N920I battery question - Galaxy Note5 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I just wanna ask if my battery needs replacement. I charged my phone until full in recovery mode (twrp) then rebooted normally. But i've been using my phone for an hr constantly (txting, social media apps). And it only drains 1% usually it will drain 25% at this rate. I just wanna ask if my battery needs replacement.

Yes, this would be one of the largest indicators that your battery needs to be replaced. Other symptoms of a bad battery can include, but are not limited to, the device dying at any percentage other than zero, device overheating, swelling of back glass or screen, and slow CPU performance. The battery will cost around $10 to purchase, or you can take the device to any cell phone repair shop and they will replace your battery for around $50.

first 25% of battery drops fast?

Ok so this is what i noticed has been happening with my phone...
I wake up in the morning and i unplug my phone from charger at 100% battery life...
after about 1-2 hours of no use (outside of occasional check of time) and no programs running i notice that 25% of life has diminished...
i have turned 3g off and done most of the kaiser tweak settings that help with battery life. for the rest of teh day i can use the phone and battery life runs normally but it seems the first 25 to 30% drops real fast without use
is everyone experiencing this? is it normal?
KP
The problem lies in your first sentence. "I wake up in the morning and unplug my battery." You are charging your battery too much thus killing it's battery life. I only charge my phone in the day while I'm at work. That way I can unhook it when it's fully charge. I would go on ebay and type in OEM battery Kaiser. You can pick one up for 15-30 dollars new.
From what I understand. Leaving your battery in the charger when it is fully charged should not damage the battery as long as its not there for an excessive amount of time but i might be wrong. Either way i have no way of charging the phone during the day as im on the go most of the time so this would mean even if i get a new battery it wont matter because it wile eventually do the same as i have only used this phone for about 3 or 4 months now. any other possibilities or solutions?
or should i just take it as it is and just buy a new battery maybe a bigger seido?
I thought Lithium ion batteries have overcharge protection. I charge mine overnight which I am sure a lot of others do also with no negative effects.

I do... Maybe I shouldn't?
I would hope it has Overcharge Protection!!!
With NiCad Batteries if you overcharged them you would kill the life of the batteries.
And while all batteries do this LiIon are least tolerant. If you overcharge a LiIon battery, that is without Overcharge protection, the LiIon Battery with BURST INTO FLAMES! Thus the problem with the Sony Batteries that caused all those Laptop battery recalls.

Thats total BS with lithium batteries.
To the OP: Try running down your battery completely once, until the phone switches off by itself, then recharge fully. If you never do it and always recharge before the battery is empty the battery's power meter can lose its calibration over time and display weird things.
If it doesn't help, and you can notice a drop in overall life time you might need a new battery.
I have the exact same "problem" with my Tytn II.
Is slows down evenly though. (So the first 5 % of battery vanishes in minutes basically while the last 5 % can last for an hour, when it's half full % will last somehwere in between these two extremes).
Personally I've just interpreted this as poor measuring done by the hardware and/or software. (Ie I don't think the battery performs better the less full it gets as the meter in Windows would have me think)

may seem a daft point but after draining the battery, dont charge with the phone turned back on. gives a fuller charge cos its not being used and makes it quicker to charge, lol

Hmm...I don't see how turning my phone off to charge would increase the charging rate dramatically. My phone in standby mode uses 1% every 2 hours.
depends highly on roms and especially on radios.
with a crappy rom, battery could drop as fast as 10% per hour.
with a decent rom, battery drops in standby mode at a rate about 2% per hour.

If the phone is on but on standby that barely changes a thing. If it's on, with display illuminated then yes it might take you an extra 20 minutes to charge.. no big deal either.
*UPDATE*
ok so i drained my battery last night completely(turned on navizon, tt7, and skyfire) which took me about at most 2 hours.
Put it in for a charge
woke up at 9 and checked to see and it was 100%
I have push mail set to update every hour and i also run pocket sportscenter autoupdates which updates every 10 to 15 minutes
I used the phone for 5 minutes of calls
5 minutes of web surfing
a few text messages
and the occasional time check
at 6:30 pm battery life was at an amazing 90%
i was thrilled.
i continued to surf the web heavily from 730 to 8
a few more text messages
at 9 battery was at 67%
so i gotta believe that draining the battery helped recalibrate it...
i guess every 2 or 3 months i got to drain it out and give a full charge
thanks for the help guys
really appreciate it

