That's ridiculous. I'm very disappointed.
That appears to be an new limitation in AOSP 8.1, yes, so maybe not entirely Razer's fault though I guess they could have added it if they want. There appears to be a Magisk module that adds support via fuse if you need it. Search for "vold" in the repo. Haven't tried it yet but it seems to do what you want

Fat32, exfat requires a payment to Microsoft and I guess they didn't want to
It'll format your cards and it might make you think your card was corrupt and you'll lose your data if it's not blank

I'm using it in the actual moment on a SanDisk 200gb
I would return the phone if there would be no option to use a filesystem that supports files larger than 4gb

That's not possible. Put the actual card in your computer and post the fs.
Are you sure you mean exfat and not ext?
Wow this is disappointing. no wonder why i couldn't use my sandisk from my sony xz premium because it was formatted in exFAT.
If you use Magisk, install Vold. It will corrupt data first time (at least it did for me) so make a back up of everything before you do, after the corruption I just factory reset, reinstalled everything and it's working fine. I use my 256 gig USB c drive that's formatted as ntfs with it. I haven't tried it yet with other formats.
same question as you.
Does anyone know of an exfat solution similar to VOLD on 9.0?

Hi all,
I have a 32GB SD Card (SanDisk) in my Z1. I am using Media Go to transfer my music from my PC to my SD Card on my Z1.
The problem is that only 'some' of my music is transferred across correctly and other albums/tracks play as if they have been encrypted in some sort of way. The music I am transferring is playing correctly on my PC, it is only when I transfer it that it becomes a problem.
Any help would be greatly appreciated
*Just to add, I have no problem transferring the same music across to my 8GB card. I have two brand new 32GB cards and have the same problem of only being able to transfer about half the music, the rest is unrecognisable.*
Have you tried not using media go?

Maybe you can try formatting the 32GB SD card and copying all the music onto there again to see if it helps

Re formatted (exFAT) both the 32GB cards I have and still the problem remains that some data/music is not getting transferred. I have just tested a 16GB card (same make and specs as one of the 32GB cards) from my tablet and this works and a 32GB card that didn't work in my Z1 works in my Xperia tablet Z so it seems my Z1 is having a problem with SD cards over 16GB for some reason I don't know
Try Fat32? I find it gives me the least amount of problems. I have a sandisk 64gb in my Z1 and it works just fine. Windows won't format in fat32 natively for such a large size so maybe try the format sd option in android. I believe it does fat32 automatically.

Agree, I will suggest to try format in FAT32 because all the SDHC 32GB microSD are meant to use FAT32 natively so I don't know why you formatted a 32GB card in exFAT.

Windows will not because you have to use a specified application to format 64GB SDXC natively in exFAT to FAT32.
Z1 support exFAT and will not format in FAT32.

Absolutely not true. All the High-End devices not support all the formats like exFAT so is recommended to format them via specific application on PC and then insert the card to device. BTW, the phone will format even fake cards without problems, PC will not and you can check them as well.

Is that specific phone using a special unknown partition system for the card? I don't think so. The phones are this days build with market standards including SDHC and SDXC compatibility. SDHC natively use FAT32, SDXC natively use exFAT. Not all phones support SDXC so the card have to be formatted in FAT32 to make it functional and the only way is to use specific application on PC. Formatting the SD on PC also is more efficient than OS of the phones and the main reason is that OS of any phone can't verified a faulty or fake SD card so you can losing data without even know why.

Sorry man, you are usually on point, but with this you are talking nonsense.
I have never seen or heard of an Android phone which didn't use FAT32 or exFAT, nor one that made arbitrary partions. Further, if the phone doesn't support exFAT, obviously it won't format the card to use the exFAT file system. The bit about a PC being more efficient is just total nonsense. I have formatted several different size/brand SD cards on this phone and others without having issues using them in the phone or a PC or other Android device, even. If you can satisfactorily back up anything you've said, I'll change my mind.

Right, but a phone which support exFAT and FAT32 as well will not format the exFAT card to FAT32 end even if he dose the card have huge risk to be compromise. Speaking from experience.

I never said you CAN'T format the card on the phone. It will work anyway but on PC the formatting will be more deeply efficient because you using specified application to do so. On High-End phones the formatting can be good too but you can't say is well done like on PC.

