Hello guys, i'm having a common and a strange problem with my mi8.
The common one is the not so good battery + drain with miui10+android9 on mi8, i did every tweak i was able to find, i disabled the non interactive scene, i set the preferred network as LTE/WCDMA and the battery improved a little but the main problem, that i can't figure it out, is that my phone, even when unused "during the day but also during the night while on airplane mode" keep activate his self when the screen is off.
I thought it was a problem caused by the ROM "i was using the xiaomi.eu stable" or some installed apps, so i decided to deep wipe everything and install the Global Stable with myflash but i'm having the same behaviour, even right after the format with no app installed, just logged in the google and xiaomi account.

What do you think is the problem here ?
firmware
You could try global beta, i used to be on global stable with 5 hours sot and when I flashed global beta 8.12.20 It raised to 6-7 sot
---------- Post added at 03:00 PM ---------- Previous post was at 02:59 PM ----------
Also I have a standby battery drain when I'm somewhere with bad reception, it might have something to do with your problem.
Stand-by drain comparison analysis
Maybe this is too much.. (35% discharge in 13 hours idle!). Were you on LTE/WCDMA? Bear in mind that just flashed MIUI has default options to search for more Wi-Fi networks, Google Nearby, Google Assistant, Ok Google, NFC, security settings,.... that may keep it awake.
Anyway, I think this phone discharges too much during night idle on cellullar connectivity even in LTE/WCDMA and good coverage (88 dBm). With teaked settings, it discharges itself 7% of battery in exact 7 hours, idle, which is better, but too much IMHO. (Airplane/off mode ~1%). System2Panel reports Cell Connectivity to drain 45 mAh in this time. The curious thing is that, another phone, Mi A1, at the same 7 hours idle, much less tweaked, same provider (even worse LTE signal, 96 dBm), discharges only 3% and indicates 7 mAh cell connectivity. That is, Mi A1 consumes less than half at idle. We're talking 3% to 7% discharge difference, not much, but cell stanby energy is consistently 6 times more, which is why long term, discharges more. (Average 9% total in 57 hrs, which is overall too much). More bellow:
Every two hours, you can see on Mi 8 graph, there are about 10 minutes peaks of 200 mA discharge (representing 1% in 35 minutes). Notice Mi A1 keeps flat on average. Cell standby is 9% total all the time on Mi 8, high enough, but the drain peaks doesn't come from cell, but every 10-minute unknown proces! Additionally, In a flat 30-minute zoom, Mi A1 cell standby is minimum 0.50 mAh (can't upload a 5th image), while Mi 8 is minimum 3.0 mAh, exactly 6 times.
Call me obsessed but I paid flagship money for a device that discharges on average 10% by night for me. Yes, I know, airplane mode, but a nice Mi A1 with less battery discharges less by night, and consistently cell connectivity is 6 times more in mAh on Mi 8. (Snapdragon 845 is idle, can't drain)
Note: I am on Xiaomi.eu 9.1.3, Sphynx kernel 2.3, debloated apks.

I suspect that the problem is somehow related to this, but i don't know what to change or fix.
Ok google disabled, no NFC but i have no idea where to find and how to set the are three options " Wi-Fi networks, Google Nearby, Google Assistant, ".
Can you please guide me ?

I have already read those posts but this is not the point, i kind fixed the drain related to the bugged "scene manager" and the mobile antenna, the problem is the incredible number of activation with the display off "see picture below"

I'm sorry but it is not solved yet in those threads. Scena Manager doesn't fix it. I don't deny there are activations with display off, but the consumption of the cell connectivity is high according to my tests, compared to other phones. It is consistent to me cell consumption with battery drain overnight.
Many people say cell standby takes high %.

Idle drain is high but yours is higher then mine, i'm on last stable (locked Boot Loader) and my drain during night with everything turned ON is about ~0.5% / Hr
This drops to 0.3 if i set the airplane mode and re-enable the WiFi. And goes to 0.0 if i disable the wifi too.
(OFC i've debloated the hell out of it)
One thing that could help, if you haven't already, turn off the interactive scene under battery - scenes

That 0.5%/hr, is average Screen Off discharge summary or the minimum discharge segment in Battery Historian?
Not sure if this is applicable to us. Though, I should leave this here.

