fast maybe not but fine yes! I think it's in a medium level to use. If you want a fast phone.. use poco f1
Compared to high end devices it's not fast but for a €200 device it sure is fast.
I don't game a lot (if not at all) on my phone and so far I've tried this phone only with Pixel Car Racer, FR Legends and Warbands Bushido: the phone always works fine and it doesn't get hot, it might if you were to use it with more demanding games though.
As far as everyday use is concerned this phone is perfect (to me) though: I use my phone a lot throughout the day and I'm always switching between one app and another but the phone never left me down.
So far I'm very pleased with the performance offered by this phone.
I gave it 4 stars because you can get for about the same price the Mi A2, which has a faster SoC.

I would have to say the same, no lag. Games run beautifully, and multitasking compared to a couple models back is seamless now.
Pretty soon these devices will be used in every office given to every employee and you will literally just plug into a dock with video output keyboard and mouse. At the end of your day you unplug and take home.
Some phones are great to take camping because if you play Asphalt 8 long enough, the back warms up to the ideal temperature that can bake bread. the only heat I have noticed was when I first got the phone and hooked it up to an Anker fast charger(usb-c/usb-c) battery pack. After its first full charge, no heat. stayed relatively cool.
Will update with changes as needed.
I have experienced no warm up or heat at all with my Note 8. This makes me very happy

No heating here I play Crusaders of light all day at work, plugged into the fast charger all day as well, no heating what so ever. Did the same with the galaxy s8
My Note 7 would get almost hot but haven't noticed ant heat on the Note 8 or S8+ while playing games and on the charger.
I have to agree with the previous posters. The Note 8 compared to the Note 7, S7 Edge and S7 has vertually none of the heating issues that the 7 series did.
Heavy use with and without charger plugged in, barely warm.
As the previous posters, I can attest the 7 series phones got hot, very hot after heavy usage. I saw a YouTube video of the Note 8 being torn down yesterday and saw there is a heat pipe from the processor that is designed to channel the heat from the CPU to the phone's frame. Next gen CPU must really run cooler.
It runs much cooler than my V20. But seriously this device doesn't get hot at all. The only time I've gotten it hot is when I first got it and it was installing multitudes of apps.

I have written a comment to another created threat in mi 9 forum, but I would like to read your comments here too.
I'm having battery draining and SOT problems with my mi 9, like I said in title (like most people I think).
I have tried everything to improve my battery life in my mi 9, and It's not bad at all, but I was expecting better performance for a top xiaomi smartphone with sd 855 and 5 months old in spite of the fact that it has "only" 3300mah battery ...
I'm not a heavy user and I try to get max SOT and minimum battery drain in all my phones, because I don't like changing smartphones very often and I like to take care of it.
I came from a Moto G4 plus, and I had 5h of SOT in 48h without high standby drainage (maybe 1-2% of drainage overnight in 7-9h) with a 3 years old battery and worst hardware and software. In mi 9, I'm getting 5-6h of SOT in 48-72h. Not bad at all, but standby drainage is awfull. It loses 20-25% of the battery every 48h (3-5% overnight), and in a smartphone with such a fair battery it's a problem. If I'm not getting great results with not heavy use and my smartphone is new, I don't want to think in 2-3 years + mid-heavy use ... I have tried everything (full wipes, reinstalling, the most powerfull battery saving, etc) and I don't have great result. Standby drainage is very hight compared to other phones (I have tried a friend poco f1 and I had 10h in 48-72h with 1% overnight drainage. It was awsome).
And now the question ...
I'm thinking of changing my mi 9 for a huawei mate 20... I still have the 30d Amazon refund and I am not comfortable with my phone's battery.
- Mate 20 pros vs mi 9: +700 mah battery and more efficient, the best ips panel without burn-in problem, and fingerprint sensor behind the screen (no like too much in-screen fingerprint at all).
- Pros mi 9 vs mate 20: sd 855 (but geekbech it's very very similar, and antutu winner is mi 9 only for gamming but mate 20 still on top), unlocking bootloader for mi 9 (better comunity in xda, but if emui works well I think I don't need custom rooms, the problem here is Trump/google vs China ... but now apeares to be solved and we would have newer updates to Android Q), wireless charging (I don't use it because smartphone is hotter when charging 3-5º vs cable+1,5a charger, It takes more time to charge with elevated temperature), not jack (better for waterproof), maybe very little better cameras in mi 9 and little better results, 4 months younger (very little difference) and It's the top phone on xiaomi (mate 20 is the little brother because we have mate 20 pro, 20x, p30, p30 pro and we will have soon mate 20 and mate 20 pro; and that could be worst because we will get latter uptdates in mate 20).
What do you think? Would you change mi 9 for mate 20? Reading your comments. Greetings.
If your looking for better battery life I'd say get the mate 20. I've had mine for just under 3 months. Best damn purchase I've ever made (purchased way below retail during trump ban). I consider myself a medium to heavy user (I don't play mobile games however). With some useless features turned off and some fetch services disabled. I can easily get 8-10 hrs on screen time with this phone, it's the best battery life I've ever had, prior I was getting 4hrs with another Android phone.

