All versions of XZ1C can get root, right? - Sony Xperia XZ1 Compact Questions & Answers

I'm going to buy a new phone and I need root for some of my apps. Just to double check, all versions of XZ1 Compact can get root, right? Or are there some versions that can't without breaking things like camera? I ask cuz I know with other phones, depending on the processor you end up with you can't unlock bootloader meaning root isn't possible.

Samsung Pay SM-9208, Rooting & Flashing ROM

Purchased Note 5 gold on eBay from US seller. Turns out the phone was from Taiwan. This before I knew about model numbers and I thought that the bands were all I needed to think about to make sure it would work in southern VT US with AT&T. Obviously, came to find out Samsung has regional model numbers.
I love the 9208 for many reasons: unlocked, no AT&T bloatware, and a few other things that just seem to make it a better phone. However, no Samsung Pay and I can't register the phone on Samsung in the US. I don't care about the registering, but I REALLY want Samsung Pay. So, my question....
1. Can I root the phone and get Samsung Pay? I read somewhere that rooting "kicks off Knox" which is apparently bad (I have no idea what that means). Does that mean that I can root and still can't get SP? Also, if I root, what do I lose and what do I gain?
2. Flashing roms. I used to do this in the old days, but spent a few mindless years with iphone (for my husband and daughter) so I am starting over and consider myself a noob. So, can I flash a rom to get SP? Do I flash, then root? Does flashing automatically mean I am rooted? Or do I root first, then flash, then do I get SP? Finally, what do I lose flashing and what do I gain?
3. Lastly, does anyone know if and when the Taiwan model 9208 will get SP from Samsung?
Sorry for all the questions - thought I would get it all in one post! Thanks so much for any help and advice. Oh, and before anyone lectures me for buying non-US model just to get a color or something, please refrain! I already know I should have realized Samsung had regional models - my stupid mistake!
Welcome to the club!
I got the Singapore 920i version 1 for the Gold and 2 for the 64gb !
In answer of your questions. ..
1. No. Root is incompatible with SP.
But I think Android pay can work with Dr. KETAN'S rom and his kernel
Haven't tried it out yet but at least it let me install. SP wouldn't even allow install.
2. Flashing as of now will help no effect on SP. But there are some Roms out there that improve battery life and have mods..I'm on the latest Dr. Ketan 4.1
3. Unknown.
As to if the version you bought will be compatible with your carrier you can check on http://www.willmyphonework.net/
Compare your model with the 920a for at&t
Oh and enjoy ?

Samsung Note 8 ROOT on Snapdragon update?

I know there's a root method out already, but I prefer to hold off given the potential limitations (especially the battery 80% issue).
Based on your experience, do you think there will be a better root method coming out soon?
Thanks!

because it requires a unlocked bootloader, not a engineering bootloader.
If the S8\s8+ doesn't get it, we def ain't gonna get it for Snapdragon users.

Are you asking if someone has a crystal ball and can tell you the future development of the phone? Maybe they can give me winning lottery ticket numbers.

What that means is no one has been able to find a workaround (engineering or otherwise) or not smart enough to figure it out yet and they're not clairvoyant enough to know if anyone can in the future. But I think it's a great question that I had actually been wondering myself.

Soon? absolutely not. I recommend backing up your stuff using samsung cloud and trying the root to see how it affects you. Exynos has a Unlocked BL HOWEVER it does not work on CDMA carriers.

thanks for all the responses. very much appreciated.
i'm on Tmobile, so maybe i should get the exynos version if that root works better?
also, which phone/brand is easy to root?

if you get exynos there's a chance you'll have the issue where you have to wait 7 days to unlock your bootloader, you can get the korean version which comes unlocked out of box.
If you're not looking to deal with this kind of risk then go for pixel line, one plus 5\5t when it comes out, not sure what else really, the essential phone should have unlocked bootloader and roms soon as they've promised to release the source code and image files.
I have Note 8 snapdragon SM-N9500 unlocked from Hong Kong and I need TWRP for root but it is not out yet for Snapdragon AGH! waiting.. till 2018

You can compile twrp for your device yourself....and if successfully...and they feel it works they will make it official...check out their site...Google compile twrp
I got an SM-N950U about a week ago but have have not unboxed it yet.
I'm sure there have been OTA updates being pushed out.
What build(s) can been rooted?

