Lineage OS 16.0
LineageOS is a free, community built, aftermarket firmware distribution of Android 9.0 (pie), which is designed to increase performance and reliability over stock Android for your device.
LineageOS is based on the Android Open Source Project with extra contributions from many people within the Android community. It can be used without any need to have any Google application installed. Linked below is a package that has come from another Android project that restore the Google parts. LineageOS does still include various hardware-specific code, which is also slowly being open-sourced anyway.
All the source code for LineageOS is available in the LineageOS Github repo. And if you would like to contribute to LineageOS, please visit out Gerrit Code Review. You can also view the Changelog for a full list of changes & features.

Fantastic and amazing work as usual ! , Great job
Good job man! Keep it up!
Nice job McFy
Hoh finally pie.. Hope this have VoLTE DD
Just kidding haha
Eh, woah. Good job!
Hats off to you.
Great work mate! Atleast someone is giving our phone some love :3 Keep up the good work... Installing right now and i will report how it goes
telephone calls works good?
proximity sensor?
and I got some problems in los 15 with black screen and failure to fully discharge the battery. ~1 year ago. Thank U
Good job, and thank you very much.
some questions if somebody can guide me out perhaps:
ok i ve seen around VoLTE doesnt work on lineage 15-16 etc but i dont know the reason why....?
im also wondering about VoWIFI, the equivalent of VoLTE but through wifi instead??? im currently on stock rom of android 7.0 on A320FL and theres an option on carrier's stock rom and its calling it wifi calling....its very very handy to be honest. Would that work on custom roms such as lineage 16 ?
Thanks a lot king! Just installed and all is working well so far. I will report any issues if found
Just had a crash while trying to change ringtones. When I want to, I can choose the "Sound" app or "Multimedia storage". First one crashes when I select a category, second one (classic UI) works perfectly.
After succesfully flashing the rom with gapps my phone would turn off after a couple of minutes in the setup and wont turn on
A new build is out with HWC enabled, thanks for all your support, batery and smooth are therefore a bit improved

VoLTE is not working on LineageOS for every Exynos devices as Samsung implemented it in a custom way on their framework and as it is on private sources, we can't know how they implemented it. Therefore until Google force OEM to implement volte in a common way it is nearly impossible to get it to work on any AOSP based rom. I won't work on it since my carrier doesn't support VoLTE for my phone and I don't need it. For voWIFI it's the same.
VoLTE is Often asked by Indians as many carriers such Jio only have LTE antenas so they can't make call throught 2G/3G network, so without voLTE they can't call, but as A3 is not sold in India I guess it's not your case . You will have to live without it if you flash my rom.

Could you be more precise like if you clean installed, tried to reflash or any extras informations.
Good work McFy! And big thanks for your investment in time and effort!
Something is wrong with the colors at LOS16.
Everything looks very bleak or yellowish, but if you switch to gray mode twice, the picture becomes brighter again.

i see, thanks for the info. well only vowifi is useful actually cause you get no issues with your calls, plus they sound great, when in areas with ****ty coverage which i happen to be in actually.
working at -1 floor with barely some signal or no signal at all then you really appreciate the help of vowifi not missing calls, sms, and generally not to worry.
ill have to think about it, other than that thank you very much.
Report Time
So i was using LOS 16 for first day and here are some results....
Installing method:
1.Fully reinstalled to latest stock from sammobile (all packages)
2.TWRP (official one)
3.Wipe system,data and install los- reboot!! - gapps(pico)
At first i want to say its absolutely amazing how it is stable ( i mean it more stable for me than los 15) , i had one freeze during whole day (i renamed my fingerprint , then go back click on trust and had like 30sec freeze of phone but it recovered) , but i was able to found some issues.
1. WiFi Hotspot is not working - i also tested disabled hardware acceleration for tether but it didn´t help , as for me this feature is extremely critical so please if you have time look into this , else i would be forced to downgrade
2. Camera app+results are super bad , app is very basic and result photo looks like from cheap camera from 2005 so much noise and undetailed.
3. I was to find that sometimes animations looks like they are stuttering in their mid-time , like it starts okay then in mid it stutter a noticeable way and then it plays out okay (im running first build so there is change that your newest build is solving that )
Besides this issues , as first build this is extremely good , thank you for the hard work and i will monitor where we can push our little device
PS: But please try to spare some time and look into that hotspot problem , its crucial for me ....
Also it is possible to just dirty install latest update without so much troubles ?
Edit: I forgot two issues
1.Network traffic thingy in status bar in not showing up at all ...
2.It seems that status bar icons are slighty misaligned , there is small gap from left (i wanted to add screenshot but right now i can´t transfer screenshot to PC)
A720F support?
i just installed the new build and it wont let me connect to the wifi

