Interesting...are you on the leaked Pie builds? Or are you still on official Oreo?
Well, nevermind. I'm on the official Oreo and I just got through same pop-up. That sucks.
a bit more info
https://www.sammobile.com/2018/11/15/android-pie-time-limit-galaxy-free-themes
Hopefully some developer will hack the whole theme-engine; Samsung copied this system from Xiaomi, the MIUI-shop works exactly the same, and you can download themes elsewhere, then apply them on your own device (and it's not illegal!). Besides, there are a lot of great free MIUI-themes available for years now.
Major bummer for some.

Thanks for the link, however, that was no more info at all. LOL. Just them repeating what we said, then guessing why Samsung is doing it, then admitting they don't really know either.
It seems this has taken everyone by surprise and Samsung has offered no explanation at all.
I just read this on some other site and it's retarded, some themes are meant to be released for free. I could get with getting a notification for making a donation towards the developer but forcing this on people seems rather dumb.
Just another reason to root our devices!
Sent from my SM-N960F using Tapatalk
My guess is the low quality themes were negatively impacting performance. If you notice reputable themes are under 10 MB. Poorly made themes are much larger and run terribly. I prefer choice over the lack thereof but I've seen light and dark themes with various color options in the previews of Pie.
Still, I'm not a fan of the dead spaces and excess use of bubbles in Pie but I'll reserve judgment for the final product.

That's not just the reason to root... I'm using 2 SIM card and an SD card simultaneously using a SIM-extender, Samsung blocked this, you need root & a custom ROM for this.

Yes, but the phone would have been way more expensive. And that's also not the only reason for me to root, there are several other reasons like using Titanium Backup, making a complete NAND-backup using TWRP, using Xposed etc.

That makes sense. Wish we could root without losing some of the core features though. I have a Snapdragon, so I don't have to worry about it. XD
So....theme expires, apply another one, go back to the one we want to use? I switch themes ever couple days so for me it's not a bahumbug. I haven't paid for any yet, I just stick to the free ones. That $2.50 is hard to swallow for shared icons and wallpaper with different palette. This is not to knock the actual creates here and some on there, but I've seen a lot of them release different colour variants for the same price and all that was changed was the colour. Wtf?!

Will Swift installer even work on Android Pie? I remember the articles back when Android P was in beta that Substratum theming wouldn't be possible.

This is proof that you will need to custom ROM this phone if you want to regain all that internal space that was lost.
I think that Samsung software engineers need to slim things up on their Touchwiz.
Makes me wonder how large the Note 4 software is going to be.

If you are on Verizon or AT&T you can't do squat with it. Perhaps the GS4 is the way to go or something else. I guess March 25th is worth waiting for.
With Knox pre-installed, it won't be possible to customize it...

Couldn't care less about bloat if the batterylife is good. Already suffered badly with Nexus. Pathetic batterylife (putting it mildy). What's the use of less-bloat if the batterylife is so bad?
BTW, I consider G+ integration as the biggest bloat in Android.
This is no different from what's been done before by Samsung and other companies with their devices. Samsung at least gives external storage options still.
System uses 5.28GB.
So you'll have 10+ for the user.
As you can see from the screenshot it is loaded with trailers and demos.

Im with you. I love my nexus 5 to death, it's so fast and fluid. I even put purity and franco for the best battery/performance you can get from it. But still, battery life is not that good. I can get max 5 sot without playing games. And thats not enough. I cant have a peace of mind using a device that doesnt have a removable battery. But with my s4 and its battery kit, it's a pleasure to use. I can have 50% of juice left and have the battery kit 100% stand by waiting to be put. With this infinity battery life, i can have a peace of mind using my phone, even for playing emulators.

Yeah until the carriers (well the ones here in the US at least) get their hands on it & add their useless bloatware on top of Touchwiz, which brings me to my 2nd rant - Samsung or any other OEM has no business even offering up 16gb models these days. The standard should be 32gb at least & especially since Google wants to kill SD card access.

