Hey guys -
Recently I switched back to the Android / Samsung ecosystem and have one thing that I haven't been able to fully transition, I sold my iPad Pro 12.9 and got a Tab S4 likewise sold my iPhone X and went with the Note 9, I bought the LTE version of the Tab and connected it with Sprint data.
I'm using Samsung Flow which has helped somewhat but I'm looking for a solution where if i'm on my tab I can potentially answer and start new messages as well as answer calls. With Flow, new messages that come into my phone I can answer from my Tab but I cannot initiate a new message from within the S4. Incoming calls ring on my S4 but there's no method from what I can tell to answer the call. Is there any app or native method of accomplishing this, for those familiar with iMessage on iOS, i'm looking for a similar transition between Tablet and phone. I know there are Google Voice and other second number options but this would entail having a second number confusing people but also the Google Voice apps are terrible.
Thanks-

I'm using Pulse SMS and love it...
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=xyz.klinker.messenger
Super clean interface and feels OEM. I also keep a tab open on my computer...sure is nice when logging into 2-factor sites and I don't have to reach for my phone.
Highly recommend this app for sending and receiving on multiple devices.

Also for phone calls, it's a little convoluted but you can get a free Google Voice number to use with the Hangouts app on your Tab. It won't let you use your actual cell number and I'm not sure it's possible to do what you can do with a pair of iDevices. Works good enough for me though.

Thanks for the suggestion, I gave Pulse a try and immediately found it was a winner, I had previously tried MightText and PushBullet and although they each had some strengths I found Pulse to be best for messaging, I'm still on my trial but will most likely end up with the life membership based on the low cost.

Pulse is great and seeing frequent updates...glad you like it. I purchased about 2 minutes after installing and confirming it worked as intended. Small amount to support the dev.

I have a Nexus One with Tmobile as my main cell-phone. I received a Sprint HTC EVO 4G from the Google IO conference. I want all of the text messages I receive on my Nexus One to AUTOMATICALLY forward, as text messages, to my Sprint EVO smartphone. Is this possible? If so, how do I set this up?
-Greymarch
I write about smartphones, especially the Nexus One at my website:

Another way you can go about it is forward the sms as email and set the program to not mark as read.
Edit: This is referring to a 3rd party program from the market. There are a few, try some and see what you think.

This is a good time to mention Google Voice, for anyone who might be unaware of it's powerful awesomeness. As of a few months ago, I've fully switched over and I am loving it. If you're going to have two phone numbers for a while (or even if not), you would be a prime candidate for Google Voice.
Everyone should check it out, highly recommended!

I already have google voice. Everyone with a Nexus One has Google voice. I do not want to make people switch to my new google voice number, and Google voice has nothing to do with what I want to accomplish anyhow. The point of the thread is how to make an android phone automatically forward text messages, AS TEXT MESSAGES, to another phone. Do you know how to do that? If so, please share it with us.
If you did forward them as text messages, they would just come back as sent from your phone. The solution I gave works better because they will apear as SMS From:xxxx.
Update...
A friendly fellow on another android message board system tipped me off to SMS Forwarder in the android marketplace. I installed it on my Froyo Nexus One, and it works like a charm.
However, I hope there is a way to do this internally in android, instead of requiring a third-party application.

I was saying it might be beneficial to consider using GV for texting in the future. If it's such a huge deal to switch for you, then fine forget it. But it's still information for others who might be reading, which is why I specifically said "for anyone" / "everyone". This is a public forum after all.

No there isn't.
The absolute best way to get SMS forwarding is through your carrier. But that'll depend on whether your carrier cares enough to add such a feature. Rogers in Canada just added it.

- It's a public forum, but my initial question was very specific. You nearly de-railed the thread.
- I did a quick search, in fact I did an extensive search on these boards and on the net. I couldnt find any answers so I posted here.
- My very specific question asked how to automatically forward a text message from my Nexus One phone to my Sprint EVO phone. Forwarding from a google voice number to other phones was never the right answer, and you know it. Why people insist on inserting themselves into internet message board questions, when they know they don't actually have the correct answer, is beyond me.

