Successfully Flashed TWRP - Huawei Mate 20 Pro Guides, News, & Discussion

I managed to flash TWRP on my mate 20 pro ( LYA-L09 ) but im positive it will work on all variants.
you must have bootloader unlocked. this will format your USERDATA so please be aware of this.
here is the following instructions to how i did it:
1. flash the twrp.img in fastboot - using command - fastboot flash recovery_ramdisk twrp.img once successful move to step two.
2. you need to format user data so that twrp to boot properly use the following command - fastboot erase userdata
once the erase userdata is complete, type in fastboot reboot and press enter.
3. you can now boot into twrp once in twrp you have to go to wipe and wipe data, please note this will take a very long time to wipe data so please be patient, it can take up to 1 hour or more, maybe less. so do it when you dont need to use your phone for a fair while. once the data has been wiped successfully through twrp, reboot back into twrp, wipe cache and then reboot back into twrp again. once booted back into twrp you are free to flash supersu or magisk
the link to twrp in my google drive is this - https://drive.google.com/open?id=1PitrcNjMMynbWXP5jGfeNUqKdt5hJpfN

Also please only do this if you know what you are doing. twrp is working for me with no problems and i have made a back up so i can revert back to it if anything goes wrong. so i suggest you make a backup before proceeding with rooting etc.

Jeah that did work

I typed it up quickly as I had to go out to dinner sorry will edit post with right command

Do you know if flashing magisk still passes safety net?

Can anyone give me a oeminfo for LYA-L29c432 ?

I patched the TWRP with the magisk canary fix for root, but didn't have the chance to try if it works. I flashed the TWRP but didn't do the format stuff as I'm on holiday.

U modified the TWRP from the first post with the magisk canary? When I flashed the modified version and boot into TWRP directly after flashing, I stuck at TWRP bootlogo.
Can u give me an advice?
Can u attach your modified TWRP? Do u have single or dualsim?

after flash twrp
fastboot erase userdata
then no stuck on boot
i have dual sim, you can send me a pm there can we talk german.

And then u just flashed magisk from TWRP? The 18.0? Or using the modified TWRP?

TWRP i have no patch.
Here a patchet boot (Magisk) flash with
fastboot flash recovery_ramdisk patched_boot.img
unplug cabel and boot with hold vol +
then you can install Magisk and you have root acess!
Hope this helps.

Would it be possible to use this on lya-l09?

Bootloader flashfail

I made a mistake and did not turn on the debug mode. So when trying to unlock the bootloader using the tool here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/moto-g-2014/development/ultimate-moto-g-2014-toolkit-t2979862
it dint work. Now I keep getting "UTAG "flashfail" configured as fastboot" error. I have searched the forums and it seems I need to reflash the motorola boot img to get it to work.
Someone please help me out with it. I am on the latest 5.0.2 update for XT1068 - Indian version.

heres a flashable zip if you have custom recovery, or just use the boot.img (5.0.2) from unzipped file
Code:
mfastboot.exe flash boot boot.img
That worked. But now having another issue
I have rooted a lot of phones but this is the first I am stumbling my way through it. I unlocked the bootloader by going to Motorola's site and then went ahead and tried to root the phone using the tool mentioned in original post.
So the tool pushes the boot.img and reboots the phone. Then even when the phones boots in TWRP, the computer keeps saying waiting for device.
Now when I try to do a normal boot, I get the warning from Motorola but then phone wont bootup. No matter how much I wait or even try to re-flash the above image.

Please don't use mfastboot. It is known for having problems with latest Android versions. You can use Minimal adb and fastboot or the the latest Android SDK.
Next make sure you have flashed the latest TWRP 2.8.4.0.
Wipe everything in twrp. Cache, dalvik and data.
MTP is a bit messed up (not just on our devices). Go to mount, disable mtp, unmount everything, connect usb and enable MTP. Now your device should appear on your computers file manager.
One last thing. Unless you flash the latest SuperSU 2.4.5, stock Lollipop will automatically remove twrp and reinstall stock recovery on the next boot (Actually there is another way. But why would you want to install TWRP without rooting the phone).

