Android Auto Lag - Samsung Galaxy Note 9 Questions & Answers

Hi,
I have used Android auto with 3 phones with my current car (2017 Civic). Pixel 2 was running great, 6T runs great as well, but Note 9 is unusable. The animations are very slow, they never finish completely unless I touch the screen, and it just feels horribly laggy compared to the Pixel or 6T.
I've updated the Android auto app of course, factory reset the phone many times, tried with Oreo, with Pie Beta 1 and with Pie Beta 2 and same even if Beta 1/2 seem faster, they are still very slow.
Has anyone ran into the same problem before?

Saw this thread just now and have the exact same problem with my 17 civic and 10+
Heard it might work better if you change the usb cable- have you tried that?

Anyone make an unofficial Android Auto version?

Quick rant: I purchased a pixel 2 xl and a Pioneer NEX headunit and was very excited to get Android Auto in my vehicle. Since day one it's been a raging dumpster fire. Biggest issue being Android Auto just won't launch on my pixel 2 xl and my wife's pixel 2. However my Nexus 6p works perfectly. Sometimes it launches within a few minutes, sometimes it takes my entire 45 min commute to work and it never launches. It's like it's RNG based. Once connected it stays connected. I'm not going to into all the other frustrating bugs such as volume issues, Assistant coming out of different speakers, hangs, crashes, weather tile is now gone somewhere, and many more smaller gripes.
Now that that's out of the way does anyone make a ROM or unofficial app for Android Auto that works on some of these issues? In the past I relied on the community to fix Google's shortcomings. It may just be that since this only seems to affect the pixel 2 and Android Auto that there are only a few people experiencing the issues I am. With only a few affected there may be no community attention.
Not sure if this is what you are talking about, but there is the openauto project and crankshaft:
https://github.com/f1xpl/openauto
https://github.com/htruong/crankshaft
Since his Nexus 6p is working very well the issue is on the phone end, not the HU. I am having similar issues with a Sony Z3 compact I am playing with to keep AAMirror on. However, other phones running latest version AA 3.1 have no issue at all - Note8 on Oreo, S8 on Oreo, S4mini on Lineage 14.1 all connect ASAP to my Suzuki HU.

Lots of issues after updated to Android 9 Pie (Mi A2)

After my Mi A2 was updated from Android 8 O to Android 9 P, I have to face lots of bugs and some serious issues. Although I already tried factory resetting, it doesn’t help. Many A2 users also face these issues.
1. Portrait Mode – Unable to focus on any other subjects, except a subject in the middle of the frame. That means whenever you touch on the screen to focus, focusing does not work for you at all. This is one of most serious issues for users who love photography.
2. Fingerprint Scan – Significantly slower scanning speed. Very annoying.
3. Screen Brightness Dropping – When I was on Android 8 O, I always adjusted the brightness scale to 30-40% and it’s bright enough. But now, for Android 9 P, I have to slide the scale to 70-80% so I can see the screen clearly. (Adaptive Brightness already turned off)
+++ There's an explanation that this screen brightness change is not a bug. Find out more here: https://forums.androidcentral.com/g...ubt-about-display-brightness-android-pie.html
Thanks @Varun.Shanbhag for the information. +++
4. Heating Issue – I’ve noticed that while charging the phone, when it was on Android 8 O, the temperature never got more than 39°C, but now, on Android 9 P, it sometimes gets to 41°C. (Refer to the app ‘Ampere’)
Moreover, when using camera, it gets hot too quickly.
However, I am not sure if there’s only me facing this overheating issue.
It is likely to be caused by CPU freq. issue stated in the following thread: https://forum.xda-developers.com/mi-a2/help/little-cpu-stucks-1401-mhz-min-freq-t3851184
5. Touch Screen – Touch screen seems to be less responsive than before. I can notice its latency. Sometimes I have to double tap the screen to get something done, because the first tap does not respond. (It can be easily noticed this issue with back button)
6. Lower Audio Volume – Some users say that they're facing lower audio volume issue when using earphones or headphones.
7. Face ID - Face ID doesn't work stably, it sometimes works and sometimes does not.
8. Front Flash Issue - front flash doesn't work when I turn it on in camera app. (But it works when set it as 'Auto')
9. Black Banding on Camera Screen - There're black bandings appear on the screen while using camera app, they look like signal noise appears on TV.
10. Camera App Crashes - Camera sometimes crashes, for example, the camera app says "Camera Error - Can't connect to camera" when I switch the camera from back to front in Portrait Mode.
11. Whole system seems to be less stable than it was in Android Oreo.

I'm not sure about beep and screen randomly wake up, but the laggy LED pulse happens to me, that makes me annoyed sometimes ?
I also found that the LED issue has appeared since Android 8 O.
yeah the laggy led looks so cheap and retro like it was used in the last century ???
Hey guys, i just updated to pie December update, and the wifi tethering band locked to 2,4Ghz, any way to enable the 5ghz?
Really considering flashing the custom Pixel Experience ROM. Having a lot of bugs on Pie. Did the factory reset. None of them gone.
Any suggestions ? Should I just go for Custom. Or should I wait for next update ?

About the heating problem probably your cpu stacks at 1401 mhz when charging. Check it with cpu spy. This was happened to me with pie.

Is that the same issue people talking about in this thread? https://forum.xda-developers.com/mi-a2/help/little-cpu-stucks-1401-mhz-min-freq-t3851184
I think Xiaomi should fix these bugs ASAP, seems there're too much troubles here, as if we are using extremely unstable buggy custom rom LOL.

Thanks for your information, I've added it to the list. I also hear about Face ID issue on Pie, so you can be sure that there's not only you are facing haha.
I feel kinda sad with this update. We should report all the problems to Xiaomi as much as we can, just hope the dev can hear our voices.

