I need help, please. - Moto X4 Questions & Answers

I can not go back to the stock rom, I get the error (invalid partition name --a)
My bootloader is unlocked, I made a mistake when trying to install custom rom, I am in lineage, but I can not go back to stock, via fastboot, for this error (invalid partition name --a, if I try on b, the same error appears - -B )
Any solution please

[EMERGENCY] Unable to install anything from recovery as well as from miflash tool.

My current situation:
->twrp installed
->everything formatted!(sdcard,data etc)
->unable to mount /system error in both cwm/twrp
-> No OS installed
->stock partition
->unable to flash any ROM, yes any custom ROM out there(from sideload or from sdcard) with this error "failed to mount /dev/block/platform/msm_sdcc.1/by-name/system at /system No such file or directory
unmount of /system failed; no such volume"
->Unable to flash MI roms through miflash because of unspecified error (0xffffff01)!
-> hope from you guys.
My mi3 was running on lollipop ivan ROM. everything was ok. I thought lets flash mokee. after flashing mokee and using it for few days(With no gapps, unable to flash) I reverted back to ivan AOSP from my old backup(thank god!).
Crysis started after this point.
I extended the partition from this guid->http://forum.xda-developers.com/xiaomi-mi-3/general/howto-resize-extend-partition-capacity-t3011918
It was successfull. But whenever I tried to flash any rom , it gave me the error mentioned above(failed to mount /dev/block/...)
So I fomatted everything, and reverted the partition changes to stock. But the error was still there, on both cwm/twrp.
So I thought of using miflash method to solve this issue. But miflash is giving unspecified error. Yes, I'm doing everything correctly in miflash method,no space in folder name and etc.But it's giving error.
Now I don't have anything in my phone except twrp. Cant flash AOSP/CM romes because of the error and cannot flash MIUI from meflash. What should I do? Seriously I'm completely broken. Need Help. :crying::crying:
If under warranty take it to the nearest service center. They should fix your phone.
Flash MIUI through recovery method.
dude, flash back to stock partitions and only after u flash that through cwm/twrp (try both if its still not working ) it will work Mi Flash. I experienced the same problem, just kept flashing (cmw/twrp) the stock partition zip and it worked

Can't flash a single custom rom. Help Needed.

So I don't know what has happened but I can't flash even a single custom rom. The problem occurs in TWRP as well as CWM. Also I am on the stock partition. Tried the modified partition too. The problem is still occuring no matter what I try. The following case is of SOKP. Every other rom also has the same problem. Even after trying it via adb the problem persists.
After I select the zip file in the recovery mode, the installation starts. After that, it says:
Patching system image unconditionally...
blkdiscard failed: Invalid argument
E : Error in/data/media/0/SOKP-L_5.1.1-LMY48B-R3-20150525-cancro.zip
(Status 7)
Installation aborted.
Have you checked whether your bootloader is locked or not (because of that damned MIUI MM)? Try sending through fastboot:
Code:
fastboot oem device-info
If the "Device unlocked" comes out as false, then unlock it first by sending through fastboot:
Code:
fastboot oem unlock
It'll wipe all the content of your phone though...

Extend your partition first, you'll be fine then. There is manual tutorial in Mi3 General sub forum.

failed to mount /data (Invalid argument)

Hi,
I just installed Huawei P9 [ROM][6.0] fRomFuture - NewWorld V2 and the phone boots and works fine, but I cant update Su binary because of this error in TWRP ( I have unlocked bootloader and root):
failed to mount /data (Invalid argument)
Just clear the notification on each restart, don't try and update the SU Binary. It's a known issue
See the rom's thread
And re the TWRP issue, are you using the latest one from @paulobrien? 3.0.2.0 RC3?

Thank you, nope I was using the one from SRK TOOL. Do you know how to install TWRP via Paul, its a img file (i'll have a hunt for his copy)
In twrp, go install, choose install image, choose file, select partition recovery and done
Other method with pc-fastboot command -> fastboot flash recovery blabla.img this method need root with stock rom. Custom roms already rooted so dont worry

Don't know if the Tool is using the latest version. Paul's is here ... http://forum.xda-developers.com/p9/development/wip-twrp-support-t3372331 still has some issues backing up, but best we have at the mo.
you can either flash as @master' suggests or via adb
adb reboot-bootloader
fastboot flash recovery twrp-3.0.2-0-eva-modaco-rc3.img
fastboot reboot

Hello everyone,

The problem is, that I peace of s**t wiped all options, from Davlik/ART Cache about system to version.
I luckily did a nandroid backup before do this, so I restored it but now Im getting the failure every time I try to flash the custom rom or do a factory reset...

