For a 4GB phone, it doesn't keep too many apps in background, but I think it just needs a software tweaking (and it would need root).
This is a poor phone for multitasking. I have the 3GB version and it barely keeps more than three apps in memory. I thought it was because of my RAM amount (3GB) but I've since read that the 4GB model is the same. It must be the MIUI software. Xiaomi need to do something about this as it spoils a good phone.

I would only give this phone a 2 out of 10 for multitasking. Luckily it's a powerhouse and can open apps from scratch quickly.
I only ever have between 4 and 10 apps in my recent list. My old HTC m9 would keep dozens in memory with less ram. Still, I'm very happy with the LG V20. Just waiting for root...
Multitasking works way better than my n4. However I still think multiwindow works better with samsung phones.

Why 2 out of 10, you comment that another phone had more apps with less memory, however that by no means tells anything about how the system is managing memory.
What are you seeing in the v20 that makes you think it's only rating a 2? Curious for details.

I would give the phone overall a rating of 8 out of 10.
But I would give the Multitasking / Memory Management a 2 or 3. As an example, I woke this morning and checked my recent apps list, only 4 apps were there. All other apps were closed off overnight for some reason. I'm not sure if this is an LG thing or because of Nougat. But I would have hoped that 4GB could hold more apps in RAM. Hopefully, if the 990ds gets root, then I can remove some bloat and tweak the memory management somewhat.
As I said, I would give the phone overall a rating of 8 out of 10

3GB low-speed DDR3 is not fluid as flagship devices!
Multitasking is satisfying, but not perfect
Good Multitasking, competitive as Xperia X Performance, but short for a Mid-Range that "try to imitate" to Flagship phones.
Little issues with that, 3GB can satisfy most users. I can switch between apps without need to reload, even some games. Can't comlpain...

Well, multitasking is great once it's debloated.
However, 1.5gb ram isn't enough those days, but that depends from user to user. E.g. your grandmother wouldn't need more than that .
well it can multitask 3 or 4 apps at once but sometimes it gets slow when you multitask facebook and messenger
j5 prime
i use the j5 prime and multitask runs very smoothly im so happy with the phone

Rarely, rarely, does it ever reload an app. Great RAM management. Much better than the Pixel 2 phones.
Multitasking
In One Plus 5T multitasking is fine.

No lags
Me and my techy friends talk a lot about device manufacturers making devices with 6 & 8GB of ram, and the consensus iseem to be that mobile phones can only use up to 4GB of ram, but my device shows that it's actually utilizing the ram. Is OnePlus, doing something different. I know that if the ram is needed, then it will be accessed. I can't seem to make this device hiccup. I really like this device.