Pixel Experience is an AOSP based ROM, with Google apps included and all Pixel goodies (launcher, wallpapers, icons, fonts, bootanimation)
Our mission is to offer the maximum possible stability and security, along with essential features for the proper functioning of the device
Based on Android 9.0
Code:
* Your warranty is now void.
* Should anything happen to your device, I will be there to help you,
* but I won't be responsible for any damage on your device.
This ROM uses the LineageOS device sources completely. The only thing that I do here is sync (download) all sources and make a new PE build with them. The credit goes to the developers of this device, PE team and LineageOS team. I also sometimes make small changes to it.
This is the Plus version of Pixel Experience
Bugs:
Can't take picture with camera and flash on (it's either out of sync or just loses connection to the camera) This is with stock camera only!
No "Advanced display" menu in settings
Installation:
Make sure you have Oreo bootloader and modem
Make a clean flash in TWRP
And that's it.
Note: GApps are already included in the ROM (micro variant). If you want an other variant, then flash that.

That's related to Samsung's protection of some sort, it should go away after some time after a restart
Best 9.0 (or any rom) hands down
I have been trying multiple custom Roms from Nougat, to Oreo, and Pie over the last few days from multiple developers and there are bugs with all of them, some of them make the device unusable. I stumbled across this rom a few hours ago and decided to give it a go and WOW. It literally converts the A520 into a perfect pixel. I'm not finding any bugs so far. This is amazing work. Anyone looking for a rom for your A520, look no further than this!
@sheepkill15
Thanks for this. Will flash tomorrow and feedback over next few days.
Happy New Year
Very smooth this room... Improve performance for pubg mobile between others rom

Thanks man, these reports are really useful. I didn't know the battery saver one. Gps worked for me, so I'd be happy if you could provide a logcat or something to fully describe the situation
If you enable hwc, you'll experience random freezes, that's why I disabled it.
Until I fix the battery saver, you can use the powersaving governor, when I used it, it worked correctly

This it not a GSI. It is built on actual device trees
What's not working?
- The signalbar always shows 0 bars, altho this has no impact or call quality or data.
- HWC is currently disabled
Obviously Samsung's own features such as Samsung Pay, KNOX, Theme Center, Game Launcher, etc. won't be ported to LineageOS. We may have our own implementation to similar functions, though.
Iris sensor does not work because AOSP upstream does not support that yet.
IMS services (VoLTE, VoWiFi, etc). Samsung has their own proprietary implementation. It is not really possible to easily port that to LineageOS .

Troubleshooting/FAQ:
Q: I'm on a dualsim variant and (a) sim isn't detected.
A: Try reinserting your sim and rebooting. This wierdly nuff only happens on some* dualsim variants and no one has sent me a logcat yet.
Q: My mobile data (3G/4G) is not working/only 3g shows
A: Go into mobile network settings and select/create an apn, also select 4G as the preferred network type.
Q: How does this compare to GSIS?
A: Much better all around. Faster, smoother etc. I don't think there's any reasons to use pie gsis anymore.
Q: How good is the camera?
A: Actually,(by my standards), pretty good. Almost comparable to stock. Ofc the aosp cam doesn't have the fancy filtering, features and stuff but by far not bad. Alot better than 8.1 roms anyway.
Q: Safetynet doesn't pass?
A: Yeah, i guess that's a thing. Go into magisk and download some module called props hide or something. Don't forget to run it from terminal. It should work from there
Q: The rom isn't booting/camera doesn't work
A: Flash/make sure you have the CSB8 vendor and fw, and try again. This has been tested. It's prolly something on ur end.
Q: I have another bug; How can i tell it to you while slightly increasing my changes of it ever getting fixed.
A: You can tell me what's going on either here or on telegram WITH A LOGCAT attached(required);if rom isn't booting at all attach /proc/last_kmsg.
Q: I don't know what/how to logcat. Is it really necessary?
A: Logcat or gtfo
Q: How can i support you?
A: Awwww thanks; On most of my posts on the left side there's a "donate to me" paypal button;. Send the seal some fish. Seriously. The seal realllyyyyy loves fish. You can do that, donations are more than welcome, or if you don't have any $ to spare you can also post here about how awesome i am (this surprisingly helps very much)

