Custom rom with Android Auto and fingerprint working - Xiaomi Redmi 4X Questions & Answers

Hi all.
Android Auto
Unfortunately I can't find any roms with Android Auto working. The app can't detect the "draw over other apps" permission and can't start. Some people confirmed multiple times this is not an issue of mine. I report the issue to many devs and maintainers but they have never fixed. Since I can't try all XDA roms, do you know any rom with Android Auto working?
Fingerprint working with financial apps
All roms I tried, except for Personal LineageOS 15.1 by @Ham3r, have issues with fingerprint. Financial apps like PayPal (and many others) don't let me use fingerprint because of an issue with SEpolicy, which can be fixed with literally one line of code.
I'm looking for a rom without these 2 annoying issues. I can give up on Android Auto but the fingerprint is really important.
Thank you!

It's seriously tiresome that no focus has been given to Android Auto - it works perfectly on Nougat, if you were wondering.

Moto Display Possible on CM?

Hello XDA!
I was wondering if its possible to install and run the original Moto Display application on my device. My device is a Moto X 2014 (Pure Edition) running Cyanogenmod 14.1. I have tried alternatives such as DynamicNotifications, ACDisplay, and Cyanogenmod's own Ambient display, but none compared to how Moto Display feels. I've tried installing the application from the Play Store but once I open the "Display" portion of the Moto app, the app crashes and goes to the main screen. Any help at all would be appreciated. Thanks again and I look forward to my first XDA Thread.
Hi man!
I get that this is your first thread, but this has been discussed a million times. You'll never get Moto Display or Voice on any ROM that is not stock. They're closed source apps and there's nothing we can do about it, not even workarounds because the lads at Google are greedy bast*rds which have hijacked most of the features in Android, the most notable one being, guess what, voice control.

Thanks for your help. I am sad that its a close sourced app but I guess there's nothing I can do about it. Thanks you for assisting me in this matter.:good:
You're welcome I also used CM14 for some time until I realised that workarounds for Display weren't the same thing, that replicating Voice functionality was a lost cause, and that I needed some Xposed-related features for my job (such as disabling the proximity sensor).
I settled on stock 6.0 with N-ify and N Navbar, which do a pretty good job at making this phone feel up-to-date.
It's a setup I would suggest to anyone looking for a feature-minded compromise, even if multiwindow is absent and quick reply only works to a certain extent.

Lineage 14.1?

To all devs out there. Is anybody able and willing to port lineage to the p10?
For what purpose? P9 is one year on the market and Lineage is in development since December - and still there is no usable version. Huawei is not helping, Nougat kernel source is still not released. With P10 will be exactly the same
better privacy protection? installed afwall+ and saw there a huge wave of outgoing data to google, somwhere to china and many other companys. xposed would also be very welcome instead of lineage and at least xprivacy
i still do not use the p10 as dayli driver untill xposed and xprivacy are ready for Nougat. my current phones run only on resurrection remix mm with xposed, xprivacy and afwall+, without gapps. it is very interesting to see where the apps are willing to connect all over the world. xprivacy allows me to restrict the contact to not really necessary services.
protecting my privacy by using android is my highest aim.

You are right, but this is not answer for my question. Why any devs should deal with this, if it is probably impossible to make it usable with all stock feature, like it happened with P9? One of the main reason of buying P9 (and now P10) is quite unique camera - and this feature is still not working and probably won't in the future...
the not working camera at lineage cross over many different devices is one of the biggest chalenges of our time in android. as you said is it google who seems to be not willing to release the nougat kernel source. as an owner of a samsung galaxy alpha, modpunk as the dev for lineage for this device seems to be one of a few devs who managed to let the camera working properly.
it seems that the camera was you personal reason to buy the p10. in my case the camera was not the reason. every top smartphone of our time has a proper working camera on stock os.
why should a dev deal with this? because it could be a very interesting chalenge?
Xposed installer from dvdandroid will install the systemless magisk xposed on the VTR-L09

Is there a way to install LinageOS on the Huawei p10
Ive searched and not been able to find a way
Please let me know
meanwhile i sold the p10 because there is not really development for this device. just trying to get a honor 8 pro.

24 hours in Using Android 9.0 on my UK H9L - Works surprisingly well - details inside

