Slow charge problem - Xiaomi Mi 8 Questions & Answers

I have a problem with my Mi8. After update to Android 9, my phone cant charge by Quickcharge, only slowcharge. Where can be problem? I charge with original cable and charger.
Thanks, and sorry for my english

Same problem with my Xiaomi mi 8 pro after update. It’s taking hours and hours to full charge using original cable and charger. The same charger and cable works perfectly in my Mi 6.

Is it OK now, after some software update?

No I updated it to MIUI11, but still nothing.

Me to same problem my phone can't exceed 400ma with all chargers
But PD chargers work fin
I think Chinese phone you can expect anything

Try to charge after single one:
1. Clean charging port (use plastic tool, can be self made from an ear stick for example)
2. Hold power button in about 13 sec - the phone will clean up temporary data
3. Turn off phone
4. Turn off phone for 10-20 min, then charge up to 100%, unplug, still off for 10-20 min, plug and fill to 100%
5. Charge off the phone. Let them to turn off. Then as same as previous point: charge up to 100%, unplug, still off for 10-20 min, plug and fill to 100%
6. Do completly wipe and install a full official ROM (download again and verify), not only update
If they're original accesories and the phone is on official kernel/fastboot/ROM/unrooted etc., the trouble can be hardware, or damaged software data.

Thanks for reply.
For me factory reset did not helped. But I discovered that with laptop charger (with USB C output) quick charge works! I was checking parameters in application 'ampere' and there is information that this charger is AC, and rest is USB. So it looks like QC works but....
@marik1, your path is quite time consuming and complicated but maybe it's worth to try
@Younes702, what type of PD are you using? What particular model? In ampere app during PD charging it appeared as USB or AC?

Another brick in the Wall... :-( Needing help with Wizard

Shortly: I flashed a new rom (not so new... Mameli 2.0 with WM6.1) and the upgrade process stuck on 99%, computer saying "All Done"
No so... trying to reboot the Wizard gets up the bootloader screen... no problem, will you say BUT... I was in a hurry so I leave the USB cable connected and go away for a few hours (I suppose the USB cable may keep powered the device but now I guess no... )
So, when I came back, the Wizard was turned off.
First try was soft resetting the device with no success: screen remains black.
Then I try to connect the power supply and nothing happened...
Then I pull off the battery and keep it off for a few seconds... I was googling with the device in this state when the bootloader screen pops up for not more then 15 seconds then blank again...
No way to enter bootloader mode or to hard reset the device...
I suppose the battery goes almost flat... and I've not a cradle... is there any way to charge the battery? or a way to build up a cradle-substitute?
May be the issue due to battery flat?
Thanks, Pino
Try plugging in to the original charger, not a USB cable, with the power off.
After about a minute you should see the orange LED turn on.
At least that has worked for me when my battery has been dead.
Nothing... It was already done... I suppose the charging doesn't happen if the OS didn't load... even if I read about some stating that if the charger supplies 1.0A the charge happens...
Now I'm trying to charge the battery with "alternatives" methods...
Thank you for your interest
and so?!?!?
So much lurking... noone writing?
Ideas welcome....
I've done something similar to this too, i.e., where battery gets so low that phone cannot start charging cycle.
Here is what I have done. Take note on the battery of the positive and negative terminals (clearly marked on battery). Use a regular 9V battery and some wire (or 9V connector) and connect the 9V to the phone battery (+ to + and - to -). Allow the phone battery to recharge some from the 9V. I suggest connecting for about 1 minute or so and then disconnecting again for 1 minute or so, and repeat this cycle a dozen times or (or more) using this 50% duty cycle charging. (not sure about charging current, nor heating of battery and don't want to overheat or damage the phone battery).
After giving the phone battery some (re)charging, then try plugging phone in to see if charging cycle comes on. (try first without trying to turn on the phone. If no response then try turning phone on while plugged in to USB). Generally makes no difference whether using USB plugged into computer, original charger or after market, ... phone does not, nor cannot discriminate between different 5V 'USB' sources.
If this doesn't work then the next step is to carefully touch the 9 V to the battery while in the phone and connected to USB (and to play this safe use charger, and not computer USB ... don't want to risk damage to computer). I would only try this if you feel extremely comfortable with electronics and voltages (albeit this is very low voltage) and as a last resort. KEEP IN MIND YOU WILL BE DOING THIS AT YOUR OWN RISK, and I don't want to be blamed for anything that may go wrong with the phone or otherwise by you trying this. This has worked for me on several occassions, but I am an engineer who has experimented with electronic ciruits off and on for 16 + years and so feel comfortable doing stuff like this. (again remember + to + and - to -, battery to battery).
Good Luck
First of all... Thanks for replying...
The problem isn't due to battery too much empty (it's a frequent issue, with mobile phones too...)
I suppose the Wizard needs be correctly initialized to start charging the battery and mine was in bootloader mode.
Sometimes I am able to power up the system for a little while and the bootloader screen appears but the battery doesn't charges so I cannot disconnect the power supply... this is why I suppose I'd get better times if I got a cradle.
Now I'm trying to arrange a flying connection between the battery and my kaiser's desktop charger to give the battery a bit of charge and verify my ipotesys (uh-oh... it's correctly spelled? sorry for my bad english....)
OK, wish me luck
stay tuned...
OK, no more bricked
The issue, as I supposed, was due to a flat battery!!!
I tried unsuccessfully to charge it back using the external charger for my Kaiser, probably the unsuccess was due to difficult to obtain a stable contact between charger pins and battery leads...
After that I remembered I had another battery. It wasn't used for a bit of months (I use the wizard just as backup, when the Kaiser is out of order) but luckily I stored it full charged so the battery was able to make my wizard power up (strange thing, I needed to keep the power button pressed as the device powers down as soon as I release the button!!!)
I tried to update the rom again but it failed at 99% so now I reverted to an old rom but the device is still alive...
Maybe I'll try again the update but not before having fully charged both batteries
See You and thanks to everyone tried to help...

