Its definitely on, other devices can connect to it. Do I need to manually set the router to a certain channel or mhz? 2.4ghz is ok and does show up. Using an ASUS RT-AC68U (AC1900) router.

Hello folks.
I upgraded my nook hd+ from 10.2 to cm11 the other day, and it is suddenly not connecting to one of my routers. I checked the PW on the router multiple times and it connects to my phone and laptop with no problem. On the WIFI settings menu, it repeatedly shows "connecting" but no connection actually occurs.
The router I can no longer connect to, which is on my floor, uses 2.4 GHz frequency with 108 Mbps features. The router that I CAN connect to is downstairs and uses 5GHz frequency.
Both routers use WPA2 for security and there is no difference in password length or complexity.
Thanks for your help.
My first thought is that you may need to upgrade the firmware in the uncooperative router.
My second thought its that this may be somewhat normal since 2.4GHz has greater range than 5GHz.
My third thought is total confusion over how you can connect to an 802.11a router with an 802.11b/g/n device?

You cannot connect the nook @ 5GHz. There is no 5GHz antenna in the nooks. My phone (and yours probably too) has one but the nook hd+ does not.
Addition: There's only one antenna in the nook hd+ as well. No mimo and its garbage single bgn max 65Mbits @ 2.4GHz only.
Wifi in cm11 is a bit flakey at times - its a borked/early cm rom currently with lots of work to go.
Toggle wifi on and off if it doesn't work - this works when the password is good and it didn't connect.
At other times it takes a minute or two to connect.

5GHz is not just a. Its also for edit:n. Ergo don't need an a router. Something like bg @ 2.4Ghz and na @ 5ghz.
Here's an na 5ghz only ap: http://www.amazon.com/Ubiquiti-UniF...id=1391548701&sr=8-13&keywords=ubiquiti+unifi
Hey guys is there a way to get this to connect to 5ghz wifi when available but 2.6ghz when only that is available? My router does both frequencies at the same time but my phone chooses 2.4 when set to auto

if your router broadcasts both, you can force 5ghz by going to wifi>advanced>wifi frequency band>5ghz only.
I know you said you wanted it to connect to 2.4 when its available, but that makes no sense since both frequencies are always available, so you can force it to only connect to 2.4, or only to 5.

Hello robgee789,
If I understand you right, you possibly mean connect to 5Ghz at home but still use 2.4Ghz when out-and-about and it's not supported? Or when it's out of range in your house since the 5Ghz penetration through walls isn't as good as 2.4Ghz?
Your router should support having different SSIDs for 2.4Ghz and 5Ghz - since they're technically separate radios.
So you could have the following networks:
robgee789's WiFi
and
robgee789's WiFi (5G)
If you forget both networks, then connect to the 5G one first, then the 2.4 one after - your phone should prefer the 5G network, but still connect to the 2.4 if it's not in range. It just doesn't switch back very well when it comes back in range.
I could find the separate SSIDs but I told it to just use 5ghz the switch to auto and now it automatically chooses 5ghz over 2.4ghz cheers guys

If I enable both 2.4ghz and 5ghz in my router (d-link dir-850L) my T800 will only connect to 2.4ghz. If I enable only 5ghz it will connect to 5ghz. This happens with stock, modified stock, and CM ROM. I'd prefer to enable 2.4ghz for backward compatibility with older devices, obviously.
Have you tried to just set your tab s to only 5 ghz? Instead of auto
Do'h!! never saw that before. Thanks.
But then it won't connect to my old router on the other side of the house.
I found out I can set the 5ghz band to use a different SSID. That seems to work out well.
Try WiFi manager from App Store (Google Play). Has option in settings that should address your problem.
Here's the problem. I have an 802.11ac router at my apartment, with two access points, one of them on the 5GHz band, the other on the 2.4GHz band.
I want my N6 to be forced to go on the 5GHz AP every time, and shun the 2.4GHz AP. This is because at my apartment complex, everyone's got a 2.4GHz router, so even though my N6 thinks it gets a stronger signal in the 2.4GHz band, it will get ****ty bandwidth from the 2.4GHz bands, because everyone in my complex is watching Netflix at the same time. The 5GHz bands are clean, so I get get far more bandwidth there.
So how do I force my Nexus 6 to use my 5GHz AP, and not my 2.4GHz AP?
Yes, I know, you can go into the settings, and tell it to use only 5GHz APs, or only 2.4GHz APs. I'm looking for the setting that says "Strongly prefer 5GHz APs, and only use 2.4GHz when absolutely desperate." That way, I don't have to remember to go into the settings so I can get wifi when I go out for coffee.
I don't want to constantly fiddle with my phone. I want an automated way to make my N6 Do It My Way.
I used to be able to prioritize access points in Kit Kat, but Google thinks we're idiots, so they omitted that feature from Lollipop.
Also, being able to prioritize access points means your phone doesn't log into your neighbor's ****ty wifi that you used once when you went over for beer, when you'd prefer it used your own wifi.
Are there any Lollipop 5.1 compatible apps that let you do this?
Can you go on your router and rename the 5ghz band to a different ssid as the 2.4ghz band.
After that only have the nexus connect to the 5ghz ssid.

That's already done, though I found that the N6 "helpfully" automatically adds the 2.4GHz SSID, since it automatically detects it's going from the same device as the 5GHz AP.
How can it connect to the 2.4 channel if you remove it?
Like I said, make it only know/trust your 5ghz channel.
Completely remove the 2.4 signal
Evening.
I have wifi plugs that only work on 2.4ghz. I can not get my GP4 XL to connect to them when setting up. My phone only picks up my 5GHz wifi only 5GHZ. Is there any way in settings etc I can adjust this on my phone?
Thank you
Try changing channels on the plugs
change the channel on the 2.4ghz network, change it to 1 or 6, it should be 11 or 12 if ur phone/laptop is not picking it up
