What is your experience with alternate launcher

I've tried apex and nova launcher. Both runs very smooth compared to original Motorola launcher.
But after while the system went back to original launcher. I don't know why. Maybe it's running out of memory.
What is your experience with alternate launcher.?

I flick between Holo Launcher HD and Nova for months as I can never decide which one I like more.
Been using Holo a lot more for the last few weeks and had no problems with it ever going back to the original launcher. I think Holo is better due to the extra options of being able to set swipe up and down shortcuts on the apps on the dock and it seems to be a lot smoother when using Holo Locker (which is a better alternative lock screen to the one that came with the phone as you can stop the annoying vibrate noise as well as choosing which apps you want as the shortcuts)

Do I need root to install alternative Launcher?

Nope, just install from the play store like any other app then press the home button and when it asks you which launcher you want to use you can select the new launcher (on this options screen you can tick the default tick box to make it the default all the time then you'll never see the default one)

i have the xperia launcher, works fine in my razr, very smooth but now im using the stock jelly bean launcher (have ics)

I've been using a port of the Sony Xperia T launcher. When the phone asked which launcher to return to, I selected the Xperia launcher permenantly. It works just fine, I haven't had any issues at all.

I've tried apex too.
Like it, very customisable and powerful.

i use nova launcher. like it because it's smooth fast and not ram hungry (and offers good customisation in grid and icon size).

WP8: fast, no lags; all the advantages of Win8 without the horror of Microsoft experience.. only thing I miss is the moto circle widget.. :-\

Is there any launcher where the circles widgets works? I'm using nova launched and it doesn't work and I miss them!

As far as I know, NO third party launchers supported - really a shame, most beautiful widget I've ever seen.

Funny you should say that. I keep coming back to the moto launcher, despite all its shortcomings, because of the moto circle widget... And I have never cared for a manufacturer homescreen widget before, but this one is really well made.
If someone ever managed to make it work with any launcher, I would switch without hesitation to Lightning Launcher.
Of course, another possibility is to mod the moto launcher and improve it; here is what I would like to see:
* reclaim the space at the top used by the search widget
* configurable number of rows/columns, or in combination with the above mod, increase from 4 to 5 rows
* lockable layout
* custom icons
* custom folders (iphone, or simi folder style)
* vertical paginated app drawer scrolling

There is a very similar widget available in Google Play, I think it was called Circles Widget.

Try rings digital weather clock; I have tried all of them, this one is closest to the Original - but still misses lots of functionality.. :-\

im using Apex, its smooth

I use the Android 4.1 Jelly Bean Launcher, which is in the Google Play and the developer is Tim Hutt. I found it the best stock launcher porting right now.

How to change lock screen background

I'm using Nova Launcher. Maybe that's the reason why I can't find the setting to change the lock screen background. Any idea?

Gallery>Select a photo>Three dots on the upper right>Set as...>Lockscreen wallpaper. Hope i helped

Lockscreen background can AFAIK only be changed with stock Launcher.
Make it standard Launcher, change background, then change back to Nova.

I use CM QuickPic gallery app. You can just go to an image and select 'Set as...' > 'Lock screen wallpaper'.

change your wallpaper image you ike to kayguard_wallpaper without extension or upcase, move it to /data/system/user/0
work with all rom i tried

But you have to wipe cache/dalvik after that. Otherwise the old background remains.

Nova keeps crashing with Mate 10 Pro

Hi guys, I would like to use Nova Launcher, but everytime it crashes!
Somebody had success in that?

There's a new update on nova 5.5.1, maybe it can help. it says "Fix FC on huawei devices."

Avoid using any stock widget with it. Nova doesn't like Huawei widgets, or Huawei widgets don't like Nova.

exactly,same with other launches like"v launcher",it crash when using huawei widgets

No Probs with Nova Prime 5.5.1 & Tesla Unread 5.0.8.
Only the "Google Now Companion 1.1" somestimes does not work.

The companion requires a restart of nova after changing settings. It works fine afterwards here

I have the same problem.
Nova keeps crashing.