Here with the model N9500 you can unlock the bootloader and flash TWRP and root with magisk

Switching from Google Pixel to S10E

Moving from the Googl ePixel to the S10 E and have a few questions
I will be running the Canadian variant with has the snap dragon chipset , are the roms compatible with it and which twrp do i use?
Also is there a debloating guide?
No root for that variant yet as it has a locked bootloader from what elliwigy here in the forums has said.

hmm Just found this in regards to TWRp which means boot loader can be unlocked https://twrp.me/samsung/samsunggalaxyS10Eqcom.html
I am willing to bet that's for the Hong Kong variant which is also snapdragon and can be bootloader unlocked.
You might wanna talk to @elliwigy about it, he's the guy that made root possible for the note 9. Here's a thread he participated in about rooting the Canadian variant.

Thanks still going to take some getting used to being neutered or kneecapped  But here is hoping we get an unlock in the future
Not having root isn't so bad, although I do miss it. I have the Galaxy S10+ 975U model on the AT&T firmware. Most bloat can be disabled or uninstalled. You can also use the app CCSWE app manager to freeze apps like the dreaded forced automatic updates.

The snapdragon s9 got rooted recently but its that half assed root with 80% battery and i don't believe it has twrp or anything like that. Bootloader is still locked.

wait if you want root you have to sacrifice your battery? wtf
I forgot the details but i think you're basically installing some engineering firmware which has 20% of the battery disabled, so its not regular firmware but you do have root if you want. There's really no other option on american snapdragon phones, they're fully locked down, the chinese ones are unlocked but don't think they support all the lte bands.
If you want root get the international version, its easily rootable.

I fail to understand why the NA version would have its boot loader locked down and not be unlocked like the international version

Not sure what you variant is (japan?)
I have a xqat52 HK international dual Sim.
And successfully flashed xq-at51 UK on it.
Before flashing UK rom I could not access 5G in UK.
However you need to know I had many issues after with Google and play store device not certified.
Since it was altered, still official rom, but once you flash anything different to your original rom, you will have issues.
Be prepared to Google loads, and find out it is worth it for you.
You will need to read about possibly rooting it, so you can enjoy your device in the region you want with the features you want.
Remember unlocking bootloader, you will loose your drm. I was not too bothered about it.

I converted my 1ii from HK to UK successfully.
With the latest build
58.1.A.5.507
Using flasher
It is possible, but read carefully everything and do your research 1st. You will need some knowledge on using adb / flasher / fastboot / android Kitchen / Magisk / etc..
Unlock your bootloader too. (if you want root and not have Google issues after)
You need to check if your handset can have the bootloader unlocked, as from what I read not all handsets have this option enabled...
There is a Sony webpage (Google) that tells you whether you can do that or not....
Make sure you understand the risks and have the knowledge to do it all, as bootloops looks like a norm on forums after flashing....

Xz1 compact docomo stock rom

Hello fellas.
I just bought SO-02K ntt docomo version, but there are lot of bloatware (japanese providers app) can't be removed. Is it possible to get rid off them all without root?
Is it safe to flash it with global ROM/non-japan ROM?
Many great thanks.
ADB AppControl or MobyDroid.
Other than that there's a rootless debloating solution for XZ1C, but it appears to be for G8441 models only... wouldn't try it on SO-02K, not without asking in the thread if that's safe anyway. I would also guess it requires an unlocked bootloader, which tends to be a problem for SO-02K models. They often come with a hardlocked bootloader to open which the only solutions known to me are paid, e.g. this $30 method. If you can sort that part out, there are decent debloated custom ROMs compatible with SO-02K such as HavocOS or ported LineageOS, which don't require root. Users have had success flashing them.
