anybody here experience with their p20 pro cant be detected in PC, MAC, Laptop. but it charges when inserted the usb, i tried to allow the hisuite....
what am i missing
try different USB port or different cable. Make sure you follow the on-screen instructions carefully. It instruct u to allow HDB permission on phone. If u don't do that, the phone won't be detected by HiSuite.
P20 Pro connection problem
thank you for your reply.
i use my old phone(P9) with the type C cable- it works fine
here are the facts:
- first i use its default cable(doesnt work but it charges)
- second i use my previous cable from p9(doesnt work but it charges)
- third i bought a type C cable(doesnt work but it charges)
- i Reset the phone - no success
- no screen instruction were display when plugged into computer
- i tried it in PC, Mac, Laptop (on all its usb port)
- i allowed HBD
- i even enabled USB debugging

Stupid question . but did you set it to "transfer files" as standard
if not try that ..

Go to Settings/System/Developer Options.
Enable "Always prompt when connecting to USB".
Connect with USB cable, in popup choose "Transfer files"
Start Hisuite.
Should be okay now.

Well, that’s kind of strange, you should get the popup when you ask for it.
Do you get any notification when you connect via USB?
If you do, you can tap and choose “Transfer files”.
If you don’t, go to Settings/Apps & Notifications/Notifications Management/Settings/USB connection.
Enable here (see picture), as a start.
Do you get a notification now, when connecting with USB?
If you do, tap and choose “Transfer files”.
If you're on beta, you can't connect to pc. Also you can't do usb tethering
@kupa
Do you get any notification when you connect via USB? -->NO
If you don’t, go to Settings/Apps & Notifications/Notifications Management/Settings/USB connection. --> I ALREADY DID
Do you get a notification now, when connecting with USB? -->STILL NO POP UP NOTIFICATION
i heard i ding sound on my phone whenever i plugin the usb, but its only charging.

- you mean my unit is a beta copy?
- how will i know?
- is it upgrade able?
@marke1415
I am having the same issue trying to connect to a MBP - I can try connecting to a PC tomorrow. My phone *does* bring up the usb prompt whenever I plug in the cable however.
Hey, so I have the exact same issue, where the phone doesn't appear on the computer, I get no popups from the phone even though all the settings are correct and the phone doesn't even appear in the device manager of the computer. I have tried installing some drivers (Not specific ones because i can't select the device in device manager).
This is also a fresh phone, due to some other stupid stuff I factory reset my phone, I'm also on a Chinese version CLT-AL00
Had same issue found a fix
I had the exact same issue. There was no popup to ask what I wanted to do and all it would do is charge. Tried developer options etc etc and everything everyone's been suggesting here.
My uncle finally found something that worked straight away. Download 'USB settings' on the play store. Worked straight away no issues. Must be a software thing then I guess. Worked for us anyway so hopefully will work for you ??
Happened to me once, make sure the driver installed on the computer is the correct one, install Hisuite which comes with drivers.
Check your device manager (windows) also hidden devices, uninstalling a problematic device could be the culprit, try the below first.
With your device just start over.
Go to dev options.
Revoke usb debugging
Disable usb debugging
Turn on always prompt switch
If it's on already, turn it off and connect to computer, if it prompts then great.
If not. Disconnect and turn the prompt switch on.
Reconnect.
If it still doesn't then disconnect, turn off the prompt and enable USB debugging, turn on the prompt and reconnect.
If it doesn't work after that, try another computer, clean the port (toothbrush should do it)
Try another cable.
Install the hisuite app if you don't already have it, reconnect.
If it still doesn't then I'm at a loss.
initially encounter the same problem connecting P20 Pro to pc,
Finally get it to work by connecting P20 Pro to my laptop USB 3.1 port via huawei high speed usb cable, it wont work on USB 2.0 port or on normal speed cable.
Hmm.
Dial *#*#2846579#*#*
Go to background settings
Then USB Settings
See if HiSuite option is selected

Guys,
need your help. Computers dont see my device even like usb device (i tried on several PCs). Normally windows flashes when see that usb device is connected, but in my case nothing is happenning. The same story with ActiveSync. PDA also just shows that battery is charging and doesnt show any signs that pc is connected. I've made several hard resets but it didnt help. Other functions work perfect. Please advice.

Yep, I did. I used different cables and tried on several computers. No success...
Go to start, settings, connections tab at the bottom. Click on USB to PC, uncheck advanced network funtionality. If it's uncheck try checking it. Also make sure that you have activesync version 4.5. If you are still unable to connect try disabling your windows firewall or norton, mcafee etc.
make sure Windows Mobile based device connectivity

I followed your advice and unchecked and checked it again. It didnt help. I also checked mcaffee, it doesnt conflict with activesync and before i didnt experience any problems with mcaffee and my pda connection. So the problem is not in win.firewall (disabled) and mcaffee. I use Activesync 4.5, build 5096. I think the problem is in my PDA, cause i tried to connect it to different computers and it wasnt recognized even as usb device as normally happens when you connect any usb device to pc.

if you dont see it, you may need to reinstall windows mobile device center
Did it ever connect?
Having the windows services started will not effect the device being detected as a USB device...it should at least show up in device manager.
If you have already tried this on several computers with several cables and have also tried unchecking the advanced USB functionality as described above, then I hate to say it but either you have no idea what you are doing (unlikely...as it's pretty simple to plug in a phone) or the phone is bad.
There are quite a few things that can stop the phone from Activesyncing properly....but not much that would prevent it from coming up in device manager.
You might want to try syncing over Bluetooth if your PC has it.

