The main reason of this thread, is that I has got a problem with the SO. I followed the rooting guide of DeckerSU, and when I tried to delete/update an app on System, Link2SD, Solid Explorer, and Titanium Backup said me something moreless than "mount: read only filesystem". So, please, help me to fix it (because I don't think that be with the reason of do and restore an TWRP backup to gain my RW system).
PD: Please don't post information, or answers about to do a script and put it on init.d and say it that always I boot should mount it, because I tried EVERY thing that I found on Internet (That I found, if you find anything, please post it, to help me, and to people who want to fix this issue)
PD2: Sorry about my poor english, that's the best english of a teenager of Spain that you'll see

First of all sorry for my english, i'm not a native english speaker.
I'm a new user, but a frequently anonymous visitor.
I finally decided to apply a custom ROM (FroyoMod 2.6.0) to my Milestone.
The problem is the following:
I have noticed that since i installed this particular ROM my /data directory is getting consumed by something.
I have not installed new apps, im just testing it and by some reason since yesterday i have lost more than 5MB.
For example since i started writing this post i have lost 100K more...
Perhaps is a log file that is consuming my /data directory but i can't seem to find the guilty one.
Has anyone experienced this problem?
Thanks in advanced for your help.
Try using busybox and 'find /data -mmin -5' to discover the files that are changing...
Thanks for the info i found that the files that are getting bigger and bigger are those under /data/logger/AOL_*
I'm a linux user, but i'm not sure if this logs files are important, because one solution that comes to my mind is just to empty those logs, i mean they are just logs after all.
I've decided that i will just clean those logs and for that i created a tiny bash script that cleans those logs, so far seems that i'm not losing to much memory.
Dear all,
Firstly I would like to introduce myself because it is my first post here. I read a lot this wonderful forum and you all.
I am a spanish man who owns a Galaxy S i9000 and I am using GingeReal 3.2 room.
Last weekend, after restoring from an "on fligh" state , my phone freezed and I had to reboot it. After that, it has the:
a) /dev/block/stl3 and/or /dev/block/bml3 corrupted and I cannot mount it.
b) By this, the /efs folder is empty and it only works (modem) when I give r/w permissions to root "/" using root explorer.
c) phone: unknown
d) baseband version: unknown
As you can see, "everything is wrong" and I am using the standard IMEI (0049...). Also I have some errors in applications due this (whatsapp, jelly sms, etc.).
I have a nv_data.bin backup but if i write nv_data.bin or .nv_data.bak it's being deleted on every boot.
The only way to fix /efs problem is using "dd" to restore a partition "bml3" and "stl3" file backup but I do not have any friend who owns the same mobile phone.
I do not need any content into these partitions (I do not need the nv_data.bin which contains your own IMEI and MACs) but I would need anyone help me giving me that files (without contain).
It can be done by using "adb shell" or "terminal emulator" and writing:
su
dd if=/dev/bml3 of=/sdcard/bml3.bak
dd if=/dev/block/stl3 of=/sdcard/stl3.bak
Could anyone help me?????
I will than a lot.
Also, does anyone knows if with this I could solve "phone: unknown" and "baseband version: unknown" errors because with any Odin and any modem does not work and also I cannot find a baseband for i9000.
Thanks in advance (at least for reading this long and desperating post).
Also I know that it is not the right section but I am newbe and I do not have 10 posts written.
Thanks again.
Mario
Could anyone help me??
Finally I could solve it thanks to another thread in another forum.
Thanks anyway to everyone who read this post
Sorry I couldn't offer any help, but could you post a link to the thread that helped you for others who may come across your thread?