If you can still get into TWRP then try flashing the backed up (or stock, extracted from a stock ROM) boot.img first. This will bring those partitions back (I think). Don't do this with the restore method in twrp, instead use the install button then change from .zip to .img.
Have you tried the dload method to flash back to stock or the huawei updater and hisense? Then redo everything from unlocking the bootloader to installing twrp and root. From there try to restore your backup. As far as i know this should work if all else fails, having done the exact same thing myself as you previously.
In the future when installing a custom rom the only partitions you need to wipe for a clean install are
Dalvik/ART
Cache
System
Data
Internal Storage (optional)

Only if you were on b378 before you messed up the phone or plan on flashing a b378 based ROM. Otherwise you will have to download a stock firmware and extract the boot.img from there. You can find stock firmwares in this thread:

Having the same issue only without these vendor, version, etc mounting, nothing will flash...including stock. Bootloader works, TWRP works, cant mount, repair, or format partitions. This happened after flashing Revolution I believe. If anyone has a walk through for a potential fix, I'm all ears!

Sorry to say you but there was no solution for it. I did send my phone to servise and still wait for call.. in theory fix should be easy (with their tools etc..) but i am still not sure will they fix it or not.
When they call me i will tell you how much it cost and what they did to it..if they could. Worst case scenario i will sell my phone in parts and get some money back.

Every few days somebody opens such a thread, having the phone similarly bricked. When asking what did you do, it turns out that he was on some of the AOSP based custom ROMs (there are couple of them), and he wanted to go back to stock, or he wanted to try/flash to the other custom ROM, etc.
I really wonder (I never tried those AOSP based custum ROMs - AFAIK, drivers for camera are not published and all those AOSP ROMs cannot utilize the main strength on this phone, the camera. Besides, I'm happily using another custom ROM that is stock based [hence havint the stock Camera app] but debloated, prerooted by Magisk, etc) do the corresponding AOSP custom ROM threads provide FAQ or information how to go back to stock (maybe they do but people don't bother to read)?
If they don't provide such info, why people do not first ask there (before bricking the phone)? IMO, developers of those custom ROKs would know the answer, if asked (supposidely they test their custom ROMs on various configurations and they have to go back to stock and forth to custom).
It will be helpful to ask and to get the answer in those threads for future users who will similarly come to try the ROMs, but maybe then also want tto go back to stock - to prevent that they similarly brick the phones.

Do not worry. First when u r in twrp wipe your system , cache, and dalvik cache partitions. Then extract the big update.app file and extract the boot, recovery and system images. Then flash recovery first and boot image and system image using fastboot. Then take a microsd card create a folder dload and place the big update.app file inside it and put it in ur phone.
Now press vol up vold down and power button till u see the huawei logo.
Wait for some time. You will see the device starts updating. After the update finishes reboot phone.
There you go phone starts working. Now huawei logo will flash for some time. If it is taking too long go to recovery by pressing vol up and power then do wipe data and cache. The process might fail but no problem press reboot and your phone will work.

did you found the correct metheod to fix it.
TWRP builds for P9 Android MM, N, O
TWRP must be ported to the particular device and firmware to support its partitions set-up, encryption, etc
No wonder that installing inappropriate TWRP and using it to flash something can brick your device
For Huawei it means that different ports of TWRP are required for different EMUI versions (4, 5 or 8)
In other words, depending on your P9 stock Android version, the following TWRP builds are proven (and AFAIK the newest)
- For Marshmallow, P9-EVA-TWRP-Android-6 from this post:
https://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=72153575&postcount=2
- For Nougat, twrp-3.1.1-1-eva_extended from this post:
https://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=75787111&postcount=1
- For Oreo, P9-EVA-8.0.0-TWRP-v4 from this post

I managed to fix this. My P9 was bricked, fastboot display an erro(11) and the above when trying to flash a rom in TWRP.
First download a stock rom, if possible the rom version that came with your phone, unzip update.zip to get update.app. Download app extractor and extract vendor.img, product.img, verlist.img, system.img then flash all img in fastboot, i.e., fastboot vendor vendor.img..
Erecovery mode will now be possible, connect to wifi and recover phone.

