Sprint Pie update disabled simultaneous voice and data - Samsung Galaxy Note 9 Questions & Answers

Prior to the Pie update on Sprint I had the capability using simultaneous voice and data. The Pie update disabled that. Is it possible to flash the previous baseband? And does anyone have it? I need the capability to work. It would be greatly appreciated.

It wasn't active on Sprint's Note 9 back in Oreo, there was a "loophole" that allowed you to enable "calling plus". Sprint decommissioned calling plus back in September and the Note 9 Pie update closed off the hack so someone needs to either find another no-root method or we'll have to wait for Sprint to enable VOLTE.
The Note 9 is still capable of talk'n'surf. You can see it in action when you flip on wifi calling, make a wifi call, and turn off wifi while still in the call. It hands the call off to the LTE connection and you're able to talk'n'surf.
I'm surprised that VOLTE hasn't been enabled on the Note 9 yet since Sprint has it running on iPhones and Galaxy S phones. I'm sure they'll flip it on but the wait is annoying.

No lie my note 9 could share surf the web and share internet connection while in call as long as it was outgoing. It stopped working after the Pie update. So I downgraded to Oreo but the capability wasn't there which makes me think that the baseband software was changed. So if I can flash to a previous baseband (if possible) that should do the trick. I wasn't able to do call waiting but I'm willing to make that tradeoff. Does anyone know if it's possible to downgrade the baseband software?

Off topic, has anyone had a problem with phone app stop working after updating to pie?

Nevermind, I did a factory reset and now everything is fine

I guess nobody heard me lol. Are there any sprint users who recovered VOLTE by downgrading to Oreo? If so what steps did you take? Any help greatly appreciated.

Just found this, and I have your answer. Using Odin, you can flash back to Oreo for your carrier. I did this to recover my voice and data, using Shortcut Master to enable it. Pie broke that little exploit, so until Sprint either pulls the heads out of their rear and joins the modern era, or someone figures out the same exploit for Pie, I'm sticking to Oreo.

Yeah I finally got it to work. And who says planned obsolescence doesn't exist. Smh

Besides Android PIE being a total piece of garbage, about a year ago, Google/Android had hired a bunch of iOS Developers.
Maybe that's why Android PIE Looks, Feels, and Acts kind of like the iPhone.
Nobody is really talking about this fact. WHY?!

I talked about it once. I mentioned how the latest android is becoming more like iOS in its functionality or lack of. Not only is Google android becoming more like iOS it's also taking more and more information from its users data wise and location wise. I can see myself someday going back to iOS due to the fact Google is starting to take the pi$$.

Yep that's my opinion also. But like I mentioned earlier if Google starts infringing more and more on what I am able to disable or enable on my device then I'd have to start thinking about moving away from the scum that they are becoming.

From the sounds of it you should never buy a U.S. based phone again. The only way you will get these updates before U.S. carriers through official means is with an international variant. Yeah you can probably find hacked up versions that allow the update early but those usually come with their fair share of issues and most people end up still wiping and placing official updates on anyways when they finally come out. If you for some reason ever thought CDMA would get updates early you are far from knowledgeable about how this stuff works. That said, of the U.S. Carriers Sprint has the best record of updating first. Thank you for another useless rant post showing people what little you know of the smart phone ecosystem.
It's only been like this for like........ EVER!

That part was just my personal opinion. My main goal was to simply share the news / story.
There is only a handful of things that I'm really looking forward to, quick settings and the one lock screen widget that we get from 4.2. The quick settings has been solved thanks to the great ROMs that we have here, and just because we haven't received an update yet doesn't make our phones any less functional than they are.

Android 5.1.1 OTA being rolled out on T-Mobile for the S6 edge!

