So, received my Android Pie update through OTA and HDR videos now play properly! BUT, it also applies a yellow filter on the whole phone while the video is playing! There's a bug where if you play HDR content at night, this happens. I decided to test this. So I changed my clock many times trying to see what triggers it, and I've determined that HDR works fine (good white balance and no yellow tint on everything including system UI and not just the video) if you set the clock at 7.14am or later! At night time, all HDR videos play with a weird orange/yellow filter on everything! Night mode/reading mode is disabled for this test of course.
+1. I have the same problem in latest eu weekly rom and even on latest stable

I've noticed the color of the thumbnails in the stock Samsung gallery app differ when they're actually enlarged. Anyone else notice this? It doesn't happen with third party gallery apps, but I'd prefer to keep the stock gallery app simply because it plays back the slomo video. If you haven't noticed, check it out. Watch the vibrant reds/blues slightly shift to a lighter red/blue.
Now, I've experimented with this, and noticed it does this when the "Adaptive display" setting is left on. However, leaving it on and testing this out with a third party gallery app, it worked perfectly. The display adapted and the colors matched. Of course the color will be the same once enlarged so as long as you change the display's screen mode to "AMOLED photo". However, I'd prefer the adaptive setting because I don't like the warmer white tones when using my phone for everything else besides photo editing.
Leaving it on "Adaptive display", the software should know when I am actually opening a photo and adjust the colors so they're accurate. But now I'm thinking that there's a glitch with the stock gallery. The adaptive display setting is working fine with third party gallery apps, just not that stock gallery app. Which is sorta ironic....
Thoughts?
I noticed that too, doesnt really bother me.
What does bother me is how there is no "Capture" feature anymore what playing back a video and how trimming videos takes a ridiculous amount of time all while not being able to retain 4K resolution. My Note 4 trimmed 4K videos in seconds and kept the resolution.
Hello everyone,
I am in Xiaomi.eu and when I try to play an HDR10 video in youtube the screen blacks out and only sound plays. The touch screen is responsive so if you know the taps you can close the video and the screen will work again but I really want to see the difference in HDR content. Is it a Xiaomi.eu problem, or a general bug? Thank you in advance.
SOLVED: I do not know if this is a problem with the original MIUI but if the Contrast & Colors is set to Automatic contrast HDR works. I used standard contrast and that was the source of the problem .
When looking at a video on Youtube, HDR "visibly kicks in" (screen changes color temperature) and is visible in Youtube Quality settings.
The problem might come from the Xiaomi.eu rom or a setting.
BTW, you should assume, when using a custom rom, that it's always the origin of the problem, and ask your question in another way, like "Anyone on custom rom has hdr working" instead of thinking that it must be a Youtube bug lol
Hello there.
It seems that HDR is not working in YouTube or Netflix although i get the HDR logo in Quality settings (YouTube) or next to the movie duration (Netflix).
The brightnes does not seem to change like it should even though the slider is on maximum and the image does not 'pop' for example in bright scenes.
I have a Xiaomi Mi8 to compare it to and side by side there is a huge difference and the Mi9T pro should have a slightly better panel. It just does not look like HDR mode is enabled on the panel itself.
I have noticed the same thing on 3 other devices like mine.
I am on MIUI Global 10.3.4.0 on Android 9.
Has anyone else noticed that or is it just me?
HDR
I have noticed the same things and maybe there is something wrong here as I have seen in other phones that reading mode does get disabled.
Try YT Vanced
I don't know if my unit is defective, but on HDR videos (Youtube, Netflix, Mi Video, MXPlayer) you can see a lot of banding in the blacks and the jumps between colors (the dark scenes look very bad). I only found that this also happened to the Samsung S9 but they fixed it with an update. Can anyone check their unit with HDR videos with dark backgrounds? Thank you very much.
Mine Looks Great . Maybe you've got a bad unit
At night times dark videos looks like having some kind of noise.
I don't know what's the prb.
Are you on a custom ROM? I had these problems on pixel experience for the mi8
I recall on my older galaxy devices when viewing HDR on YouTube it would crank the brightness up to max on my S21 ultra this doesn't seem to happen now is this the same for everybody else?

AFAIK it is a kind of bug in special firmware versions.
On recent firmware versions, it should be fixed.
You can read about it here:

So I was appreciating the beautiful display on the Note 8 and it's abilities again today by watching a HDR video from YouTube on it, but I noticed something weird. Whenever I went from a bright to a dark environment, (lit bedroom to dark living...
