Can I go back??? Downgrade? - Samsung Galaxy Note 8 Questions and Answers

Hi there, am on the latest light ROM, but I must be the only person who doesn't like Oreo or pie for that matter....
I was a happy chap on nougat. And it seems quite a few other do, but I want to go back to nougat....I know you can only go so far back because of bootloader, but can recall somewhere that you can only go back to a specific bootloader file, anybody know what that is? I just loved the simplicity of lineage or resurrection remix, and want to see if there is versions available?
Thank you!!!

The answer to this question has been answered many times over on xda developers alone so a little search from the top right corner will give you many answers and teach you your bootloader version!

No, you can not roll back to anything with a lower bootloader version, in my case I am happy using 7.1.1

I heard so many times you can't go back but I've done it many times on various versions.
Haven't tried one this device and these versions, but if you're not a total newb it won't hurt to try.

CyanogenMod

Hello Everyone, I am new around here.
So about a week ago I got my first ever Android phone (after spending years on iOS) I am extremely happy with the Sony Xperia Z1, it just blows iPhones and iOS away, Let me get to the point haha.
I have done a long and painful process of:
1. Flashing Old Firmware.
2. Rooting.
3. Updating again.
4. Unlocking Bootloader.
So I'm at stage 5 now, I would like to install CyanogenMod. On the site it says C6902 But I have a C6903, will this make a difference? and if so are their any better alternatives to CyanogenMod?
Since I am inexperienced in all this Android and rooting etc (Long time iOS Jailbreak User) I would appreciate if somebody could point me in the right direction on where to go from here. I don't want to brick my shiny new device but I also want to give the device some customization.
Many thanks, I hope everyone had a great Christmas.
Happy new year!
I found out you can install CM on C6903 but a lot of things are broken, the Camera is broken on all levels, but C6903 is supported.
Also try and use the search button for answers, I only recently asked the same question about 8 hours ago.

If you're still having problems reply here. I see you bricked your phone, sorry about that! Always take caution when cross flashing, etc. Did you back up everything to an SD card?

I'm trying again now, I fixed the brick by using Flashtool
So now I need to figure out where to get rom.zip and gapps.zip also where would I put them before attempting to flash the cyanogen boot loader again?
Cheers

Good, you know I wouldn't try and get CM on C6903... even though people say it's possible, the issues with it are many. I personally haven't seen anyone put CM on a C6903 device yet... and like I said, the amount of problems with it wouldn't make it fun.
What are you looking for that's so special about CM?

I am enthusiastic about trying something new, Basically I have never tried CyanogenMod before so I would like to chance it and if things go too wrong then I will flash back using Flashtool.
Also Its nice to know this so once the CM becomes more stable I can install it again in the future.
Sorry if im a nuisance, I really appreciate the help

Nearly all development for the Honami goes into CM11, which hasn't been graduated to nightlies just yet, meaning that there are no up-to-date builds available at the moment, FXP252 was supposed to be the first release of Honami CM11, but it wasn't deemed ready for it at this stage.

[VS980] What do i need for custom ROMs?

Hello, i was looking to flash ROMs on my VS980 but i don't know what bootstack, bootloader, kernel etc i am using, my phone was pre-rooted so i don't know the method used to root it (if it matters).
Here is how far i have gone--
--I am rooted.
--I don't know if i am having a stock ROM, it looks like stock but it was pre-rooted (i got this phone second hand)
--I used AutoRec to install TWRP
--I then flashed Blastagator's f2fs TWRP. (But i didn't get the cm-13 kernel (???) any reason?)
Can you tell me what am i having? How to find out which bootloader and bootstack and kernel i'm using?
I will flash AOSP ROM's only, it will help greatly to know what do i have and what do i need.
ROMs i have shortlisted--
Android Nougat | AOSP
--crDroid
--Paranoid Android
--Resurrection Remix M
Android M | AOSP
--Exodus ROM
--Dirty Unicorns
A pic of my s/w info..

Get the kernels, bootstacks for A models only (Your model is an A model), be smart, not stupid, follow all directions on the threads, even if they seem pointless I've learned with the G series sometimes pointless sh*t fixes everything LOL.

