Hello,
How can I made a shortcut to have an app restarting from scratch, i.e. a dictionary, from scratch. I am bored to have it reopened with the last word, and press the back button to be able to type a new word.
At the first launchof the dictionary, the app doesn't have the last word open, so I needn't press the back button before entering a new word.
Would it be possible to make a shortcut in tasker that kills the app, before restarting it?
How can I do that?
Thank you.
Just use a shortcut to a task with a "launch app" action for the dictionary app and make sure to check "always start new copy".

Hi all.
I stumbled apon tasker after i wanted my A8 to do a specific action.
What i would like to do is set up the profile needed but i am a little slow with this app.
I want my bluetooth to turn on when a specific app starts. This app is an insurance app and records my driving and always starts when i get into my car. Then when the app stops recording telematics, the bluetooth to turn off.
Is this possible?
Yes it's possible.
The profile context is your insurance app so the trigger happens when the app launches. The only action in the task is Bluetooth set to on.
You need to make sure Tasker's accessibility service is enabled (if it isn't, you should be prompted when creating the profile context) and if you leave the default settings for the profile, when the app exits, Bluetooth will be turned off.
You may want to spend some time going through Tasker beginner tutorials to get the benefit of the app.

Thank you for your input. I have read through the tutorials and have activated the accessibility settings and created what i thought was a correct profile but it doesnt seem to turn on bluetooth if i open the app or it launches automatically. Could you possibly lay out step by step the measures needed, possibly i got the parameters wrong?

It's better to share your profile when it's not working as expected.
Make sure it's named - not a default name assigned by tasker. To name the profile of it isn't already, long press on the name to highlight the profile and tap the square with the A.
Then long press on the name to highlight the profile. Go to the 3-dot menu and select export -> Description to Clipboard.
Now you'll be able to paste it. Be aware, it easier to use pastebin and link to a post here. If you paste in a post here, the forum software will convert all semicolons with characters after, typically "on" and "off" to emoticons making it very hard to read.

As you can tell in depth tech like this is a struggle to me, however I enjoy the features it can do from what I've read.

The "Perform Task" action is something else entirely.
From inside the task, tap the + to add an action. Tap "Net" then "Bluetooth". Configure the Bluetooth action to turn it on. Save the action.
Now you have two actions. Long press on the "Perform Task" action and drag down to the bottom right trash can.
Save out of the task and out of Tasker. Now when you open the app, the Bluetooth should turn on.

Thank you, it works now, can't believe it was right there, obviously I just missed it. You were very helpful, im looking forward to designing more tasks now.

Hi everyone, thanks in advance for any help.
I'm having trouble getting apps to open when my Bluetooth headphones and also my JBL speaker connect to my phone (both performed seperately of course).
Phone is a Samsung Galaxy S8 running android 8.0.0
I ran the trial version of Tasker and it worked fine, when ever I turned on my JBL Bluetooth speaker it would connect to my phone and would open Spotify and by the time I got to my phone it was ready to hit play.
Then I got some new MPOW Bluetooth headphones and created a task to open Castbox when my headphones connect and now neither of the tasks, the existing JBL task and now the new headphone task work?
I uninstalled Tasker and went to the playstore and bought the full version and created the tasks again and they still won't work.
As a trial I created a task that opens Castbox when I plug in a headset and it that works works fine and opens the Castbox app.
Any ideas what might be causing the Bluetooth problems?
thanks again Jamie

There is not anything obviously wrong. The thing I would do is to try using only the device name or MAC address instead of both in the BT Connected context.
Edit:
The headphones are paired to your device *before* trying to configure the BT Connected context, right?
"find somebody that you think is undeserving of your compassion and give it to them" - Christian Picciolini
Thanks, that's exactly what it was. I was selecting the headphones and speaker from "address" instead of "name". It's working now.
Something else I've noticed tho, if I pair my headphones to my tablet in the evening and then the next day, for example, turn the headphones on my phone won't pair with them automatically. I need to open the Bluetooth settings in my phone and repair them again. This isn't Tasker related and doesn't happen that often so I can live with it.
Thanks again for the help, very much appreciated :good:

Glad you found the problem.
You might try clearing the Bluetooth app data and cache and see if that helps the pairing. When you do that, you'll have to repair everything.

Hello there,
Since I've tried almost every tutorial or guide to setup my S9+ tasker (which I've brought only for this function) to give me max brightness on incoming calls and failed (Yes, feel free to call me stupid, cause I am felling right now like that)...I am asking you to give me and others detailed guide how to do it. Thank you in advance. Please, keep in mind that most of us are not experienced tasker user and try to avoid shortcuts.
It would be quicker for you to post what you have that isn't working the way you want.

