Lower Resolution for Better Battery ? - Nokia 8 Questions & Answers

Hi guys
I was pondering weather or not to lower the resolution on my Nokia 8 in the favour of a better life? Has anyone made an attempt ? You think it will make a difference ? You can do it with with root and without apparently. Food for thoughts, ideas comments are all welcomed.

I've done it/am doing it.
Day to day there isn't much increase in battery life (that I noticed anyway).
I game a fair bit though and have noticed the battery lasts a bit longer with the display set to a lower resolution.
I haven't measured/documented any of this so your milage may vary.

I can suggest using setcpu profiles to reduce battery use. If you will make at least one profile to reduce cpu when screen is off, battery life will be much longer.

hehe try set cpu app and make a profile for certain time like for after 12 and before ur wake up time or something like that and set cpu usage of both minimum and maximum to the lowest possible state like 122 mhz as u dont use phone in night there is no need of excess processing speed
try this will notice a huge improvment in battery , also note that Rooting is required
also see the attachments and make sure u click on enable profile... it will surly help u out with problem of battery drainage

battery consumption problem caused by bad voltage handling?

so I downloaded somekind of battery widget that have graphic log on the voltage and I noticed that when my new optimus 4x's voltage jumped between high and low it cause the battery to drop rapidly... CMIIW, I can't help but feeling that this is very much like those happened at contemporary desktop CPU that constantly adjusting voltages, however with the bad efficiency one, not sure if this is LG's fault or Nvidia's, anyone here have article reviewing/explaining the Tegra 3 platform? CMIIW, the CPU is Nvidia's right? or is it somebody else's CPU?
anyone else noticed similar behavior? any suggestion on improving the battery life?
When root will come out, definitely will improve battery

only the moto raz maxx will last longer then 4h constant gaming.
alot for me is about 10 calls, 20-30 messages, wifi, data and sync on at all times. navigate during work, check rss feeds and email a couple of times / hour. play wordfeud and rumble with notifications.
maybe im not as heavy user as others but thats alot for me and i dont feel any change in batterylife from my meizu mx or htc desire. u get 2150mah battery in this phone, compared to meizu mx or desire with their 1500-1600mah but u also have double the performance and alot bigger screen, why would it last longer?
LG states that some apps cause battery drain. I have read it in some internal b2b document from LG site. One of the apps mentioned was poweramp. Don't know if problem is fixed with newest firmwares.

[Q] battery drain increases drastically after 50%

Hey guys, could use some input if anyone's passing by. I've noticed that, as the title states, that battery drain greatly increases after going below the 50% threshold. I don't think its ROM related because its proportional. If a ROM has fast battery drain intrinsically, it will still be even faster after going below 50%. Just wanted to know if anyone else has experienced this. I think it might just be my battery is partly defective, or substandard. It doesn't seem like something software related. Anyways, just some quick comments is all I'm looking for. Mostly just curious.

Screen Resolution

I noticed on my phone that it is set at the medium resolution settings instead of the highest one. I read in the preliminary reveiws that going to the highest will burn more battery and make things smaller. I am a 50 year old man that should use glasses but doesnt. Now that people have had the phone for a while what settings are people using for their resolutions and does it make the text smaller. I dont seem to notice but i cant check anymore as i returned it for a verizon model and will be waiting. It is a question i could never find a answer and this is the last place i could figure to look.
The highest resolution does not change the text size. If you look very, very carefully, you may notice a slight difference in sharpness compared to medium resolution, but it is, in my opinion, negligible. Take also into account that med res is also more battery friendly and you may reach the same conclusion as I, that med res is the way to go.

I keep mine at FHD+ (2220x1080), simply for the battery trade off. WQHD+ (2690x1440) uses a lot more power and not a lot of content is native in that resolution, and it does make things smaller. The only instance I could imagine there being a significant advantage of the latter resolution would be when one was using the Gear VR. When a display is that close to your eyes and viewed through the lenses of the headset, you'd want a higher resolution to avoid being able to see individual pixels.
As a near 50 year old man myself I recommend setting it to the medium setting, keeps battery happy and the old 4 eyes.
The battery difference in the middle and Max is minut. Here is mine at Max all day brightness at 80.
So put it on the Max if you want don't worry about the battery. Like I said I tested both resolutions and its not that big of a difference at all. We buy these phones for there great display use it.

Any ideas what?
I tested out the highest setting when I first got it but found it to be negligible in difference. Based on that and the fact that I knew it would just burn down the battery, I switched back to medium.

don't see the point in max setting for general use. Its only of use for VR. Should auto detect VR and whack it up too but it doesn't.

Good question. Battery life on my Note8 is very good. Today, with a SoT of 4h, 45 min of which was Waze, the phone was at 49%.
But - I don't use push notifications, no Whatsapp and I am vrey careful about which apps can send notifications at all.
BTW - screen on Auto, resolution at medium.
If you are doing all that, I would consider a factory reset...

So you don't see the point for having better resolution on your screen? If that's the case just get a 720p phone.

I got close to 7.5 on medium. It's just not necessary for what I do. If I'm going to use VR then I'll switch to it, but I don't so there's no need for me.

Possibly the BEST Screen On Time ever?

I've own the note 9 since it's release, and I've heard that the phones need to "calibrate" themselves to achieve their best battery life, so long story short, today I got this INSANE SOT
Pretty much an hour of SOT per every 10% of battery.
NO battery saving mode.
My screen is at WQHD
AOD off (I don't really need it)
Mostly WIFI
I'm using Swift Installer (all black with accents)
IMO I think this battery is an absolute beast. What do you guys thinks?
And yes, this was on a single charge. From 100% down to 4%