Oh. After many tries now I am stuck in a bootloop. The phones goes to the "warning" then reboots for 5-6 times before it actually starts up. So I am wondering what will be the correct way to go about rooting and clearing this mess. And I see only SuperSu 2.4.0 in play store. has there been a latest version?

So I went this way. I installed the recovery using the tool mentioned in the op. Installed SuperSU latest. Still when I go to bootloader and try recovery, nothing happens. I booted up the phone to see if SuperSU is installed and it appears fine in the apps. But the recovery wont load no matter what.
Another strange thing even when I am connected on 3G, I am not getting the icon.

Ok so this is what has happened:
1. I use the tool mentioned which uses the command:
fastboot.exe boot twrp.img
2. This causes the phone to boot into TWRP recovery. Then I installed SuperSU.
3. Rebooted the phone completely and checked the version of SuperSU.
4. Again went to the bootloader menu, selected TWRP. Nothing happens at this setup. phone doesn't boot at all. on clicking the power button it goes into normal boot
5. I tried going to the bootloader menu and running.
fastboot.exe flash recovery twrp.img
still no luck. Again trying to go from the bootloader menu to recoery yields no boot up.

Ok. Let's try this.
Can you boot normally into android? If so, please look if SuperSU is installed. If so, go to play store and install Android Terminal Emulator.
Open it and type
Code:
su
Supersu should pop up. Allow root.
Next type
Code:
reboot recovery
The device should boot into recovery. ( some people have this problem)

Nice. Until you can go directly to the recovery, be very carefull not to leave the recovery without having flashed a rom and SuperSU. Also make sure that you grant adb access by accepting the RSA key when connecting the device with your computer. Just in case.

I am actually fine with a stock ROM on Motorola for now. They have lesser fluff than samsung et al. The major reason for trying to root the phone was to get TitanBackup working, I have been preserving some apps at a particular version in my last phone. The only way I found to restore the app and data was to use TitanBackup. The whole unlock the bootloader was because of Motorola adding a step to do this.
Adding recovery was an addition just in case Motorola forgets about us 1 year down the line. Then might flash to CM or something

Oneplus 3 decryption Ultimate guide

Ok guys, this is a sureshot guide for
PROBLEM
* anyone wanting to decrypt their op3 but stuck at 1+ boot screen(Or not able to boot any custom ROMs.) and only able to restore twrp backups
* After using fastboot format userdata twrp and about phone shows only 32gb phone memory(where the hell is my rest of 32gb )
* Fastboot format userdata resulting in Stuck at boot screen or simply an unbrick trick to return to Stock OOS in unencrypted stage
SOLUTION
1. Use method 2 of Mega unbrick guide to restore your phone to stock partitions found here
http://forum.xda-developers.com/oneplus-3/how-to/guide-mega-unbrick-guide-hard-bricked-t3405700
2. After the flashing is complete do not reboot the phone instead reboot directly into bootloader.
3. In fastboot mode flash modded twrp 3.0.2.22 using command ''fastboot flash recovery recovery.img'' found here
http://forum.xda-developers.com/devdb/project/?id=15934#downloads
4. Reboot directly into twrp and using mtp mode copy latest elemental x kernel or bluspark kernel zip for OOS and SYSTEM supersu.zip into the internal storage. System supersu.zip here OR directly proceed to step 8
https://s3-us-west-2.amazonaws.com/supersu/download/zip/SuperSU-v2.78-201609011115.zip
5. Now flash system supersu.zip and directly after that kernel.zip
6. Now again reboot to recovery directly and from twrp boot into system.
7. After boot up you system should be decrypted. You can check in security settings.
8.Reboot recovery and flash required firmware + modem zip found here
http://forum.xda-developers.com/oneplus-3/how-to/radio-modem-collection-flashable-zips-t3468628
9.wipe data +cache +dalvik +system
10. Flash any rom of your choice and go flashoholic, use multirom or whatever you want.
Pheww. Thanks.
Man, Finally the SystemRoot (V4A, MultiROM etc) as we discussed a couple of weeks back with this hassle at the Mega Unbrick and Decrypt guides threads...:highfive:
I saw your post on MultiROM but maybe it got moved I guess...
So are you able to cross flash anything now ?
thanks.

