Battery Degrading? - OnePlus 3T Questions & Answers

Hi, Lately I've noticed my battery draining very fast. Like 50% in 4 hours. So I installed accubattery to further see why. After a while it states my battery capacity has dropped to 80%. I've been experiencing miserable battery backup ever since. Do I need to change my battery?

When did u buy it and how often do you charge it?

Hi, I am also experiencing bad battery life, I'm on OOS 5.0.6 without root (stock kernel). Last month I was still on Nougat OOS and battery was fine, so I would go ahead and guess oreo is eating a lot of battery, also you can try and switch to 2G network, I was on 4G and mobile signal was not good and drain was higher then when I switched to 2G.
See pictures for info
I tried oneplus page "repair phone" so they change my battery but no answer from them (send the request on 19.11.2018.)

I'm in the same boat. Bought mine somewhere in the first months of last year (January maybe?) and based on 35 charging sessions my battery is now on 79% of the original charge (2701 of 3400 mAh). I'm thinking of sending it to repair service and pay to get it replaced because the battery life is noticeably worse even with the NLOS ROM and MicroG.

My 3T will be 2 years old next month. I was facing serious battery issues so after searching a lot, I installed Accubattery and let it analyse my battery usage for a few days. I found out my battery had been degraded to around 77%( no wonder I had to charge my phone ATLEAST 3 to 4 times for a 24-hour endurance, iwas on stock oxygen oreo with franco kernel).
THis july, i got my battery replaced(June END for Rs800 INR) and now i am on OOS NOUGAT(way more BATTERY FRIENDLY and throttles less compared to crappy unoptimised OOS OREO we got).
Battery was fine and lasted more than i needed for PUBG MOBILE. but within a few months, BUT only after 5 months battery quality has degraded to 82% again!!!!

I bought my 3T in December 2016, lately I have been noticing a lot of battery drain (everything stock and latest OOS). I have to charge my phone at least 2-3 times a day. However, I have been streaming a lot of video (chromecast) and audio (bt earphones) so I am guessing that could be the culprit. Netflix on chromecast is especially hell for battery life.

Get your battery replaced from original service center

I would take the battery health % with a grain of salt. Batteries hardly every have their advertised full capacity, even straight from the factory. I remember a thread from a while back (older devices - it's been a few years) where an XDA'er tested multiple batteries (factory condition) from various OEM manufacturers, as well as reputable 3rd party batteries. Hardly any met the advertised capacity. Something like 80-95% is about as good as you can expect. Maybe folks on here have some more device specific, and/or more recent data. And obviously, if you took the readings when the phone was new; you'd have a good start point. But the reading now doesn't mean a whole lot. Could have only been 80-90% to begin with. And replacing the battery may be a waste of money and effort.

I bought it april 2017, So That's 20 months now. Usually I charge to full every morning and some at nights depending on my usage. Untill 2 Weeks ago I charged every 6 or 8 hours (while I had the battery drain, happened for about 2 Weeks ) . Last week i moved from open beta to stable and wiped everything. While it's not as critical as before, Phone holds charge Better when screen is off but I still have worse screen on times. Now I don't charge above 90%.

Does this mean that you were charging the phone every time till over 85% and in general you were leaving the device plugged to charger for many hours?
If this happened for long time, then for sure the battery has been degraded.

