Dear ALL,
could someone of you tell me about Nokia 8 SMS ringtone customization ? (single contact customization)
Regards
Alberto
Go to your contact in messages. Select first item like Information from upper right drop down menu (three dots).
Then notifications and here you can set a special notification for a single contact.

First, I have searched these forums using both Google and its own search engine in an effort to answer my own question. I came across a good number of posts that raised the same question but did not have an offered solution. If I have missed the correct post, please link it.
The question is simply "how do I eliminate the "Notification" bubble that pops up and reminds me that I have unread e-mail AND the "Notification" tab at the bottom of the screen that has to be dismissed before my standard soft-key "Calendar" reappears?"
I have a program that tells me how many unread e-mails I have; I do not need another one. I want the phone to play a sound (if desired) on a incoming e-mail and then just give me the icon that shows the number of unread e-mails. I do not want to see the "Notification" bubble pop up at the bottom of my screen or the remaining/returning "Notification" soft-key on the bottom bar.
I have already gone into the Settings > Sounds & Notifications > Notifications and turned everything off related to e-mail. I have even tried editing the registry, as suggested in another post such as:
______
"...... found this on another site. It may help you..
1. Install a registry editor like Resco File Explorer’s add-on registry editor or PHM registry editor.
2. Open HKEY_CURRENT_USER
3. Tap control panel>notifications
4. Tap default
5. Tap options
6. Choose what value will be applicable to you and replace the default number with it (for XDA Atom, the number was 13, I replaced it with 8 to suit my preference):
0 show icon
1 show icon and play notification sound
2 show icon and vibration
3 show icon and vibration and play notification sound
4 same as 0
5 same as 1
6 same as 3
7 same as 3
8 show icon and notification bubble
9 show icon and play notification sound and show notification bubble
10 show icon and notification bubble and vibration
7. If you want to configure how long the notification bubble will stay on the screen, tap on duration instead of options. Change the number there into the number of seconds you want the notification bubble to stay up."

The foregoing does not work for me - or I may be doing something wrong. Any help would be appreciated.
I have had the same problem no matter what ROM I use. Cannot figure out how to turn off email notification.
How about trying:
Settings
Personal
Sounds & Notifications
Notifications
Messaging: New E-mail Message
& uncheck Display Message on screen.
Thanks GSLEON3 for the suggestion....but as stated in paragragh 4 of my post, I have already tried that and I still get the nuisiance notification. I have also tried editing a few of the suggested registry values (with no luck obviously) and, according to my search of the forums, this is not the first time the question has been asked.
I am confident one of the brainy ROM modders has the answer.......maybe?
it can't be done, the only thing that you can get rid of is the message automatically popping up, which is what the settings change refered to in paragraph 4 does. You will always get the ntoification icon and on the left soft key. Someone would have to hack the resources that tie into tmail.exe (tmail.exe is the app that the mail client uses).

Thanks. Now I can quit worrying about trying to fix it. It is, however, a nuisance.

OK This is way over my pay grade, so who wants a PayPal donation?
I found a way, sort of
Had the same problem until I found this post

Disable SMS received notification
The following setting disable SMS notification and sms recieved icon on screen
HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Inbox\Settings\SMSAvailable = 0
To enable again
HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Inbox\Settings\SMSAvailable = 1
The upside is that it gets rid of the bubble, the downside is that is disables all native notification for SMS. I'm using PocketCM, so I still get visual notification, but no sound or vibration.
I have come accross that post as well...unfortunately, it only addresses the issue of how to disable the SMS notification (which other registry tweak apps do as well). I am more interested in disabling the e-mail notification bubble, that has to be "Viewed" or "Dismissed"...............
Thank you (anyway) for the input.
Hi all.
I don't know if it's the correct section to ask this Q. But I'm currently having this issue only on my G1.
I need to separate Text Message tones from Notification tones, right now I've seen only Phone ringtone [That's OK] and Notification ringtone, which applies for Text msgs and all other notifications, i.e also when am only plugging the phone into charge.
Is there any way around this?
Thanks for helping
This can vary from ROM to ROM, but normally you can just go into messages, click menu, settings, notifications settings and select from there.
You can do the same with anything just change where you click the menu button
After I assign a custom or different stock ringtone to Contact A, the ringtone also gets played when a WhatsApp message is received from that contact. How can I stop this from occurring? Please guide.
Found the answer:
EDIT: go to whatsapp setting -> notifications -> uncheck contact ringtone (use contact's ringtone as notification ringtone)
On N6 stock, any way to specify a unique alert for email for a contact?
Thanks

Isn't that for the ring tone when they call?

Yes, and I believe that is the only option on stock. I checked in messenger settings and don't see any option for changing contact specific notifications. This may be an option in 3rd party messenger apps though.
In Messenger - Open a current SMS thread with the contact you want to change > click 3 dot menu > select "People & options" > change notification sound under General. You can also change the color of the conversation for that contact by clicking the color icon next to their name. These changes remain even if you delete the current thread with that contact.
I haven't found a way to change notifications for GMail.

I saw that option and didn't know if that was for specific contact or system wide. Thank you!
After upgrading to Lollipop just 2 days ago, my SMS notifications on the pull-down display no longer show the actual text message, but instead show "# unread messages" (# indicates unread count). It was nice having the message preview so I could see if the text was important or not.
I have made Message+ a priority notification app. Not sure what else I can do I didn't find any options in the Message+ settings menu. Anyone have any suggestions or a fix?
HELP
I am having this same issue. I have tried everything.
Settings > Sound & Notification, scroll to Notification > When device is locked, tap and select "Show all notification content".