Yes you can but you will be encrypted again. so after msm method reboot fastboot and flash modded twrp. reboot recovery flash CB or OOS. flash supersu flash kernel. Agin flash twrp.img from recovery itself and reboot recovery. After that reboot system and you are good to go. Make sure you have enough system space before flashing supersu and kernel. frow twrp file manager delete unneeded system apps 1st. DO NOT REBOOT in between.

[GUIDE] Fix TWRP Recovery Script Loop & Unable to boot

Hello!
This is actually a common "thing" across many devices so just because this thread is on the Oneplus 5 forum doesn't mean it won't work for your device!
So I know exactly what you're going through....
THE PROBLEM
You've flashed a Zip file, everything seemed to work fine, you pressed the reboot button.... But then... Black screen, blue LED (or something like that)....
You then try to reboot to recovery and then you see "Running Open Recovery Script" and you manage to decipher "Wiping Data", either you clean flashed your ZIP file and this is not a problem or you dirty flashed it and so you're screaming at your phone because it just wiped everything without you asking (I mean, this never happened to me or anything I'm just trying to imagine what it would look like :crying
You then try a few things but you're phone won't even get close to the Bootanimation and keeps trying to boot up into recovery and keeps on Wiping your data which is now non-existent.
THE FIX :fingers-crossed:
Method 1/
This is the most convenient and easiest method but it might not work for you, I'm not even entirely sure how I made it work for me... Anyway:
Once the phone has booted up into recovery and is flashing the ZIP, try the following:
WILL UPDATE AS SOON AS I FIND THE EXACT METHOD
-Taking a screenshot (Power+volume)
-Pressing the back, home and récents button as many times as you can
-Pressing the power button
Basically, for now until I'm certain on what gets you out of this script thing, press every button on the phone a few times (that's what I did)
Click to collapse
Method 2 [FAILSAFE]/
This method will work no matter what (if your problem is the one this thread covers that is), but it's quite teedious!
Step1/ Boot into the Bootloader (Power+Volume up)
Step2/ Install ADB & Fastboot on your PC (Google)
Step3/Download Stock recovery & TWRP
Step 4/Move both files to the ADB folder for ease of access
Step5/Type in
Code:
fastboot flash recovery STOCK_RECOVERY.img
(change file name)
Step 6/Boot into this new recovery
Step 7/ Ponder for a minute at how useless it is
Step 8/Boot into Bootloader again
Step 9/Type into terminal
Code:
fastboot flash recovery TWRP_RECOVERY.img
(change file name)
Step 10/Boot into recovery and wipe everything except Internal storage
Step 11/Flash ROM again!
VOILA! :fingers-crossed:
Hope it helped, if you have any questions, feel free to ask me!
Cheers, Matt
I had this issue when I was flashing various roms, in my case it ended up being that some of the roms were incompatible with data being formatted as ext4 (mainly oos based ones, but a few others as well) since I went full f2fs, haven't seen this issue. That might be something to consider adding, it's pretty destructive, though, as going with f2fs on /data formats /sdcard, too

Method 2 [FAILSAFE]/
This method will work no matter what (if your problem is the one this thread covers that is), but it's quite teedious!
Step1/ Boot into the Bootloader (Power+Volume up)
Step2/ Install ADB & Fastboot on your PC (Google)
Step3/Download Stock recovery & TWRP
Step 4/Move both files to the ADB folder for ease of access
Step5/Type in
Code:
fastboot flash recovery STOCK_RECOVERY.img
(change file name)
Step 6/Boot into this new recovery
Step 7/ Ponder for a minute at how useless it is
Step 8/Boot into Bootloader again
Step 9/Type into terminal
Code:
fastboot flash recovery TWRP_RECOVERY.img
(change file name)
Step 10/Boot into recovery and wipe everything except Internal storage
Step 11/Flash ROM again!
VOILA! :fingers-crossed:
Hope it helped, if you have any questions, feel free to ask me!
Cheers, Matt