Heat? I haven't had any issues with heat if by that you mean does the phone get too hot to touch, it's cool the majority of the time. As for performance, EMUI 9.1 is very smooth and I haven't had any slow downs ??.

After 30 mins of Asphalt 9 the device is damn cold... Could even be used as a cooler

Just a month ago I had Poco F1. On the battery Sot was similar to the 20 mate. Night drainage in Poco 1-3%, mate 2-5%. Mate saves better on screen on. Performance similar to Poco. If I had to exchange Mi9, it was on mi9t Pro.

Well, the snapdragon version seemed a bit laggy compared to the Exynos device. Interesting, isn't it?

Long time performance seems to be better with medium power saving since the Exynos 990 tend to throttle by heat when set to optimized or high performance.
Medium power saving that lower the processor speed to 70% seems to produce less heat which preserve great performance and battery life.
Therefore, the Exynos 990 is pretty good when in medium power saving.

Heat is so minimal when using the phone but have tested video extensively or gaming. Heat is nearly non existent in other tasks. I think it is actually a bit too low when charging. Seems they have the charging throttled to keep the battery temp under 100°F which limits charging speed slower than it cloud be.

My exynos variant have a high temp at idle and load. Soc idle min 42, normal uses 50-58celsius, max soc temp is 68c.
Antutu scores after loop.
1.run 540k
2.run 520k
3. run 460k
My Exynos is cold in idle, cold in web browsing and warm while playing ragnarok mobile
It heat like a hot fry pan. While using phone normally. if i get call. I can't even touch is to my cheek. Sometimes it feel it will burn my skin.
With my Note 9 this heating issue was even more worst. Due to overheat. I wasn't able to use camera more than 10-15 minutes. Camera app keep stopping because of overheat.
Worst phone brand. Even after having so much innovation. Samsung Note series always disappoint me.
The only time I notice any heat build up at all is when it's on a wireless charger. Charging with the 25 watt included charger there's no heat at all.
When using Camera and try all options , different zooms , Device starts heating and gets to an abnormal temperature , this is affects the 5G signal , as it disconnects the 5G recipient automatically and turns to LTE !!
In my testing, the "Exynos" Note20U is not heating up like the previous Galaxies.
My SD version gets a bit warm just from normal tasks. And my battery life is atrocious :/ I really like this device but I may need to contact Samsung about a replacement and see if I got a defective one.
Exynos version at 120hz, a bit over room temperature screen off, warm when in use and hot when taking pictures. My note 10+ and oneplus 7t pro were never this warm. I'm also getting pretty bad battery life.

All around quite warm, charging, viewing, hotspotting.
UHD60 capture definitely gets the transistors in George Foremen mode if you catch my drift.
For mine, heat issue seems exacerbated by being on 5G signal. No heat when on 4G LTE / CDMA Only mode.

Strange. Having used notes since the first, i must say this is the coolest phone ive had. By cool i mean temp - avg cpu is low 30°cs, multiple runs of back to back antutu only got me to 37°c - with performance varience less than 3%.
It didnt heat up much when charging, editing 108mp files, or 4K/60 recording
Of course this is SD 865+ (N986N South Korea), not exynos like my older notes.
But so is yours. Like Jerry Rigs, may be urs has graphite cooling.. I wonder if some phones (like SK version) have the SD chip with copper cooling = which would be the perfect combo...
Note 20 Ultra Exynos990 heat Up so much. I don't understand what samsung is doing with exynos.
Snapdragon HK version here. No heat whatsoever. I am not playing games. The screen sometimes gets just warm when I use extensive tasks (camera, youtube, etc). CPU temperature always below 40C.
UK Exynos990 from official pre-order, so bad in heating and battery life. Warm normal use anything slightly CPU/GPU intensive make the phone as hot as a fry pan.
Note 20 ULTRA 5G 256GB "Exynos" - mine seems cool most of the time. Haven't been able to make it hot even with gaming or using camera.
Seems huge improvement compared with Note 8 in this area.

Wow are your temps still that low? How about when wireless charging? I have the South Korean version too and I hit about 40c when wireless charging, and a lot of times it just sits around 35c when doing normal tasks.
