Hi, I just got the Note 9 alongside the gear vr and as much as I am enjoying the oculus experience there's a few things I would like to do that are only accessible through daydream.
I looked through a certain amount of videos and forums, but they seemed to be outdated as the methods enabling me to do it, aren't available anymore.(or there's one but it involves paying on playstore for an app that looks dubious for my view).
Does anyone know any way that I could enjoy daydream with the Gear VR?
Try the app 'Play Cardboard apps on Gear VR' from VKingMobi. You will find it in the Play Store.

So the Gear VR SDK has been released here: https://developer.oculus.com/downloads/
It includes APKs for Oculus' Cinema, 360 videos and 360 photos apps and the source code for all of them. This is all apparently only comparable with the Note 4, so if anyone can test and report back if they can get it working with Cardboard and so on that'd be great
Big question for me is device support - tried installing the APKs to my Nexus 5 - they crashed upon startup (probably because I'm on Lollipop). If anyone can try get these, especially the cinema, working, that'd be fantastic

All the apks installed but it wont run without the gear vr. Each app just brings up the vr manager.

Would be great if someone could get them working on Cardboard
Cheers, well....seeing as the source for all 3 apps is in the SDK, maybe someone can build a version from the ground up that does not require the Gear VR/bypasses the Gear VR Manager?
Also in the Cinema app, the only scene that's available is the default home theater, so no big theatre, IMAX or moon layouts yet...people can build their own though.
Screen shots of the video included.

So you dont have a Note 4, don't want to get a Gear VR but want their work for low anyway eh?
There are already VR cinemas for Google Cardboard like
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6xsYwOEgrNo
And now leave our Gear VR Cinema alone, don't steal it

Hey i have a galaxy Note 4 but the Gear VR is nowhere to be found in France...
Maybe December...but probably january or even later...
Anyway, i would to welcome any headstart even if it means to use it in some google cardboard VR kind
Bumping because I came across a version of Oculus Cinema that actually starts up and everything on my Nexus 5...
http://apk-s.store.aptoide.com/app/market/com.oculus.cinema/308/8408322/Oculus Cinema
This is where I get to on my Nexus:
Now the next step would be getting the controls (apparently they work through mouse via bluetooth?) and the head tracking to work internally as opposed to through an external tracker like Gear VR or OpenGear http://www.open-gear.com/
So I got the Gear VR today. It's ****ing amazing.... So next step. How do I get this to mirror my pc so that I can use it to play apps set up for the Oculus Rift from my computer? Any ideas where to start? Must see Hawken...
Try https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.loxai.trinus.full

I think for now there is no good solution yet because of too high latency for VR. But if you want to watch your own 2D/3D/360° movies you can just put them on the SD card of the Note 4 to watch in Gear VR.

It works. But it's a method of screen mirroring to your device. Apparently there are some quirks that need to be worked out to get it fully operational. It requires an additional app for head tracking. Plus you need to basically mod every pc program you want to use to support what is essentially a false HMD. I'm still working on it.

I've also noticed a lot of latency issues with a lot of apps meant for cardboard versus the gear vr apps. Basically anything meant for cardboard is "ok" as far as head tracking goes. But the gear apps are nearly perfect. (you can use cardboard apps by sliding the phone into place while holding the usb connection tilted so it doesn't quite connect) As an example, I tried Vanguard V before it was released for gear using the cardboard version. The tracking lag was irritating to say the least. But when I tried the gear version, the tracking was perfect. This makes me hesitant on how well this will work in general. Though some of them are hit or miss on tracking. A few are almost as good as the gear vr stuff. Almost. I think the Gear VR headset may have additional tracking sensors built into it. After all, it says "mouse disconnected" when you remove the handset from the headset.
I think there is gyro in headset itself. There is folder called oculus in phone storage with "gyrocalibration" file inside

That also could be calibration on the phone gyro.

Hi, i'm new to the forum and so glad there is one as it's helped me out alot whilst lurking here as there is not a ton of info on the Gear VR out there.
What i'd like to know is are there any UK users out there who have MIlk VR running or is it impossible until its released here in the UK?
Cheers :fingers-crossed:
Yup I have milk vr running on my imported headset. With no issues. I'm in the UK.

