i have got a note 9 which my brother gifted me recently.now the issue is he got an at&t one but where as i live in India.
So,naturally i tried to unlock the phone which was successful . But i use Jio 4G which needs VoLTE ,and i cant find any settings related to VoLTE in mobile networks. So i don't have any incoming and outgoing calls and messages.but i'm getting normal LTE signal and i'm able to browse internet.
and i actually tried to download the Indian version official firmware "N960FXXS2ARL4.zip" but when i try to flash it using odin it is getting stuck at "setting up connection".i have tried doing this many times
so is there anyway i can get this phone to function normally

That's impossible. Different model, different processor. You can't flash F firmware on a U model or vice versa.
---------- Post added at 12:08 PM ---------- Previous post was at 12:07 PM ----------
I see you're new here, but you might want to do some searching on the these threads and some research before you just start flashing things. Unless you want to hardbrick your phone.

You can't flash a different ROM on a N960U.
As far as getting VOLTE and those other features working, I have no idea, but I doubt it's possible.
To make calls and recive messages does not need VoLTE. You can do calls and recive them without VoLTE and same with sms/MMS.
Secondly never unlock your bootloader if you don't want to break Knox apps and Knox chip.

please be aware that i was answering to the fact the that the bootloader can't presently be unlocked.(probably never..but who knows)
in no way does this represent a phone's capacity to be network unlocked.
notice how unlocked bootloader and network unlocked are different terms and are completely different things that have nothing to do with one an other.

I recently purchased the G920T factory unlocked version on eBay, is it safe to Odin any T-Mobile stock firmware, any info will be appreciated, thanks in advance.
Once you above a certain firmware you can't go back. What firmware you currently on?
It is currently on G920TUEU3COK1 can I Odin to the latest T-Mobile G920TUVS3DOJC I understand that I can't go back but is it safe and will it function normally, thanks for the reply.
i have this same question because from what ive read 3COK1 is for Cellular South (aka C Spire). while the 3DOJC is for Tmobile, both under the G920t firmware. are you also on tmobile network with this phone?
What are the benefits of flashing T-Mobile firmware on the USA factory unlocked phone? I have this phone on T-Mobile and wifi calling works. I also get great reception. I assume this phone will get Marshmallow months before T-Mobile releases their build

Are you getting LTE on it.
So I flashed the C Spire firmware and it asked for an unlock code. I flashed back to the original tmobile firmware and it is still locked although it was unlocked before, but the device unlock app says its ineligible for unlock now.
Anybody else encountered this?
Call t mobile customer service and ask them. They can adjust their servers and then the unlock app will work.

I'd advise that you dont.
To unlock it I had to flash back to the original tmobile rom. From the tmobile rom, the device unlock app failed in different ways.
After i called tmobile over and over I got it unlocked (like 2 hours of calling).
Hurts my heart to see all the tmobile bloat, especially when i dont even live in the US, but at least my phone works

I think the benefit would be if the carrier doesn't release timely updated but Samsung releases it for the unlocked device. Or to get rid of bloatware preinstalled by carriers.

Correct. You must use a custom odin version to flash the unlocked version and the regular/latest odin to flash the carrier version.
And no it will not trip knox period.

A bloatfree stock Samsung rom. So no tmob/att/Verizon apps, unlimited hotspot, a few other things too but depending on the carrier you might not have voLTE , Wi-Fi calling, RCS, 4x4 mini, 256qam.
I stuck with the stock carrier rom because everything just works.
Updates are usually quicker with a carrier rom, but lately Samsung is releasing unlocked updates within a week after carrier
I've been using the unlocked firmware for a few days and it's been great. The bloatware took up at least a few gigs of space and I got those back with the unlocked. I also feel my battery life is better but could just be a placebo effect. Regardless I'm glad I did it.
I may flash it. Although, I do have Xfinity Mobile, and I was shocked that nothing Comcast came on the device.

Hello,
I have flashed unlocked firmware to network unlocked T-Mobile Note 8s without tripping Knox yet.
I have also flashed specific CSCs to T-Mobile Note 8s without issue.
In each instance I used the Prince Comsy version of Odin.
So if i don't care about Samsung pay do I care of Knox is tripped? I just want AOSP on this stupid note 88
As long as your phone is unlocked meaning it takes any sim card then flashing say BTU firmware which is Samsung own international unlocked version then it will be fine and Knox will not be triggered as it's stock firmware. But big thing make sure your phone is unlocked and not carrier branded locked to a specific network because I understand it will brick your device. Always allow oem unlocking in developer options.

www.sammobile.com goto firmware section and look for your model (eg. SM-G97*U1).
www.updato.com search for your model.
Download samfirm.exe or the Frija app and odin and use either samfirm.exe or frija to download your firmware. Then use odin to install firmware.
This is a Note 8 forum so look at the s10 forum for a guide to go from SM-G97*U to SM-G97*U1 .
i ended up switching to a note 8 last week and i cant get updates even though i am using an att sim card on an att phone, this phone was given to me by a family member and it was frp locked but i got it unlocked, it was on the march update but because of the great people of xda i was able to update it through recovery to the april update, i couldnt go any further because i updated too far on bootloader 3 and couldnt get upgraded to bootloader 4 or 5, i tried odin but it will either immediately stop after clicking start saying 0 succeeded fail 1 but it doesnt have the red fail message and other times it will just be stuck on setup connection or initialization and i cant get it to work at all and i would like to get updates because maybe the note 8 will eventually get android 9(will be very late but it will be time to switch carriers anyways by the time it comes out)

7 day rmm lock state? Are talking about the OEM unlock switch in developer options? That's only for the exynos models Sm-n950f/ds. You won't get that on snapdragon because you have a locked bootloader. So rmm and the 7 day wait period doesn't affect you. But if its something else, sorry.
Your device is SM-N950U1 or SM-N950U?
Maybe take it back to att and see if they have any luck on updating the phone if not ask them for a replacement one.