Absolutely not, the class of the card is not an issue at all. If you have a SDHC have to be in FAT32, check it, just in case. The partition can be corrupted then will be recommended to format the card how you like.
But if your problem is the same as OP mentioned with the same application, to me the app is the main problem. Try to move the files with different application or use different media player to see if the issue still there.

Yes, seems a bit strange and I will suggest to check the card on PC with h2testw, just in case. If everything is ok with the card then is your phone and probably Android it self, in this scenario I will consider to flash different .290 FW.

Don't use media go. I think that that's what ruins your music by encoding it like iTunes which z1 doesn't like.

If you used to using Linux PC / Laptop, then best system file is ext4. Since Z1 didn't support NTFS regarding lack of kernel features (hopefully doomlord will add this on next build), then ext4 is the best choice.
But if you using Windows, FAT32 is your choice. But you can't copy a single file which larger than 4 GB (this is the lack of fat32), beside that fat32 can only formating a disk which not bigger than 32gb. In this case, you can create two or more partitions for your 64gb sdcard.
If there's any questions, let me know. Hope this help.

Do not mess up with partitions if you will not use some kind of installations where EXT4 is needed. 64GB SDXC have natively extFAT as primary Partition and its supported by Z1, best choice and performance, also it support more than 4GB per file.

With what Partition System did you formatted your SD last time? Minitool Home Edition I think do not support exFAT. I remember Windows 7 can do that and it will let you formatting the card in exFAT with 32k cluster size. If you can't try to find an application to do so.

Ok, just thought I'd ask as I get the option in my recovery. I've never used it but I assumed it would allow you to choose the filesystem to format.
It would be nice though
I'd say you should your xperia take care about formatting:
Aslong as its in your device it shouldn't matter what format the card has. In mtp -mode your xperia acts like a reader/writer. It also updates your file index by this method.
If you're using it as a external SD card you should use whatever suits your os.
Ext4 would be okay since there are open source free writers/readers available for Windows.
Still, any changes need the media scanner to run before your Android recognize the files

64 is SDXC and you forced the card to use FAT32, now you don't get the best performance from your card. All 32GB, and under, microSDs are SDHC and they use FAT32. I have 64GB SDXC and out of box is exFAT and I insered the card in my Z1 and it recognize exFAT very well. If you formatted the card with a wrong program you can compromise your partition system, that is why the Z1 do not recognize your card anymore after formatting. Try again to get the best from SDXC.

I just got a 64GB Class10 sdcard from Sandisk and it came preformated as exFAT.
I can't format it to FAT32 somehow, I'm only given the option s NFTS and exFAT.
Using Formatting Tools like guiformat.exe are giving me GetLastError()=32...
My Question now would be, would you recommend just using exFAT instead of FAT32?
The Z3C is the only device I own and is on 5.0.2 Stock Rooted.
Thanks in advance, great community!

No, but you can compile support into the kernel. It's under File System -> NTFS Support in 'make menuconfig'. I'll probably release my kernel soon.

Yep, any large capacity memory cards are formatted to exFat and almost always come formatted as such.
The kernel has native support for exFAT.
I used Moto X Force before, and sandisk 64gb sd card with exfat. The sd card work fine in X Force and PC.
But when I plug it into nokia 8 , system said it doesn't support this card.
So I have to backup sd card, format it via nokia 8, and restore all the thing in the sd card.....

Yep! That's one of the downsides of pure Android..
It is all about royalties, Google doesn't want to pay them to Microsoft so they don't support sdcards, at least in any other format than old old fat32... Exfat and ntfs are somehow owned by Microsoft...
And with fat32 we are able to use one single file no more than 4gb, that's the limit on fat32... So old so old!

I stumbled upon this issue when I was transferring movies for a long flight..
And those 4k videos you film with the phone, they get really large quickly.
So is there any other possible file format that both supports +4gb files and works with Nokia 8?
Seems stupid to format 256gb SD-Card with ancient fat32, which will render the 4k video camera feature obsolete.
unless you only record in smaller chunks or get by using the internal storage space for 4k videos.
Luckily I got the 128gb model so I can at least get by without the extra storage, but it also annoyingly limits the individual files less than 4gb on the 256gb card. What a waste...