Yeah got it running not long after i posted. Can't believe i forgot about Hola but not sure if some content was missing. Doesn't seem to be a lot on there.
The app doesn't appear in the Oculus store (when not wearing the Gear VR) when you are in the UK to download and install, but I used a VPN connection to pretend I was in the US and then I could download it. If you are already wearing the Gear VR, Milk VR appears in the store but it refuses to install it, giving an error.

I used the Hola app and it can be downloaded when using gear vr or without. If you switch back to UK it disappears from the app when just using the phone.
I have the same issue in Germany. As soon as i get off the VPN the app disapears. Really anoying . Does anyone have a workaround for this or a clue when MILK will be international avaibale?
I personally just use MilkVR to play my local content mp4's in Canada. (had to VPN to get the app to show up in the first place)
I put the phone in airplane mode and the app doesn't get removed. Works for my purposes.
If you want to watch any of the MILK videos, download them while on VPN, then in airplane mode they will still be there.
I see that people have successfully altered the gear vr consumer edition to work with the Note 4. This is wonderful.
But, I'm wondering, has anyone altered the usb plug so that you plug your usb cable in from your pc to the gear vr?
Yes, it would require some Dremel work, but the benefit would be having a decent vr experience while using trinus vr and tridef 3d with all your favourite pc games.
Considering the gear vr price right now (cheap), its similar to the freefly (google cardboard vr's) that let you plug into your pc while you use it.
Has anyone tried this? I'll let you know if I give it a go. Optimally, you could either plug your phone into the gear, or your pc cable (both options).
I am interested too!
Thought about just replacing the old original plug with a new one. But I guess the oculus store app doesn't start anymore then. Is there a way to start this app manually?
I agree this thread is awesome and it is something that will make some xda dev famous. I molded a consumer gear vr to fit the note 4 and it has been great. I want to play oculus dk games and apps as well as other pc games. If there were 2 things I really want to further the gear mods and make it awesome it is this mod and a way to make all android games vr I really want to play dead trigger 2 in VR unfortunately I have an att note 4 sm-n910a running 5.1.1 so no root so I can't use the new sbs android
Not tried tints yet but doesn't it work over wifi

Which att note? SGH-i717 (quincyatt)?
use package disabler pro to disable the samsung gear vr service. this will prevent the occulus app from launching. if you enabled dev mode on the vr before you disable the gear vr service you will be able to use it with low persistence. all of this can be done without root. tested it on my s7 with trinusvr trial
If you have a consumer vr can it be done the same way.

Sorry note 4 sm-n910a 5.1.1
I do have dev mode and the disabler app, didn't think to go dev mode first or use the low latency. My question is, is that enough? Enough to warrent not mod ding the usb from a charger to a full blown vr input? Is it that good or even good enough? I honestly think this mod would be a god send and whoever mods it considered a god. I heard they brought up doing it to oculus and it was denied. They didn't want mobile at a value to compete with a pc platform that would go for your wallet. On the other spectrum I also wouldn't mind being able to even simply use it as intended to charge my note 4 while playing vr. That would be nice too:good:
Oh yea one more thing is Intugame woth trying or should I just stick with trinus?

Yes, but way too buggy at the moment. Try Stream Theater for Steam (and non steam) games, works via Moonlight.
I can't see all the watches faces from my phone when comparing with my mother's Samsung phone. Is there a way to workaround that? For instance, when I search for a watch face using my OnePlus I can see the same results as searching from a Samsung phone in the same region as mine.
To install Samsung apps on a non-Samsung phone you have to check the compatibility of the apps with your phone. To do this, just visit the play store type “Samsung apps” in the search bar. Google only shows apps that are compatible with your phone so if it is there, app will be installed and work.

Look for sideloads such as apkmirror...
Not sure if it would work on a non-samsung device...
For faces, there are many apps with watch faces, also, galaxy wearables app usually takes you to the right location to buy or install faces...

Tried download two different versions from ApkMirror, but they didn't work. I just want to buy some watches from the official Galaxy App Store, but I can't find them using my non Samsung phone. :/