Cannot charge with wall outlet

Recently my X1 cannot be charged with USB cable through wall outlet & even car charger , but able to charge with USB cable through PC.
Anyone do encounter the same problem?
Well that's a strange one - how long was it connected to the wall?
Without getting into the discussion about volts and amps provided, and amps drawn by the phone, any method should charge.
In terms of speed, I would think the wall would charge fastest (see above), and the USB slowest.
Did the phone show on the top bar, the charging icon when attached to the wall? Or after a period of time there was no increment in the % charge showing??
If the battery was down to 0%, you probably wouldn't see an immediate increase in the % charge. The % charge is orientative, especially at both ends of the scale.

I do agree with you. Charging with wall outlet is faster. Therefore, normally I'm charging my X1 with wall outlet, unless in office, will use PC USB.
Top bar never show charging icon, but once I charge it with PC USB, the charging icon show up immediately.
It seems like no power for the USB when connected to the wall outlet. I've tested with battery removed, plugged in USB cable connected to wall outlet, there is no charging illumination light. I cannot power on it.
I tried to recall, it happened after I used a USB charger for my MP3 player. The next day, when I tried to charge with car charger. To my surprise, the USB connection notification showed up (I do remember, while charging with wall outlet or car charger, it will never prompt me for USB connection).
I don't think, it is the ROM issue. Try a few ROM still having the same problem.
From now, I got to live with PC USB :|
X1 Charging problem
I have same problem. I can not charge via both USB-PC and Wall. In order to charge the phone, I have to switch it off and then charge it.
This happened after I used CHEAP car charger from dealexteme.com
Now everytime I want to charge my phone, I have to switch it off.