A VERY quick search on the market brought up some results you were looking for.
And people usually insert themselves even if it's not the exact answer the OP might have been looking for because the OP might not know about the idea, and decide that fulfills his/her needs for the situation. Why people insist on giving douche responses on internet messaging boards when people are merely trying to help them is beyond me.
Hi all,
I am creating this thread so that we can investigate what can and what cannot be done with the iPhone & Gear combination.
Let me first describe my experience so far, for anyone who may be interested. So let's say you want to use the Gear with your iPhone:
First of all you need to have null ROM on the Gear (see respective thread). I have null 15.
You go to full settings and then bluetooth and make the watch discoverable.
Then you go to the iPhone and search for devices (not the other way around).
What works:
1) Basic BT handsfree functionality.
They couple OK and this is it. You have a glorified 300 euro BT handsfree in the shape of a wristwatch!
2) Internet tethering via BT.
If your iPhone carrier settings do support tethering you can also tether the Gear via BT to the iPhone. I have seen that the tethering process works but unfortunately i was in an area of no signal when i did the test (don't have an iPhone right now) so there is no hard evidence. I mean i did not see a webpage loading but i think that tethering is actually device independent. Someone please confirm.
What doesn't work:
1) Notifications (which renders the added value of the whole smartwatch concept kind of questionable)
2) An automated or even manual (but no PC/cloud involved) way to transfer photos/vids taken with the Gear camera to the iPhone.
3) Caller ID with name. I have extensively tried this with both an iPhone 4 and a 5S both on iOS7 and both not jailbroken and when a call is received i only saw the number even if the caller was in the contact list of the iPhone and the native contact list on the Gear itself.
I am searching for a solution for bullets 2 and 3, since i will swap my S4 for a 5S very soon but i do intend to keep the Gear for the time being.
Any comment/personal experience/help will be greatly appreciated.
IMPORTANT UPDATE:
As of June 11, 2014 XDA member @Accounti provided the first (and only so far) solution, regarding iPhone & Gear cooperation.
Ladied and Gents, please welcome CloudNotifier Cydia tweak.
All notifications from jailbroken iPhone can be sent via Web to the Gear (and many other devices, as it is web based). It is not a direct BT connection, therefore NULL ROM is required so that BT tethering is enabled.
I would like to personally congratulate @Accounti for his work and kindly ask that relative posts are done in the following thread:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2784802
Please let us continue in this thread regarding the iPhone & Gear connection methods.
i tested everything all the day. I can confirm, it works, tethering it's fine, browsing, play store access, email, also I installed Whatsapp and using it.
A problem with this, after some minuts the internet connection become "on demand" so if you receive for example a whatsapp message you don't receive immediately the notification but you will receive the first time you connect to something (for example browsing a page or sending an email).
I'm searching a way to keep internet connection alive or to wake it every 15 minutes just to have live messaging with whatsapp.
I can confirm the problem with the caller Id, i think the problem it's that the iPhone does not push contacts to gear when you pair, and when a call comes the gear look not in the contacts list but in the pairing contacts, that is empty...
---------- Post added at 01:39 AM ---------- Previous post was at 01:13 AM ----------
Another problem, set every volume in gear to zero, only vibrating, iPhone is in silent mode to, when a call comes the Gear makes the ringtone anyway. It's a bad problem for me cause i can't use ringtone at work...
NZ, you do realize all this device needs is an app to communicate with. It is completely possible to make the Gear work with an iPhone.
Someone with some decent IOS App writing skills could make this work.
Stop filling this thread with your nonsense.

@gidi, did you try bluetooth transfering your files to your iPhone from the Gear ?
Not sure iOS supports bluetooth file transfers, but it should work.. along with bluetooth sharing contacts I believe, I activated that service too

@fOmey unfortunately i do not have an iPhone right now. Maybe will have the 5S within the day and then i will test and get back to the thread.
However, BT file transfer is a no go on an iPhone that is not jailbroken. Truth is that iOS 7 is a little more relaxed compared to older iOSs but i cannot confirm anything.
With a JB iPhone it may be a totally different story, however. There is tweak called BTnotificationenabler that transfers ALL push notifications through BT.
Could you please check what the profiles that the Gear supports are? Also, could you add more profiles, just in case?
Thank you dude!

That's a shame about the bluetooth transfer, although ! The bluetooth notifications is quite interesting.
What profile do you require for the bluetooth notifications ? As for adding new profiles.. I can activate additional services which have been included already, although it's kind of hit and miss if they will work ! .. If it's some weird proprietary services sadly no.
I have included majority of the useful ones already..
Hi Everyone,
I did a little thread cleaning. I think that this thread is perfect for xda. Although xda usually doesn't support iPhone development, I think most of the development here will need to be done on the Galaxy Gear side. As long as people are willing to help and test ideas, I say go for it!
Thanks!

fOmey i will search a little and get back to you.
I will alsotry to get in touch with a dev who has managed to make wonders with iPhone and Pebble.
Thing is, if some basic functionality can be achieved, then the Gear market will truly expand. There are many iPhone users who would love to use the Gear.
UPDATE: It might also be worth it if you could take a look at this: http://support.imwatch.it/downloads/
I have used the imwatch in the past and it can work both with iOS and Android.
Appart from the tethering function, i remember that when pairing with iPhone a special BT profile (do not remember it's name) was utilised that allowed the imwatch to download the whole iPhone contact list over BT.
Actually the Gear is all the imwatch was ever hoping to be and maybe some more!