I agree about the 16gb part, but at most carrier bloatware will add maybe 512mb-2014mb. Which the major carriers let you delete some of the crap you don't want no problem.

while there are bug fixes, i highly doubt they'll patch the particular exploit that allows us to root, and if they do, Chainfire will find another exploit in a matter of days, specially since the kernel source is available, so you'll always be able to root, don't worry about that.
I took a plunge and I managed to root the device with ChainFire. Now to wait for the GS5 Playstore edition
I wonder if all of those S5 models will make the porting of the playstore version harder?
Also, what's up with all those versions? Are they baseband-related only (aside from the ones with different processors)?

Did you try Adblock Fast that is build into Samsung 4.0? Download from App store and then manually setup using instructions.
I'm using it on my S7 with zero issues and no ads. Of course, limited to Samsung browser.
I'm using adguard which sets up personal VPN on phone to block ads. Seems to work for all apps but does hit battery life a bit. Worth it for me.

Bootloaders are locked. Flash secured and all. All us carriers, not the exynos, but all us snapdragons, including tmobile. We are on twitter and got a response from John Legere who claims to be working on a potential solution to at least getting tmobiles unlocked. I'm sure something will come up eventually. Us folks on ATT are used to being screwed with the locked bootloaders. Think it might be new for T-Mobile users though. It might take a little longer, but ATT Samsung devices typically get root after some point.
I've had it since launch, my Nexus 6 basically died. I miss the debloating root allows, like how I'm forced to have the Directv app when I don't have any interest in having Directv. I do like it though it's a nice phone. If we can get root to remove the bloatware I'm for that otherwise I'll live with it for a year until something better drops.

VPNs like Adguard don't "eat" battery. What your seeing is that the system attributes all battery used by apps that access the internet to the VPN.

Seems like Pre-Lollipop builds were always hacked for root. Also, at least on my S5 G900A, Pre-rooted 5.0 was able to be flashed as long as the BL was kept OA1 (KK 4.4.4). But if you took the OTA to 5.0, no root ever! Also they totally locked it down with 5.1. FU ATT!!!!:silly:
But they sure did get into that S6 pretty fast, didn't they? Go figure.
I applied to this Samsung Mobile Insights program. Might get a free G935A or G930A if accepted into it. I do not know how I will live without root, but at least it has a sdcard. I do not have a good feeling about a battery that does not come out though...
It's been a fun run guys-- with bootloader v5 it looks like flashing these files back and forth is potentially going to cause issues and soft bricks.
I no longer have the phone so for now it's coming down.
Love and kisses, I supported and hosted these files for you guys from. Nov 17, 2016 to Feb 21, 2018 and with the boot loader change and me no longer owning the phone it's time to sail into the sunlight.

I think this is assumed, but once the U version is flashed the upgrade path for device software should follow Samsung's releases and not the carrier specific releases, correct? No more waiting for the carrier to delay release adding their own software and removing features down the line?

This version is non-branded and works with this rom, I didn't include the Prince version as there is no reason in this workflow for a modded/tagged non-official version of anything. If anybody has any issues in a specific use case I will add a secondary option. They should not though as the rom is sha signed appropriately. I don't want to get too far off topic but if Odin fails it's usually because the sha isn't passing what Odin is looking for. I'm not seeking to provide anything other than a vanilla supported flow to make it clean and clear. I posted this thread elsewhere and it's already had adopters testing without issue.