Recovery vs eRecovery

Hi there.
I have been flashing ROMS since ICS (Ice Cream Sandwich) but for the last 18 months I have been a bit disconnected from it.
I am also new to everything Huawei.
I find a lot of times people referring to the eRecovery.
Where does this terminology (eRecovery) differ from the normal recovery, be it stock recovery or TWRP?
Is this eRecovery a Huawei thing or am I missing something?
Thanks in advance.
It is nothing to really worry or even think about. I don't think you can get rid of it or even if you could there is no reason. It's just second recovery which does a different things than the normal stock recovery. I think the eRcovery is needed for the stock update, but normal recovery isn't(not completely sure about this).
It is just good to know that device also has eRecovery, because there are some users who install TWRP and then they boot to eRecovery and then they think the TWRP installation failed.
I don't know is it just huawei thing.
Hope this helps a bit, even though it's a bit messy info.

Thanks for the information.
It has definitely given me a much better idea regarding what is eRecovery.
Much appreciated.
it's basically useless on this phone. it will never fetch any package nor restore your device. most people either just keep it and dont bother using it or flash TWRP over it. by having stock recovery as 'recovery' and TWRP as 'recovery2' you can have access to official OTA updates yet still being able to do everything you could do with TWRP

Nice! I am interested in that!
Keeping both recoveries and not loosing OTA sounds good to me.
Have you any idea how to accomplish this please? Any link or for that matter where could I download stock recovery for PRA-LX1?
Thank you!

flash this as recovery (fastboot flash recovery RECOVERY.img) and this as recovery2 (fastboot flash recovery2 twrp-3.1.1-2-v1-prague.img)

I was really trying to find the stock recovery for PRA-LX1 from somewhere. Very handy!
Now, having both recoveries flashed, I gather that there will be also the need to unroot when I want to receive OTA or not?

nope! you can install OTAs with root and unlocked bootloader (although you have to download and install FULL-OTA packages. basically just clicking three dots when you've received an update and selecting 'download full package' or something like that)
Hello! My Y9 2018 FLA-LX3 uses fastboot flash recovery_ramdisk for TWRP, but it removes stock recovery. Can I flash TWRP to the recovery2/erecovery slot? And if so, what is the command? I have ramdisk, so to flash TWRP I'd use recovery_ramdisk instead of recovery. So, do I use recovery2_ramdisk? Thx!

Yes, you can flash TWRP over eRecovery.
Since A8 and above you can not install TWRP over eRecovery from fastboot, only from TWRP:
- Copy TWRP file to the SD card
- Boot in TWRP, select storage - SD Card, select "Install image", find TWRP file and mark eRecovery, swipe.
- reboot .

Oh thx! But I don't like it bc my goal is to leave stock recovery INTACT. So, I've been also trying to use fastboot to use fastboot boot "TWRP".img That's my goal, even though it hasn't worked. That is my ideal solution. Thx"!

And what's stopping you from installing TWRP instead of eRecovery and then installing Recovery back?
No matter what your ideal solution is, this is the only way.
Okay. So, I can an have tried to install TWRP just normally using fastboot flash recovery_ramdisk twrp.img That works, but the issue is that I can't find the stock/original recovery.img to replace it with when I'm finished. I extracted the UPDATE.APP and found a recovery_ramdisk.img. I am kinda scared to try to flash it using the same command for twrp, so I haven-t tried it. Can u pls tell me if I shall do it So in theory, fastboot flash recovery_ramdisk recovery_ramdisk.img
Oh and FYI, that image was extracted from a working UPDATE.app I used for my particular phone and it has always worked, just that it restores EVERYTHING. I just want the recovery back when I finish with TWRP. I-m giving it away and dont want the new owners messing with TWRP, since it can do harm to the phone if misused. Thx!!!