Good idea Man! Look into the I'm Watch firmware is good, the profile used for sms is the Message Access Profile (MAP).
No way to save contacts manually, the Gear see it as empty. Is there a possibility to modify directly the contact file?
fOmey maybe you know witch is the right file
Just talked to fOmey in the chatroom of his website.
I informed him that jb for iOS 7 is out.
Now the news: fOmey has an iPhone also and i am trying to convince him to invest/waste some time trying to make the Gear - iPhone combination work.
Told him about the BTNotificationEnabler tweak (https://github.com/conradev/BTNotificationEnabler) and the MAP profile that is being used and he said that his ROM may already be supporting it.
If there is anyone with an iPhone and a Gear who wants to see the combination really work, please post to this thread. It could provide some motivation for fOmey!
I know he can do it if he decides to spend some time working on it.

I'm here baby! What i have to do? Jailbreak+btnotification+Gear with null15?

I have activated profile MCE in the current version of null_ which is a MAP profile, I have just finished activating MSE which also is a MAP profile, this will be available in the next version. So in other words all profiles in reference to MAP will be activated in the next version of null_ (16).
Take a look at this page for a better understanding.

It's auto-enabled when you turn bt on? Because when an sms arrive nothing happens, and from iPhone side it's always turned on.

fOmey my man if i got this correctly then the MSE (server side) profile should be enabled on the iPhone and the MCE (client side) should be enabled on the Gear.
However, "The MCE device shall use the services of the MSE device only after successfully creating a secure connection", which kind of concerns me.
But again, in fOmey we trust for everything Gear related.

Hey guys,
I'm looking at getting a G2N in the next few days (if I can find a shop that has them in stock!)
I just have a couple of questions...
1. Does it show WhatsApp messages? I tried YouTube but the ones that talk about WhatsApp is in German.
2. Does it show the weather forecast?
3. How accurate is the S Voice on it?
I'm using a Galaxy Note 2 (DN3 RC2 on 4.4.2).
Sent from my GT-N7100 using XDA Premium 4 mobile app
I don't use whatsapp messenger so I can't answer the first question, but I do use it to receive Facebook, espn, and other notifications. I'm site if you choose to see those it will display them. It also has a ten day forecast. And as far as s voice I think it's pretty spot on, I've been using it for a week and only once have I had to re-say what I meant. I have it paired with an s5 to for what it's worth

1. Does it show WhatsApp messages?
I don't use WhatsApp, but *all* the apps that I have used with the watch DO show notifications clearly.
(GoogleNow, Business Calendar, Feedly, a couple of others/ etc.)
2. Does it show the weather forecast?
Yes, it even has a watch face with time and a weather logo that show the temperature and a current weather
symbol (clouds, clear, rainy). If you push the logo, you get a scrolling weather forecast in more detail (for several
days). It works well -but the fastest/most current updates in settings is hourly (I'd like 15 minutes!). I also use WeatherBug
and it pushed weather to the watch --turned it off since I was getting multiple weather more or less the same times!
3. How accurate is the S Voice on it?
- S Voice does work, and I use it to respond to text messages. (So, if you get a text message on your watch -you can read the whole thing, and there is a menu to reply (settings: either 3-4 stock "canned" messages, or using a "free form" reply with S Voice. I used S Voice, but to do so you need to a) be in a reasonably quiet location (outdoors on a windy street does not work well, riding in a car with the window open and music playing does not work well...etc.).
- Secondly, I found I needed to think through the reply completely in advance and then say it slowly. Whenever I tried to create and speak and pause and continue to speak, S voice just caught a portion of the reply and offered "here is your reply shall I send it"? (no no no! delete!). However, when I knew exactly what I wanted to say, and said it slowly but clearly, S voice did well. I would NOT recommend it for LONG message replies on the watch, (Send several short replies -that works!) However, S Voice does not seem to be as good at dictation as Google's voice keyboard, or Swype/Dragon's voice type. It is pretty good at searches.
We are very close to Android Wear devices being released. Are you prepared to possibly feel remorse after dropping money on one of these and then just a few months later, new devices will be out that may eclipse them in function and app ecosystem? I bought and kept my Neo with the knowledge that its a stopgap for a few months and I'll most probably ditch it for Android Wear this summer. There's still a lot of missing functionality that the older Gears and even Pebble watches can do that need to be caught up because Samsung decided to ditch the old platform for Tizen. So it's pretty much like a gen 1 device again instead of building on the existing ecosystem from the original Gear, which means waiting on features, apps and stability/bug fixes.
Because I love the IR blaster and mic, I kept my Neo in the chance that devs can come through and fix/add the software/apps to address my problems with it. I don't know if an Android Wear device will come out that has the IR blaster, so I'm keeping the Neo for now. Even though the WatchOn app sucks right now, because it's very limited in what devices it can control.
You must be willing to gamble on whether those apps/software features will ever come around, because those of us who buy Samsung devices regularly, know that if you don't buy one of their devices that have decent developer support, you're kind of screwed due to their penchant to release so many new devices and subsequently forget about supporting their last-gen products with updates. We'll see if the decision to go Tizen will help or hurt this product. So far the app store is pretty thin and I expected there would be a bounty of awesome apps by now since one of the advantages of Tizen promoted was that it's so easy to develop on this platform compared to android. Given that, the only reason for the lack of apps I would think is lack of developer interest.
I don't have a Moto X (yet - waiting for the X+1), but I'd like to ask you guys a few questions about it:
1. Can you change the voice command to something other than 'OK Google Now'? Like maybe say "Hello Moto" or "Wake up, phone". I have no problem rooting my phone, if that makes a difference.
2. How much do you REALLY use the always listening feature? I really like the idea of it and I'm desperate to try it out, but I barely use voice control on my current phone now, maybe just the occasional voice search (which is only successful 75% of the time, due to Google Now misunderstanding what I've said). I'm a bit concerned that I will be buying a phone for a 'gimmick' which I won't end up using much.
3. This is perhaps a Google Now issue rather than a Moto X one, but is there any way to get Google Now to carry out actions with 3rd party apps like Facebook and Whatsapp, eg "OK Google, send new Whatsapp message to Melissa" or "OK Google, post Facebook status update".
1. Not possible
2. I use the feature all the time especially when driving. It'll let me know when new texts or calls are received and allow me to reply without having a data connection. It also very accurately knows when I'm driving or in the house. Also use it in the shower to get information on what time it is etc although the phone is actually in my jeans pocket on a hook.
3. It will launch apps but not WhatsApp (at least I've never been able to make it launch). It won't let you post messages to FB like you say but I'm sure it will have this feature with a future update.