Battery Recalibration advice needed! Battery dies too quickly

My xperia only lasts about a day with moderate internet usage, with moderate amount of necessary programs running (I ALWAYS close all apps after finishing).
Just a note, all my data connections are closed & tweaked to close after 2 mins of inactivity.
I heard that X1 batteries should last for ages.. at least 2 days to 4 days.
But I heard I need to flat out the battery, and then full charge it to 100%, followed by a soft reset. Apparently, this recalibrates the battery levels and users have reported battery life extend to 2 days to 3 days more!
So, my question is, if anyone has recalibrated their battery meters is..
1) After flatting my battery out, do I full-charge with the phone OFF or ON?
2) After I have fully charged, can I use PHM Soft Reset after windows boot-up?
Thanks.
I think you should buy another battery if you want more time.
My battery is down to about 50% on average after 8 hour work day. I have push e-mail and IM client and they always cause drain. 2-4 days would be if you didn't have consistent background services running.
As far as what you are saying about recalibrating the battery I think you are misinformed. Xperia has a Lithium-Ion or Lithium Polymer battery. Generally recharging frequently is better for it than doing a full drain. The type of full drain before recharge that you are describing was common recommended practice for Nickel Cadmium or Nickel Metal Hydride batteries. These could develop a "memory" in the battery which would dramatically reduce the amount of charge they would hold before they refused to charge.
If anyone has good evidence to the contrary I would love to be wrong, but I am pretty sure that with PUSH and IM there is no way to get a 1500mAH battery to last 3 days.
Also the radio you use and the area you are in (proximity to towers) can have a significant effect on your battery life.
charge it when it off for - + 1 Hr .
it will saty about 2 days

This is not absolutely true. It's true that Lithium battaries don't develop "memory" problems on their energy storing part, but they have a small circuit and this circuit is possible to develop the "memory" effect. This circuit is the one that decides that battery is full and cuts energy supply or informs about the percentage of the battery power remaining. This circuit for example is the reason that there is no point anymore on having the battery charged for 24 hours when you charge it for the first time.
IMHO you could try emptying the battery and charging it again when the device is off. Don't try to drain the battery completely as it could damage its power storing part.
i think i have the same problem about my X1. when i full charge my battery and after a few hours it goes 50% and sometimes my battery indicator says that i have 80% and after a soft reset the battery indicator says i have 20% weird...

CurrentWidget to ensure fully charged battery

So most people should have heard about currentwidget by now, most people talk about it and use it to see what battery drain occurs during standby mode or airplane mode.
Now I'm sure most know this but incase you didn't, currentwidget helps to ensure your battery is fully charged as well. This is good for people that complain about their battery dropping quickly after a full charge.
You can use currentwidget to monitor your charge, when the battery says its 100% and led is green, currentwidget still shows power going to the battery in form of "ma". I noticed my battery said it was charged and eventho at 100%, currentwidget still showed "ma" is being delivered to the battery . After two hours only it showed 0ma, now I'm sure that means that eventho my phone said its charged, it wasn't fully charged until 0ma were displayed in currentwidget. Since I noticed that, I've been charging my battery "fully" and did notice my battery stayed much longer in the 90-100% aisle when being unplugged.
So if you feel ur battery drops too quickly from a full charge, use this widget to help monitor your charge.
yep, tnx for the tip, im useing clarus battery and its do the same - and i like the widigt so...
the current widget always shows some value of mA . how do we know when the battery is really full ?
Well with me after 1hour at 100%, it shows 0ma. That's when I know the battery is completely full and reached its maximum capacity.
I don't think waiting for the battery to get to the 0mA level is good for the battery performance. Usually the green LED comes on when the widget shows 50mA.
A high-charge concentration for a long time in a Li-Ion battery is bad for the battery. Thats why mobile phones have a little buffer to stop the entire capacity to be full, and try to lose the first part of the full charge as fast as possible.
Since i use some RC Helicopter with li-po/li-ion that both have the same way to produce energy, I have learned how to use this kind of battery and how to ensure a good battery life/durability.
There is no reason to worry about the battery if you follow those few recommendation (given by a battery producer):
-Your battery has to be charged with a current of 1C max (1C mean 1230mA for a 1230mAh capacity).
-Your battery voltage must not be over 4250mV. If you go over, you may damage the battery and risk random explosion/fire. In normal use, it's better to not go over 4200mV.
If you charge the battery with your phone, you will never be able to go over 4200mV because the charge stop automatically before.
-Your battery must not be under 3300mV. Same risk as above. In normal use, it is better to not go under 3450-3500mV to ensure a good battery durability (numbers of cycle charge/decharge). I think the phone show 0% at near of 3450mV, but never check this cause i never wait my phone to be as close to the death.
-Your battery has to be drain at a current of 10C max, i.e for desire HD , 12.30A (1230mAh x 10).
impossible to reach that current with your smartphone so no worries about burning your cpu with heavy bench.
Whatever you do respecting this will not be harmful for your battery.

