For those of you that are using the Droid 3 on AT&T, how can I enable HSPA+ on my phone? I am using the XT883 radio with Hashcode's CM9. When scanning for networks, I only see AT&T 2G, AT&T 3G and T-Mobile 2G. When I use mobile data, the notification bar reads 3G. I am sure that the Droid 3 has the 850/1900 MHz bands required for AT&T's HSPA+. Is my phone showing 3G when I am actually getting HSPA+? If not, do I need to call AT&T and ask for HSPA+? I am buying a data plan for a flip phone, and using that SIM on my Droid 3, so they may have disabled it.

First off what are your download and uploads speeds on AT&T 3G? The D3 can support HSUPA 5.76 Mbit/s and HSDPA 14.4 Mbit/s. Download the speedtest app and confirm your speeds before calling AT&T regarding a non support device on their network.
I am getting 2413 Kbits/s downlink and 1589 Kbits/s uplink.

Here is a screenshot of my results.
Have you confirmed that HSPA+ speeds are indeed active in your area?
There is nothing that you should have to do other than enter the APN settings. The same wap.Cingular APN is used for EDGE, UMTS, HSPA, etc...
I have achieved speeds up to about 8000 or so on the Droid 3 with XT883 radio, only in major areas with good service. Chances are your area or at least the tower you are connecting to does not have HSDPA active.
You are indeed getting HSPA speeds. 3G (UMTS) maxes at 384kbps. 3G/H/H+ reading in task bar is really a cosmetic thing, don't pay much attention to it. It is the real speeds you actually get (as you measured) that matter. Try other servers too, NY often is busy.
I'm only getting EDGE connection /speeds from t-mobile. However according to a press release a couple months back, my area was supported (goleta/Santa Barbara area) for HSPA+). How can I enable this network or why am I only getting edge? I am using a Criskelo rom.
Correct me if I am wrong but international note can ONLY be used at edge with US T-Mobile. The note doesn't have the radios for the Baseband of T-Mobile frequencies. As I have read in the forums in the past only at at&t can connect the note for 3g, not 100% sure for the last.

if you are on GSM network .. switch to WCDMA only network in your network settings
3G/4G of T-Mobile USA uses a relatively rare frequency 1700/2100 UMTS Band IV (aka AWS). The Note can't support it. You choice is either stick at the EDGE speed or switch to AT&T(or its MVNO).
TMOUS is starting to refarm their 3G/4G frequency to which the Note will support. But I think it might takes years to get the work done.

tmous is rolling out 1900 frequencies so it will be able to get 3g and possibly 4g depending on where you are... currently there are members on here from the northwest that have confirmed this working...
as for the question at hand i would contact tmo and ask if the towers are running and where in your area to make sure... the auto gsm/wcdma mode should work fine because if you leave the area where there is 1900 and are on wcdma only you will get no svc...
Well here's the press release: newsroom.t-mobile.com/articles/new-4g-markets-nov2011
Hmm...I'm a total noob at this stuff and guess I was assuming I was gonna get HSPA+ due to it listing 1900 mhz in Santa Barbara on the Wirelessadvisor website in a zipcode search.
Am I wrong to assume that if the network is 1900 mhz band? Changing the gsm/wcdma didn't do anything. Guess I should contact t-mobile to make sure?
Hey guys
I got XZ C6603 today from handtec. I activated brand new LTE simcard at rogers store and set up lte apn.
Soon as I did that data connection rapidly changing from h+ to 3g for a while then drop the data connection and phone reception as well.
Seems like lot of ppl here in Canada having trouble getting LTE connection but I am having hard time getting my phone reception and H+ connection.
I'm not sure either XZ is defect or this phone is simply wont work with Rogers.
Any solutions?? or should I just return the phone back to handtec?
LTE doesn't seem to work with the Z on Rogers.
Go into network settings and network mode and change it to only WCDMA(preferred)/GSM.
3G and HSPA+ work flawlessly so keep it on those instead.
Basically the phone keeps searching for an LTE network but can't connect so it'll keep switching between the network modes.
I'm hoping there's a solution to this soon, because the Z can actually find the Rogers LTE network but can't connect for some reason.
Probably a work around fix that can be done. :good:

HSPA+ will probably be unpredictable on a regional basis - many North American carriers use UMTS1900 and the 6603 does not support that band for HSPA+ operation.
6603 will not operate on LTE in any band in North America I'm aware of.