Don't envy me, this device is a mess... Cell drain is really too much, even with good signal reception.
Tomorrow I'll share that bug report if you want.

Hi, well, I am on MIUI 3.28 (highly debloated) and my graph is as follows: I made 7:30 hours SoT yesterday. Phone activity is in sync with screen on although there are wakeups from wakelocks such as Google push services every 20 minutes or so. As you see my cell standby is 5-6% so I'm finally happy. It lasts on average for two days with good usage for me. I'm in peace now.:victory:

Anyone have issues with high Cell Standby? My cell standby is at the top of my list with "time on 8h 12m" (pretty much my entire time off the charger) and Time without signal is 0% (so i haven't lost connection plus I've been on Wifi at home the entire time)
Ive also only have about 52 mins of screen on time with light use and I'm down to 79%. The drain seems very high considering how I've used the phone. I just don't understand why the standby is so high or whats causing it. Im stock rooted and have r17 Franco Kernel installed, it seemed to have started when I installed the latest r17 but I'm pretty sure it would be a coincidence since the cell standby was always kinda high on my list but not as bad as lately.

If you don't use the phone and keep it away, obviously the cell standby will come first but that much battery should not be drained. I can notice max 2-3% of battery drain from 100% over-night on stock
If you don't charge your phone up all the way to 100%, the battery stats don't reset.
Otherwise I think it's sounds reasonable.
8hr stand by, a little under 1 hr screen, wifi on the whole time.
That's about 9 hours total + wifi for 21% or 676.2 mah used. I usually run with a huge stand by time, not so much SOT. I get about 35%~ a day so I charge up every three days.
If you're on WiFi and cell standby is that high then you probably have a weak voice signal connection. What colour is it on your graph? You can also check your signal level in Settings > About Phone > Status
I am software version shown in ss
I just bought the phone and only getting sot 30 mins for 10% of battery consumption i got like 4 and half hour of sot for 73% battery consumption i thought x2 pro have around 8 hr sot help me it's frustrating
Well that calculates to more than 6h SOT, which isn't that unrealistic if you used 4g and max screen brightness all the time, but there might be something draining the battery. Check the usage details. I see you use something connected to bluetooth so that might be causing the issue.
Bro i was using the brightness at 27% and nothing was connected to the Bluetooth
I installed betterbatterystats (bbs) xda edition and gsam battery app with adb rights. So you can see the deep sleep with bbs and the times of dot/phone time/ect and which app use how many ampere.
In this charging time I get 4,5 hours dot with 40 hours phone is on. I have now 34%.
Debloating, netguard firewall, no energy saving, always 90 hz.
Also i am having fps dropping issue during online gaming like pubgm or codm
What should i do to get normal 60 fps as this phone has 855+ so i can get 60 fps normally
I'm having even worse SOT and I have the same realme ui version.
I'm not as much hardcore user as a lot of you and looking at 4k mah battery I thought that I will be getting at least 7h SOT.
I'm not playing any games, right now most of the time phone is connected to wifi. What should I do? Debloat my phone? Is it somehow dangerous for my software? Can i ever go back to normal version?
location services destroyes battery on this device
i disable it for one day just to see the difference and it went from 4 hours SOT to 6 hours plus
always talking full brightness wifi some 4g 90hz
and from 100% to 1%
You have like almost 30 hours of standby, and if you use always on display, then that's at least 30% on that. If you consider this then it doesn't look that bad. You do the math. The other guy's stats concern me more.
You will need to make some adjustments, battery can be excellent but you have to be realistic,
Check out App quick freeze and freeze the apps you don't use.
Dark mode,
AOD off,Screen light effects off,
You just got the phone, tinker with it a while to see,
Also battery will drain a lot when your setting up the first day
I'm using xiaomi.eu 12.0.5 QFACXNM and the battery drain is brutal: 11% battery drain at night in 9 hours without touching the phone. No airplane mode, but wifi and data off.
I restricted almost all apps at background and problem is not solved. I'm doing 3h SOT or even less at day.
So... what's the rom with the BEST battery and the best SOT? I don't mind the other features, if it's AOSP I appreciate if I can install ANX camera and GCAM (both).
Thanks.

