[Solved!] LOS 15.1: delayed Threema messages - Nexus 6 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hello,
I just installed LOS 15.1 on a friend's Nexus 6, using the latest official build and the pico-OpenGAPPS to get the play store working. Now My friend is experiencing delays in receiving messages in Threema: some time messages arrive hours after they were written, some times they won't be received until the app is opened manually. Some times, though, messages do arrive right after they have been sent.
No settings have been altered after the installation and no options have been fiddled with, and this behaviour is quite annoying. A messenger service that takes hours to receive messages is not quite what it is supposed to be.
There's an option in Threema's menu to renew the push token, thus re-registering with GCM. But doing so does not solve this problem. We already checked the other options that Threema mention in their FAQ.
Is there any thing that can be done to get rid of this delays? Did I use the wrong GAPPS? Do I need to install the nano version instead of pico? Does any one else have the same problem?
Thanks in advance for any help and clue.

Try disabling battery optimization for the app.

That option was already set to no optimising.

Problem solved by completely reinstalling LOS from scratch.

Go SMS / receiving multiple

I've been having issues with Go SMS, where every incoming message I get will be timestamped incorrectly (like 6 hours prior) and will therefore show up at the beginning of each respective conversation list. That issue only exists in Go SMS, the stock messenger app and Chomp work just fine so I'm sticking with Chomp for now. (don't lecture me on why one is better than another, I'm not here for that)
I've also been receiving messages multiple times over the last couple of days. I don't recall it being an issue until just one or two days ago and it's only once in a blue moon, but the same message will come in 3 or 4 times, and it happens with different people, whether my phone is already on or if it's off. Can't seem to find a common denominator here.
Just wondering if anyone else has run into either of these issues yet. If it's something that factory resetting and re-flashing doesn't help, I'll return it for a different one.
Same problem here. It has to do with the delivery reports. You'll notice if you turn them off the timestamps will be correct.
I've tried changing the 'change delivery offset' option which is somewhere in the GOSMS settings, but it only works 50% of the time..... I checked in my stock messaging app AND handcent SMS and the delivery reports don't work there either (it shows as Unsuccessful in Handcent, and a red icon in Stock Messaging). I've read somewhere around here that if you are having trouble with SMS, your sim card is most likely bad.
If any other users could tell us if their delivery reports work/don't work, we can sort of narrow it down to either a bionic problem, or just the sim card.
Gotcha, I'll play with delivery reports and see what happens. I didn't run into this issue with my Charge though, and I'm using the same SIM. I'll report back soon.
I had the multi message issue about a week ago, but after the Go SMS update last week it stopped. Haven't had it since and have not noticed a timestamp issue personally.
I have the latest version of GoSMS and it still does it, coincidentally for certain contacts though, mostly those on other networks.

I restarted my phone this morning and now everyone that I receive a message from, comes in 3-4 times every other message I receive... WTF.

Moto Voice Problems

My Moto Voice seems to be playing up. I've only properly noticed it today.
Here's how it goes when the device is sleeping.
Me: What's up Moto X
Voice: beep
Me: Send text to wife
Voice: Ok. What's your message?
Me: hello
Voice: Ok sending. Say or type a pin.
Me: 1234
Screen says 'message sent' but it doesn't send the message!!
Same problem when I ask it to set a timer!
I'm seeing the same problem on a Samsung SG3. There is a recently introduced bug in the recent Search update. This was reported on Android Central. Article here.
I'm glad to see it formally reported, I have been searching the heck out of it and coming up with nothing. I've reinstalled GNL, Search & Hangouts to no avail.
In my case, when using Voice Command for a text, I get a "no SMS app installed" error, despite having Hangouts as my default message app.
I'm hoping they get this sorted quickly. My phone has had this bug for the past week or two.
It's not your brand new phone acting up, it's Search software bugs.
Right I changed my launch phrase to something else and now I can set a timer. but sending a message still not working. I'm running the stock Messaging app. Anyone else experiencing this??
Messaging still not working when using Moto Voice. I've note opened a support case with Motorola. I've made sure Messaging is the default app, used different launch phrases, tried restarting my phone.
Anyone else experiencing this?
My voice command text messaging is back. I recieved a Gmail update the other day, probably serendipity. I tried voice command texting today & it worked! I can also set an alarm via voice command, but not the countdown timer. The alarm is used for all timer sets now. Go figure, maybe server side on Google's part.
Motorola advised me to restart in safe mode and try again but no luck.
Now they're advising me to do a factory reset of the phone but I'm reluctant to do this as I'll lose ALL my settings and apps. Will try and make some time tonight or tomorrow to perform this. Will need to make a list of all my apps and folders I've created.
Still no go? That kind of stinks. They're just telling you the standards, factory reset, etc. Your apps should come flying back as you log back into your Google account after a factory reset. It's just time consuming to factory reset.
Moto Voice just released an update a little while ago. Give that a try.
I've managed to fix the issue after narrowing it down.
It was only not working when texting my wife. It worked for others.
I deleted her number from Contacts app and created it again and now it's working perfectly.
The Moto Voice update didn't make a difference as I tried that. Didn't bother with a factory reset in the end as it just takes too long and pointless.
Hopefully this helps others who get the same issue.