I'm using the original SE charger!? I would not think the problem with the charger, but my X1 was screwed by the incompatible MP3 USB charger
Yep same with me, not sure why mine started doing that though, I never got used a cheap charger. Maybe its the rom... I am trying a new one now.

it's not caused by the ROM, I'm very sure. I've installed different ROM. The problem still exist.
I am having a similar problem. When the phone completely discharges , i am unable to charge it with any power adapter or even car charger. I have to initially charge the phone using a PC , then after the power is around 15% , then the phone gets charged with a normal adapter.. any suggestions??
same problem. It happends when the battery is completely discharged.
what I do is use a charger w/ low amp rating (.1) and plug it in for at least 10-20min. Give it some time, it will start charging after a while (indicated by the blinking lights). After that, you can turn it on and charge it normally
I had a similar problem twice. Both times I solved it by replacing the charger.
the same happen to me and i have another issue
my xperia doesnt work as usb mass storage!!!
the solution was buying another charger but..the usb mass storage issue still not working as a flash drive!!

I guess something goes wrong with battery controller

USB Not Charging after 2.3 update

Hello there,
Its a but weird but hey this is something very normal for the 2x I think. When I plug in the phone to the pc, this will identify the phone and all that, but it will not charge. I have tried different USB slot and other PCs but nothing happens. On Power the phone will charge as normal. I have also down a calibration of the battery..
Anyone?
I just had the same thing happen to me. I'm glad I read about your wall charger suggestion . Then I read about another person who pulled their battery out and long pressed the power button to clear any risidual charge, I did that and when I turned back on it had gone from 1% to 5%. This was after useing 'battery calibrator' which deletes that file. I also have battery monitor widget and wonder if it conflicts, I think I entered a random number when it asked me the wall chargers ampage. Who knows it charges from computer again. My mother had a problem similar on her nokia, she let the charge get to low and they had to 'shock' the battery into life.
- actually if you have the mode where the screen stays on then the phone might just consume all the power.
-nope, seems wall charger is super fast and computer is slow, maybe usb just doesnt have as many amps
check your usb cable, cheap china cable have problem with charging
I got another cable, GOLD!, and did more testing, its a slow charge on computer and charge goes down when playing counter-strike. Charge goes up on wall socket when playing CS. The charger says it puts out 1A and im sure that more than what my laptop USB puts out, maybe I'll try it with my desktop.. debug mode did nothing to change the effects.

Battery charging issue since 8.1

Having issues charging with the original charger since 8.1. When I was in beta 8.1 the charger stopped after 5 seconds same when phone off and charging it just kept rebooting to charge screen. So rolled back to 8.0 and all fine. Now have 8.1 again and the charger has stopped working again. My Nintendo switch charger charges phone fine on 8.1. So is there anything I can try to see why 8.1 has stopped orignal Nokia charger Woking ?
The Nokia charger charges the Nintendo switch fine
Same
Same with me .. Need answer from the expert
Yeah same, mine charges now and again ? and at only 1.5amps! Weird because my QC Charger ramps up to 3.0amps!
I bought the phone four days ago, TA- 1004- Global Dual SIM. Immediately updated it to 8.1. From yesterday Nokia's original charger charges the phone only at 1.5A...
What app do you use to check the charge rate?

Try to close developer options in settings. Probably USB debugging could be an issue. Turn it off.
Yeah it's werid my phone charges full speed for a bit then slows down to 1.5ah
I believe Ampere is not really accurate together with QC. Used a small USB multimeter once and there you can see that the charging amperage during quick charging is not much higher then about 1.4A.
One of the characteristics of QC is that the voltage during charing is boosted. At 'peak power' the multimeter showed 12V & 1.4A, thus charging at almost 17W instead of the 'normal' 5V & 1.5A (7.5W).
Hi i am new here so forgive me
i have been checking the QC from beggining and it seems at 9V i get 7V and 1.44A and seems its a new type of battery that works this way at 4.3 volts instead of 5v at 1.79 get from other phones with a 4.2 volt battery.
changed charger with 5V 2.1A and it still went up to 1.44 .
i think the default charger is the only one to use.
i get a day and a half with fb and games seems that it doesnt get hot