you just saved my ass -- thank you so much.
Hi, Im Penny and Im from venezuela.
I just got an Galaxy Note, a friend gave it to me, but the problem is it cant accept SIM card.
I have read a lots of guides and stuff, but neither my friend or I have any efs files backup.
In settings there is no Bandbase (unknow), Android version is 2.3.5 and kernel is 2.6.35.7-N7000XXKJ4-CL641703 [email protected] #2
So, i read something about rooting and stuff, I already did, but there IS NO FILES in efs folder. And there is no IMEI neither
when i do *#06#
I tried putting a stock rom, but there still the problem there. I read in a forum a guy that someone gave him some
Galaxy Note efs files, he restore them and it works. So i really dont know what to do.
Can some give me some help and give me efs files and see if I can repair this? I really need this because im planning to selling this (because i need the money).
Thank you and sorry for my pretty bad english.
** Edit: TO THE MODS:
Note: If this post breaches any rules, please remove (I'm learning bout this)
I am having the same problem. If anyone have the /efs files, please send to me as well.
** I am able to use the hex editor, only will change it back to my original IMEI, not going to use other people IMEI.
TO THE MODS:
Note: If this post breaches any rules, please remove my post as well. tq..
No one in the right mind is going to upload their efs folder containing their imei and serials and addresses
It is possible to change imei but I suggest you don't do it as it is highly illegal and carries a prison sentence, but if you try then start with a hex editor and look inside the nv_data.bin - if you can edit it only edit it to your original imei or that's where you run the risk of being bummed by some big steroid infested guy in the showers.

If this post breaches any rules then please remove it asap

Exactly what azzledazzle said.. Read that post thoroughly, the one he linked and try if it works for you. The EFS folder contains highly sensitive data, the very reason I couldn't send you the file! Hope you get it..
Try if it works for you..
Hi All,
like many of the users I have a problem with missing /efs folder. Although I can't find it I have my IMEI and my phone (S5830) works fine. I can make and receive calls.
But let's start from the beginning. I had Android in 2.3.3 version.
Using this post http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1034145 I have upgraded it to 2.3.6.
I have also rooted it using universal_gb_root_v25.zip.
Now I wanted to play with it a little more so I though of doing backup. Previously I made one using CWM but I read that it doesn't backup /efs folder that stores IMEI and other important data. So I started searching through the forum for a solution. I've downloaded EFS Professional but for some reason it gives me error "An error occured while getting partition list!" when I select my phone from the drop-down list on the backup tab. I cannot do backup because the "Device Partitions" window is empty.
I did not give up and searched the forum a little more. So I've downloaded two apps: ES File Explorer and Root Explorer. Unfortunately both could not locate /efs folder. All the Linux folders were there except /efs. There's dev and next is etc. No efs.
So I though that maybe the folder was hidden but the I checked the options of Root Explorer to show hidden files.
Lastly I checked the method with adb shell and busybox like below:
adb shell
su
tar zcvf /sdcard/efs-backup.tar.gz /efs
but as I though I got the message that /efs folder could not be found.
Has anyone have an idea how to get to /efs folder in my case? Where does my phone keep IMEI? How to backup (and restore) my phone in this scenario? Is there any other way to backup the most important files?
I know there are lot of questions but I'd appreciate helping me with it. Thanks in advance.

its difficult to find the efs folder bt u can check ur IMEI number by this code *#06#.
you can backup efs files by efs professional tool.
a CWM backup is also safe as it includes most of important files.
hit thanx if helped.

Thanks for the one above. From this post I read that SGA does not have /efs (folder/partition) or it is not mounted by default so I can't see it. Which one is the right answer? It does not exists or it is not mounted?
If doesn't exists then where should I look for IMEI data and all other critical stuff?
If it exists I could issue:
mount -r -t ext4 /dev/block/mmcblk0p3 /efs
-r not to make any changes. I would have to create /efs folder first using: adb shell mkdir /efs
Am I following the right path?
I'd have already tried that but don't want to screw up my phone. Thanks in advance for any suggestions.

Thanks for the suggestion however this doesn't bring any useful information to this topic. I already know to be very careful with EFS data.
I would like to get some answers about configuration of this data on SGA. I would like to know whether there is a way to back it up That's all

