Google Fi - compatible devices: - Sprint Samsung Galaxy Note 8 Questions & Answers

I guess you guys may have seen recently that Google has made it's Project Fi (Google Fi) available to more phones. If you go to their website, the Note-8 is a compatible device, with the exception of seamlessly switching to different networks depending on the signal/reception area. My question, how will that work for us? Would we see a "no-signal" message and manually switch another network every time we get off the current one?

Google fi - Does it offer VoLTE?

I'm planning to switch from Verizon to Project Fi (after I receive my invite from Google) and I have a question regarding Voice over LTE (VoLTE).
Is it enabled to work with Project Fi? I remember having to do some setting changes to get it to work with Verizon. I even had to enable a setting on my Verizon account (not on the phone, but by going to my verizon online account setting in web browser). I believe it was Advanced Calling.
I'm wondering if I need to do anything special to enable VoLTE after I switch to Project Fi.
*VoLTE basically permits talking on the phone while simultaneously use data over LTE (ie, using hotspot while talking on phone). Verizon is CDMA and this was important feature. Without VoLTE I would lose my data connection when placing a phone call.
Thanks

well, tmobile uses volte while sprint does not.
When ur on TMo, yes. When ur on Sprint , no
Thank you. Forgive my ignorance if this is common knowledge, but does Project Fi allow controlled switching between t-mobile and sprint? In other words, can I force the N6 to use TMo before I turn on my hotspot? Or is it always just the stronger tower as to which provider is used (will I have no control in deciding)?
Often times I can't afford to lose my data connection using hotspot while in a voice call.
This may be a deciding factor if I should choose Project Fi or stick with my current provider.
Thanks

Xperias and Google Fi

Xperias are not supported by Google Fi at this time.
I saw this article about it:
https://www.xda-developers.com/project-fi-samsung-oneplus-lg-moto-iphones/
... and am still a bit puzzled by what constitutes a "supported phone." One thing the article mentioned was needing support for VoLTE on T-Mobile, which we know the big XZ2 is not.
Is anyone clear on this and what the XZ2 is missing?
Edit: check Google's own support page on Fi, it gives some more info. Apparently LTE Bands 2 & 4 are needed, as well as CDMA support for full Fi network switching compatibility (i.e. Sprint). https://support.google.com/fi/answer/6224695?hl=en

Unlocked S10--any features lost on Google Fi

I have tried to read through the threads already in place about the unlocked vs carrier versions of the S10 but haven't found the answer to my question. If I've missed it, I apologize.
I'm currently on Google Fi and I pre-ordered the unlocked S10 from Samsung. I'm trying to confirm if I'm going to lose any features on this unlocked version vs if I had gone with a carrier version. I was planning on swapping it with my Pixel 2XL on my Google Fi service but I'm wondering if I'll lose any features over getting a carrier loaded version. I'm thinking of things like wifi calling or other things. My current Pixel 2 is also using an e-sim so will that be an issue?
I had gone as far as wondering if loading a T-mobile sim on when it first boots would be necessary (for the feature enabling) and then moving it over to my Fi account. I'm also not really a firmware flashing expert so maybe I'm overthinking this. I'd love your input.
Unlocked S10 will work fine on Google Fi.
However, given that the phone is "Compatible with Fi" and not "Designed for Fi", you won't have access to the network switching feature, limited Wifi Calling, no Fi VPN security, and RCS only through Android Messages.
What do you mean by limited wifi calling? It is the feature I am most interested in.

Google Fi Compatiblity

I'm considering the G7+ and using on the Google Fi network, but before I decide I am interested if there are any users here who using the Fi network. On the Goggle Fi compatibility page the results indicate that it is still being tested. And that the "Switch among networks for an even more reliable connection, secure your data with a Fi VPN, and more" is either not tested or not compatible. I understand that the G7+ is unlocked for international use and that there are a few bands not supported in the United States.

Unlocking LTE bands on a US Cellular LM-V405UA that is now on Google Fi?

TL;DR: USCC -> AT&T -> Google Fi -- Any way to get 4G/LTE on these carriers?
Hey all,
I haven't been very involved in the rooting/flashing/whatever scene since the Gingerbread-KitKat days, so my apologies for what might be a noob question, or if it even is the right question to ask.
A bit over a year ago, I switched from US Cellular to AT&T and brought my V40 with me. Despite some IMEI issues (was only 14 digits instead of 15, which messed with some online forms), I eventually managed to get it transferred. However, there was one big issue: I was only getting 3G/HSPA+ service. I imagine this would've been a deal breaker for most, but since I only really use my phone data for music streaming and Google Maps when I'm driving, it wasn't that big of a deal for me.
Then, recently, I switched to Google Fi to save money. I knew that the V40 didn't support the fancy carrier-switching stuff, but I didn't care as long as I had some sort of service. The same problem still persists, however: I only have 3G/HSPA+ service.
When I briefly looked into this last year, I remember seeing something about flashing some firmware that'd unlock the non-USCC LTE bands, but I'm not sure if this was valid (could be misremembering). Would flashing some sort of firmware on my phone allow me to have 4G again, and if so, what would I flash? The generic US unlocked firmware?
Also, not sure if this matters, but GSMArena and LG's own website both seem to state that the US Cellular's V40 model is the LM-V405UA0, but my model number according to Settings is LM-V405UA (no zero at the end). My phone worked fine on US Cellular, so I'm not sure what difference there is between the two models, if any.
edit:
Messing around with my phone settings, I was actually able to force a 4G LTE signal from T-Mobile (Google Fi's primary network iirc) under Settings > Network & internet > Mobile networks > System select and flipping the Network mode option between "Global" and "LTE/GSM/UMTS". Going from the latter to the former will switch me to 4G/LTE from 3G/HSPA+, but going in the opposite direction keeps me on 4G. To revert, I have to go further into the GSM/UMTS settings and select "UMTS/HSPA/HSPA+ only" in the Network submode option.
Both the 3G and 4G options had about the same (slow) network speed of 2mbps down, and according to Signal Spy, the LTE was probably using band 4 (it had a question mark beside it, implying it wasn't very certain). I don't know if it's a band issue or a location issue, but since I'm on WiFi most of the time nowadays, I'm not that pressed about it... maybe I'll back things up and flash the US Unlocked firmware as a weekend project sometime.
