yeah sure, nightlies are out already. just takes a bit longer cuz they decided to skip 15.0 (android 8.0) and go directly to 15.1 (android 8.1) once lineage is stable, we then need xiaomi to release kernel sources for the mi max 2 and only THEN, god forbid a dev decides to help us out, will we START development on an oreo rom for our device.
unless xiaomi comes first and releases a miui oreo rom

lineage os 14.1 is available for the mi max 2. im running it as a daily driver and it works very nicely its an unofficial port though, so mi max 2 is not officially supported. as mentioned before, we still need xiaomi to release the kernel sources of this phone.
there is not lineage 15.x version for mi max 2 in development atm.

check lineage os website. 15.0 was abandoned, theyre focussing on 15.1 now. no info on ETAs, as always

there is no oreo based firmware for mi max 2 yet. so there cant be a source code for it either
first, xiaomi has to release an oreo based miui firmware for the mi max 2, then make its kernel source available. no idea when that will happen...

OK I tried it the whole weekend. It's stable, I had no crashes, lags or anything. It has no extras like other roms but it runs very smoothly.

There's 3 variant, Los, mi9 and miui support, so whatever your rom requires there is a version from the dev, they're all pretty good for battery

It's just the type of FOD implementation, Los is lineage based and oss is open source, I don't really know enough about the dev side of stuff to tell you more