Post the actual Tasker description as I described previously. Then we can troubleshoot.

The AutoHue plugin using "Hue 2.0" works when I tap play. But it does not work when the task is triggered (when I arrive home after 6pm).
Here is a screen capture: https://streamable.com/ucnjs
The wifi is already on because the task turned it on when I got close to my house. But the lights didn't turn on until I played the task manually.
When I first arrive, it's in Car / Home profiles at the same time, but I don't see why that would matter.
It's so close to working. What's the problem?
It might be a timing issue. Maybe you need a delay before the action so that you are well and truly connected to your WiFi before the next action. What does the Tasker log say?
It's better to share your profile when it's not working as expected. The exported description provides much more information than a screenshot.

I didn't realize I had to be on my wifi network to use AutoHue. That kind of defeats the purpose, since I want my lights to turn on before I pull into my driveway.
I used IFTTT for a year or so to trigger my lights when I get near my house. It worked fine and consistently until recently. Now, there is a delay that varies from a few minutes to like 30 minutes.
This shouldn't be that difficult. I just want my Hue lights to come on when I get close to my house...
Actually, I assumed you were connecting via your home WiFi. If you are using an internet service, maybe you should run that action first before it attempts to connect to your home WiFi.
Troubleshooting might be easier if you look at the Tasker log, try an abbreviated task to focus on the problem and/or post the task so we're not guessing what you are doing.
"find somebody that you think is undeserving of your compassion and give it to them" - Christian Picciolini
I ended up learning how to do a run shell in Tasker to trigger a Webhook IFTTT event. It seems convoluted, but it's the best solution I could find.
Seems like it shouldn't be that difficult. I can open Google Assistant on my phone and say a command to trigger IFTTT. Why do I have to go through all this CURL, APIKEY, Webhook, Tasker Run Shell action text, etc., just to do the same thing I could do by saying "lights on" in Google Assistant?
Because Google Assistant is doing all of that behind the scenes for you.

Right. It just seems like a plugin or something should be similarly easy for Tasker.
I've noticed Hue's bridge to internet is a bit slow, and if you switch from cell to wifi during the action it times out.
I would simply use your trigger, (location) and turn on Hue lights, then set a 5 minutes timer, then have Wifi turn on.
Hello,
i am from Germany and my Englisch is not very improved. To describe my issue i will do my best...
I have a new Phone, a Huawei Mate 20 pro.
I like to automate some operations and i use useualy Macrodroid for this. On other devices this hasn't been a problem but on the Huawei i have a problem to start Bluetooth automatically.
When Macrodroid starts Bluetooth I have to confirm a dialog per tap, if i do not Bluetooth doesn't start. But this is not automatically.
Is there any possibility to confirm this dialog (Photo) automatically?
Is there a Tool that is able to recognize this dialog and that may confirm it witout the need of manual confirmation?
I read that tasker can do this but i do not unterstand enough from Tasker and its Variables to create an correspndenting task.
Somebody here with an idea?
Thanks in advance...
I have never used macrodroid do I don't know about this confirmation screen.
I've never heard of anybody having trouble with a confirmation dialog using Tasker.
What condition do you want to cause the Bluetooth to turn on?
The way Tasker works is a condition (1 or more) is met then a task executes. The condition - called a context in Tasker - and related tasks which contain the actions which will be executed, are all contained within a profile.
There is probably no reason to need a variable just to turn bluetooth on.
For example, if you want to turn bluetooth on anytime you leave the house, and you have a WiFi network at home, then the context would be WiFi near and the entry task would have an action to turn off Bluetooth (you're home). And the exit task (when WiFi near is not true) would turn on Bluetooth.
There are many tutorials out there. There is a sticky post in this forum with video tutorials. There is also a beginner guide here and here.

Thanks for the answers.
This confirmation screen is an annoying Huawei thing, and it appears when every third party app starts or ends Bluetooth. The same confirmation is shown, when i try to start Bkuetooth with a Tasker task, no matter what profile or trigger. I think for that problem there is no beginner tutorial...
My question is:
is there a possibility to confirm this dialog automatically with tasker, even if the phone Screen is off?
You could use the AutoInput plugin to mimic the touches. It would be something like: Tasker action to turn on BT -> AutoInput UI query to wait for confirmation screen -> AutoInput enter correct response on the screen

There is this discussion in the Huawei Mate 9 Pro Questions & Answers forum.
There is also this sub-reddit that suggests the problem is a bug.
If giving were permissions doesn't help, the only solution I'm aware of it's been pointed out in this thread, emulating touches to dismiss the alert.