Telegram link not working
Using latest pie (CSB3) vendor and FW fixed dual sim problems. Even apn is ok now
What performance are you having guys ? Is it perceptibly faster/smoother/OnePlus 6t mcLaren/super Megagiga fast/ultra instinct mode than let's say v15 Soldier ROM ?
Tinkered a bit with it, its stable enough for daily use for me. Only real issue I'm having is no audio in Spotify but audio plays in everything else. Will be checking out battery life and post results later on.
Bluetooth - Good
WiFi - Good
Fingerprint Reader - Good
Face Recognition - Good
Signal Icon - Always looks empty
Spotify - No Speaker Audio (Plays Over Bluetooth Fine)
Oh as far as speed is concerned, I haven't had any issues what so ever.
Swapped from official 15.1 and got boot loop at Samsung logo, tried CSA2 and CSB3. Will try again tomorrow to see if I can figure out what went wrong.

Known issues
(mostly comparable to any LOS based rom out there)
battery life could be better (compared to 14.1) I guess : idle consumption is low, BT on the contrary consumes a lot.
camera doesn't work flawlessly (same as other LOS based rom)
Thanks for contributing
How is battery life as of your tests? How bad is it compared to stock and to other LOS builds?
What are the flows of camera? Is it only quality, or some functions are lost?
Keep it up! :
Hi, battery life is significantly better than last 15.1 build from Option58, at least when idle ; most of the "to-be-improved" consumption is related to BT.
Cameras flows are the one already reported for all LOS based rom (nothing less, nothing more) : quality seems sub-optimal, 16:9 needs to be selected in settings and from times to times crashes may happen.
Sir, wonderful rom indeed.
The only thing I want for my A5 2017 is a custom kernel for AOSP based roms. I know it is stupid to ask something like this. But please get us a kernel. This will improve battery using profiles, support for overclocking/underclocking, and just usual Basics. On the other hand this rom is fabulous, and would love to see it growing more.
I'm providing a clean LineageOs with microG build, i.e. no custom kernel.
The basic idea of this thread is to offer an alternative to the Google-based ecosystem.
Have you tested NFC? Is it working properly?
Seems so, yes.
Okay, after a day of usage, I've occured some problems.
Aforemention that I've done a clean install:
- GPS not working - High accuracy is on, yet neither GMaps, neither Waze can locate, saying that no GPS signal is available. I don't know if this is correlated with microG, if it's caused by some Google framework is missing - since that should be the point of microG, but it's definitely a problem.
- Login with Google is not working - I assume this is a problem rooting from microG, and my misunderstanding, but it would be nice to make this available somehow.
Apart from that, it seems to be a nicely functioning ROM, which is nice to see on LOS.
Not to only mentio negativities, here's something on the pro side: I'm using an Amazfit BIP, which requires constant BT connection to the phone. However, I haven't occured any unreasonable battery consumption caused by BT.

Why the names?
Yes, GPS is indeed not working ; location service cannot be accessed as well. I need to figure out why.
Strangely, this was working perfectly fine with (older) LOS 15.1 builds without microG.
Regarding signing at google, I will not look at it, but you can go through the https://lineage.microg.org/ (where do I report a bug) logic to find out where the issue is.
Edit: I've just installed GPStest and selected the "device only" option (to use the GPS only) ; it is now working. what puzzles me is that whenever I'm trying to access the security/location settings page, it will crash. I guess there is something wrong in those bits, that will eventually be corrected upstream.
The one with the dot is an accidental registration by signing in with Google. The other is the original which I use, yet sometimes I get signed out, and relogged in w/ the Google one. I'll contact MikeChannon to remove my alterego...