Well, thanks for the reply (really, i didn't knew that there was classification like "A" etc).
Soon after this post i decided on a ROM first (CrDroid), then read all the instructions and related subtopics and threads and then it was time to walk the walk, i did it and it worked in the first try! And in the process i learned a thing or two and helped 2 other people! And CrDroid is an excellent ROM. :good:

Sweet!!!! Yes I just recently learned the differences between the 11B/12A type references & those were the only things I had yet to understand . CrDroid is great I love AiCP myself hehe .

What ROM is everyone using?

What's you favorite ROM?
I haven't found an 8.1 rom that has no problems yet. I went to go back to a 7.1 rom but my phone gives me error 7 code now. It won't let me go back wards from a 8.1 to a lower number.
I remember being more than warned about the antirollback feature . its in the hardware .
i dont know if you could use one of the unbrick guides to revert back. havent messed with my g4 since 2 yrs ago, no roms for it then.
Fashed back with no problem.
I flashed back to a older version after editing a installation file to get rid of a line that checks for what version I am currently using. I installed crdroid. Having some problems with the calling feature. I can't hang up. No big deal there are nice people helping me work things out. If I ever do find a solid rom, hopefully an 8.xx rom I will post here. But I now have a LG G7 Thin Q. But for fun I am going to keep messing around with my G4.
If any one has found a solid rom for 8.xx please share you info. Greatly apreciate it.

Flash AndroidOne ROM on other model

Hi everyone! I have XT1900-7 model (4gb and 64gb), one person here on XDA told me he turned his model into android one model flashing this firmware https://androidfilehost.com/?fid=962157660013070030 with these files with script https://drive.google.com/file/d/1PCQwxaEDHZxBG_FwNWA0ozxfRumI31zd/view.
Just to be sure (no oreo update yet on my model and nothing said by lenovo), anyone else tried it? Future OTA updates?
Hey Giammarcoperiphery,
A very big thank you I searched for something like this quite a time and didn't find anything. As it's my debut on Motorola I just tried it (yeah I know all the risks but best way to learn) and yes, it worked perfect. Everything's fine now, with Oreo and Android One bootscreen.
I don't know if it gets further updates but afaik there's no reason it should not. Just typing this reply because I hope some experienced user will inform us when he sees there's activity on this Thread.
However, can you post a link where this topic was discussed/where you get the information? Thank you

Great! Is your model 1900-7 and 4/64 too? I think I'll try tomorrow
No it's 3/32, only version in germany. But should not matter it's same software.
By the way, didn't get any notification for January-Security-Patch-update yet. I think it won't arrive because it's still reteu update channel.
However, Moto-Firmware-Team will certainly update the next Rom/OTA soon.

Mi 8 custom ROMs, Kernels etc.

So... Hello there people of the internet :silly:
I am totally new to all these Custom ROMs, Kernels and whatever the heck else is out there as well, which is why i´m extremely confused about the possibilities i might have.
Long story short: I am absolutely dissatisfied with MIUI so far although European laws affect my device. The amounts of trackers my PiHole blocks is just redicolous.
This is why I am in desperate need of assistance: I never had the urge to change my ROM on my old phones so far but MIUI drives me crazy.
Which custom ROM would you recommend to me? I´ve done some digging and came across Resurrection Remix, LineageOS, Pixel Experience and HavocOS but I am open for everything as long as it works.
Obviously I´d like some sort of privacy protection and interesting features.
As I´d describe myself as somebody who´s absolutely no idea about ROMs and all that (I´ve no clue why I should use another kernel but why not?) i am in desperate need of your assistance.
What is the most stable, beginner friendly ROM for my Mi8 out there? Do I have to keep an eye out for anything specific? And most importantly: How can I switch my ROM properly without risking the so called "hard brick"? (It sounds bad but ive no clue what the difference to a softbrick is. I mean: Brick is brick ) I also came across a Anti-Rollback. What do I have to look out for?
All in all
Please Help
Thank you very much in advance.

I'd suggest you to try Pixel Experience. You first need to unlock your bootloader, then flash TWRP and then flash the ROM. You won't risk any bricks if you follow the tutorials. If you want help feel free to DM me.