limiting GCM Wakelock Broke my SMS functionality

Title is pretty much explanatory of my issue. A friend of mine asked why I never reply to his texts, which made me curious. I'm using a brand new oneplus one and hadn't yet configured Amplify, so I asked him to text me, and it worked fine. I then limited the following: *netstats*, service state tracker, (anything with the words google, finsky, wearble, or sync (only google play services)) , and asked him to send a message again. Nothing. He sent 8 texts, I didn't receive a single one. He was receiving all of mine, though. So I tried unlimiting one by one until my limited list was empty again, and STILL wasn't receiving texts. I cleared data and uninstalled, and my SMS functions are still not working. I tried cleaning cache+dalvik from twrp, to no avail. My next move is to dirty flash, as soon as I'm done backing up everything. WTF?

Texts stuck "sending" and other issues

Ok everyone figured I'd come here to where the experts live. Haven't been here in awhile.
Recently my S8, wifes S8, and our sons S8+ all have the same issues.
The first issue is texts get stuck "sending". This happens with WiFi on or off, with wifi calling on or off, and I even tried changing off LTE to just 4G/3G/2G and even 2g in settings to see if that would help. I'm on the latest firmware from TMO ending in QEF, well we all are.
The other one is apps like FB and others aren't alerting but they will show the number of alerts even after they've been checked. I've reinstalled these apps and the problem persists, and then I can reboot my phone or wifes phone and all the alerts start working again for awhile and then die eventually.
The texting issue though persists and is random when it will hang and when it doesn't.
According to TMO rep at the store it's a bug in the firmware with bixpy that was pushed out, but I frankly don't buy it and figured I'd hit the guru's up here and see if you guys have any thoughts.
Thanks in advance guys and gals....
I too have had the random "texts get stuck sending" issue. I haven't had it in a while though (now that I've said that I'm sure I will).
I unfortunately don't have any suggestions.
I ended up using googles version of messages due to this. Only on stock text app do i have any problems anymore. I also noticed on the stock app that my phone would say "sending" when the other side would actually get it, but it was at random.
You don't have a cellspot repeater or router do you? Last time I had it, my device was hung and needed reboots. Just a thought.
Thanks for the feedback, yes I have a cell spot, but I also have the issue other areas of town too with no real specific place thatbit always happens.
I'm going to reverse back from the qef firmware and see if that resolves things. This has been so annoying, and it just started about two weeks ago.
Thanks again everyone.
I have had the same issue with sending texts too. I have been using the stock messenger app. I may just switch to textra.
Same issue here. A temporary fix, try turning on airplane mode and off. Works for me a times
Also happening to me on the XAA firmware (have unlocked NA variant) with the stock messaging and Google messages.
So I'll ask the question begging to be asked (at least by me): How does one disable this messaging app and use "stock messaging" app?
Thanks in advance....

Just get a app disabler for Samsung from play store like BK Disabler.
If I were you, just download Android Messages. It's simple and fast.
However, I do not recommend disabling stock messaging, unless you don't like getting EAS (Amber/Weather/Presidential Alert)
Having the exact same issues and it's driving me crazy because I really like this phone. I don't get notifications for any of my apps but when I open them I can see the new messages. A reset seems to fix the problem but it only lasts about an hour before it starts doing the same thing. I've tried using different messaging apps but the same thing. And the fact that I don't get notifications for other apps it can't just be a text messaging issue right?
Happened to me for almost 2 months but haven't had an issue in about a week. Called t mobile, they created a ticket and said they'll be working on it. Few days after speaking to them, problem went away.
This has been happening intermitantly for me as well. It's been bad the past three days. I'm currently in coversations with T-mo's engineering team and they seem to be coming up with a bunch of dead ends. It's not a location based thing as it's been happening over a 20 mile radius in the past few days for me. Other people on T-mo network that I'm freinds with or I work with aren't having any problems. I'm wondering if just a fresh SIM card could solve it?
I have data connection although it seems a little sluggish compared to when I originally got the phone. Similar to OP I've tried all the "G's" modes, with wifi calling on, with it off, with cellular network preffered with wifi calling on and off. With Textra, with stock messaging app. I've factory reset to no avail. I've pulled and re-inserted the SIM card to no avail. This is incredibly frustrating for a flagship phone on a network where I've had no previous issues.
UPDATE: T-Mobile sent me a new SIM card and that seems to have cleared up the issues. Not sure if it just hapened to coincide with T-Mo tower fixes or anything else like that in my area but I'm back to normal operation. Anybody else experiencing this I recommend you push customer service to send you a new sim.
my husband and i are having a strange issue where we can message pictures and video clips to other people that don't have the s8, or aren't on tmobile and they'll send and receive just fine, but when we try to send to each other, the first attempt to send fails, but the second attempt goes through?