3h SOT is not a good result, don't you think? I was expecting something like 5h or 6h of SOT with a normal use... I know with 3300mah battery it's complicated but I don't use my phone with heavy apps, I don't play, only use instagram, photos, twitter, whatsapp/telegram and stuff like that...
I recommend PA.

for a 40h+ total with bluetooth location and wifi always on I'd say it's a very good result
I'll check both. I fully charged my phone this morning. 7 hours later, without any use (check my instagram and twitter couple of times and responding some whatsapps), it dropped 10% (to 90%).. At least six and a half hours were in deep sleep.
I think this isn't normal.
That also can be a signal for a dying battery as well. Approx. 1 % per hour in combined usage is a good average for AOSP ROMs. At moderate use, similar to your profile, the battery here last for four days with 4 h SoT. 8 h SoT over two days is possible but not what I reach often. Mi9 is running PAQ5.
Cheers

I was thinking the same. At this hour, less than 12h after the last full charge, and with no use at all cause I'm currently working at home, so I use computer (like I said, watch a couple of times instagram, reply to a few whatsapps and check twitter a little) battery is at 80%, with 30 minutes of SOT. Something is wrong, and maybe you're right about battery.
I'll try PAQ5 and crdroid with quantic kernel... despite I like MIUI, but xiaomi.eu is an extreme battery-draining rom...
My Mi 9 is running several AOSP ROMs since more than one year. Since then I've simply no idea about Miui and its battery consumption. Tbh I'm not too much interested in battery life at all. I'm not an outdoor guy having access to a power plug only once in a while. I'm living in an area where power plugs are widely available. So running out of power is not a major threat to me.

I usually have a charger near, but it happened to me that, in a long session of photos, or in a heavy use outside my home or my work, battery dies more sooner than later... and that sucks.
For example, watching forums or instagram, it consume 1% each 5-7 min, and more of that, instagram and web loading are not so fluent as it should be, so... I'm gonna try aosp for a while.
Crdroid, Paranoid and Iodé OS seem the best choices, I'll give a try to the best battery-saver rom...
Changing ROM only might not solve your battery problem, if the problem lies elsewhere. I use the same ROM and I could get 4-6 hours SoT per charge, over a day of use or so. This is a 1 year old device so battery is no longer 100%. If yours is newer but you get worse result than mine, then it's something in your configuration, not the ROM.
Sure, in these cases I usually carry a power bank with me. Actually I can't recall when last time my phone totally went off power.
For the AOSP ROMs I can't tell about battery behaviour. Things like SafetyNet, banking app and G-Pay are so much more important to me that I never considered changing the ROM since PAQ5 does simply everything I need.
Cheers
Toscha

I was thinking the same, battery duration is ridiculous. Last night, 1% battery per- 5-6-7 mins using kiwi browser/instagram. And 10% battery out last night with wifi and data deactivated. Now I have 56% battery with very few use of the phone. Charged it 24h ago.

I have miui 11 .eu rom, I have a post explaining how to get 8:30h sot
Your problem is xiaomi crap that are draining your battery and making the phone not measure it correctly.

Hello im using miui 11.0.6 with a new battery and i get 4:14 on SoT, what version of miui do you use?
I on my xiaomi mi9 I installed the battery increased by 4000mha, I changed the kernel values with a file manager by making the phone read the same battery capacity and I do six hours of display on! To do this you must have root permissions and buy 4000mha battery ...
the path to take with franco kernel manager is:
/sys/class/power_supply/bms/charge_full"
/sys/class/power_supply/battery/charge_ful
Through a file manager, that is the path to follow to edit the file
Help everybody,
I've bought the phone 3 days ago. Battery life is very bad, getting around 3 hrs SOT using Spotify, Facebook, Reddit and Instagram. Mobile data is always on, Bluetooth was on for 2 hours
Is there any way to improve battery life?