I think it's useful...anyway It's really simple, FORGET TO BACKUP YOUR EFS FOLDER OR YOU'LL BRICK YOUR PHONE!!
First... the question is why would you wanna backup your IMEI ? You needn't even write it down as a backup if you have the bill of your phone. And in case if you ever lost the IMEI, there is a guide to restore it & you can restore your older IMEI. So why worry to backup ?
Sent from my GT-S5830 using xda premium
I wrote the IMEI down just as a precaution. I didn't know it was on the bill as to be honest the phone used to belong to my wife. I know there are several threads about restoring IMEI and other necessary data. I have already viewed them.
The reason I put this thread was that I was unable to locate the famous efs folder. I'm new in this stuff but I'm also a quick learner. After going through several threads and articles I was curious why I could not locate efs folder on my SGA. Answers such as "don't look for it or you will damage your phone" are just simply not what I was looking for. Anyway if someone please explain me the technical details of this phone and the reason why I can't make a backup using several tools and methods I would be very grateful.
Your quest for the efs folder is unending. I appreciate your effort in learning new things but what's the point of finding something that's of no practical use ? Yeah, you can't find the efs folder & no one else has ever worried about it coz everyone knows how to get their phone back online when they lose their IMEI. So either backing it up or looking for it is not worth a penny . All that counts is that the phone works & that the IMEI is secured, be it without that folder of your interest. If you clearly state your intentions with what you have to do by backing it up, someone might be able to help.

Hi I am have just joined the forum searching for a help. It was my first time flashing custom roms and had been at fault in technically missing some of the instruction. I have failed to backup any bin, img or efs folder which could help me fix IMEI. using MTK droid tool (for MT6589), I am receiving an error of missing pttycmd1 and even searching the root of my phone, I can't find any nv_ram or efs. Is there any other way to fix my device?
Baseband: Unknown
No IMEI
cannot use AT+egmr command
thanks for the reply.
efs ?
efs is a partition for sim unlock right ?
i do hope so, because I just read from other threads about exploring and backup of efs can fix baseband & imei.
I can't find my efs either. The issue I'm having is to get rid of Factory Mode. Have seen tutorials on how to do it, but the efs file is missing and so I can't actually do it. Any suggestions on how to fix these issues? Thanks
Hi everybody,
hopefully someone here can answer a few questions for me.
I have a Samsung Galaxy 3 mini.
android version 4.4.2
kernel version 3.4.0-1670137
baseband version g730aucubng4
my service provider is AT&T
what I want to do is pretty simple, or so I thought.
I read this article ( https://www.androidpit.com/galaxy-s3-note2-memory-bump) about swapping your phone's internal and external storage so the thing doesn't get so full of apps etc. it runs like crap.
I thought "hey, I haven't rooted my phone yet for fear of loosing stuff, but it's old and slow and if it's that easy, why not"
I rooted it using kingo-root, but decided to use o-nandroid backup to create a backup before I did anything. I fallowed these instructions (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1620255/) but during the process of flashing the zip file I got a failure message and managed to wipe my memory loosing everything that wasn't on the external sd card.
anyway, to make a long story short, after 4 days of messing with different apps and trying, unsuccessfully, to do various tasks (mainly dealing with creating backups. using twrp, cwm, titanium backup) I think I've discovered the problem.
contrary to what I had read, my android device's boot-loader was not unlocked, or in fact unlockable.
I finally managed to create a backup using Safestrap. but now to my question.
with my bootloader locked, and working through Safestrap, is it possible to use something like the 11extsd2internalsd file from that first article to swap my two hard drives? or am I stuck, since I can't install new kirnels?
--now, someone is bound to say "hey, you should have searched xyz, there is a thread there about this exact thing". I thought I'd respond to that now and save them the trouble. I have spent the past 5 hours searching, googleing, and reading articles about this. so far, I have learned a lot, but I'm tired and quite frustrated with the whole endeavor.
so I thought I would try asking the experts if it's even possible to do what I originally wanted to do, or if I should just delete all these apps, unroot my phone and go back to deleting my pictures and text messages every other day to save space.
Thanks for having the patiance to read through my tale of woes, hopefully someone will be able to help me out and answer my question.
JM
You can swap internal storage with external SD by editing fstab.<device_name>.
Look, here is this file for my phone (yours will be little different) https://github.com/TeamCanjica/andr...dina/blob/cm-11.0/rootdir/fstab.samsungcodina
Just swap in places this code "voldmanaged=sdcard0"/"voldmanaged=sdcard1"
This file you can edit only after unpacking and repacking boot.img (you need to get ramdisk filesystem, more info and how to http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2036528).
For flashing boot.img (kernel) after making changes, your device must be rooted (minimum this) or have custom recovery which will let you flash zip package.
As I know, last step is to edit from /system/etc/permissions/platform.xml one line (more info http://trendblog.net/fix-kitkat-sd-card-write-restriction/ )