Oreo is ok, i have downgrade my phone after some hours using pie. Pie for me it is in early beta.
How can we report about this ?
Gps problems
I'm also having issue with lags. Fingerprint scanner is lagging from time to time.. Overall daily task from switching apps to bring back to home screen also lags.
Disabling adaptive brightness seems to help improve the lag so far...

I just got my Global A2, 4/64 two days ago. Updated to Pie and have Dec Patch.
1) Portrait works fine. I can focus on any part of the scene and that subject will be in focus. Works quickly and reliably.
2) Fingerprint scan is quick with zero issues holding my finger at any angle. No lag whatsoever.
3) I went straight to Pie, so had zero experience with Oreo on the A2, but screen brightness behaves similar to the Moto G5+ that I had before. Adaptive brightness also behaves the same.
4) I never checked the phone with Oreo, but when charging on Pie, the phone feels cool to the touch. Cooler than my Moto G5+. BTW, I am using the OEM Moto QC 3.0 charger with the A2.
5) Touch screen is as responsive as my Moto G5+ and my Wife's Moto G6.
6 and 7) I don't use headphones or Face ID.

Everything is working perfectly. No lag choosing focus points in portrait, no lag using the finger print sensor, no lag using the screen, adaptive brightness, heat issues etc.? That all the behavior I am seeing would be better with Oreo?

Hello
I was on Oréo before and I did not notice any difference in the use with Pie, I am very fond of this version (sorry for English).

Note 9 notification bar stutter when I have a video wallpaper

Does anyone else experience this? I really like using a video for the lock screen but the stutter is so unbearable i can't use it. It has been like this on several versions of Android 9. Here is the difference between a normal wallpaper and a video. It's worse in 1440p resolution.

True ! I can see the difference, like its 20FPS less than normal.
I dont have this issues.
But i had this a short time, i was on Android 9 Pie.
Iam Back to Oreo 8.1 and never had this issue again. Fluid like Butter.
Android 9 is not 100% optimized for the N9

Bad Android Auto performance with Galaxy Note 9 & Honda Civic 2017

I upgraded my phone from Galaxy S8 ( SM-G950F) to Galaxy Note 9 ( SM-N960F) and I noticed really poor performance when using Android Auto with my car head unit. It was OK when I was using Galaxy S8. AA ran fine on the phone (Note 9) itself. Below are some of the things I noticed when using AA with Note 9.
Every button touch up to 10 seconds to load and sometimes will not fully load (animation stuck halfway) until I touch another button or hold and drag the screen.
Scrolling is unusable (hit and miss), difficult to properly scroll and select the item I wanted.
Voice control is laggy and may take 5-6 seconds to respond to my voice command.
Audio worked fine (Call, Spotify & Navigation voice).
I have tested with AA version 3.x up to 4.1, all shown similar behavior. My current phone OS version is N960FXXS2CSCB, running Android 9 running OneUI 1.0. I have also tested pairing my head unit with other phones (Xiaomi Mi 8 & Huawei P20 Pro) using AA version 4.1 and they were working fine.
I contacted Samsung, they have no solution too. Only says they will bring the case to their internal team to take a look, no further update from then (it was 2 weeks ago).
I tried to find similar issue on the internet and below are some that I can find, none has any solution.

UPDATE: The latest update in May 2019 (Build N960FXXU2CSDE) fixed the problem

Constant lags after 5-6 hours of usage, MIUI 12.5.1 (only with full screen gestures in use)

Hello everyone and thanks for all your time in advance.
My problem is, i think, pretty complexed. I searched each forum, did everything i could to find solution and failed.
Problem:
After MIUI 12 update i have this weird lags which, after diagnosis, seems like come from MIUI Launcher. Lags are everywhere but with every hours after 5th or 6th since restart/changing launcher to nova and back to miui launcher/changing dark mode to light mode and back, they're getting stronger and stronger.
I found few solutions but mostly they were connected to APP VAULT:
1. Unistall updates, clear data and cache
2. Turn on APP VAULT and remove everything from notifications, especially Video
3. Turn off APP VAULT
For many people it helped but sadly i'm not amongst them.
I tried to not to do factory default but 3 days ago i decied i don't have time to these lags. I did factory default and without BACKUP i installed most of my things in memory. It's not much because i have like 30GB of total space used (128GB version).
In the same day i did factory default i noticed lags after some time (~5th hours of usage). It started with laggy animations on closing SMS app (Textra or Google Messages) and spreaded like virus to everything else.
What's most important lags are only in situation when i use FULL SCREEN GESTURES. When i use on screen buttons i don't have any lags. They are also not present in other Launchers. The sad thing is i don't want to use buttons. I like gestures and i got used to them so changing back to buttons is not an option.
The fastest temporary solution to these lags (after factory default because before it didn't work) is change dark mode to light mode and stay that way or just use dark mode again. It helps just for few hours and lags come back, stronger every hour.
I think there are few solutions to my problem but i don't really like neither of them.
1. Downgrade MIUI to version 11 (not single lag was there nor on 10)
2. Change to miui.eu (debatable because it doesn't have to help)
3. Change to Custom ROM (least needed option because there are always something BAD about them)
4. Sell phone and buy anything else but Xiaomi
It's my 3rd Xiaomi device and first so powerful and so problematic. Redmi Note 4 served me well for 4 years, Redmi Note 3 Pro for 2 years. In my company i have many Xiaomi Devices and only Mediateks are pure trash. Snapdragon ones (mi9lite, redmi note 8 pro, redmi note 8t, mi11, redmi note 10 pro, redmi 4x, redmi note 4, redmi 9t) work as their owners want. No problems so far even on MIUI 12 and full screen gestures.
