The denoising algorithm is for sure not so efficient in low light after UB. But we can't say that it ruins the pics...
I rooted my Xperia XZ1 compact. Now the camera is very grainy. How can this be fixed? I didn't backup DRM keys before rooting.
You can't. You lose some camera features after you root without restoring the DRM keys.
I've also rooted the phone but didn't do any backups of anything. I've noticed no difference in the camera quality before/after rooting. What did I lose? I've also read about photos turning green or something, what is that? What are DRM keys?

You will have lost some quality in your photos and lost access to certain features. What does your service menu/security screen look like? https://www.xda-developers.com/sony-xperia-android-pie-unlock-bootloader-drm-fix-camera/
Goodmorning everyone.
i have a problem with sony xz1 compact.
I state that I use it as a test phone to experiment, so I don't care about DRM keys, etc.
- I have bootloader unlocked
- I have twrp installed
- I have tested and installed several custom roms and the camera has always worked (without green photos for clarity)
- Kernel 4.4.78-perf+ [email protected] #1 Wed Aug 22 11:48:47 2018
From a custom ROM, I tried to restore the official Android 9.0.0 pie firmware - 47.2.A.11.228 with Sony Emma and the camera works perfectly for both front and rear photos and videos (without green photos for clarity)
as a test, again with Sony Emma, I restored Oreo stock rom 47.1.A.16.20 and here the problems with the camera started.
I'll explain
Immediately after the restoration of Oreo, the camera only took green photos both frontally and in the rear, but recorded videos correctly both frontally and in the rear.
I left the phone charging all night, and magically the camera started working again (no green photos both in front and behind)
I thought the problem was solved.
Instead it seems that when I activate the stock camera, randomly the problem of the green photos reappears and after 4 photos taken ONLY with the front camera, the problem disappears and the rear camera works perfectly again.
But if I close and reopen the camera stock app the problem starts again. So after 4 photos taken ONLY with the front camera, the problem disappears and the rear camera works perfectly too.
If I switch again from Oreo to PIE with a restore with Sony Emma (official Android 9.0.0 pie firmware - 47.2.A.11.228) the camera works perfectly (never green photos)
This is strange and I don't understand it
Did you also run into this problem?
Do you have any solution?
I ask because i WANT to use stock rom with oreo and magisk module to be able to use sdcard as internal memory because with andoid 9 pie stock and with ROM it cannot use
- Sorry for my bad english-

It's well documented that unlocking the BL creates issues with the camera on Oreo, so I have little sympathy for those that can't be bothered to spend half an hour backing up and restoring their TA partition. It's better to have it and not need it than to need it and not have it.
That said, you can try this - https://forum.xda-developers.com/xp...oted-kernel-hiding-bootloader-unlock-t3898711, but if that doesn't work then you'll be stuck with the issue.
Thanks for the reply and for not being nice.
Since I bought it used, it could be that the DRM keys had already been lost, don't you think ??
I have little sympathy for those who do not know all facts and sentence.

Me posting a link in an attempt to help you resolve your issue was me being nice. You did say, "I state that I use it as a test phone to experiment, so I don't care about DRM keys, etc.", so if you bought it that way then "I have little sympathy for those who do not know all facts" or researching a device before buying.
We started with some misunderstandings.
I really appreciated your help.
Each one buys phones for their own reasons.
Anyway, I solved the camera problems thanks to this post:

Everything works perfectly on Oreo stock rom 47.1.A.16.20 without green photos and with SuperSU installed

Yes, it would appear so.

I'd be more tempted to use a solution that is only a year old than one that is three. SuperSu in 2020=scart, Magisk in 2020=HDMI, but if it works and you're happy, that's all that matters.
just a test to see if an old folder-mounting app works
Please be confirm if I unlock Bootloader on Xperia 1 ll. A hundred percent i will get lost DRM Key, so what's about special function of image quality Creator Mode (not effective when apply), Dolby, DSEE, camera more noise in low-light and more like older Xperia devices. If you known something, please open my mind. Thank you so much for answers.
You can unlock nothing will happed & all work
Is it possible to root the stock rom without losing functionality on the latest firmware?
If so, can you point me to a guide?
I don't care about custom roms, weird mods or unlocking the bl or doing anything too crazy. Just plain old root to debloat and use adblocker + firewall.
I'm going to buy either the XZ2 or the Compact version soon. I assume the procedure is the same.
Sooo, this is what I was able to find out by googling and lurking XDA extensively.
The phone can be unlocked but you lose all kinds of sh*t by doing so, because on this one unlike the XZ1 you can't backup the DRM keys. It is still a mistery to me as to what gets lost. I heard camera quality, camera filtering, video effects including slow motoion, and audio enhancements. Rumor has it that you may lose the camera altogether if you unlock.
There also doesn't seem to be a way to trick the device into thinking it's unrooted or to bypass the DRM keys like on the XZ1 (drmfix). So once you lose these keys there's no turning back (cue dramatic music)
So, unlocking the device if you want to keep the stock camera working should not be done
Using temp root exploits is doable on some old firmware, but if you modify the system partitions the device will lose DRM keys forever anyway (so what's even the point?)
Also
The phone cannot be relocked once unlocked, just like the XZ1
Camera will work again on LineageOS
But camera quality is dogsh*t on LOS and lacks all the fancy slow motion effects
And you cannot get any of that back
IS THIS LIST CORRECT?