I would not use a phone on Rogers that can't get 1900Mhz but ... You should be able to use 2600 LTE. Have you entered the LTE APN ?

HSPA+ works fine where I am on my 6603.
People have been able to get LTE on theirs as well, depending on the region.

My LTE worked for an hour the other. I've read the 2600 band is a higher speed band, but it has weaker penetration and more sensitive.
Im beginning to think that you need both 2100 and 2600 bands for LTE to properly work in Canada since Rogers have both deployed simultaneously. Maybe Rogers need to improve their 2600 deployement in order for the XZ to work.

You need band 4 and band 10. Each frequency is used for different reasons (upstream/downstream). Just having 2,600 Mhz won't do anything. It's already been confirmed by multiple users that LTE doesn't work in North America (AT&T, Rogers, etc.)
That's why the C6603 wasn't released in North America.
The leaked C6606 model should support it, as well as the ZL. (http://playstation.com/psm/certified.html)

Then how does the optimus g on rogers use lte 2600? The optimus g 2600 on rogers only have lte band 700/2600 according to rogers website. This is the first carrier phone to use the 2600 network I believe

Because it uses 2,600 Mhz (band 7) for the downlink and 1,700 Mhz (band 4) for the uplink (even though it doesn't list it in the specs).
(Going into the Service Menu on the Optimus G shows off its full band support.)
Without the appropriate uplink AND downlink support, LTE will not work.
Rogers has LTE deployed on bands 4, 7, and 10.
The C6603 supports bands 1, 3, 5, 7, 8, and 20.

Has anyone gotten their z1 LTE working on canada fido?
i've got a 6903, and i swear before i inserted the apn manually i've seen 4g on my status bar. could be just my imagination.
i've tried internet.fido.ca for apn and i'm limited to H+. when i go online and they suggested ltemobile.apn, i couldn't get data at all.

I'm on Rogers, which is the same service and I get 4G using ltemobile.apn. I'm more than happy with this and have been getting 38 mbit on speedtest.
I've not seen the LTE icon tho, and either I cannot get it in this area (which seems unlikely as I am in downtown Vancouver) or this phone will not do LTE as it does not have the 700 band.

I see a 4G icon and have not seen the LTE icon. I've read the manual and it mentions a LTE icon but not a 4G icon, but that's what I have. For all I know I am actually getting LTE.
I had thought that LTE was even faster then this, especially in major cities near antennas.
But from what I have read a lot of LTE users do not even get the speeds I am seeing so I am quite pleased with this phone's data connection as it is.
I am on TELUS and when i originally got the phone it only showed 4G. I have however updated to 534 and it now shows LTE. Hope that helps?

I'm on 534 now. Can I ask what sort of speeds you are getting?
LTE coverage on the Z1 is more spotty though compared to my previous Note 2. Also Telus lacks access to 2600mhz LTE from Bell/Rogers which offers higher speeds.
hey guys, if you are getting anything above 30mbps/download.. especially member 30 Seconds who is getting 48mbps, that's definitely LTE. I just wanted to confirm that you DONT need the 700Mhz to be on LTE. I called Fido on separate occasions due an initial 'not-so-bright' rep who take ages to answer my question and eventually needed to ask her co-worker for help (I don't know how they get hired.. lol) and both Fido employees have stated that ONLY 2100 and 2600 Mhz is needed for LTE. I questioned if support for 700Mhz is needed and they said no. I still am not able to test out my Z1 yet which is still in the box so hopefully somebody can come forward and verify that they see their C6903 showing the LTE symbol on Fido or Rogers.
The frequencies are used differently.
High frequency in urban areas for throughput. Low frequency for less dense areas, more range and penetration. So, what you"need" depends on where you are basically.