Exactly. And the ones thinking they NEED IT NOW aren't reading all the things. Samsung Nougat still has all sorts of animation and interface glitches. It's a beta with plenty of things left unshined and I'm not about to post that here and have a million 'X isn't as wide as X and when i hit X it doesn't Y'
The good news is in the Goodlock comment section Samsung is saying they won't support Goodlock Nougat until the Galaxy S8 which leaves me with a smile. The point of Goodlock is to be more stock like and since they will officially support Nougat with the S8 then we'll likely see all the stock Nougat layout that Goodlock tries to mimic. Now that Nougat is basically setup like Goodlock with a quick toggle row i see no reason for them to mutate it. So Goodlock should be the bees knees. (hopes and dreams, with a reasonable basis) ; p

All good, i don't want this thread to be filled with these types of things. Stay on topic please.
That said- there are things i know as fact are unfinished in the beta and the end of life on that beta is not going to work for all parties. When they stop updating it there will be yet another factory reset in line for those users. This thread is obviously not a nougat thread, i posted this for people that want something stable that will be updated with non-beta code when it comes available. There is always something out there for people that want to run beta non final software on their phones. That is not what this thread is about.
1. Notifications are not full screen width, it may not bother you but there are bug reports already submitted for this. (I follow the beta)
2. The close all button on the quick switch is white which is just odd and unfinished.
3. For a good amount of people there are animation glitches. I mod a reddit thread filled with 200+ comments about all the pros/cons.
Lastly, I do NOT want this thread to have this kind of back and forth. It serves a purpose, i'm not hosting this on GDrive or Dropbox i'm incurring some cost to put this up for people and in return all i ask is stay on topic and if something else is working for you then good. Keep on keeping on.

I didn't buy phone outright within one hour of taking it home I was boot loader unlocked , sim unlocked and rooted. No need to call t mobile for anything. I only booted the stock operating system once. Which was only because it was required step in the process. They asked me for help in setting up my phone. I sure if you can remove Google play services and seemed to think the phone wouldn't work without Google play services.
I get the desire for RCS,but it's barely used still... I could see it mattering in the future, but as of right now, meh... I got mine unlocked by sweet talking a rep, but MSM tool is great too! As much as I love the Google feed, I simply have a shortcut for it on my home screen so I can quickly go to it if needed... Honestly, the international variant works so much better for me! Sadly, TMO really restricts software updates for so many Android manufacturers, even aside from OnePlus. By the time TMO approve a software update, new patches and updates have already released on the mainstream side.
Wow...figured someone would have mentioned it by now...but anyway. Nova Launcher has a Google Feed plugin where you can just swipe right and you have the Discover feed. No root required.
As for RCS...not that big of a deal for me. I'm using International on my TMO 6T because I got tired of the SLOWWW updates.
I'm confident the T-mobile techs have noticed your demands here on XDA. They are surely working on your requests.
Stand by.

Yeah, I know about the alternatives but they are just not the same as having a dedicated stock launcher with the feed built in. It just seems cleaner to me.
Right now though, I do admit I cant use RCS because no one I know has it. So I went to Beta 9 and am using CPL with the plug in.
I am waiting on my token so I can get off this slow update T-Mobile schedule. I finally got tired of waiting so I called them up and told them I need sim unlock they did it even without phone payoff.

What does sim unlock mean in terms of updates? I am not sure if my sim is locked or not no proper method of testing but omni or carbon ROMs update just fine without official sim unlock. I only used the stock ROM long enough to boot the thing to fastboot to flash the international ROM. I did this inside the t mobile store while they processed the return of my wife's iPhone ten pro or what ever it was. They didn't seem to mind. Odd they let me do it with out the phone being processed yet. Mine was rooted and boot loader unlocked before I got my receipt. Their system was down for processing returns so I was there about an hour.

I find that strange with a locked bootloader. I guess you had a PC with you for all that or did the store let you use theirs. Any how good for you.

Yeah but I would think that the advantages of having newer/faster updates outweigh having to use another launcher or having RCS. Honestly, the OnePlus Launcher leaves a lot to be desired. I got rid of it almost immediately after I got the phone after I saw its huge lack of customization. Used Nova Launcher for years and love it. I won't use these betas though. I use my phone all day and just don't wanna run into annoying bugs lol. Hopefully we get a big new stable update soon.
RCS isnt something I really *NEED*. I can see when a message was delivered...but I'm sure we'll get RCS eventually.

Yeah, I can understand where you are coming from. However I would prefer the T-Mobile software. Each person has there own prerogative. Mine is T-Mo.