So the rmm lock on the note 8 and above keeps you from enabling oem unlock for 7 days which could keep odin from flashing any firmwares official or not. My model number is N950U
If I can't fix it myself I'll just deal with it for now and get it fixed later because its not really bothering me too much other than I just got this phone from someone else

Yeah, but the thing is that the oem unlock switch might also be a switch that allows flashing official firmwares because it was also kinda like that on my old phone in the sense that if it was checked not only was factory reset protection disabled but it also allowed me to flash official firmwares without as much trouble, but I'm not really sure so correct me if I'm wrong

Okay you'll need the comsey Odin to flash the sm-n950u1 firmware on your sm-n950u model.
Do a search on how to convert sm-n950u to sm-n950u1.
On is Samsung carrier unlock version and the other is carrier version. (Doesnt mean bootloader unlock, both are bootloader locked)

Samsung changed that since the s8 days. SNAPDRAGONs won't get the OEM unlock switch at all anymore it's useless now so you'll never see it in developer options because they locked down the bootloader for the USA/Canada models which are snapdragons.

Looks like you'll need a new modified version of Odin for oreo. Read the first post on first page.

You'll better be on bootloader v3 then because if you'd on bootloader v4 you can't downgrade to nougat.
To find out the bootloader version it's the 5 number from the right of this n950usqu"5"crg7 notice the "5" that's the bootloader version.
You can find by baseband in about phone software info or dial *#1234# (look at the ap line)
You can go up but you can't go down!

Is it possible to convert via firmware update a Verizon sim unlocked N960U to fully branded AT&T N960U to get wifi calling and all the other branded features from AT&T? Right now I am using AT&T sim but when my device boots up it shows Verizon and all the Verizon stuff is there. Thoughts.....

I believe it is. It's a couple of threads on XDA talking about changing firmwares.

Thanks I figured it out.
Just in case someone stumbles on this thread I will post the solution.
You will need to flash the US Unlocked version of the phone then flash which ever carrier you want.
Just for clarification purposes, are you saying that once you flash the ATT firmware onto a Verizon device that all ATT functions work? Or did you have to also provision the IMEI to achieve this as well.?

sorry for the late reply. But I was able to achieve everything working on my device now. Brief description of what I did to get everything to work:
1. flash unlocked firmware
2. flash att firmware (not unlocked)
3. put sim in another AT&T branded phone
4. Call AT&T have them activate and provision everything on account as normal
5. Put sim in note 9 and activate wifi calling feature
6. DONE you now have a fully fuctional AT&T device, I even got an update from their servers.
I can go into more detail of the steps if needed.

I am looking for the AT&T firmware. I am currently in Kuwait and destroyed my phone. I had to buy an unlocked Note 9 version with the exynos cpu. The problem is I can't WIFI call or use any of the Volte functions my other phone had. Does anyone have the firmware for AT&T? Will that only work with snapdragon? I have already rooted this phone and it is ready to go. I need these functions so I can call back to the States.

This may be of help (instructions for all US Carriers apply) :

Haven’t used it myself, so, if you have any questions, check with the OP & others who've posted in that thread.

Thanks for the quick reply. It looks like I need to wait for Detonator to come out with the AT&T zip. It says coming soon so hopefully soon is in the next couple of weeks. That looks like the best route to go. This is the first phone I have ever rooted. I work with networks and sometimes software kicks me in the butt!

Since this will be the 1st phone you'll have rooted, be aware that, especially with Samsung devices, there's a couple of trade-offs that aren't reversible:
1) Samsung Pay will never work even if you unroot.
2) Knox features (I believe) are also a casualty.
There's an e-fuse, for lack of a better word, that once tripped on Samsung devices, cannot be reset. That's why even if you restore the phone to its original condition, those things will be permanently gone.

Thanks for the info. I read up on all of that and the trade off is worth it. I just need all the Volte features and hopefully the correct frequencies for the U.S. I had a note 3 forever and it got destroyed. I loved that phone. This Note 9 is awesome but without being able to manipulate the IMS settings it is a PITA. I just want to be able to call home from time to time. Emailing the wife is no fun especially with the tech available today. I will keep an eye out for Detonator to provide the AT&T CSCs and all that fun stuff. Then this phone will officially be outstanding. I do have to admit that the rooting process was fun. I am all about modified anything. Stock sucks. LOL

Im not a phone guru like others on here. But from my experience that is all I did. A really important step I didn't mention is leave the cable PLUGGED IN when you flash the unlocked software then the locked software. This caused my device to read the "sim info" and provision its self for ATT and get rid of the verizon stuff and install the ATT stuff. Hope this helps you out.

I flashed the us factory on my note 9 from Verizon. I have LTE voice and wifi calling. Didn't trip Knox. No root required. Any particular reason you want tmobile firmware?

Because my carrier is T-Mobile and my Note 9 came from Verizon. Can you provide a link to the factory firmware? Im hoping to flash to factory unbranded, then flash to t-mobile so I can use my video calling.
Thanks for any help

If you want call and text on other devices to work on a Verizon branded device you will have to convert it to an unlocked U1 device by flashing the unlocked firmware. Call and text on other devices only works with unlocked devices. The conversion is pretty stright forward and is explained in other threads if you search.

yeah... I just didn't want the hassle of having to root this phone. I hear the snapdragon version isn't as simple as it was in the past...

It has nothing to do with rooting. You convert a carrier branded device by using Odin to flash unlocked firmware on the device.
