[Q] Flashing global firmware on CN version? - Xiaomi Mi 8 Questions & Answers

Hey guys,
accidentally bought the cn version instead of the global mi8.
i just want to use custom roms on the mi8 anyways. can i flash the global firmware on it or will it brick then?
since i am not familiar with the device, what do you guys think?
i could send it back or keep it. are there any disadvantages for me using the cn version in europe (germany).
thx in advance

You must unlock bootloader first then flash any custom or global rom .

after unlocking bootloader, can i use the firmware from global rom or am i forced to use the cn version? will i risk a brick? hw should be the same or not? so both should be usable i guess.

After unlocking bootloader you can install and run global ROM without any issue but never ever re-lock the bootloader with global ROM installed on your CN Version otherwise it will (hard?)brick the device.

Going back to EEA Rom with locked bootloader ?

Hey everyone
I ordered my Mi 9 on Amazon and received it two days ago. When I used it for the first time, I noticed it was running on MIUI Global 10.2.28.0 (which is the EEA version).
After messing a bit with ROM flashing I ended up flashing a Global ROM over the EEA one with XiaoMi Tool V2, all that with locked bootloader (I can't unlock it yet).
The problem is that right now I can't flash the EEA ROM over the Global one, it says that my version is illegal or that I can only flash new firmwares.
Is there a way to get back to the EEA ROM without unlocking the bootloader?
EDIT : I've found my answer, I can't. I'll wait to unlock my bootloader and install the Xiaomi.eu ROM since I'm living in an EEA country

Redmi K20 Pro - China Rom Convert to MI 9T Pro?

Hi All,
I recently purchased a new Redmi K20 Pro off a friend who by mistake bought what I believe to be a Chinese ROM phone due to opening up apps in Chinese...
I have unlocked the bootloader and am ready to progress to flashing a new rom. However, I have seen in videos and read that you need to flash the correct rom in order not to brick the device. You can create issues by not using the correct vendor rom? I'm wanting to flash a global rom in order to not have a chinese rom with Chinese apps...
What I am hoping to achieve is to flash a global or rom that is in english with google apps ready to go.
I also want to know if I will be able to lock the bootloader once I have flashed the new rom or do I not worry about locking it? I assume if I lock the bootloader, I will be able to use google pay etc?
I have searched and I am unable to find a correct guide that will work for the device I bought...
Can anybody please point me in the right direction with what I need to do in order to get my phone to a global rom where all apps are in English please?
MIUI Version - MIUI 11.0.8 Stable

Kernel Version - 4.14.117-perf-gc8b9

I've been looking and found this guide - May I confirm this will be what I need to convert to a global rom and not brick my device?

Look here for the fastboot ROM
https://xiaomifirmwareupdater.com/supported/miui/
Choose the fastboot ROM for either European or Global raphael
Use this guide to flash it
https://c.mi.com/oc/miuidownload/detail?guide=2
View the page in desktop mode if viewing on a phone.
IMPORTANT
You must not lock the bootloader. You will brick the phone if you lock the bootloader with any ROM other than Chinese.
The default flash option in the Mi Flash Tool is to lock the bootloader when flashing. You must change this.
In step 5 of the guide make sure you change the flash option to 'clean all' in the Mi Flash Tool before hitting the flash button.

You need to have unlocked bootloader. Then download MI flash tool and correct fastboot rom file from MI website.
To unlock bootloader visit: https://en.miui.com/unlock/
REMEMBER: While flashing fastboot rom select clean all. Do not select clean all and lock. This will keep the bootloader unlocked. It is safer to keep bootloader unlocked for first time, because if something goes wrong you can flash again. If fastboot rom is flashed properly then you may lock the bootloader by reflashing.

Thanks Man,
Finaly i flashed my Redmi 8 INDIAN version to International version.
I have unlocked the bootloader, than downloaded the *.tgz fastboot version. And flash the mobile as you tell me.
It's ok now.
One observation,
- i have renamed the directory extracted from *.tgz file to short name because the Miflash tool can't read it.
:good:
redmi 8 flash fastboot rom

Not sure about Indian Rom but I have been using Global Rom and have changed to Indonesian Rom recently to enable call recording. Global Rom uses Google Phone app which does not allow call recording whereas Indonesian Rom uses Xiaomi phone and messaging apps which has call recording option. There is no other difference at all in Global and Indonesian ROMs.

While you flash using Mi flash tool there will be an option at bottom left panel "Clean all and lock", make sure that it is checked before you flash.. That's it. Lean back and enjoy. Or you can Just type one line in CMD " Fastboot oem relock", honestly, I haven't tried it yet, I used Mi flash tool.

Question change Vodafone rom 12.0.5.0 ( RKSEUVF) TO 12.0.5.0 (RKSEUXM )

i have to wait the normal 168 hours to unlock my bootloader so my question is, can i download Rom 12.0.5.0 (RKSEUXM) and load to phone memory and update Rom 12.0.5.0 (RKSEUVF) via recovery before unlocking the bootloader, i guess it may reject the update as it has a different ROM reference , install ok, or just brick.

Will be grateful for your help and tip.