It worked perfect before, but recently ceased to communicate
You don't need that service... he is showing you a Vista machine and yours is XP.
And, as stated no running service is going to cause the device to not be seen via device manager, that is a low level hardware bus even before drivers for the device are installed (assuming the USB bus and host adapters work).
First work on getting it seen in device manager and then worry about how to get it to sync.
Check your USB port on the phone and see if the plastic core is straight across or curved down. If curved, the problem is likely the port itself.
If you have one of the HTC splitters that allows you to use headphones and charger simultaneously, try connecting via that.
i doubt its the usb port, im pretty positive its the service. My kaiser wont connect without the service under Vista. doesnt even show up as a generic device.

That is a service that is new to vista. XP doesn't have that service. But you are correct, mobile devices won't connect without it running in Vista.

Coming from a PC technician, test it with everything in McAfee disabled. Don't just assume there is no conflict because it doesn't report it. Although you said you tried it on several PC's so that would eliminate it as a suspect .
BTW, what changed when you noticed it was no longer connecting? New software, new ROM, etc... Is it still under warranty?
If there were no software changes preceding the problem, I'd go back and check the hardware possibilities. I can't think of anything that would disable the service unless you tried to run some type of system optimizer.
Hi,
This may help
> Start > Right click on My computer > Properties > Hardware (tab) > Device manager
It will open a list of devices , find USB controller ( Universal Serial Bus Controller )
Right click on it > Update ( or something like that ) . ( make sure your kaiser connected to pc through miniusb )
If it doesnt say anything about recognizing your kaiser. Try to delete (uninstall ) some ( or all ) of the items in USB controller ( above ) .
And then, update it again.
It worked for me most of the time when my pc dont recognize the device.
Goodluck

thanks . It doesnt cost me nothing but save another guy something, why not lol .
I have a weird problem with my USB port (I assume it's PC related but...?).
I can connect and sync my kaiser with a std or the HTC USB cable but if I cradle it in the Seidio or connect the 3-1 adapter I get the response "unknown USB device". Strange enough is that NONE of the two is charging. At other PC's it sometimes works, sometimes not. I assume my USB drivers of my Dell Optiplex are toast but how to reinstall...
Well, start with checking to see if under settings------->connections-------->"usb to pc ", the usb to pc option doesnt have " enable advanced networking functionality" checked ( enabled ). That will most times cause issues with activesync connecting and especially prevent USB charging.
Next, check to see if actvesync is set to use USB as an active connection type under its settings.
Delete any previous activesync pairs you may have and try to reconnect. I somehow doubt its your drivers but the best way to check is to just go to Microsoft.com, navigate to their downloads section, and download a new copy of activesync.
One last thing to check. Some roms have a battery option (settings ----------> power-------> battery tab ) that doesnt allow charging when connected to a PC. Make sure that is NOT checked.
Thanks for your reply.
I tried all you mentioned beside uninst. AS clean the PCs reg and reinstall.
Will let everybody know.
How can i change USB connection mode for the Note? Everytime I connect the USB cable, Note always connect in MPT mode even with the MHL adapter. Help pleaseeeeeee
usb debugging
go to menu/settings/applications/development on phone then put a checked mark in the box for usb debugging. when you connect to your computer your phone will beep letting you know it has been connected to a usb source. use pull down screen touch the usb connected message and then touch the connect usb storage button. the little green guy turns orange and now your phone will show up on your computer as an extra drive. from here you can just drag and drop files to the phones directory just like a usb pen drive. i believe this is what you where asking about. hope it helps.
note: first time connecting your computer it will probably install a new device driver and also if you are using Kies you need to turn off debugging before Kies can see the phone.
First off, makes sure you install latest version of Samsung Kies, which includes USB driver for the Note.
Also there is setting to connect mass storage mode manually: Settings -> Wireless and network -> USB utilities. But it seems to be the same as just choosing to connect from the notification bar and wants you to disable debugging.

I am facing similar issue, Windows7-32 bit, when connect SGN via USB (MTP) for firmware upgrade but not sure about 'Kies Mode', few other people got firmware upgraded successfully so i think it's something else. see this link http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1318734&page=59.
In the notifications bar at the top of your screen. You will see a usb symbol in that bar. 3) Use your finger and pull down the bar and then tap the usb symbol. There you will see the option to chang it from MTP mode to any other mode option it has.
I hope this helps.