So after seeing announcements about Project Treble and GSI floating about the internet I thought I'd look for a version to use on my Honor 9 Lite and came across this thread:
https://forum.xda-developers.com/project-treble/trebleenabled-device-discussion/android-pie-kirin-guys-t3830420
Users have had Android Pie running on a honor 7X so I thought there can't be that much difference between the 2 devices, so why not give it a try? If it goes wrong I can always use my stock backup.
So I flashed as per the instructions in that post and it works, really well. So much so that I'm gonna keep it as a daily driver.
Be careful which version of Gapps you use, the BitGapps mentioned in the post has been discontinued by the Dev, I initially tried OpenGapps but it was for 8.0 so failed to install.
If you search around you can still find the last version of BitGapps that was released, and is version 9.0 compatible.
What's Good
Installs pretty quick
Fast, much faster than EMUI - Could be a Placebo effect, but general use is very snappy and downloads/app installs seem very quick
Wi-Fi working fine
Bluetooth working fine, confirmed on Ticwatch and Car radio
Mobile data works fine
Finger print reader works fine
Sound and phone calls work fine
What's not so Good
This Rom is based off AOSP, don't expect any of the Huawei/EMUI functions or features.
On first boot the ROM is bare bones, hardly any apps installed, looks like an old version of Android rather than a shiny new one.
You have to enable guestures before the swipe navbar appears
You'll have to use a 3rd party launcher to get the full Android P look. The Quickstep launcher in this version of AOSP has sqaure icons and certain options like wallpaper/widgets etc just FC. - I chose Lawnchair for this.
Hotspot doesn't work at all, it just disables wi-fi then FC
You may have to mess around with the display settings to make things align correctly, for some reason everything seemed to be shifted to the left edge. I chose small display size with large font size to smooth it out
Camera obviously, same issues as we had on the 8.0 roms, banding/poor tracking/poor quality (Biggest downside) I've not rooted, so not tried any of the camera ports. Open Camera app has the same issues.
Sound over bluetooth was distorted (not confirmed, could be my car radio)
Some graphical glitches. Stutters & frame drops when using task switcher, switching to chrome from recents has a lag/distorted effect and menus appear out of focus and take a second or two to correct
Any Questions I'll try to answer as best as I can.
I've tried many different gsi images on my H9L. Most did make my phone 'feel' faster, I guess mainly due to the overhead EMUI takes and eliminating it does remove some burden from the phone. However, that's where the advantages stopped. Many of the issues you mention on Pie are on Oreo also. I had too many issues to overcome and make it 'daily driver' usable that it just wasn't worth it, so went back to stock and removed as much huawei/honor stuff as i could via root, then removed root. This seems to give me best of both worlds, i.e. close to vanilla android but everything, hardware wise, just works as intended. Since I have BL unlocked and TWRP working i can also keep updating, via HURupdater, with official updates for as long as huawei/honor keep posting updates; e.g. currently on B135 with Aug security patches, that is just as good as any GSI image now (Aug18).

General feedback of using custom roms on s5

Hi all,
I've been using various custom roms on my samsung galaxy s5 for a number of years now starting from Resurrection Remix, Lineage 14.1, then progressing to lineage 15.1 and now AospExtended-v6.2-official.
It's been an interesting learning experience and somewhat enjoyable and sometimes frustrating experience.
In some aspects I'm really happy that I've done so, as the software is updated quite frequently with the latest Android security patches.
* Get to experience features that my phone was never intended to have.
* Obtain root
* scratch a learning itch.
In some other aspects it can be quite frustrating:
* I've never gotten google assistant to be responsive on a consistent level
* Sometimes my device freezes when I say ok google to wake it up from the lock screen and it takes multiple "hey google" or "ok google attempts" to get my search while the phone just freezes or takes an excessively long time to load my search (which has been consistent over all of my custom roms).
* Since using Lineage 15.1 (oreo based rom) and AospExtended (pie based rom), the frequent bluetooth disconnections, which I'm not sure will ever be fixed.
* Camera quality has never been the same as stock.
What have been some of your experiences?
Have you been able to overcome your frustrations?
Thank you.
I am pretty happy with all the roms I've used on my s5 duos .....I never use Google services so no gapps ..... everything runs lagfree ......all my app needs are met by yalpstore(it fetches apps from Google Play Store) or aurora store (same)....…....very grateful to all the devs of LOS,AEX,HAVOC,VIPEROS,BOOTLEGGERS,etc roms they have made my phone usefull again ....

Interesting thanks for the response.
I enjoy Google products (when they work) but haven't had much luck with Google assistant. There's quite a bit of delay at times after I've woken up the phone with the hey Google voice command.
Sometimes this is the same with my gboard though.
Not sure whether I'm expecting too much from my old phone but it does tend to run on the slower side at times.
Sometimes I wonder whether the launcher has anything to do with it. I've decided today to use the pixel launcher which so far seems a bit smoother.
Otherwise I'd be using Nova and I've put all my apps in their own folders within the app drawee which sometimes I believe contributes to the slowness.
Overall today has been a good day I've had a couple of moments where Google assistant hasn't responded and some Bluetooth disconnects but otherwise ok.
I'm thinking about installing magisk on this rom but not sure whether it can be done as I have adopted my entire SD card.

Is there no fix for the Bluetooth problem ?

Is there ANY rom for the MI 9 that works correct with Android for Work profile?

My company uses the the VMWare HUB application to provide email ect to personal devices. That app uses the Android for Work profile to create a second workspace on the phone. With the MIUI software this is broken because there is way to much customization done to Android. With other roms i run into different issues which is due to the GAPPS not working (not correctly signed / trusted). So for my MI 9 there is no option to get the Android for Work profile working as far as i know. Some XIAOMI.EU roms kinda work, but not really reliable or always with some bug / limitation.
So.... is there anyone else that tried Android for Work on a Xiaomi phone? And got it to work?

The opengapps work just fine with Android for work. I've used them (nano) with custom roms like Omnirom with no issues at all.

Ok, good to know. I see it creates some apps in the profile but not the play store, so i suspected some issue there.