Estimated battery capacity mAh & battery replacement

Hi,
Using my N6 everyday since mid-2015, I'm considering replacing the battery with some ez30 models available on Amazon/Ebay.
Before doing that, I have a few questions :
- I often read bad reviews about batteries purchased on Internet. Is there a good and reliable place to buy one ?
- How to correctly measure the mAh remaining of my battery ?
- I installed AccuBattery telling me my battery is 91% capacity => 2932mAh out of 3220mAh. Is that reliable data after + 1,5 year of every day use ? I can't believe my battery is still that good today ^^
Thank you in advance
Hello,
Well, I bought my Nexus 6 in March 2015 and it still holding strong.
I also measured the battery with AccuBattery and it says the health is at 89% or 2872 out of 3220 mAh.
I read on some places that normally, batteries lose about 10% per year of its capacity, so I think the data is reliable.
With Android 7.1.1 stock + Franco kernel + encryption disabled and f2fs, I get 4h30 to 5h30 screen on-time, which I believe is on pair with many of the phones out there.

Got above battery installed a week ago, I'll measure this battery and post my findings.
Most batteries can go on a long time as long they don't go bad(mine did).

Any findings to post yet?
Better than the OEM?
Curious if this is a good replacement as it's 3 times the price of an eBay "OEM"...
Hi there I just got my N6 phone back from a repair, they should of replace the battery but I don't think they have, after one full charge from phone being at 5% charged over night using the same app as you guys my battery health is at 48% 1,545mAh estimated capacity ..... design capacity is 3,220mAh before I sent it away it said my battery health was 60% ....do I have to give it a few more charges before I get a more accurate reading or would you say this is a genuine reading.

UPDATE: Had to send my phone back a second time when it came back after the first charge I checked the battery health and it was 102% and the battery lasting all day and a half, so it seems they didn't replace the battery the first time.
i think this reading is so wrong, how can this be. still using original battery , never replaced.
updated screenshot after battery reset using bootloader logs reset then drained the battery to 0 let it shutdown then charge back to 100%.
does that mean i need a new battery ? @ktmom

Dunno about those stats. They're based on a small amount of data. My experience is based more on actual performance.
If resetting the bootloader logs improved the performance of the android reporting, if the device use time is deteriorating, and you deal with unexpected shutdowns, then I'd expect the battery to be the root cause.
I pushed my battery beyond those points and also experience problems turning the device off and on. The screen would go dark as though the device was off, but wouldn't respond to the charger. Long pressing the power button would shutdown the device. At its worst, plugging in the charger with the device off would not bring up the basic battery charging animation nor turn on the LED.
The original designed use for the LED was to indicate charging when the device is off. I would have to plug into a low power (computer) USB port for an hour or so, then unplugging and plugging back in would trigger the LED and the device off charging animation. At that point using the factory charger would work again. The drain time was abysmal at this point [emoji6]

the performance actually is not bad. infact its smooth , but when the battery falls below 50 or 40% the phone will start giving me random shutdown.
but today i did something I would call extensive draining. after the bootloader logs reset, i let it drain to 0 then it shutdown, then i again reset the bootloader logs then it started and show me 10% battery so i let it drain again , then again same process repeated it showed me 8% twice. then after 4 times of doing this draining process i finally got it to 0% where it refused start and show me empty battery icon. then i connected the charger for 1 minute then started the phone and it showed me 1% and charging. and from that point i let it charge full 100%. now iam testing it. if it still shuts down then my battery is dying.
and why replacement batteries have 3025mah ? whereas the one that came inside the phone has 3220mah.

The shutdowns at or near 40-50% I feel are early warning signs. I totally understand why you did it, I would have done the same, but charging from full dead to fully charged is actually harder on the battery. It's ideal to charge only a percentage at a time. That said, I charge when it's convenient, without regard for care for the battery. I often leave the phone on a low current charger such as when I'm traveling. I got about 2.5 years on the original battery and bought a spare last month figuring it'll need to be replaced before I replaced the phone.
My only guess why there is a variance in replacement battery capacity is that the ability to be used as a replacement (size/wiring) is the criteria rather than the capacity.

Battery discharges when phone is off

Hi Friends,
I noticed my Battery discharges when phone is OFF appr. 2-3% per hour! I supposed the battery was short circuited itself.
I opened the phone and disconnected the battery. I left it for a day and IT DID NOT discharge! It was at the same level when I reconnected and checked.
So my phone consumes energy when it's switched totally off. In 2 days it drains from 100% to zero.
Did any of you experience such issue? Any advice, please! Thanks!
i have similar problem on old G901F - when i shut down phone, offficial software!, it drains battery to zero in about a week. when battery is out it does not drain. I think its a hardware fault, power section is damaged?
It's a pre-owned phone, I don't know its history. But today I found the water indicators at the sim tray was triggered.
I suppose the battery drain issue might be a result of the water damage. (?)
Your device should only discharge a very, very small amount at a time when it is off. As that is your device keeping the time on your device's internal clock.