So one of the big downsides to not having root, is the inability to patch KitKit's blocking of writing to external SD cards for most apps. One of the affected apps is AirDroid (a personal favourite).
I haven't been able to find any apps yet that have the proper permissions to write to the external SD (and in particular, via WiFi transfer). I do this when I want to quickly download TV shows from my Mac to my phone when I go to the gym.
I know about the workaround to write to internal SD first, but that's a pain.
Mounting the External SD via USB cable with Android File Transfer works fine, but requires opening the flaps (yuck).
Any other thoughts?
(Of course, AirDroid should just fix this. Apps like the camera and even iSyncr (which I also use/love) have access to their own folders on the External SD, which would be fine!)

Strange, I get an error when I try to upload even a small file (<1 MB) from the web UI to my external SD card.
"This webpage is not available"
Are you sure you are uploading to an EXTERNAL SD card?
I understand that you may be working from another device. But if you can work from the phone it's possible to read SMB shares from File Commander and copy directly to SD.
No need for an app. Go to Settings > Xperia Connectivity > USB Connectivity, then Wireless Media Transfer > Pair with PC
Follow the instructions to pair with PC, and then just use Windows Explorer as normal.

Works perfectly fine for me on 8.1.
OK lets go over what I'm doing.
settings> Xperia Connectivity> USB Connectivity
From there I have 'Install software' checked & USB Connection mode is MTP
I'm now going to attempt to 'Pair with PC'
stage 2 tells me to connect my phone with a USB lead (I've already got Sony PC Companion installed & up to date)
step 3 tells me to tell it which version of windows I have, I tell it 8.1 & as I already have PC Companion installed, I disconnect the USB lead.
I select 'how to connect', choose WiFi
all is well while I get to the 'Pairing' part, I reconnect my USB lead & wait for a long time while it tries to pair, then I get a 'PC Companion was not able to connect to the phone, disconnect & connect again' dialog.
At this point, in PC Companion I get a picture of my phone and a 'your phone/tablet is up to date' I can even transfer files to my SD Card using the cable. I am only connected via USB lead though.
I don't have WiFi connection to the PC though. Which was the whole point of this, so what's going wrong?

During the pairing process, do not let your phone go to sleep. Keep it awake.
THIS is the solution (well for me) I changed display sleep to 30 mins for the duration of the experiment, and the pairing did take a while, approx 5 minutes, but it took & all is well, just remember to change your display sleep settings back once its done.

It is weird. It will show that it is connected, andthere is no way to get rid of that as far as I know. But, to clear the "Disconnected" one, just tap the "Clear" button on the Notification sheet. Also, I find going directly into the Xperia Connectivity portion of the settings is the best way to Connect and Disconnect. Works quite well for me.
Yes that worked after the reboot, I had a lot of bother setting it up, hopefully now it'll be OK ( if I don't unpair by mistake)

Good work for the Mac users(I am not one), but this should be a helpful post for WiFi transfers on a Mac/Apple device
Getting back my z3c this evening so cannot test right now, how about tools like ES file explorer https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.estrongs.android.pop ?
Use that all the time to transfer anything via wifi, regardless which devices are connected (phone, tablet, laptop)
Is there a way to disable this or permanently allow access? I have no idea why but after my last factory reset it didn't pop up so I know it's possible.

Anyone?
Is it actually connected to a PC when these "normal" pop ups occur?
If not, I suspect a dirty USB Type-C port.
Any luck? I also want these prompts to remain hidden. I dont need to be notifed about this every time I connect my device to my vehicle to charge.
For me when I do "Cancel Autorisation for Debug USB" in Developper Settings, there is an additional Pop up that appear, saying to Remeber the answer for this PC, and always an option to tick to remeber for this PC, and some serial number related to my PC appear.
Of course I select all those, and always for this PC, it is supposed to remember my answer, but it doesnt! everytime I need to connect to my PC need to allow that ****!!
On my S7e I need to allows & remember answer for this PC aand it works like a charm, it never pop up again and connection between Phone and PC is working as should.
I read around that Root should be present for some kind of Auto Allow, but could not find any modules or anything...
If someone know how to accomplish that with Root, thx in advance.

Can you try disabling com.sec.usbsettings with ADB? I believe that app is what controls the pop up, but it might break other things. Honestly this was a huge f up by samsung. What were they thinking? Why would we want a pop up message every time we plug our phone into our vehicle to charge it or to use android auto?

unfortunaly I tried looking for "com.sec.usbsettings" to disable it with ADB, but not avalable on my phone.
I had hope with Firefds Kits Module & Xposed, but dont seems to be working, that was the kind of solution I was looking for. Sure should some kind of trick like that around.
I have this issue too. Honestly the only solution seems to be to not plug your device into any kind of computer to charge. If the issue is happening when you plug your device into your vehicle to use android auto, then you would have to use wireless android auto and set your USB behavior to disable file transfer which will prevent it from attempting to connect to the head unit computer which causes the stupid message. Kind of a dumb design oversight to have to prompt the user with no way to turn it off but what did you expect? These are the same people who came up with all this other forced system bloatware like device care.