RELEVANT TO US BECAUSE WHEN WE GET THE UPDATE, IT LOCKS THE BOOTLOADER.
IF THEY LOCK IT FOR THE S6 EDGE, THEY'LL LOCK IT FOR THE S6!
DO NOT TAKE THE OTA IF YOU DON'T WANT A LOCKED BOOTLOADER.
Unassuming Galaxy S6 edge users are in for a surprise, as T-Mobile appears to be rolling out a freshly cooked OTA based on Android version 5.1.1 Lollipop for the device. The catch, however, it is so far reported only on the T-Mobile network.
XDA forums user Sunderwear mentioned about the OTA a couple of hours back (at the time of writing this story). Urged by other users of the device, the poster also uploaded a video of his Galaxy S6 edge running the latest firmware. The video can be found at the end of this article.
As noted from the narration, the update also locks the bootloader on the device.
So, how many of you have already received the update? What do you think of it?
Source: http://www.sammobile.com/2015/04/29/android-5-1-1-ota-being-rolled-out-on-t-mobile-for-the-s6-edge/
Looks like someone in the Edge forum was able to downgrade the bootloader and flash TWRP but still, tread carefully.

Isn't it odd that just one guy has gotten the update? T-mobile has sold hundreds of thousands of these units and only one guy got an OTA?

This type of thing might happen with a lot of updates. You need to remember the rooting/moding community is very small compared to the people who just use their phone as is. So if anything I think its weird that someone in this community got the update.

Sprint beats Verizon again by pushing 5.1 updates

Maybe we'll see this in a few weeks...
http://www.androidcentral.com/android-51-rolling-out-samsung-galaxy-s6-and-galaxy-s6-edge-sprint
Sprint has always beaten verizon and at&t in updates, Tmobile is first then sprint.
Verizon has to integrate and test their advanced calling features first. So they always take longer than the others, even in the best case.

It's not that that takes Verizon so long, it's all the bloatware apps they have to update
Sent from my SM-G925V using Xparent Green Tapatalk 2
That's another theory, but that doesn't seem right as the nexus 6 took a while and it has almost no new bloat that hadn't already been ported to 5.x.
Which points the finger back to advanced calling features.
There was a small Verizon update today
http://www.androidpolice.com/2015/0...ctivation-lock-enable-roaming-in-puerto-rico/
Just wondering if this patched the exploit? I ask because if this did then there is no reason to buy the phone for me now.
T-mobile and sprint have quicker updates, I prefer to have reliable service.
I heard rumors of Verizon allowing unlocked phones on their network. Hopefully, we'll be able to use 4G phone with compatible antenas in the future, this way we won't be dependent on Vzw's updates and crappy apps
Sent from my SM-G925V using Tapatalk
What about 5.1 do you care so much about? Who cares if they got it out first? Verizon still has twice the network.
Doesn't 5.1 patch the memory leak? Even with the latest update after a while of using many apps I feel like the phone slows down at times, and a reboot fixes that.

From what I heard, memory leak is fixed and it includes some extras features to the camera such as support for raw files and swipe u up or down l the screen to control exposure I think.
Sent from my SM-G925V using Tapatalk
Not worth losing root, possibly permanently!
Have 5.1.1 on TMO S6. Couldn't care less about raw support. That's what the D810 is for!
And the memory management, calling it that, is just as bad.
IMHO, Lollipop is the Windows Vista of Android.
I have a Nexus 6 and while it's better on that phone, I do miss 4.4.4. The Note 4 with 4.4.4 was butter. Providing it was a non VZW one!
So do we know how far off we are from 5.1?

The answer is that, no, no one ever knows. Unless a tech leaks information that they got a memo...the best notice you usually can expect from that is a few days.
i would love to live in a world where i can have the best network AND just relatively timely updates but that option is yet to exist.

I've stuck with my ATT Note3 on TMO, and TMO Note4. My son has a Sprint S6 Edge on TMO and it has surprisingly quite a bit of development. If I knew anything regarding locked vs. unlocked BL's I'd have a go with this 925V. Just really surprised at the lack of development for this device. Sucks!
Unfortunately, it seems that we've been left in the dark. Surely one of the many devs would have a thread going with some sort of progress update if any were working on it.
@spadz93 That's kinda what I'm thinking. Too bad. I use way too many root functions to even consider keeping my 925V. Really nice hardware either way. I'll probably look for a TMO variant.
Verizon sucks anyway. Worst service I've ever had. I liked T-Mobile way better. I have constant dropped calls, missed texts etc with Verizon.
I would pay good money to have some development for this device... without development, its useless... anyone interested? pm me =]

I wouldn't go so far as to call it useless... It's still a solid phone with decent hardware. Just because you can't root it and install custom ROMs doesn't make it useless. I'm more interested in a phone that works consistently everyday than I am the ability to push the hardware to the point of random reboots and overheating. Once I gave up root for 5.1 I've had next to zero issues with the phone and I like it much more.