Mugen powerbattery 1800mah for legend full review

Hei,
Ever since i saw this thread, I was considering a better battery for my legend.
To begin with the stock battery (Standard HTC battery) that came with the phone.
1. It used to last me for 2 hrs 10mins of voice call
2. If GPS was on it takes about 25mins to fully drain from about 95%
3. between 80to40% whenever screen was switched on, phone used to heat up.
4. At times (lately) even when the phone was in stand by in my pocket, it used to heat up so badly, i had to refrain from keeping the phone in my pocket. It actually felt like a "hotpack" in my pocket.
Phone is just perfect except for the retarded battery that comes with it. Whats the use an awesome phone if it you cant go through a day of light to moderate usage without requiring a charge?
So i decided to try out the mugen power batter. I love my legend, so even though battery was a bit pricey about INR.2,153.00 (USD46.95) (after shipping). I ordered a mugen battery 1800mah from their official website on 8th Nov. They took about 14 days to ship it to India from Hongkong (3 days waiting as batteries were out of stock).
Received it a week back. and currently i am running the 4th recharge cycle.
Immediately installed the battery on receiving it. (Couldn't wait!!)
The battery came with instructions to fully charge the battery (even after its fully charged as indicated by the green LED on phone) for 10-12 hrs for each cycle and nearly drain the battery before charging it again. (I took it to 5% each time, charged for a minimum of 11 hrs)
The fit
I was dead scared seeing the comments in this thread. But the battery was a perfect fit, infact the same fit as the stock battery. It would directly slide out without any poking / fingering
Tip - There is a small red plastic stick in the battery compartment to assist in battery removal. I dont have to use it though
The following are the actual statistics i have written down after each cycle. (Help me post a screen shot pls)
Recharge cycle 1
1st charge for 12hrs continuoesly
Voice calls 29% - 45min 44 sec
wifi 30% - 7 hrs 22min
Display 27% - 2hrs 12min (full brightness for 1hr)
Mpas 8% - GPS -23min, data 10mb
cell standby 4% - 7hrs 22min
phone idle - 2% - 5hrs 12mins
Total 7hrs 22mins from 100% to 6%.
Dint record the 2nd cycle, but was difficult to drain the battery in the next 13 hrs, had to switch on GPS + music on for 30mins on speakers + torch app with about 80% brightness for 1 hr to drain it before 11pm the next day.
I wanted to charge battery for atleast 10 hrs before leaving for office
Recharge cycle 3 Unbelievable!!!
3rd charge for 11hrs
Voice calls 12% - 1 hr 15min 12 sec
wifi + bluetooth 44% - 37 hrs 12min (dint turnoff bluetooth/wifi) transferred about 153mb in this cycle
Display 17% - 3hrs 12min (played angry birds for 1hr!!)
Mpas 13% - GPS -14 hrs 12min, data 43mb
cell standby 9% - 7hrs 22min
phone idle - 5% - 5hrs 12mins
Total 37hrs 31mins from 100% to 4%.
As you could see there was a drastic increase in battery performance after the 3rd recharge.
------------
Note - I am using juice defender (free version) + the phone is on strictly GSM only mode. (Exhausted my monthly data quota on 3g )
Currently I am charging it for the 4th time. Will post the final results again.
Also as froyo users are posting better battery performance, expect even more longevity of the battery once i receive my OTA (damn ever eluding update)
Conclusion - Definitely its a drastic improvement from the stock battery and the best part is it resolves the only problem i had with my legend, heating of the phone for no reason!
Makes me wonder why legend doesn't come with such a battery on default purchase.
Thanks Mugen for such a great battery
Do drop your comments and suggestions below or any standard benchmarking tools that i can use ...
Review part 2
< Reserving for 4th, 5th and final cycle >
Heating up is unusual with legend under normal usage, are you sure it has to do with the stock battery?
Some people did report problems with juice defender, your case may be different though.
Gotta say mugen battery was very lasting initially if you follow their instructions properly, but after using it for couple of months I don't think iam getting that same performance, its much less.. though still better than the stock one.
My mugen fits lil tighter than the stock one, its hard to get it out without that red lever. Iam kinda surprised about yours being the same fit as stock one. Dunno if they changed anything.

No heating issues at all after replacing the stock battery with the Mugen one. Havent changed / installed any new apps / software for the past 2 weeks. 1 week with the new battery.
So i can confidently say the stock battery is the culprit.

I dont know if they have made any changes to the battery. My Mugen slides right out of the slot on tilting the phone after opening the case just like the stock battery!

It could be that, but iam sure it doesnt last as long as it was initially.. but still better than the stock one for sure.

Mine doesnt slide right out like the stock battery, it does need lil effort. (ie. the red lever) May be they made some changes after selling many pieces ?

I've experienced the same short life when charging through USB, but when I use the wall charger, it lasts much longer.
Going to bite the bullet & try out one of these, just awaiting the money to be put in my PayPal account.

How good is the battery life for you guys?

I know it's a large battery that's why I'm asking this question. My p9 plus drops from 100-95 relatively quickly just by using whatsapp and instagram. like less than an hour. Is that normal or is it just me?
Sorry but that is bad?

errr..? the huawei p9 plus? Cause some people say they could get more than a day out of this phone with normal usage but I can't seem to do that haha. I could if I keep the screen off like most of the time but definitely not normal usage.
A lot depends on the phone signal, if you move into areas where the signal is poor the phone is constantly looking to better that signal... Using more power. 5% an hour is pretty good by my reconning.. Will give you around 20 hours to zero.
I am coming from samsung A8. Comparing A8 the p9 plus is better in battery back up for me.
Mine is good too. Comparing with Xperia Z1 Compact is much much better. I have 5 to 6 hours of SOT and above average usage. With normal usage usualy I have close to 7 hours and 3 to 5% juice in it.
my battery life is amazing, best I've ever had on a phone, I would install wakelock detector and see whats eating your battery, I recently got over a 100 hrs between charges which is amazing, SOT was 7 hours 26 min, I do have greenify installed though which helps.
2 days and 1 hour here with 22℅ left and 5 hours SOT
This thing is just amazing
For me battery is perfect, mostly 2 days between charge and 6 hours SOT, no root pure stock for now all with normal usage.
Best battery I've ever had on any phone, even the ones with 4000mAh battery can't match this. This thing just rocks! After 3 full charging cycles I am stable on 2 days between charging with most of the time on wi-fi or 4g/3g and gps on when needed and my SOT is 8hrs up. Righ now I have 11%batt remaining and 8hrs 01min SOT.

