it, or get Pixel 5 instead. The eSIM is one heck of a convenience feature when traveling, and i'd really want to know if i can get it working BEFORE actually paying for the device. Right now, sadly, i assume a "no" as an answer on that

Correct, I have the US unlocked version and trying to activate an eSIM from US Mobile for a trip to Asia soon. So far, no luck. For whatever reason, Samsung is disabling this feature in the US for now....

Google it on the original S20 series, and you'll see the same story. For example, here - US Unlocked Version ESIM Update? - Samsung Community - 1147639. Guess we can spell the "for now" in the quote above as "for good".