I just got the phone on Monday. With the original ROM and after taking several OTA updates, my LTE signal strength at home and at work was horrible. I'd get around -120 dBm and it would frequently change to HSPA and even EVDO.
One thing that I noticed is that on LTE, it was using band 4, which is 2100 MHz. On my Note 2, it always used band 14, which is 700 MHz. The lower frequency penetrates buildings better and gave me a better signal at work and home (not great, but useable).
I just updated to the latest T-Mobile ROM from the developer site. The LTE signal strength is a bit better at -116 dBm and so far, it isn't changing to HSPA or worse. However, it is still using band 4.
Does anyone know why my old phone used band 14 and this new phone uses band 4? I would think that the phone would use whichever band gave it the best signal, which would certainly be band 14. Is there any way to force this?
Thanks.
I didn't look up the Note 2's specs but I'd guess it didn't have band 4. What are you using to see your band? OpenSignal?

I just looked up the specs on Wikipedia. It says that the T-Mobile version uses band 17, but I know that the phone said band 14 before I swapped SIMs.
Wikipedia says the Nexus 6 uses bands 2 / 3 / 4 / 5 / 7 / 12 / 13 / 17 / 25 / 26 / 29 / 41.
This is from the T-Mobile Support site: "TMO uses bands 2 and 4 on LTE/4G & 3G". Also from Support: "LTE band 4(1700/2100), 17(700)". I'm not sure what to believe, or what is in use around here. Like I said above, I know that the Note 2 said it was using band 14.
On the Nexus 6, I'm using an app called LTE Discovery.
T mobile only uses band 2,4,12 for LTE. The note 2 doesn't support band 12. I never heard of band 14.

I'm by no means an expert when it comes to bands/frequencies, however, if the app told you the Note 2 was on band 14, I think it was lying to you. I'm pretty sure there isn't even a band 14 in the U.S., and almost positive T-Mobile does not run LTE on that band.
When (if) band 12 reaches your neighborhood receiption indoors should improve drastically. On band 4 I usually get -109 to -101 dBm. On band 12 I get around -89 to -94 dBm.
I have tried different ROMs and different radio modems. Nothing I do gets me a decent signal. Very occasionally I have had a moderately strong LTE signal, but even then, the download speed is only usable and the upload speed sucks.
The phone doesn't stay on LTE for long. It switched to HSPA and even EVDO most of the time. On HSPA, my old Note 2 got at least 2 Mb downloads. This N6 can't even get a kilobyte down on HSPA.
I don't know if it really affects things, but I read some comments that a bad SIM could possibly cause this. Is this true? If so, I'll drop by the T-Mobile store again and ask them to try another SIM.
I love the phone for the big screen and other features, but I really can't live with this lousy data connection. If I can't get this resolved, I'll have to return the N6 and buy another phone.
I might consider a Note 5 if I have to. It only has a 5.7 inch screen, but my Note 2 had a 5.5 incher. I don't really use the pen and the price premium is high, but I don't know what other phones have a 5.7-6 inch display, except for some Chinese phones. I don't know if they are any good, or if I could use them on T-Mobile.
Call me frustrated.

Yes, I am on T-Mobile. I meant Edge, not EVDO. Too many acronyms.
I just got home and even though the phone is currently showing three bars on LTE, the signal level is only -118 dBm, which isn't good. Speed test won't even do 1/2 Mb/s on download. This is pathetic.
As much as I otherwise like this phone, I can't live with this lousy signal issue. Unless someone knows of a fix, I will have to return the phone to Amazon. As I said, I have tried different ROMS and modems. I have also tried changing various settings that others have suggested (clearing cache, APN settings, etc.). I don't know what else to do.

Because of the choppy voice calls, as well as the lousy data connection, I am returning this phone and getting a Note 5. Although it is my personal phone, I also need a reliable phone for when I am on call at work.
I have spent all week on this and can't waste any more time. I need something that works. My Note 2 was reliable. I hope the Note 5 will be also.
Thanks to all for suggestions.