What do you mean full charge cycle? And 2 days with 6 hours screen on time meaning your battery can last 2 days inclusive of the 6 hours SOT? cause for mine, I plugged it out at 9am and now it's already at 49%. Screen on time probably about 3-4 hours so far.
That is insane amount of screen on time. If this for was 2k screen I wouldn't hesitate to buy it. I have to wait for the P10 Plus

i think he means that he load the P9 Plus 3 time from 0 to 100%
Dropping from 100% to 95% after using Whatspp and Instagram for an hour is normal. My P9 Plus can last me more than 1 day with noramal browsing, emails, SMS and Whatsapp. It is way better than my LG V10.
First battery cycle and second cycle
WhatsApp all day
1 hour instagram
1 hour eyeem
2 hours lightning browser
Some photos
Easy 6+ hours SOT
The battery is not as good as I expected. I unplugged it at 6.45am and my usage are as follows:
WhatsApp
Facebook
Clash of Clans
Instagram
WeChat
and a little bit of browsing
My battery was 11% when I got home at 7pm. SOT was around 3 hours. Is this normal? I have to charge my phone everyday unlike what others has said.
everyone have different apps installed and we all use our device differently. Waste of time to compare each others battery life.
I have a lot of **** running in the background and i just charge when i need. Nothing i worry about, always a arm length from an electrical outlet. (home, work, school, train etc.)

Unfortunately all the apps u r running are power-intensive. I suppose if u keep running those apps from 6.45am until 7pm (which is more than 12 hours) and still left some juice on it, this should consider very good battery life already.
The P10 should be a serious contender when it comes out. I am torn between Samsung S8, Sony Zeus and the P10 Plus. I'm really interested to see what the P10 plus and Sony Zeus have to offer.
I just got phone two days now ,At second charge, very satisfied

Just you wait....

until your phone dies.
After being rooted and debloated and functioning flawlessly, my Note 8 died last night after literally 6 months. While the battery was low, I'm not sure it was so low it would crash and shut down, not returning to life again after several known attempts to revive it.
So, after looking at the Big Internet Thing, it appears this is rather a notable issue associated with the Note 8, with phones crapping out around 6-7 months. Pardon the pun.
While I am receiving another from Verizon tomorrow, I'd advise you keep track of your warranty and pay attention to how your device continues to perform, particularly around charging issues and battery health.

Mine is 8 months old, battery health was 93 when i bought it, today its jumping around 91-89 currently 91.35 . Never let your phone discharge below 20 as it is seen happening...
I have my phone since 22th Nov 2017, so, it is almost 1 year old, and the battery behaves exactly as day one, obviously it must have aged, but, I have never let it drop below 15%, only on rare ocasions I have charged it to 100%, and, what I consider really very important, I have not used fast charge
I installed accubattery just to check the "battery health" , it reports 92%
Update Nov 19th 2018
Now batt health is 96%
I think it's a serious engineering flaw if it malfunctions when charging under 20%.
I also read that one trick that might work is to use wireless charging AND USB charging at the same time.
Double Crappy Engineering
Been using my N950N since I got mid March and it has been working like a dream. Touch keyboard that I won't experience this issue.
No issue had mine a year

How long does your battery last?

I bought the phone in September 2017. The battery used to last entire day but has been draining really fast recently. I hardly get 4 hours with a full charge and continuous use either browsing or watching videos.
Is this normal after two years? Do i replace the battery?

it's time to replace battery
I get barely 2-3 hours of browsing/spotify these days, on low brightness. Something is draining my battery like crazy since a few days. All was fine 2 weeks ago, but I changed nothing and suddenly it started draining really fast.

[OneUI 2.1] How big is the battery life improvement for you?