Bro today i found solution for this problem i was also getting error i was very frustrated
first of all download the original firmware from the manufacturer and unzip all the files you will find many images file such as boot.img,vbmeta.img...etc extract all the img files from the rom and place it in your desktop.
then whatervr invalid arguments you were getting such as vendor product etc this all comes inside the SUPER.IMG file you have to do only one thing go to fastboot mode and flash super.img file while booting your phone in fastboot mode
command:
fastboot flash super super.img
then it will take a while and congtrats all errors fixed after struggling and searching almost two hour i didnt gat a way out i wan not able t copy super.img file directly into storage i dont know why but after this the phone became normal
if you face any issues then tell i will send screenshots of everything

Unable to flash Lineage 16, weird error message from TWRP 3.3.1-0

Greetings everyone,
I have a P20 Pro that was a long time ago under LineageOS 15. I've upgraded it to EMUI 9 out of curiosity a few months back, but I'm not happy with it and I would like to install LineageOS 16.
From TWRP, I'm trying to install the LineageOS 16 packages that I `adp push`'ed to `/sdcard`, but I get the following error:
Code:
...
Checking for Digest file...
E3000: This package expects the value "_a" for "ro.boot.slot_suffix"; this has value "".
Updater process ended with ERROR: 7
Error installing zip file '/sdcard/lineage-16.0-20190728-nightly-charlotte-signed.zip'
I've tried with numerous LineageOS 16 packages (Latest signed official and a bunch of unofficial), they all give me the same error. I also tried with TWRP 3.2.2-0 with the same result. Anyone with a similar experience please?
Everything is unlocked on the phone (Both lines are RED on recovery).
Note that when I try to wipe using TWRP 3.2.2-0, I get errors that don't happen using 3.3.1-0:
Code:
Unable to wipe Cache.
Unable to wipe /cache.
I'm using ext4 for /cache, /data and /system.
[EDIT]What seems very odd is the fact that I'm actually able to flash LineageOS 15 (lineage-15.1-20181011_144350-UNOFFICIAL) but the phone gets stuck in a reboot loop afterward. Oh well, I'm without a phone [/EDIT]

Thank you @forever_lol! I'm looking around and I can't figure out what the "dev section" is. The P20 install instructions are here: https://wiki.lineageos.org/devices/charlotte/install
In the package ZIP file, the only script I could find is `backuptool.sh` and I don't think it's related at all. I didn't find any README either... Any pointer where I can find this "dev section" please?
EDIT: I found this thread right here: https://forum.xda-developers.com/honor-view-10/development/rom-lineageos-16-0-t3876509/page12 and there's an occurrence of where this installer script is. I'll try tonight. Thanks!

Thanks @forever_lol,
I had to flash partitions manually from images extracted from Huawei's `update.app`:
Code:
fastboot flash cust cust.img
fastboot flash kernel kernel.img
fastboot flash ramdisk ramdisk.img
fastboot flash recovery_ramdisk recovery_ramdis.img
fastboot flash recovery_vbmeta recovery_vbmeta.img
fastboot flash recovery_vendor recovery_vendor.img
fastboot flash system system.img
fastboot flash vbmeta vbmeta.img
fastboot flash vendor vendor.img
It seems like `vendor` fails at the 2nd sparse chunk... Not sure why. Message was:
Code:
fastboot flash vendor vendor.img
Sending sparse 'vendor.img' 1/2 (440380 KB) OKAY [ 11.642s]
Writing sparse 'vendor.img' 1/2 FAILED (remote: 'Command not allowed')
Finished. Total time: 11.663s
Now I'm seeing errors in TWRP when trying to format / flash:
Code:
Failed to mount '/cust' (Invalid argument)
Failed to mount '/vendor' (Invalid argument)
Failed to mount '/system' (Invalid argument)
Any idea?
Hey man, I just gave you the link from official lineage os thread for p20 pro (placed in development section called "roms, kernels... etc") i barely answered how to bypass installation error 7 on twrp. That's all. Not sure why you looked for help in other devices forum instead of searching lineage os thread thoroughly. No offence but i have no idea what you did to your device later.
Try this guide, it solves most problems I had.