A possible answer could be that microG's network provided location is somehow not working, or not properly. If GPS in itself can locate, then the network based data should be corrupted or should cause some trouble, yet I lack the knowledge how to test it.
are you able to see the security/location page, and configure the location details (with last build, it is working fine now) ?
microG needs some backends to be activated for proper wifi/gsm triangulation/localisation to work, did you configure them ?

I had to revert to hadesStock, since this is my work phone also, so I'll only have a chance to test on the weekends and on office days.
Yet what I remember is that I had all possible configured in microG, nothing else in the setings apart from the basic modes.

Building without MicroG
Is there a way I can build this exact ROM without the MicroG implementation? It runs much smoother than my builds, I was wondering is it using a different device tree or is this just because of MicroG? Many thanks
It's just because of microG.

LineageOS is a free, community built, aftermarket firmware distribution of Android 13 (t), which is designed to increase performance and reliability over stock Android for your device.
Code:
/*

* thermonuclear war, or you getting fired because the alarm app failed. Please
* do some research if you have any concerns about features included in this ROM

LineageOS is based on the Android Open Source Project with extra contributions from many people within the Android community. It can be used without any need to have any Google application installed. Linked below is a package that has come from another Android project that restore the Google parts. LineageOS does still include various hardware-specific code, which is also slowly being open-sourced anyway.

Please read the installation instructions more carefully. Oreo firmware bootloader and modem is a must.
You can find the collection along with the guide in this xda thread.
I'm sometimes having crackling sound when listening to music
Turn off 'ok google now' functionality in google app settings. If you have troubles finding it you can as well go to settings>apps, find app called 'google' and disable microphone permission.
Does this rom support VoLTE?
No. And it likely won't in the near future. Samsung's exynos VoLTE implementation is proprietary and non-standard. It is not possible on AOSP based roms for the time being.
I have weird issues with camera (wrong resolution, issues with flash etc.)
Тhis could very well be an issue with the included camera app. Try a third party camera app.
Will you fix the bugs? Will this version ever go official?
I've already fixed everything I was able to. The main drawback is that our linux kernel 3.18 has become too old. Our devices starting showing their age. Because of this version will not go official.
My hardware keys light up whenever I touch the screen
Navigate to Settings->System->Buttons->Backlight and tick 'Illuminate buttons only when pressed'. You might want to reduce time on the scaler to 1 second, too.
How to switch to full screen gestures
1. Navigate to Settings->System->Buttons->Backlight and tick 'Enable on-screen nav bar'.
2. Navigate to Settings->System->Gestures->System navigation and tick 'Gesture navigation'.
I need help with google camera
Please see this xda post.
Help! I have problems with my bank app/my device is failing SafetyNet.
Try following this guide by Simon1511.
Nice to see this out, great work
Great job as always.
im glad there's still hope for a little bit of support for our rusty device
i know this is pretty ridiculous at this point but i really hope this become another galaxy s2 situation where despite how old the device is.. it still get more and more versions despite its age
Yea, but the S2 is more of a tinkerers device at this point, A5 is still usuable (at least on A11, broke my screen before I could test 12 :C)
Possible update with simple TWRP install (wo delete data) from 19.1 Unofficial? (I think yes.)
Very nice rom ....smoot and stable
Which one is better LineageOS 19 or LineageOS 20? Which one is more stable for daily use? Or is just LineageOS 18 stable enough for daily use for now?
How is the battery consumption? How is the camera?

I also think yes, but no one has tested this already. Note that you would surely need to reflash the same gapps package you were using before right after the new version flash.

I can't tell this for certain. It totally depends on your usecase and preferences. There aren't any unresolved bugs coming from previous versions (other than mentioned). Some people say however that the rom runs slower than the previous versions, especially with gapps. For me personally it was still ok.