Coming from your Nexus 5, it's a much nicer experience with excellent call quality. I also came from an N5.
1. Don't know.
2. I really like and use the always listening feature with the Assist Home. I can listen and reply to texts without touching the phone. I can hear who is calling and choose to answer (speakerphone), ignore (hangup), or let go to voicemail, again without touching the phone. I also initiate searches with the screen off with the 'ok google now' or 'ok google' with the screen on.
3. I'm no sure to what extent actions can be carried out by 3rd party apps. I do use google now to open system apps, as in 'open maps'.
Also I read that it's not possible to use any kind of secure lockscreen if you want to use always listening thingy. Is there any way round this yet?

Hey, so I'm an owner of an Samsung galaxy Nexus, Nexus 5 and an N6.
With my galaxy nexus I'm able to send texts, in bulk to hundreds of different people at once from one app. Then send texts through the stock app without my bulk text showing up there.
When i try on the n5/6 the texts i sent keep showing up in the stock app, making the hundreds of business associates appear in front of my regular texts.
Also there's a restriction of how many texts I can send through the app now, which is annoying and ruins my work. Yet owning both n6 and n5, I seem to just use the GN despite it being sluggish, it does what i need it to.
I've seen the Liquid fluid rom for the N6 can solve my 2nd question, but the DL link is dead and google just sends me to deadends.
tl;dr
How do I stop the stock sms app from showing texts from my group sms app?
How do I remove the restriction of sms sent?
The solution can be for either the N5 or N6, I'd just like to be able to use either of them for what I need.

You cant. It all uses one system. You also cant remove the limit it is set there by google to prevent spamming. While some roms claim to bypass it the carriers also block part of them if they detect something like that. Which sets off all types of alarms.
yes android 4.2 can

well, i own said 3 (!) nexus phones. i am handicapped depending on help from pca's -personal care assistants. if one is sick i am f-d and need someone fast. n text/sms is WAY faster than email. so i have a google contacts group 'pca' w 200+ pca's. Since i'm CLEARLY not spamming, ive rooted all 3 phones n with sqllite editor manually removed stupid smslimit n all 3 so all phones so they all send sms to my 200+ pca's when i need help. BUT only said sluggish phone GN runs old android4.2 where i am not forced to get BACK 200+ sms... a) can i install android 4.2 or older on my n5 or n6? or even n7 ipad? b) how off this annoying 'auto-sms-back' in newer than android 4.2? c) whats tthe fastest phone capable of running a4.2 or older (flashing rom no prob)? sony z3? Thanks for any ideas
A: No.
B: That answer has already been given. See the post above yours.
C: Can't answer that. Other people will have to chime in.