Yea, my statement is a little exaggerated but no xposed is huge for me personally. I like to play with my phone and customize it. Without root and xposed, I can't do that like I could with my s4 so it bothers me
What upsets me is the fact that devs give up trying to root a phone if a solution doesn't come within a month or two, if the phone is the only variant that still doesn't have a root and it will take more effort than a few tweaks to do it. I've seen it over and over again with so many phones. If I knew how to even begin to look for a root on the phone and I had the money to buy phones that I could burn in the process, then I'd totally work at it.
what I dont understand is theres ppl with the Note 4 that are able to root 5.1.1 using King Root and no one has tried it on any firmware beyond OE2 for us yet..

I didn't buy phone outright within one hour of taking it home I was boot loader unlocked , sim unlocked and rooted. No need to call t mobile for anything. I only booted the stock operating system once. Which was only because it was required step in the process. They asked me for help in setting up my phone. I sure if you can remove Google play services and seemed to think the phone wouldn't work without Google play services.
I get the desire for RCS,but it's barely used still... I could see it mattering in the future, but as of right now, meh... I got mine unlocked by sweet talking a rep, but MSM tool is great too! As much as I love the Google feed, I simply have a shortcut for it on my home screen so I can quickly go to it if needed... Honestly, the international variant works so much better for me! Sadly, TMO really restricts software updates for so many Android manufacturers, even aside from OnePlus. By the time TMO approve a software update, new patches and updates have already released on the mainstream side.
Wow...figured someone would have mentioned it by now...but anyway. Nova Launcher has a Google Feed plugin where you can just swipe right and you have the Discover feed. No root required.
As for RCS...not that big of a deal for me. I'm using International on my TMO 6T because I got tired of the SLOWWW updates.

Yeah, I know about the alternatives but they are just not the same as having a dedicated stock launcher with the feed built in. It just seems cleaner to me.
Right now though, I do admit I cant use RCS because no one I know has it. So I went to Beta 9 and am using CPL with the plug in.

What does sim unlock mean in terms of updates? I am not sure if my sim is locked or not no proper method of testing but omni or carbon ROMs update just fine without official sim unlock. I only used the stock ROM long enough to boot the thing to fastboot to flash the international ROM. I did this inside the t mobile store while they processed the return of my wife's iPhone ten pro or what ever it was. They didn't seem to mind. Odd they let me do it with out the phone being processed yet. Mine was rooted and boot loader unlocked before I got my receipt. Their system was down for processing returns so I was there about an hour.

What does sim unlock mean in terms of updates? I am not sure if my sim is locked or not no proper method of testing but omni or carbon ROMs update just fine without official sim unlock. I only used the stock ROM long enough to boot the thing to fastboot to flash the international ROM. I find that strange with a locked bootloader. I guess you had a PC with you for all that or did the store let you use theirs. Any how good for you.

Yeah I had a windows tablet wait time was about an hour or two since the computers were down. I did walk next store to jamba juice and got a smoothie.

Yeah, I know about the alternatives but they are just not the same as having a dedicated stock launcher with the feed built in. It just seems cleaner to me.
Right now though, I do admit I cant use RCS because no one I know has it. So I went to Beta 9 and am using CPL with the plug in.

Yeah but I would think that the advantages of having newer/faster updates outweigh having to use another launcher or having RCS. Honestly, the OnePlus Launcher leaves a lot to be desired. I got rid of it almost immediately after I got the phone after I saw its huge lack of customization. Used Nova Launcher for years and love it. I won't use these betas though. I use my phone all day and just don't wanna run into annoying bugs lol. Hopefully we get a big new stable update soon.
RCS isnt something I really *NEED*. I can see when a message was delivered...but I'm sure we'll get RCS eventually.

Yeah, I can understand where you are coming from. However I would prefer the T-Mobile software. Each person has there own prerogative. Mine is T-Mo.

I am waiting on my token so I can get off this slow update T-Mobile schedule. I finally got tired of waiting so I called them up and told them I need sim unlock they did it even without phone payoff.