Ne Firmware should make things even better
I would try recalibrating the battery, I have found that it lasts very long after hitting 1%, and others have also found that the phone continues charging for a bit after hitting 100% (even with the LED being green). So completely drain the phone, let it charge to 100% and when it hits 100%, give it like half an hour more.
Also, disabling 5G in the Network settings should help. If you are underground (with bad cell signal), I would suggest you enable Airplane mode and then enable Wifi. This will prevent the phone from constantly searching for a better cell signal. Doing this helped me reduce idle drain.
Last night with a few videos + today, I got a total of 3h40 at 120hz durable mode (Charge limit to 90% and the phone is still at 15% battery left).

I got it via OTA.
Also you probably need to set up other (was tired yesterday evening):
dynamic mode
5g off
90 Hz Display (I don't really see the difference between 90/120)
Wifi, BT, location always on
I get around 7 h of SOT fully charged and 5 hours brings me from bed to bed.
Yeah 5g off makes a lot of difference to me. I also use Naptime.
I see a big change with location off. Just put it on qith quick toggle when needed. The standby is much much better with just this change for me. I have 5G because my plan doesn't allow it either way.
As others said, it's about 5-6 SoT, normal use on its stock Asus Android OS.
After installing LineageOS on now I got 8+ SoT.
Due to the clean LineageOS, 60Hz screen refreah rate, battery saver always on, no google spying services installed, 100% google free,no blotware, no whatsapp no facebook...
Phone now lasts me comfortably a full day of work (sometimes day and half).
I use it for work not as my playstation.
I'm super happy.
Btw, your post is duplicate with other post, That post has other feedbacks that may help you, better to stick to that post.
Hey, I noticed on my new GT2 poor standby time, somewhere I read that it might be caused by VoLTE is this possible?
Try using settings > battery > advanced settings > app quick freeze and select apps that you don't neet to run in background.
I did that but I continue having battery drain, only 3-4h of display time.
Well I have to check this tomorrow but it seems that VoLTE is a problem for me.
might not help you too much
but for me, with VOLTE turned on the SOT is pretty good
like 7+
In my case, with VOLTE off and all apps with quick freeze I have less than 4h of SoT, what I can do?
PD: screen at 120Hz, of course.
i mean its super hard to give any recommendation
it really depends on the apps you are using
if you are gaming with 4h SOT it drains much more than if you are just browsing
take a look at what drains your battery and try to optimize there
I have Wifi on and only use the phone for emails, web, whats and calls. Never playing or heavy tasks.
also if your signal strength is not optimal it burns a lot of battery
if you are having 5g enabled but no 5g contract or 5g in your area, disabling 5g is also saving something because the phone stops to constantly search for 5g
For me - on 4g network, with VoLTE off is better - screen 120 Hz. I also switched off those options to report customer experience.

I have signal off, only wifi and 5g off.
It is much better - for me without volte option ON (I read somewhere in review of different phone that snap 888 dont like volte sometimes maybe it is also firmware related problem ) - 4 h SOT and still 55% battery , mixed network 1/3 wifi + 2/3 4G . With gps off .

yes + auto brightness + AOD on (black theme)
Then I have battery drain problem, how I can fix it?
Please understand that SOT will never be the same between uses. And should never be compared between users, we all do things differently with our phones. And, also, if anyone mentions his SOT please mention the total usage time, like I have 2days usage, 3h SOT, 30%battery remaining, and this are generally good. You can't have 6h SOT and 2days usage, but you can have 6h sot with 10h total usage and 0% battery remaining! And post screenshots that sustain your affirmations.

Man, yesterday I got 1h 10min of SoT with 9h of phone use at 50% of battery, as I said, I only use the phone for emails, web, whats and one call of 4min, always with WiFi. Its evident I have a battery drain problem, indeed, in idle the consumes batery all the time, my old realme X2 had better battery administration 3 years after I buyed it.
I cheeked all the permisions and syncronitzations and is all ok, maybe the only solution is a hard reset...
My data from last day with VoLTE on my phone needed charger about 7pm without VoLTE about 11pm.
After few days I confirm on firmware A14 - VoLTE eats batter like crazy :/ - how to report that to Realme - their forum don't look good at all :/
Try emailing: [email protected] I've sent them emails about some issues, got some replies but didn't solve anything... Try your luck )