Not worse than before with lineage at least. For what it's worth, there is actually a new lineage camera app now. And we were getting some good battery life results during the testing.
thanks for the update.

What does Network traffic monitoring do? I switch off Mobile data and WIFI for many apps in the app settings. Without Network traffic monitoring, does it mean that separate app Mobile data and WIFI switching off will not work reliably? Or is it completely unrelated?

I focused mainly on fixing rom bugs, so I haven't had much time to investigate the google apps situation.
But yeah they exist. They can be found using the link in the thread.
Flamegapps, Nikgapps and perhaps a several others are there for android 13 already.

I believe that is unrelated. It is literally broken monitoring.
network monitor does not work
backup doesn't work properly
why is the battery mah 3600?
nikgapps go doesn't work properly
issues :
using qr scan notification panel causes settings to crash, HDCP checking causes minor lag, SRGB doesn't work , network monitor does not work, nikgapps go doesn't work properly, backup doesn't work properly

Spoiler: Using Lineage recovery
1. Recommended Samsung firmware version is A705FNXXU5DVK6, but it will work on slightly older versions too.Make sure that the bootloader is unlocked.--
2. Boot the phone into download mode. Flash Lineage recovery through AP button in Odin.Download here. Note: Use TWRP at your own risk! It does not properly support new A13 roms with the latest changes.
Use Lineage recovery for the best experience, otherwise don't complain if your phone bootloops.
--
3. Boot into recovery (Vol+ and Power while USB is plugged into PC) Note: Samsung's OneUI wipes the custom recovery partition and possibly vbmeta while booting so try not to reboot into Android.
--
4. Format data and system in the recovery--
5. Flash the rom in "Apply update" menu. There are 2 ways to install:
On the phone: Copy the zip to a FAT32-formatted microSD card and install it in recovery.
With a PC: Use Minimal ADB on Windows. Open "cmd-here" and type
Code:
adb sideload <rom-file>
where <rom-file> is the filename (drag-and-drop the zip file into cmd window).
--
6. (Optional) Flash add-ons such as Google apps or Magisk in the same way that you flashed the rom.We now have a working ramdisk so newest Magisk works fine ^^
--
7. Reboot and enjoy

Screen off fingerprint not working even after enabling it from settings. However, to lineageos 19.1, it was working as expected.
Will look into that, thanks for reporting. You can use DT2W or raise to wake in the meantime
Edit: fixed as of 20221126
Still downloading hope no sleep of death
all good on the a70 (sm-a705mn) for now
thanks for the rom
Great work as always, thanks a lot
New update is now available, with Screen off FOD fixed (make sure you enable it in settings). You might also find that Always on display is turned on by default, it can be turned off with a quick settings tile. You also can update through settings app on the phone.
For OTA updates I recommend Lineage recovery and, if you need root, Lygisk. Don't report bugs with updates if you use Magisk.

Don't expect VoLTE on _any_ rom for a samsung phone, there is no implementation in AOSP. Official devices lack it too. No developer has bothered to do volte so far (and probably won't unless there's a good reason). Other than that, we're pretty much as bugless as we can get currently.

Apart from that, only thing you could do is use OneUI mods.. volte might happen one day if someone takes the time to reverse engineer it but so far we're out of luck. This is a problem on every samsung device on AOSP, and with other makes, YMMV.

It modded with magisk and safety net pass. Debloated and such. I really like los though.
Personally I'd say los is a great experience as long as 3G calls are not a problem, I use it on my daily phone which has no volte either, but at least is maintained officially
(Also in many countries 3G is shut down before 2G so I'm pretty sure 2G can still be used in those)
How to make dual sim work?
Works out of the box if you haven't messed with the efs partition and did a clean flash. You can also try 19.1 just in case.
vendor needs to update
Why? Even the security patch wasn't bumped. It's not so urgent, it was literally released today.

Use the lineage kernel, it's most stable and has good performance too. Older "mod" kernels will not work with android 13
My phone can't detect sim 2 on OTA builds but in the older builds it does. A705MN/DS.