DP3 Q Beta T-Mobile Guide

Not used to giving guides
TWRP Backup - https://forum.xda-developers.com/oneplus-6t/how-to/dp3-twrp-backup-t-mobile-magisk-t3952304
But you need to download the the QB3 update zip and upack the payload.bin with a payload dumper
Make sure your device is on international and unlocked of course
Boot into Twrp recovery and copy the system.img and vendor.img onto device
Flash both images in respective partitions and on both A and B slot
Wipe data after flashing and reboot into bootloader
From directory of the rest of IMG you've extracted you'll want use fastboot and flash:
fastboot flash boot_a boot.img
fastboot flash boot_b boot.img
fastboot flash dtbo_a dtbo.img
fastboot flash dtbo_b dtbo.img
fastboot flash vbmeta_a vbmeta.img
fastboot flash vbmeta_b vbmeta.img
Then reboot and done
Don't delete files just yet
Haven't tried but certain you can root this way:
After you've setup your device you can download magisk manager. Select the boot.img on you pc, in your dump folder, and copy it to your device again. In the magisk manager patch the boot image you copied, and copy that onto your PC
Now boot into bootloader and use command
fastboot flash boot magisk_patched.img
Or if that doesn't work try
fastboot flash boot_a magisk_patched.img
fastboot flash boot_b magisk_patched.img
And if device doesn't boot for any reason just flash back the stock boot.img
Enjoy
-About TWRP- (from my knowledge)
DON'T FLASH TWRP
I think recovery is running in boot.img now I'm not sure
But it seems we may need to patch the bootloader to have the recovery in there
Ive unpack both boot IMG from dp3 and Twrp IDK if they're made different but they look different unfortunately I don't understand enough to patch but hopefully that helps idk
So I wouldn't try flashing or booting into recovery it'll just freeze and flashing will mess up the whole device and you'll have to use msmtool again and redo process

It's not about patching.
Flash stock boot.img to both slots as I'm guessing you aren't sure which one your on.
I'll give u a twrp that works for qb3 also proper instructions.
T-Mobile version downside is we can't flash ota and we can't boot qb3 wth fastboot twrp so flashing the twrp.img now replaces kernel in boot.img.
Thanks, so I'll have to use the "flash recovery Twrp.img" command now?
Or, is it a custom one Twrp only for dp3?
And thank you by the way I'll probably post a guide using a backup from Twrp then
And I'm aware of checking the active slot with a command but I have trouble switching to the opposite after rebooting because of set_active command maybe I'm doing something wrong

Our recovery is built in boot.img.
Uploading now
---------- Post added at 10:10 PM ---------- Previous post was at 09:42 PM ----------
Boot to fastboot
fastboot getvar all
See which slot is active.
If it's slot a then this
fastboot flash boot_a qb3-twrp.img
If it's slot b then this
fastboot flash boot_b qb3-twrp.img
Once flashed choose boot recovery and once it boots u can flash stock boot.img back then flash magisk 19.4 while in twrp.
U must use USB drive decryption isn't working yet. Or adb sideload.
I've only tested this on T-Mobile version running qb3.
All credits to @mauronofrio I used his source with some modifications

Not yet, but if you flash the stock boot image after then would there be any point in flashing the patch boot before hand? And, what I was looking for is a more permanent solution. So, that it'll boot and you can go to Twrp whenever without having to use a PC.
If that's the case and it works then nevermind but I remember and if I'm mistaken that, even if you flash the Twrp installer it'll still boot loop after the installation.
If that's still a problem maybe someone more skilled than I, or even you, can patch the stock bootimg themselves. And, eveb get it working for the future time on Q
Maybe unpacking and looking inside the boot.img and Twrp.img, the repacking with the proper adjustments

I'm aware of the permanent solution your looking for. This is the first step. With magisk installed u can simply use the installer in my android file host by selecting modules push the + sign and find the installer then without rebooting install magisk direct install. Then u can boot to recovery with advanced reboot menu. U can also just do everything in twrp. After u flash twrp.img .

Just like my guide last month on OnePlus forums as I am jacksummers, even if u do this we still have no calling ability whatsoever. SMS is barely working and it still blows for us. I have been trying everything to get the whole thing to not only flash and install but be able to boot with no hardware mismatch... It won't work unless we can resign the firmware with OnePlus signing keys after changing everything to say "single" still. Since we cannot change the phone. There is still something in the phone that comes back as op6tsingle

Yeah u need to flash every other partition in the bin dump. If it tells u u cannot bc it's a critical partition then ya can't. Once u do so u will have full function and on calls. It's basically everything in the payload.bin but abl, xbl, hyp, and a few others that tell ya they're critical partitions. Once u do that everything works Perfectly.. my main issue was the call issue u described..but do as I suggest and all will work