Agreed, standard charging is at 5V, QC 2 jumps up to at 9V and QC 3 jumps up to 12V but Ampere's voltage reading doesn't seem to reflect these boosted voltages.
My old Samsung S6 (from which I just upgraded to the Nokia 8) says "fast charging" when QC is active vs "cable charging" at 500mA (e.g. when plugged into a very old charger or PC) vs "charging" at other non-QC rates... I had assumed this was an Android feature that the Nokia 8 would have too, but apparently not, which is rather disappointing. Perhaps it's worth a feature request in the official Nokia.com forum for the N8?
---------- Post added at 09:53 PM ---------- Previous post was at 09:49 PM ----------
Correction: Looking at Ampere again, the voltage appears to refer to the battery, not the incoming power, it only shows the mA for that, not the voltage. So I'll log a feature request for Ampere...
UPDATE: My phone is model TA-1012, I'm currently running Android 8.1.0 with build number 00WW_4_84A_SP03 and I've noticed that the phone DOES tell me if it's quick charging, but only on the lock screen when it's showing notifications, and only as per the following sequence:
1) Directly after plugging in to any charger it says "charging"
2) If it's plugged into a QC2.0 or QC3.0 charger (and using a compatible cable) then after a while (not sure how long exactly, seems to be about 2 mins) this changes to "rapid charging"
3) After another while it changes to "charging (XX mins until full)" or "rapid charging (XX mins until full)" depending on the type of charger (and cable)
However, the phone is supposed to support QC 3.0 but the charging time estimate is always the same no matter whether I use a QC 2.0 or 3.0 charger, which suggests that it's actually a QC 2.0 device.
So i talked with Nokia support about the charging issue. They told me how to fix it...
1. Settings -> apps & notifications -> see all apps -> press the 3 dots in the up right corner -> show system -> battery protection -> storage
-> clear cache and data
2. Soft reset the phone.
How to do a soft reset: Press the Power button and Volume Up until you see "Powered by Android" on the screen. You can then release the buttons . Thats it.
its fast charging , it doesnt fast charge from 0 -100 . it works like this on nokia 8 : from 0-40 3amp , from 40-80 1.5amp , from 80-90 1amp , and decreases slowly from that.
but i have another problem , i dont have original cable and charger , my cable is anker powerline+ and my charger is xiaomi qc3 charger . my problem is that from 0-40 when its fast charging it keeps disconnecting and connecting every 10-15 sec.
BTW u can check your charge status when ur phone is locked (rapid charging = fast charging , charging = normal charging"this is from 80-100" , slow charging = somthing is wrong check ur cable or charger)

Fast charging issues

Hey guys! A few weeks ago I noticed that fast charging doesn't work with my usual power sources (Xiaomi Power Bank, Xiaomi QI Car Charger), even though it worked before that. I only get around 850 mAh with them. The only way it works if I use the original wall charger. I use the original and a Baseus cable. It is also slow with the phone turned off. Any ideas what causes this?

The fast charge brick is needed to power the basic functions of the charger. I suggest you get the 27W brick in order to get the 20w fast wireless charging

Xiaomi.eu ROM, I unlocked the bootloader a few weeks before this issue, but the problem also persists when the phone is turned off. Should I try to flash back the stock ROM with MI Flash?
My mi9 lite phone went slow charging too. Phone usually got a full charge after 2hrs but it went to 4hours to get a full charge after i connected my phone to transfer files to my laptop through a usb cable. What i did to get the 2hrs charging was reconnect my phone to the laptop using the same usb cable. At the phone a pop up appears with 3 choices...1st choice(forgot),2nd transfer files, 3rd transfer photos. I tapped the 1st choice and disconnected my phone. And i got my 2hrs full charging time back. Hope this will help.
I am on 12.0.2 and takes 2 hours to charge 90% mean that ~1.5 minute 1% charge
before flashing this ROM via EDL method took around ~1 hour with the original charger to charge from 20% to 90%