i had same problem one of you is not using stock message app, if you check it ull find pictures all there i think its new messages plus thing

Can't download from play store

So I've got a couple problems that I hope someone here can help me fix.
I've only had my phone for a few days and things were going great until this morning. I received a text message and replied to it, but my response just sat on "sending..." until it failed. Once it failed I was able to tap on it to send it again, and it went through. Tested sending other messages to the same person and one other and I'm having the same issue. One person has a Galaxy S8 and the other an iPhone SE, so it's not limited to just Android or iOS users. All texts I try to send sit on "sending..." forever until they fail, then they send right away if I tap to resend. I've tried every supposed fix that I could find online to people that were having the same problem on older Samsung phones, but nothing has helped. The one solution that seems like it might help, I can't find on this phone. I've used both the stock Samsung Messages app and the Google Messages app, they both refuse to send messages and I can't find this setting in either app or in the phone settings. The setting I am referring to is called "message center" and it's supposed to be in the settings for the messages app, where you can change a number that corresponds to your carrier to allow text messaging or something like that. Like I said, I have no problem receiving texts.
My other issue is one I actually ran into on my Note 4 I was using before I got the 9. I had 8.1 installed on the 4 but I tried everything I could find online to try and fix this issue too, but didn't really have any luck. Now the problem has returned on my 9, I can't download updates or new apps from the Play Store. They just sit on "downloading". The download might finally start after letting it sit for an hour or so, but they won't initiate right away. So I've taken to using APKPure or APK Mirror to do my updates.
I've tried many things to solve both issues, but nothing has helped. The only thing I've not done is a factory reset because I really don't want to go through that already. Plus I did factory resets/clean ROM installs on the Note 4 and the Play Store issue always came back. I'm at wits end and am about ready to switch to an iPhone for good. Really don't want to as I much rather prefer Android and especially the Note phones, the 9 is a beast. But I can't take this Play Store issue much longer and not being able to send texts is not acceptable. So any help on either issue would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!
Have you tried changing your network settings? Have you made any modifications to your phone? Is play store problem on WiFi, mobile data, or both? Have you cleared data in play store and services? I think if you've had the problem with two of your phone, is there some commonality between the two? Some none mainstream apps or modification you did to both? If you've tried any and all fixes you've seen on Google, I think you need to factory reset, no point jumping through hoops to fix it if you're not willing to do a reset once at least. There are limited backup capabilities without root that you could use. But really you want to reset, and use as close to factory settings as you can for a while and see if the problem is still there before adding all your own apps and stuff.
What mods have you done to the note 9? Doesn't sound like a stock setup you got going there. Are you using the stock factory sms app or did you download an apk of it from apk pure?
My next question would be what network are you on and where and what model device.?
Sent from my SM-N960U1 using Tapatalk
The text message issue seems to have resolved itself. I'm hoping it was just an issue with my network and won't return. I'd still really like to find the "message center" setting that's mentioned so many times online though in case I need it in the future.
I didn't bother listing what network I'm on since these issues appear to happen on many models of phones and all networks, but here is my info. 512gb model Note 9 on Spectrum Mobile, who is using Verizon's network I believe. My Note 4 on the other hand is a T-Mobile version running on their network through Straight-Talk.
Both issues happened on wifi and lte.
Like I said, I've done everything listed online I could find. I've cleared app cache, app data, reset network settings, booted into safe mode, booted into recovery to clear cache, installed the absolute newest versions of play services and play store apks, and whatever else I've read or thought of. And like I said, I've done clean installs/factory resets on my Note 4 to try and fix the play store issue and it always comes back. So I highly doubt doing so will permanently fix it on the 9.
I've been using Android since it first was released and have been in IT for much longer, but this play store issue has me stumped. The 9 isn't modified in any way other than running a dark theme from the Samsung Theme app. I guess if nothing turns up here I will give it a few days and then do a reset if it doesn't resolve itself, reinstall apps slowly so I can see if one of them is responsible even though safe mode ruling them out didn't work.
You don't need to worry about the message center, I'm pretty sure it's not even a thing anymore, I remember it from the days of the Nokia 5110 haha. If you really want to know it and your messages app has a setting to add it you can call your network provider for it or look on Google for your networks message center, but I'm sure it's not even necessary, especially if your test messaging works, if you needed to enter the message center and you didn't, you wouldn't be able to text at all. As I said, I'm positive it's a thing just from the olden days anyway.
As for play store, I have had a similar problem in the past but it was always just a short lived issue that resolved itself, but if it's happening to you repeatedly then I don't know, other than a reset.