DON'T add any Huawei stock widgets !!!!! ... It crashes Nova stone dead !!!. I like the Huawei weather widget, but adding it kills Nova (and then you need to uninstall Nova to get it to work again). Adding widgets downloaded from the google play store works fine ... Running mine with Nova quite happily now with a downloaded weather widget and all my custom options.... This must be a free "feature" with EMUI..... woe betide trying to add one of the default Huawei widgets to another launcher....

I had never seen that, I used to install weatherpro windget...I just try now .. it's true Nova crashes, with Apex Launcher Pro it's worst!

Works just fine from day 1. But like everybody mentioned, don't add stock widget. It will automatically revert back to stock launcher. You don't have to uninstall. Just select Nova as default launcher again.

Nova Launcher not working properly on my Mate 10. I tried to create a shortcut activity for "Screen Resolution" because I don't get correct resolutuion on my Android Auto screen in my car, and I need to find a work around to toggle the screen resolution everytime I use GPS.

Yes, if you add any stock weather widget on Nova, it will keep crashing untill you uninstall or clan Nova cache.

I have no issue with the full functionality of Nova launcher on my Huawei Mate 10 pro except for the wallpaper. PLs note that I got my phone in Asia. Only issue that I have is that the wallpaper does fill up the screen completely when I tilt it to a horizontal position. It only fills up half of the screen.

I have no problem with nova, really don't know what to do in your situation
Maybe you should try to update nova?

Have you try with animated wallpaper full screen enabled?

Oreo - widgets don't work on 3rd party Launchers

I just updated to Oreo, and I noticed that Huawei widgets don't work on any 3rd party launcher. "App not installed" pops up whenever I try to use them. Is there a solution for this?

The Huawei clock didn't work on Nougat as well.
The Huawei Health widget works for me on Nova and MS Launcher.

I posted the problem with widgets in another thread. I think there is some aggressive power saving going on. I downgraded to Nougat and my phone is good again.

Attached is what Nova Launcher and Huawei told me thru email. Meh.

I don't like any of Nova Launcher's screen lock methods for unrooted phones. So I'm asking for help on how to enable P10's screen lock widget on 3rd party launchers.

I rooted my phone and disabled huawei widgets. No solution found.

This is really annoying! After Oreo update I can´t use the screen lock widget with nova launcher, but it´s working fine with emui launcher.

Hi all.
Wanted to ask if anyone has been able to install other launchers on the P30 series. It's probably the only reason why I'm still holding back from getting this device. EMUI isn't exactly the benchmark to beat when it comes to UI design and functionality, and I've read before that EMUI 9.0 and above broke alternative launchers like Nova Launcher and Hyperion.
Was anyone able to try installing another launcher and successfully set it as the default launcher app? I also remember an issue before that it kept asking you which launcher app you wanted to use whenever you pressed the home button.

Nova works fine without issues.

Same, also using Nova on my P30. Everything working fine here.

Definitely no issue unlike vivo phones which randomly switches back to their stock launchers. In china however, i read that they blocked launcher change on huawei devices. That was on the 9.0 though.

Nova, Lawnchair Alpha and Hyperion all working fine for me, the only launcher I've tried that causes issues is the Poco Launcher.

As per my previous P9 and Honor V10 i use Nova most of the time but sometimes use Microsoft Launcher for a few weeks every now and then to see how it feels.
I always come back to Nova in the end as it has additional options I use.

Yeah they dont allow launcher change for phones in china. This goes to Vivo and Oppo as well. First and foremost, you must install nova. Next, use ADB to remove the stock launcher but a safer option would be using Package Disabler app to disable the stock launcher. Make sure you already have Nova or another launcher installed before doing this.

Only in the chinese version of Huawei smarphone is avoided to install other launchers. In international firmwares is allowed (I tested Nova, Action, Pixel, Launchair... All worked fine).

Use EVIE Lancher much better then nova for me. You can make good things on it.

mine is microsoft launcher, it's best for me so far

Nova works well, but all alternative Launcher have bugs on using Huawei's own Widgets.
For ex. you can't use the Weather Widget properly without crash when adding your town
The clock works only after changing grid to higher size even there is no need to.

Yup these issues have existed since I had my P9.
It's a shame as I would like to use Huawei built in weather widget but it crashes other launchers so I have to have an extra app.

I know what you're talking about... It was a bug with Mate 20 and EMUI 9.0... But no issues with EMUI 9.1...