Although to a certain extent, we even came to doubt that Samsung would update the Galaxy S9 and Note 9 devices with the OneUI 2.1, it is finally here, and it cames with Deep Sleep Apps feature, which will allow to actually suspend all services and processes associated with an app.
This has resulted in a relatively big battery life improvement when the device is on standby with S10 and S20 devices in controlled tests1.
Galaxy S9, S9+ and Note 9 are devices released more than 2 years ago, and surely the battery stamina is not the same as they were in their first months of use. Samsung stats that the batteries used on these devices should keep a decent stamina for 2 years with the average user.
Some people have used their phones with battery care measures1, in order to extend battery life.
So, with the recent release of OneUI 2.1 for Samsung Galaxy Note 9, the battery life with the device in standby is expected to be longer (but not the screen on time), although the magnitude is yet to be determined in the coming days.
This thread is aimed to share our opinions on the subject, as the update becomes available and we can evaluate the battery life.

IOS uses a choise in his battery settings to charge the battery up to 80 % of it's capacity and then charging will stop to improve the battery's durability.
It's known that standing in battery's 20/80% capacity increases its life and durability and doing this you can charge how many times you want because one parzial charge will not be counted as an whole cycle of charge so the battery might last more than 3 years going on like this.
This choice is not implemented in Android even with one UI 2.1 and it's a shame even if the new feature will improve battery's autonomy due to the lower consumption of the apps and even if it's impossible to perfectly be able to stay in it's 20/80 percentage range, there's an app that I found that will avert you when reaching 80 % of its charging capacity so you can disconnect the cable to preserve the battery....

You're right and I keep charging between 30 and 80 but this shouldn't be how the phone charges by default as you said. Many people charge from 15 to 100 and want that extra 40-50% they'll get by doing so. I found that without fast charging it takes 1 hour from 30% to 80% so it's no big deal to look at the clock when you leave the phone on the charger.

Even your right, there are even people that continually from 0%(completely dead) goes to 100% after charging the battery for the whole night... that's why what I said for charging should be a choise (like in IOS) and not a default setting.... strange thing that Android or Samsung didn't consider implementing this choise. Fast charging even worns the battery first... it stresses the battery and it will last less but at least they gave us a choise in using it or not.
Absolutely true! Samsung should have implemented a feature to limit charge at 80%, or implement a Bixby Routine to enable this behavior (for example, when charger is plugged at night)
50% increase in my case. And i used OTA Package to update manually.
From: 4h SoT in 24h
To: 8h SoT in 24/30h
Idle times are impressive.
EDIT: just FYI, i rarely charge up to 100%. So my average case is from 85/90% to 5%. Very rarely do i go for a 100 to 0.
One UI 2.1 improvements are all courtesy of the Deep Sleep feature.
I've added everything i barely use or dont need to create wake-ups on the Deep Sleep list. On the normal sleep list, i have low priority things like Play store, etc. And i make sure i white list everything i need untouched (Messenger, WhatsApp, etc) and also do the same thing on the Memory management. Solid results.
Edit: 100% to 1%. 10h SoT with a 30h cycle. It's like getting better and better.
My tab a 2019 has the 80 percent feature and I do not understand why they wont offer the simple setting actually I do because phones they want you to replace the phone instead of the battery in 2 years. I run my note 9 from however low to 100 every night but only because I dont have the option these newer android 9 then 10 now 2.1 adding more and more apps into the firmware but wont add a simple little feature as this. Also I would like to be able to choose if I want to do ota with my data! But I cant.
For me One UI 2.0 was already worst with about 3 to 3.5 hrs of screen on time. Now with 2.1 i barely get close to 2 hrs of SoT. My note 9 is running stock since i bought it at launch and have never done any factory reset. Only thing i do is wipe the cache after a upgrade.

Bro you need to factory reset and start fresh and if that doesn't help something is wrong with your battery I get 9 SOT all the time with 10 2.0 with android 9 it was about 6 SOT, I haven't received 2.1 yet. I have us unlocked version.

You have a snapdragon variant which is anyway much better than exynos variant (my phone) for battery backup.
Sent from my SM-N960F using Tapatalk
Stop saying Exynos is not good for battery life. I can easily get 8h SOT of regular usage on my SM-N960F running OneUI 2.1. Obviously I don't play games like Asphalt 9, etc but I never use power saving modes and never limit myself in order to save battery life. I play 8 Ball Pool when I want to, I watch YouTube for as long as I want to, I browse Instagram and use Samsung Internet Beta when I feel like it. Not once have I ended up in a dire need to recharge when I was outside or when I needed to use the phone. Also the phone charges 50% for 1h (I charge between 30 and 80%) so I just leave it charge while having dinner, watching TV or something like that - when I normally wouldn't use the phone anyway.
On my N9 seems battery life abit improve from previous 2.0. Sammy did great job this time.
Here is my screenshot to prove it.
It takes time to see improvement in your device's battery life after installing OneUI2.1. As the software AI needs to learn all your habits again before any improvement in battery life will occur. This process should take a few weeks
