"Auto" Brightness - Xiaomi Mi 8 Questions & Answers

Loving the Mi 8, especially after the 10.1.1 update, however the "auto" brightness Useless. Virtually every time you unlock the phone in low(ish) light its reset to a very low setting. I've had phones from many manufacturers over the last few years and they all seem to have managed to string together a half decent auto-brightness offering.
Does anyone know of this is something they're working on?

I have the same issue
I love everything about the new update but that issue made me hate the update. Anyone with a fix? Appreciate it.

Not sure if the same brightness bug is impacting AOD too, which reacts to light levels but so aggressively at night that it actually turns off.

Auto Brightness on MIUI has always been dodgy as ****. There's workarounds - check out Velis auto brightness - but they're an additional battery drain since the app is constantly running.
I felt like it's not that bad on the MI 8 though.

Cheers
Just giving Lux Lite Dash a go and seems to be doing the trick. You can manually adjust when needed but then commit to memory for the next time a specific lux is reached. I guess over time, like most phones, it will then be customised how you like it.
Will see what battery life is like though...

So far so good. Battery seems to be at the same level with Lux Lite Dash running.

Lux Lite had issues in the end. The max brightness was lower than that of the phone. Switched to Velis which seems to have an option to allow the phones auto (and max brightness) to kick in when there's bright sunlight.

how much diffrence between Auto backlight&manual in battery consuming
is there any experience ???
nobody knows?
One week ago, I changed the option for backlight to 5 min instead of normal 30sec. I even changed the backlight on while making calls (tweak cabfile). I don't notice any more batteryconsumption. This is a overall experience.
I think more brightness on the display will be more battery consuming than backlight settings.

Thanks! I think you are right
What ever option you choose that cuts Electricity flow saves Batts.
So yes turning the screen all the way down when only doing calls and at night helps a lot!
Note also that the auto-dim function doesn't ever dim the light right down (no matter how dark it gets) - the lowest it reaches is equivalent to the manual brightness level 3.

Backlight levels & battery

I was just wandering what level most of you set your backlight to and how it affects battery life. Also, do you have auto-backlight set to 'on'?
Just trying to find a good balance between brightness and battery and so thought your experience would really help.
Thanks,
S.
Set to Auto here. No problems with battery life so haven't tried adjusting manually. I personally like the way it manages the back-light depending on ambient light

100% Brightness

Does anyone use this phone on full brightness and if so what is the battery life like? just curious because i'm thinking about using it on 100%
Thanks
Dude I'm sure using it at 100% brightness will kill your retina before it kills your battery.
Seriously though, I think they made some changes to the brightness setting in one of the more recent firmwares, because it shines with the intensity of a thousand suns now at 100%, compared to what I remember it's like originally. I used to set it at 50% brightness, now it's at 25% or so but with the same perceived luminosity level (non-scientific of course).
Do you really need it at 100% constantly?

Android 10 Max Brightness for Mi A2 Much Dimmer

I've upgraded to stock Android 10 ( QKQ1.190910.002 V11.0.5.0.QDIMIXM ), and my max brightness appears to be significantly dimmer. Is anybody else having this problem? There is a possibility that it's a result of my screen cracking (it broke the same day I got the update), but I also don't see much difference between around 60% and 100%. I have a new screen coming in tomorrow, so I'll test that, but otherwise I wanted to know if there were any software problems.
Ni...brightness is the same for me..or atleast it is not noticable fot me
no problem for me
Brightness seems fine here

Question Flashing maximum screen brightness

Hello again.
Does anyone else find that the maximum brightness of the screen tends to dim from a "normal" maximum heat to an overexposed one? It happens that I am using my mobile very frequently on the street and despite having the brightness at maximum, the screen is usually dark. But from time to time as the Operating System detects that there is a lot of sunlight and increases the brightness much more (that's precisely what I'm looking for, use that maximum brightness manually, not automatically). I can't find a way to adjust that brightness value, I thought "Dark Aware" would help me but nothing to do with it. Any way to turn up that brightness?
